So how will they hold up against top teams in the postseason?Ross Fulton, the Xs and Os guru at BuckeyeHuddle.com answers that and several other big questions about the Ohio State defense on this special episode of Ross Fulton Analysis.

Through seven games, Matt Patricia's Ohio State defense has allowed just 41 points, the fewest of any team since 1993 Florida State. He's doing it with a unit that lost eight starters from its national championship squad in 2024, and was expected to take a step back. So how is he doing it?In this episode of Ross Fulton Analysis, Ross looks at how Patricia's use of multiple fronts and different coverages helped them put up a shutout at Wisconsin last weekend.

Ohio State went on the road for the second straight week and the Buckeyes did their job again, bringing home a 34-0 shutout victory over the Wisconsin Badgers. There was a time not too long ago when a win by that score on the road would have been considered an amazing accomplishment, but with the Badgers' fortunes the last couple of years, it left some OSU fans wanting more.A shutout in college football against a power conference team on the road isn't easy, so kudos to Matt Patricia's defense. Ohio State's offense stopped itself a few times, and Wisconsin hung tough for a while against the run, but ultimately the game ended up being a comfortable road victory for the men of the Scarlet & Gray.We discussed the key moments, plays, and players in the game, checked on our final score predictions, and perused the stats page to see if we picked the right players to click on Saturday. We went a combined three out of four, so not too bad.Following our Wisconsin rewind, we looked around the rest of the Big Ten to see how other teams made out in Week 8. Penn State lost a tight one at Iowa in the Nittany Lions' first game in the post-James Franklin era. It was not an aerial battle, with both teams doing damage on the ground. Minnesota, Indiana, Oregon, and Northwestern had comfortable wins. Michigan pulled away from Washington in the second half, UCLA nipped Maryland to keep the Bruins' resurgent run going, and USC lost on the road to a non-conference rival. We also looked ahead to a great slate of games during Ohio State's second bye week of the 2025 season. There is plenty of intrigue in Illinois at Washington and Minnesota at Iowa, while the two teams from the Mitten State play for the Paul Bunyan Trophy. Nebraska looks to bounce back against Northwestern. Rutgers faces a must-win situation to keep bowl eligibility on the table, while Wisconsin seems primed to suffer another beatdown. UCLA is going to have to raise its level to get past Indiana on the road.Without an Ohio State game to preview, that's our show. We spent a little more time on the other games around the Big Ten this week, so you're definitely not getting short-changed. We'll be back next week to preview Penn State and check on the bye week Big Ten fallout. We would love to hear from you, so please reach out with your feedback and questions below in the comments section or send us an email at SilverBulletsPod@gmail.com Any questions directed toward us will be answered on our next show.Be sure to subscribe, rate, review, share, and follow the show over on Twitter at @SilvrBulletsPod.As always, thanks for listening!0:20 - The Buckeyes were better than the Badgers, and Julian Sayin continues to be good at football.22:07 - The Big Ten was full of interesting games, especially that Penn State-Iowa tussle at Kinnick Stadium. We also have a lot of intriguing games that will have us flipping between multiple channels on Saturday.
The Buckeyes' defense just delivered a statement game. Ohio State shut out Wisconsin 34–0 in Camp Randall — allowing only 144 total yards, 49 passing yards, and just 2 third-down conversions all night. In this episode, we break down: Defensive grades for each position group
The Ohio State Buckeyes continue to roll through their 2025 regular season, knocking off Wisconsin, 34-0 to improve to 7-0 on the season. There was a lot to like from the Buckeyes' perspective, starting with a stunning performance from QB Julian Sayin, who finished 36-for-42 for 393 yards and four touchdowns. WR Carnell Tate added a pair of touchdown receptions, and the Buckeye defense put together four totally impressive quarters, continuing its historically dominating run under defensive coordinator Matt Patricia. But there were areas for concern as well, including another rough day for the rushing attack, and an uneven performance by the special teams.Tony Gerdeman of BuckeyeHuddle.com joins host Tom Orr to recap it all on this episode of the Buckeyes TomOrrow Morning podcast.

Entering the Buckeyes' game at Illinois, Matt Patricia's defense was allowing fewer than six points per game, and had given up just two touchdowns total in five games. Then, the Illini used an up-tempo offense to put up a pair of touchdowns in the second half of their 34-16 loss to the Buckeyes. So is that going to be a potential concern for Patricia's defense moving forward? And why did it create issues against the Illini?Ross Fulton, the Xs and Os guru at BuckeyeHuddle.com joins host Tom Orr to answer that and discuss much more from the game, and what it could mean this weekend against Wisconsin.
Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell met with the media to preview the Badgers' game this weekend with top-ranked Ohio State.Fickell, of course, has deep ties to the Buckeyes as a former player, assistant coach, and head coach, and shared his thoughts on Ryan Day's team, Matt Patricia's defense, and much more.In this episode of the Buckeyes TomOrrow Morning podcast, you'll hear Fickell discuss the game, the calls for him to lose his job in the midst of a disastrous season, and more.
A deep dive into Matt Patricia's "NFLized" Ohio State defense, the Cowboys' defensive struggles under Eberflus, and why Mike Vrabel has the Patriots looking like a legit threat.—In this episode:*Penn State's season is considered a “total collapse” after starting the year with national championship expectations. The team's struggles, which began at halftime of the Oregon game, ultimately led to the firing of Head Coach James Franklin.*The reigning champion Ohio State Buckeyes look even better this season, with their defense being “NFLized” by new coordinator Matt Patricia. He has introduced more complex schemes, including half-field zones, mixed coverages, and blitzing off of motion, which have made their already talented unit more formidable.*The reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles are faltering, having lost back-to-back games after starting the season undefeated. The hosts criticize the offense, which is now being called by Nick Sirianni again, as looking like a “high school offense” that lacks creativity.*The Kansas City Chiefs' offense is officially back after putting up 30 points in a blowout win against the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football. The hosts believe the Chiefs' defensive scheme, which favors a 4-3 base defense, was a perfect situational matchup to stop the Lions' run-heavy offense.*Several underdog teams are proving they are legitimate threats. Indiana, once considered just a “basketball school,” looks revitalized under coach Kurt Signetti. In the NFL, the New England Patriots are now considered a “legit AFC threat” under Mike Vrabel and quarterback Drake May.—Timestamps:00:00 - Intro: The Dolphins Just Keep Dolphining 00:42 - College Football is Back 01:04 - Penn State is Dead: The James Franklin Era Ends 01:17 - Can Anyone in the Big Ten Beat Ohio State? 05:11 - X's & O's: How Matt Patricia is “NFLizing” the Buckeyes Defense 07:46 - Please “Google” Curt Cignetti: Why Indiana Football is For Real 11:01 - Red River Recap: Texas Defense Dominates Oklahoma 12:45 - College Quick Hits: Tortilla-gate & Undefeated BYU 14:11 - NFL: Eagles Suffer Shocking Blowout Loss to the Giants 16:31 - The NFC East is Suddenly Wide Open 19:35 - The Denver Broncos Have an Elite Pass Rush 23:22 - Are the Patriots a Legit AFC Threat? 26:22 - The Colts are Quietly One of the NFL's Best Teams 29:23 - The Kyler Murray Problem in Arizona 31:05 - Dissecting the Dallas Cowboys' Defensive Collapse 34:05 - The Seahawks Keep Winning Weird Games 36:30 - Is Baker Mayfield the NFL MVP Right Now? 39:31 - Sunday Night Football: The Chiefs Offense is BACK 44:13 - NFL Quick Hits: The Ravens' Historic Collapse 46:12 - What's Wrong with the Miami Dolphins? 48:54 - Outro—» Join Felix and Cody each Wednesday as we dive deep into the game we love!MatchQuarters is a reader-supported publication. Ross breaks down what went right for the Ohio State defense in their 42-3 win over Minnesota, and what it could mean moving forward.

The Washington Huskies came into last Saturday's game against Ohio State having scored touchdowns on 19 of their last 21 non-kneel-down possessions. They then scored a total of six points in eight possessions against Matt Patricia's Buckeye defense. So what did OSU do to lock down Demond Williams and the Washington offense? In this episode of Ross Fulton Analysis, Ross breaks down what we right for Ohio State schematically, as well as how a disciplined pass rush kept Williams bottled up all day.
