An astronomical trio lines up low in the east at first light tomorrow. Two of its members are easy to pick out: Venus, the brilliant “morning star,” with the true star Aldebaran close to its right. But to see the third member, you need to pull out your binoculars. NGC 1647 is just to the right of Venus, much closer than Aldebaran is. It’s a star cluster – a tightly packed family of hundreds of stars. Most of the cluster’s details are a bit fuzzy, though. Estimates of its age, distance, and the number of stars vary by quite a bit. In part, that’s because the cluster is behind a cloud of dust, which absorbs some of its light. But it’s also because NGC 1647 hasn’t received a lot of attention. Measurements put the cluster’s distance at about 1800 to 2,000 light-years. One study said the cluster has at least 600 member stars, while another puts the number at 1300 or more. And estimates of its age range from about 120 million years to more than 260 million. Based on the structure of NGC 1647, it appears that no matter how old it is, it may not last much longer. The cluster may be losing its grip on the stars outside its dense core. The stars are being pulled away by the gravitational tug of the rest of the galaxy. Soon, many of them could drift away – leaving a much smaller family of stars. Tomorrow: shaking hands. Script by Damond Benningfield

The Cutting Edge Japan Business Show By Dale Carnegie Training Tokyo, Japan

We see Japan as a modern, high tech country very advanced in so many sectors.  Sales is not one of them.  Consultative selling is very passé in the West, yet it has hardly swum ashore here as yet.  There are some cultural traits in Japan that work against sales success, such as not initiating a conversation with strangers.  This makes networking a bit tricky to say the least. We train salespeople here in Japan and the following list is made up of the most common complaints companies have about their salespeople's failings and why they are sending them to us for professional training. Only talk to existing customers because you are scared of finding new buyers Japanese people are risk averse and everyone here prefers the devil they know to the angel they don't know.  Staying in the comfort zone of the known customer is preferred to trying to create a new relationship with a buyer they don't know.  Measurements systems and incentive schemes definitely need to include the number of new clients achieved as well as the overall revenues, if you want to grow the business.  Pitch your product range, without having any idea about what the buyer needs Diving straight into the company brochure or the product catalogue, the nitty gritty details is a big favourite here. The trouble is they want blue, we don't know that because we haven't asked what they want and we keep showing them yellow. Don't seek permission to ask questions Why don't Japanese salespeople ask the buyer questions, to find out what they need, like the rest of the universe?  It is considered rude by the buyer, also known as GOD.  That is a cultural aspect that can be overcome if permission to ask questions is asked for first.  Why don't they do that?  Because they are trained by their seniors who never asked questions and who just went straight into the detail of the spec.  The salespeople need training to learn how to craft the permission request. Let the buyer control the sales conversation In Japan the buyer is not a lowly King but as I mentioned, an almighty GOD, whose penchant is to destroy pesky salespeople's presentations.  Salespeople here don't know how to control the sales conversation, because they don't know how to get permission to ask questions and control the direction of the conversation. 5.     Don't uncover the buyer need at all It is almost impossible to hit a target you cannot ascertain.  If the questions to ask need are not there, it is impossible to work out whether you have what the client needs or not.  Only talk about the spec and maybe the benefits of the spec, but never talk about how to apply the benefit, show evidence where this has worked before and then go for a trial close. When salespeople dive into the detail, they get stuck there.  We don't buy the spec. We buy the things the spec does for us.  We need to draw out what are the benefits the spec delivers but much more than that.  Few Japanese salespeople even get to the benefit explanations stage.  We need to show how the benefit when applied in their business will improve their business and we back that up with evidence of where this has worked before. Don't have any clue how to properly handle objections Japanese salespeople suffer the same objections as everyone else, “your price is too high” etc., but they have no way of dealing with them.  On the job training as an instructional methodology taps out pretty quickly when we get down to the finer points of sales ability.  The simple answer is professional training because this is the difference between the pro and the mug. Always drop the price to gain the sale It is shocking to think how much money is being left on the table by salespeople when they get price objections. Just dropping the price by 20% is common and it doesn't have to be like this.  If you know how to handle these types of pushback, then you can do a deal and either defend your value or reduce the amount of discounting. Don't ever ask for the order So many meetings end with a big fat nothing.  The salesperson left the client “buy or won't buy” bit quite vague and not clarified.  Always ask for the order.  The worst that can happen is you are told “no” or “we will think about it” but always ask.  Don't make the client do all the hard work, ask for the business. Sales is not complex.  It is a serious of basics that need to be performed professionally.  Take a good look at what your Japanese colleagues are doing and see how many of these nine you can uncover.

In this episode, we discuss the natural human tendency to get lost in these measurements and how that can sometimes take us away from fully appreciating the joy within ourselves and our accomplishments. Thank you for joining us for our 2nd Cabral HouseCall of the weekend!   I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks…   Samantha: Hi Dr. Cabral, I was hoping you could help me find out what happened to me this morning. While getting ready for work, I felt a prickly heat sensation on my scalp that spread to my face and arms, which turned bright red—like a sunburn, but not raised. It then moved to my legs, and the prickling became so uncomfortable I had to take off my pants. The redness lasted about 30 min, slowly faded and back to normal in 90 minutes. Afterward, I felt cold and started shivering. I'd had my usual breakfast, nothing out of the ordinary. Just for background: I'm a 47-year-old woman, healthy and active, with regular periods and mild hypothyroidism that I manage with diet and supplements. I'm not on any meds or hormones. Thanks so much in advance!                  John: Hey doc . Hope all is well. Would like to know your recommendations I do take your dns and detox every 3 months thanks                                                                       Bettina: Dear Dr. Cabral. For the most part, the star cluster NGC 2281 has escaped the attention of astronomers. It hasn’t been studied in a lot of depth over the years. So many of its details haven’t really been locked down. So far, astronomers have cataloged more than 200 stars in the cluster. And they’ve ruled out many more stars that happen to line up in the same direction. That makes NGC 2281 a fairly puny cluster. The cluster’s distance is a bit uncertain as well. Measurements have been getting better in recent years, thanks in part to the Gaia space telescope. It’s obtained precise details on several of the stars in the cluster, including their distance. Those observations put NGC 2281 at more than 1700 light-years. And its age is still debated, too. Estimates in recent years have ranged from about 275 million to 630 million years. Various studies have used different techniques to plot the age. That includes the types of stars found in the cluster, the number of dead stars, and even how fast the Sun-like stars in the cluster spin; stars slow down as they age. NGC 2281 is in Auriga the charioteer, in the west-northwest as night falls. The “twins” of Gemini stand to its upper left, with the brilliant star Capella farther to its lower right. Under clear, dark skies, it’s visible to the unaided eye as a hazy patch of light – a star cluster that we’re still getting to know. Script by Damond Benningfield

March is National Nutrition Month and "beef" wants to be a part of that conversation! Shalene McNeill, PhD, RDN, NCBA’s executive director of Nutrition Science, Health & Wellness, along with Tammy Vaassen, executive director of the Wisconsin Beef Council both want you to know the truth of beef protein and what it brings to your diet. Driving beef demand begins with research, and recent results from a study conducted by the University of Arkansas for Medical Services (UAMS) confirm that not all proteins are created equal. The research, funded by the Beef Checkoff through its contractor, the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, was designed to better understand how animal- and plant-based proteins compare in promoting muscle protein synthesis. Muscle protein synthesis is the natural metabolic process in which older, less functional muscle protein fibers are replaced with newer, more functional fibers to support the maintenance or production of muscle mass. Measurements of muscle protein synthesis are an indicator of muscle health and research continues to support the role of healthy muscle tissue in the prevention of numerous diseases. The research reveals that ounce for ounce, beef outperforms a soy-based meat alternative (SBMA) patty in stimulating muscle protein synthesis. While soy and beef are both high-quality proteins, it takes twice the amount of the SBMA with 66% more calories to elicit the same impact on muscle health. You can find out more about the health benefits of beef - regardless of age at beeftips.com or the National Cattlemen's Beef site.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Entrepreneurs need to be ambitious. But what happens when you achieve your ambition? In this episode, Dan Sullivan and Shannon Waller explain the drawbacks of having ambition as a destination and describe the incredible benefits you can expect when you see ambition as a capability. Here's some of what you'll learn in this episode:Why Dan sees ambition as an internal capability.Measurements you should be making every day. What's made Dan's life simpler over time. How Dan gifts Strategic Coach® members extra years to their entrepreneurial lives. What you need to avoid to be continually ambitious, and why. Show Notes: Ambition is a capability, not a destination.Simply by continually improving your ambition each day, you'll experience exponential growth over time.Dan Sullivan feels more ambitious at 80 than he did at 50.To strengthen your ambition, it's important to measure your daily accomplishments and strive for continal growth. You can measure your progress not just in achievements, but in the ability to accomplish more in less time with greater impact.Ambition itself should be measured in terms of increased capability and confidence.Simplifying life by eliminating distractions (like television) can reclaim valuable time for personal development and ambitious pursuits.Surrounding yourself with growth-oriented individuals, often younger, can inspire and fuel your ambition. To be continually ambitious, there are three things you should avoid: celebrity, retirement, and legacy. It's important to focus on being useful and impactful in the present rather than worrying about future legacy.Viewing ambition as a capability can also help you feel more fulfilled personally—and have a greater impact on your community.Every day, ask yourself what you can do so that you're more ambitious tomorrow.Being around people who aren't invested in growth is an obstacle to your ambition. Resources:CliftonStrengths®Who Not How by Dan Sullivan and Dr. Benjamin Hardy

Fr. Mike shows us from our reading of Jeremiah that when we give our hearts and minds over to idols we become foolish. The way of man is not in himself, we need the Lord to guide and correct us. In Ezekiel, we read about the vision of the measuring of the temple and Fr. Mike shows us how the early Church Fathers would read the Old Testament in light of the New Testament. Today's readings are Jeremiah 10-11, Ezekiel 40, and Proverbs 15:5-8. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. Sermon on the Mount E30 – After the four-part section on our relationship to money, Jesus turns to addressing our relationships with each other. He begins with the command to not judge. But judging can mean condemnation—or it can mean evaluation. So when is it acceptable to judge someone? And what does that mean for how we will be judged? In this episode, Tim and Jon unpack a challenging command that calls for a deep understanding of God's generosity to compel us to respond generously to each other. TimestampsChapter 1: God, Money, and Relationships (00:00-10:47)Chapter 2: Measurements in the Marketplace (10:47-15:43)Chapter 3: Judgement (15:43-28:20)Chapter 4: Sorting The Field (28:20-48:28)Referenced ResourcesThe Divine Conspiracy: Rediscovering Our Hidden Life In God by Dallas WillardCheck out Tim's library here. You can experience our entire library of resources in the BibleProject app, available for Android and iOS.Show MusicOriginal Sermon on the Mount music by Richie KohenBibleProject theme song by TENTS“Vermont Canyon” by Teddy Roxpin & Maximillian“Sundown” by Enough CerealsShow CreditsJon Collins is the creative producer for today's show.
