Kurt Kitayama finished a sizzling weekend with a final-round 65 to win the 3M Open on Sunday, beating Sam Stevens by one stroke for his second PGA TOUR victory.Kitayama, who shot a career-best and tournament-record-tying 60 on Saturday to enter the final round within one of the leaders, birdied six of the first eight holes to build a cushion on a 91-degree afternoon at the TPC Twin Cities.“Getting off to a start like that kind of helps settle you down,” Kitayama said. “Final round, second-to-last group, theres definitely some nerves.”Joe Ryan delivered his worst start in nearly two months during a 9-3 loss to the Washington Nationals and Byron Buxton exited Saturday night's game because of left side soreness. It was a tough day for the Twins' two All-Star players, and an ugly performance for a struggling team attempting to stay afloat in the wild-card standings.“We've been playing some pretty good fundamental baseball,” manager Rocco Baldelli said. “Today was not that.”Buxton didn't return to the field after the sixth inning, but Baldelli said Buxton was “relatively upbeat” when they chatted during the game. Buxton, who made a leaping catch at the center field wall in the first inning, will undergo medical imaging Sunday morning. Send us a textThe Minnesota Twins visited Chavez Ravine and the Los Angeles Dodgers and nearly came away with a remarkable series victory, only to see it snatched away by a series of unfortunate decisions late in Game 3. Hoges fills in for David to discuss the series with Dan, who was in attendance at the last two games in L.A. They discuss the ups and downs of Rocco Baldelli's management as well as their shared frustration over just how much the trade deadline has dominated the narratives around this Twins team. Dan shares a story of meeting a MN for the Win hero, and Hoges heaps praise on one of his heroes, Shohei Ohtani. Thanks for listening, and go Twins! Send us a textComing out of the All-Star Break, the Minnesota Twins give Colorado Rockies fans something of a surprise: a series victory for the Coors Field faithful. It's a disappointing series for the Twins, who fall three games under .500 and waste a chance to do better following what was an exciting pair of performances by Byron Buxton and Joe Ryan in Atlanta earlier in the week. David wonders whether Ryan has reached legitimate ace status, while Dan is eager to see the Twins shake up the roster by releasing one player and demoting another. Dan also praises Rocco Baldelli for his off-day management, but David is confused about Rocco's pinch-hitting choices. Send us a textThe Minnesota Twins manage just one victory in three games in Miami, much to the consternation of David and Dan, who are frustrated by the inconsistency of this offense -- and are also resigned to the fact that this team as constructed just isn't a playoff-ready team. That said, David is pleased with Rocco Baldelli's management of David Festa but is still ready to jettison many players on expiring contracts. Dan is wise to Rocco's roster management and is also eager to invite a few Twins players to his Fourth of July party. There's also lots around the league to discuss, including a milestone for a pitcher and a gambling scandal for a Twins rival. Thanks for listening, and go Twins! On this week's episode, we pay tribute to Hall of Famer Dave Parker, who passed away at the age of 74 just weeks before his long-awaited induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame. From there, we discuss the contingency stadium plans should the Rays make the postseason, Fernando Tatis Jr. suing Big League advance for predatory practices, Luis Severino speaking out against his own team's stadium, Ron Washington being ruled out for the year as manager of the Angels, and the Twins picking up Rocco Baldelli's option for the 2026 season.
Send us a textDavid and Dan are somewhat surprised to say that the Minnesota Twins took a game from the first-place Detroit Tigers, who looked every bit the part in this three-game series at Comerica Park. David is happy to see that the Twins took the first game and looked so good in doing so. Dan has a plan that would ensure Byron Buxton gets his rightful start in the All-Star Game. Both of them are underwhelmed by the Twins' catching tandem, and neither is totally confident that Rocco Baldelli knows that bunts are in fact allowed in baseball. Aaron and John talk about the difficulty of making sense of the Twins' season at the halfway point, the front office picking up their 2026 contract option on manager Rocco Baldelli, Royce Lewis getting closer to coming back from his latest hamstring injury, and one possible factor behind the pitching staff's struggles.
Send us a textThe Minnesota Twins lose two and win two against the visiting Seattle Mariners, giving David and Dan some hope that this year's team, now halfway through the season, isn't without hope. They critique the performances by all four starting pitchers and question the choices of manager Rocco Baldelli more than the decisions by Mariners skipper Dan Wilson. Both of them look toward the trade deadline and find little reason at this point to trade key assets. Send us a textOn Fathers' Day, David and Dan discuss the disappointing three-game series for the Minnesota Twins in Houston, where the Astros completed a sweep that so easily could have been a series win for the Twins. They process the injuries to Royce Lewis and Byron Buxton, lamenting the absences as part of the wasted chance here that the Twins had to build back some momentum. They also have words for the people who designed the Astros baseball stadium (going all the way back to its beginnings) while also wondering about Rocco Baldelli's handling of SWR and whether he might have been channeling the coaching style of a Minnesota legend. The heroes for the Twins included a more likely candidate in Ty France, and one that was less so (but perhaps shouldn't be so unlikely) in Kody Clemens. David and Dan discuss those heroics as well as the fine management of Rocco Baldelli, whose chess acumen David would love to test. Send us a textIt was more fun talking about This Week in Baseball goings-on since #MLB team captains are kinda unimportant. A vestige of 19th century baseball, there are only three team captains in the Majors today. # Yankees Aaron Judge #Royals Salvador Perez, & #Rangers Marcus Semien. Why aren't there more? We dive into that thought in this week's episode. Four of the five teams in the #ALWest are .500 or better. Who'da thunk it? Jacob DeGrom is looking like prime DeGrom for Texas. Pitching injuries continue to be the story of the 2025 season. Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow of the #Dodgers are both on the IL. The boys from L.A. keep on winning. How about the Tampa Bay #Rays? They have had a bunch of home games scheduled in the early part of the season because there is not roof over Steinbrenner Field in Tampa - the temporary home of the Rays. If you didn't know, it rains a bunch in the afternoons and evenings in Tampa in the summer. So MLB is trying to avoid rainouts and scheduled the Rays for a lot of road trips after May. ]#RedSox puzzle us. Injuries yes, to Tristan Casas, hurt, but the Sox just find ways to lose instead of ways to win. #Yankees are in 1st place by default. Intro & Outro music this season courtesy of Mercury Maid! Send us a textThe Minnesota Twins' latest visit to Cleveland goes about as well as they seem to: not well. The Twins win the first and then lose the next three in close fashion, dropping farther under .500 -- which is all still part of David's grand vision for their return to a winning record by mid-summer. David's optimism, though, is limited after seeing the bats go cold and the pitchers prove unable to get the ball to first base in key moments. Dan is not so sure Ryan Jeffers has truly turned a corner, but he is quite sure that a healthy Willi Castro would make a difference right now, considering Rocco Baldelli's bench options. David thinks the Twins should just bring Royce Lewis back now, even if he's just cheering from the bench until he's fully ready to return. Send us a textThe Minnesota Twins win a series for the third time in eight opportunities, handling the Chicago White Sox in two of three at Target Field. David and Dan are pleased with the series win and some of the positive signs, most notably the play of rookie Luke Keaschall, whose flowing golden locks definitely make him a better player (or at least more fun to watch steal bases). Dan does his best to defend the idea of keeping Rocco Baldelli on as manager for not just this year but for a long time beyond. David has a path for the Twins to get back to .500 by the All-Star Break in July. And they've both got some empathy for Rocco who has turned so often lately to an empty bench. Introduction: Host Michael Rand starts with the Twins, who fell to 3-7 with another sad loss to the Royals. "You throw the ball, you hit the ball, you catch the ball." The Twins aren't good at any of those things right now. 9:00: Chris Hine joins Rand to break down the final four games of the Wolves season and the very crowded playoff race. 32:00: Florida wins the title and the Gophers land a recruit.
