TONIGHT... You poor Twins fans! You were duped into thinking things would get better with the Pohlad family selling the team. PSYCH! Trevor explains why you need to remember these moments in 40-50 years. Then, we celebrate The Beatles lone visit to Minnesota in 1965. We then close the show with Marc "TNT" Stone and we begin our pre-season NFL preview. Tonight we tackle the NFC. Thanks for listening! Tell a friend!
While waiting breathlessly for actual football games (that count) to start, South Dakota State fans and media felt an early Christmas present drop in their lap on Monday with the news of the Jackrabbits accepting an invitation to play Montana in the new Vegas Kickoff Classic at Allegian Stadium — home of the Raiders — in 2029. In this week's addition of "Nobody's Listening Anyway" over cocktails at the Gateway Lounge, Happy Hour Host John Gaskins and Sioux Falls Live sports reporter Matt Zimmer dive into the relevance and meaning behind this news. Then, more preseason banter about the the Jacks and South Dakota Coyotes. SDSU quarterback Chase Mason offered another reason to brace for a breakout season with remarks he made on Happy Hour last week, but how much stock do we take in them? Plus, what is the "sneaky" significant aspect of the '25 Jacks that nobody is really talking about, and what is the most-anticipated part of USD football beyond senior QB Aidan Bouman?Meanwhile, what do we make of both the intense local and global spotlight shining brightly on South Dakota's 12-year-olds at the Little league World Series, while our high schoolers playing in recent state legion tourneys and grown men competiting in the state amateur events appear to play second fiddle? Why is Zim "not surprised buy devastated" of the Pohlad family it is not selling the Minnesota Twins after all? Enjoy a deep dive of deep-rooted contempt of 40 years of ownership. Finally, SDSU legend Zach Zenner recently remarked that he had only had five alcoholic beverages in his life, that he had never been drunk, and that alcohol doesn't enhance any situation it is consumed. As Zim and John sipped on Budweiser and Tito's on an idle Tuesday afternoon, enjoy the response.
Steve Adams joins Darragh McDonald to discuss news that the Pohlad family will retain majority ownership of the Twins, why fans are unhappy about it, and whether it will lead the team to trade guys like Pablo Lopez and Joe Ryan this offseason. Also, what led the Nationals to designate Nathaniel Lowe for assignment and for the Red Sox to sign him, how Josh Hader's capsule sprain will seemingly sideline him for the rest of this season, Zack Wheeler's unknown timeline to return after suffering a blood clot, and how mid-August has become an important time on the calendar in regards to prospect promotion incentives and service time. Listener question topics include which bullpen guys could potentially be placed on waivers this month to help their teams shed salary, if the Dodgers will target Kyle Tucker this offseason, and the craziest "come from nowhere" teams to make the playoffs and whether there are any possibilities of that happening this year.
Welcome to Episode 101 of Tablesetters! Today, we're joined by Declan Goff, the executive producer for Purple Daily and #MNTwins at SKOR North. If you follow Minnesota sport,s you already know his voice and his work. Declan has been covering the Vikings and Twins for years, helping drive some of the most engaging sports talk in the Twin Cities. In this episode, we break down one of the most surprising stories of the summer. On August 13, the Pohlad family announced they would not be selling the Twins after all. Many outside Minnesota assumed a sale was inevitable, but instead, the Pohlads are staying in control while bringing in two minority investors. Declan shares his perspective on whether this move signals real change in payroll, player development, and the team's philosophy, or if it looks more like a financial maneuver that lets ownership keep things steady. That story also ties directly into the team's long-term security in Minnesota. Target Field's lease currently runs through 2039, with an option to extend to 2059 if lawmakers approve a continuation of the stadium sales tax. When the legislature declined to extend the tax this summer, it left the issue unresolved. With attendance slipping, the question of stability is pressing. We ask Declan whether relocation could ever become a legitimate concern for the Twins, or if that fear is being overstated. From there, we dig into the reset at the trade deadline, where Minnesota moved ten Major League players, including Carlos Correa and Jhoan Duran. Derek Falvey called it a reload rather than a teardown, but was this one of the most dramatic resets in recent franchise history? Declan offers his insight into how fans should view this moment. We also talk about clubhouse culture, leadership, and the future core. From Pablo López's call for consistency, to the arrivals of Mick Abel and Eduardo Tait, to the emergence of Luke Keaschall, we examine who can carry the next era of Twins baseball and whether this roster can build an identity that lasts. Financial realities loom large as well. Payroll projections suggest Minnesota could be working near the 100 million dollar mark by 2026, potentially the lowest in baseball. With division rivals trending upward, is contending in the Central still realistic, or does it point to more years of retooling? Other key questions include: which of the deadline acquisitions could impact the roster as soon as 2026, how secure Rocco Baldelli is in his role, whether fans should embrace the draft lottery, and what Byron Buxton's public support for ownership reveals about the disconnect between the clubhouse and the fan base. We close by asking Declan how his own history as a Twins fan shapes the way he sees this reset. After years of division titles, heartbreak, and now another rebuild, does hope remain for another renaissance, or has the weight of ownership decisions changed what it feels like to root for this team? Declan brings a unique blend of passion and sharp perspective that makes Minnesota sports relatable and real. On Purple Daily and #MNTwins at SKOR North, his timing, insight, and authenticity connect with fans in a way that feels true to the market. Follow him on Twitter/X @DexsTweets for smart, real-time reactions that cut to the heart of the story.
Bobby and Alex discuss Bobby's experience on the field at Citizens Bank Park, before digging into the state of the Little League World Series, its coverage, and what its evolution tells us about baseball development in the 21st century. Then, they discuss Rob Manfred's surprisingly candid discussion of MLB expansion and division realignment. Finally, they discuss the Pohlad family's "will they, won't they" sell the Twins saga and the despair it's spawning in Twins fans.Links:Sign up for the TP KC tailgate!Join the Tipping Pitches Patreon (Use code PIAZZA for 50% off)Tipping Pitches merchandise Call the Tipping Pitches voicemail: 785-422-5881Tipping Pitches features original music from Steve Sladkowski of PUP.
Minnesota fans are stuck with the Pohlads for the foreseeable future, finally stripping any last semblance of hope for the Twins' immediate future. John and Ben break down the impact of the decision both short and long term, and whether Pablo Lopez, Joe Ryan, and Ryan Jeffers will be on the team in 2026 as a result. Plus they look at some positives for these last 6 weeks (Zebby Matthews and Luke Keaschall) and how the Twins can still set themselves up for success in 2026. Finally, they rank the morality and ethics of each member of the Pohlad family (just kidding, John wouldn't take the bait). Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Let's go camping and light a fire for the 2025 football season. With all the roster turnover and fresh faces in both the Jackrabbit and Coyote football programs, fans are salavating for a sneak peak into what's to come once the pigskin flies in just three weeks. How are both seasoned veteran Aidan Bouman and shiny new toy Chase Mason acclimating with some of the new teammates that are blocking for them, taking their handoffs, and catching their passes?Who are some of those studs in the trenches, in the backfield, and split wide who are waiting to burst out of their stables and run wild? Sure, whatever we read or hear should be taken with a dump truck of salt, but Sioux Falls Live's Matt Zimmer takes us to both Brookings and Vermillion for a boatload of insight. From his eyes and mouth to your ears, Zim's observations from the Gateway Lounge over a couple of Budweisers will glady serve as the precious kernels you can pop the next time you saddle up at the bar stool with your fellow SDSU or USD fans.Plus, what do we make of reports from Minnesota Vikings camp that new starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy is struggling mightily to hit his targets? And, how does lifelong die-hard Minnesota Twins fan Zim view the trade deadline moves that sent his favorite team into a tailspin likely to relegate it into irrelevance for years to come?

Star Tribune columnist Patrick Reusse joined host Michael Rand for a look back on the weekend in sports. The Twins won Sunday after losing three straight to Detroit as we approach the dog days of a lost season. Will there be any shakeups after the year now that we know the Pohlad family is keeping the team? The Vikings' backup QB situation is a mess, which is good for former Gophers QB Max Brosmer. He has a real chance to make the team. Plus the Lynx keep on winning without Napheesa Collier.

On this week's episode, we discuss various What If baseball scenarios throughout our lifetime, including Billy Beane running the Red Sox, various A-Rod trade scenarios, baseball in Florida if Jose Fernandez had not passed away, the Yankees success if Hank Steinbrenner took over, if Michael Jordan would have stayed in baseball had the 1994 strike been avoided, and Mike Trout's career if Albert Pujols had never signed with the Angels. We also discuss the Pohlad family taking the Twins off the market, potential divisional realignment with expansion, and the latest TV news around baseball.

It has been one of the busiest weeks of Phil Miller's baseball writing career. Steve addresses the elephant in the room... the Pohlads choosing to retain control of the team. Phil talks a bit about what he saw from Joe Pohlad and his giddiness level when breaking the news to the public. He notes he hasn't seen much fury from fans at the ballpark but the opposite is true on social media platforms.

Send us a textThe Minnesota Twins went to Yankee Stadium and did something entirely expected in losing a series, two games to one. What was not so expected (but maybe should have been) was the news that the Pohlad family is no longer intending to sell the team. David and Dan react to that news as they also look at what the trade deadline deals have done to the Twins decidedly younger roster. David weighs whether he should give up his season tickets. Dan suggests that this behavior by the Pohlads is nothing to be surprised at, though the loss of hope is palpable. With the Pohlad family making the announcement that they will continue to own the Minnesota Twins, we ask questions about the marketing this could have on the franchise and its fans. They also discuss the win yesterday for Minnesota, and the silver lining for the Twins going forward, as well as a tough loss for the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks against Sioux City last night.
