Michael McFaul analyzes how China's "Century of Humiliation" profoundly shapes Xi Jinping's drive for national strength and order. He observes that Xi is significantly more autocratic than his predecessors, utilizing modern surveillance technology to repress pluralism. McFaul explains how Xi is moving away from the market ideas that fueled China's growth, potentially stifling the economy through increased state control. Despite this repression, McFaulbelieves a demand for freedom persists in places like Hong Kong and Tibet. He argues that the West must recognize the systemic competition between democratic innovation and autocratic control. (4/8)1900 BRUSSELS
It's been a while since we've done a top 5. Timmy and Keenan discuss sequels that were so bad it made them dislike the original. Sadaqah (S2) The pious predecessors would work overtime just to give more to charity. The Messenger ﷺ said to Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه that whenever someone gives gifts to maintain family ties, then Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى increases blessings in abundance for him. The Messenger ﷺ: “Assist your rizq by giving sadaqah”. The Messenger ﷺ: “Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وتَعَالَى did not mould a saint except with generosity and good manners”. These 2 traits we should strive to attain.

We discuss the British spy show based on the novels of Mick Herron, which are in turn firmly in a tradition of anti-007 books by John le Carré. Featuring Mark, Lawrence, Sarahlyn and Al. The point is not to glamorize the spy service, but to use realism and black humor to stress the human cost and general boredom of this work along with the dysfunctional nature of the institutions involved. Potter Revisited Episode #90 Constant Judgement from your Predecessors AKA Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Chapter 30 "The Pensieve" We are back in Dumbledore's office Fudge quickly backpedals when Harry calls him out There is a lot of recapping done about Dumbledore's office but a lot of these things do come back in the series later on Harry is so nosey, we love him for it Interesting seeing the Real Moody in the memories - we get a good idea of his character and Moody's stance on justice We finally get the confirmation that Snape was a Death Eater What testimony did Dumbledore do to clear Snape? It seems incredible that the government just took Dumbledore's word on Snape Ludo getting off due to him being a celebrated athlete is too close to real life We see the court proceeding where Crouch tries his own son - did Barty Jr play up his innocence to make his father look bad? Would Crouch's career been more affected if Barty JR had acting more like Bellatrix in the trial? Did Dumbledore leave the pensieve out on purpose for Harry to find? It still feels odd that Harry did not see the dream through Voldemort's perspective We get more context to Neville's past and Harry has really great empathy Neville's parents being alive but not cognitive feels worse than Harry's parents being dead Dumbledore will not tell Harry anything about Snape's loyalty. Should Dumbledore have given more context? Harry's mistrust of Snape hurts Harry a lot down the line Dumbledore asking Harry not to tell people about Neville's parents and letting Neville decide when to tell people seems like the only time Dumbledore has protected a student that is not Harry How does the Pensieve work and what are the main purposes? We discuss how it could be used in court trials and other uses Snape Sucks count for Chapter 30:0 Email any thoughts, questions or feedback potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited

The Sonic Trilogy--or, "Hollywood's Sonic" as coined by some--has always presented a rather, er, different spin on the classic character. More than cool and shrewd, this blue dude is young and playful and, really, just very lonely. But now, as of this third cinematic outing, the hedgehog's found himself a human family and a gang of furry kin--a team, so to speak, to take on the latest global threat. Yes, Dr. Robotnik is back, but this time it's Shadow who's the real powerhouse in a film that somehow manages to be both hilariously ridiculous and poignantly heartfelt. But does that mean it's good? Could Sonic 3 be the best film of the entire trilogy, the rare sequel to best its predecessors? Mr. Pacario offers his shocked, if belated, analysis.Come visit lostnostalgia.com for more news and fun concerning everything old and retro, weird and obscure! Thanks to Decktonic for the cover music!

He spent over four years as a historian at the NASA Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, where he researched and interviewed dozens of pioneering engineers, managers, and astronauts from the early years of human spaceflight.Mr. Rusnak joined the Air Force History and Museums program in 2002 as the Senior Historian for the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright-Patterson AFB. All eyes are on Vice President Kamala Harris, who faces a pivotal moment in her political career at next week’s Democratic National Convention. With a roster of high-profile Democratic speakers set to take the stage, Harris must find a way to shine and demonstrate her readiness for the presidency. The convention presents both an opportunity and a challenge for the Vice President, as she needs to assert her leadership while not being overshadowed by her party's luminaries. As her team crafts her message, the nation waits to see if Harris can rise to the occasion and establish herself as a formidable candidate in her own right.

To begin, it's a quick question on the Expats on Amazon Prime (1:27), before shifting into Masters of the Air on Apple TV+ to land on how it holds up thus far against its predecessors from HBO (4:02). The hosts ask Donovan why he watches Bluey (20:38) before Donovan and Blaine break down "Part Three" of True Detective: Night Country to uncover just how good it is at its halfway point and to question if it leans to heavily into one particular aspect the first season may have avoided (24:07). At 5:00 p.m. CST on Tuesdays, you can watch the the weekly YouTube video segment, which has the group discussing how bad this season is of The Challenge: Battle for a New Champion as well as the dominating performance of the elimination winner. Takeaways The TV show Masters of the Air has received mixed reviews, with some praising its portrayal of World War II and others finding it lacking compared to previous war-themed series. The animated children's show Bluey has garnered a following among both kids and adults, with its relatable characters and heartwarming stories. The hosts express their opinions on various TV shows and highlight the importance of personal preferences when it comes to entertainment. The discussion of True Detective: Night Country "Part 3: provides insights and analysis of the episode, showcasing the hosts' engagement with the series. Situated in the North of Italy, the Etruscan's were once a powerful civilisation, dominating the Italian peninsular. Predecessors to Ancient Rome, the Etruscans excelled in trade, art, and sculpture, surviving for centuries from the early 1st Millenia BC until their fated clash with the Romans. The might of the Etruscans is undisputed - but what does the archaeology tell us about this mysterious civilisation, and why does is counteract ancient sources? In this episode Tristan is joined by Dr Lucy Shipley to give an introduction to the Etruscan civilisation and their meteoric rise on the Italian peninsular.
