So, if you enjoy the topics Matt & John cover, you'll get those topics, plus relevant local guests, every Monday through Thursday on Happy Hour... so we highly recommend you check that out! You get hired to get fired. That has become the new old adage in modern day, big business college and pro sports for coaches and managers. After seven seasons, three playoff appearances, and the first playoff series win in over 20 years, Twins manager Rocco Baldelli became the latest casualty of this concept. Was it warranted? Is he the "fall guy?"Is it best the Twins move on even if Rocco is quite clearly not the primary reason for the sad state of affairs at Target Field? Beyond asinine ownership, what else besides Baldelli can we blame for the sinking ship the Twins became the last couple years?Speaking of sinking ships, has a bruised and battered Minnesota Vikings offensive line given enough reason to already believe this could be a lost season, or can a quarterback — either J.J. McCarty or Carson Wentz — and an all-of-a-sudden leaky defense keep NFC North title and even Super Bowl hopes afloat? In a monster week of football for the city of Sioux Falls and South Dakota's two Div. I teams, Happy Hour host John Gaskins and Sioux Falls Live sports editor Matt Zimmer lead off with these pressing Minnesota matters. Then, it is time to pick apart the South Dakota Coyotes' latest ugly loss in a revealing "measuring stick game" at No. 1 North Dakota State. Just like Monday's episode with Kurtiss Riggs, John and Matt try best to answer this question now that the 2025 season is about one-third in the books:With both the Jackrabbits and Coyotes losing head coaches, assistants & a bunch of their best players from top 5 teams in 2024, how and why have the Jacks remained national championship contenders (so it appears) while the Yotes have fallen off the radar (and out of the Top 25 rankings)?Meanwhile, Augustana will take its No. 8 ranking and 5-0 record across Sioux Falls to Bob Young Field on Saturday against now-unranked University of Sioux Falls (3-2) in the Key to the City Game. While the Vikings have the better record and momentum — the Cougars have lost back-to-back games in convincing fashion to Top 15-rated Duluth and Mankato — why does Zim feel the Coo have the advantage, and not just because USF has home field advantage? Finally, a preview of the most-anticipated game in South Dakota 11AAA high school football so far — No. 1 Lincoln at No. 2 Brandon Valley on Friday, a game you'll be able to watch on the Midwest Sports Plus app or at MidwestSportsPlus.com, where you can also download the app and start your 30-day free trial.

Send us a textThe Minnesota Twins drop 3 of 4 to the Cleveland Guardians in their last home series at Target Field for 2025. Andrew "Hoges" Hoganson fills in for Dan and the boys start out with some NFL talk so David can tease Hoges about the Packers loss. Hoges wants to know if Rocco's job is still safe, while David wonders if he really wants to be here anyway at this point. Both David and Hoges make their final decision regarding their season ticket holder standings, and David is once again livid at the way the Twins treat their season ticket holders. Puckett's Picks is coming down the wire and it's a three-way race with two series to go. Steve Thomson is joined by Bobby Nightengale who covers the Twins for the Star Tribune. They begin with the late season injury sustained by Pablo Lopez last night. They touch on today's double header, how both teams are driving to compete to close out the season despite missing the playoffs and potential player movement in the offseason.
Send us a textOnce again, the Minnesota Twins take the first game of a series and lose the next two, this time against the New York Yankees. Hoges joins Dan to discuss the set from Target Field, and Hoges expresses lots of feelings about his trip to Game 2. He also gripes about the frustrating way the Twins have been handling season ticket holders the last month or so as he grapples with whether he should re-up for next season. Dan wonders why Rocco Baldelli didn't do more to get tossed in Game 3, and he once again doubles down on the view that the Twins, next season, might not be so bad. For Minnesota sports fans focused on football and baseball, this weekend wasn't the greatest. The Vikings lost to the Atlanta Falcons 6 to 22 in their home opener. The Gophers lost to the California Golden Bears in Berkeley. And the Twins lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks at Target Field. Joining Minnesota Now host Nina Moini to put these losses in perspective are our sports contributors, Wally Langfellow and Eric Nelson.
Send us a textWith David on a scheduled off day and Hoges dealing with technical issues, Dan tries his best to speak out of both sides of his mouth as he dissects the Minnesota Twins' three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Target Field. Dan wonders whether Kody Clemens might be the answer at first base in 2026 and looks also at the play from the other Kody/Cody in this series. He's curious about Carson McCusker's usage (or lack thereof) and isn't so sure that this team is going to be -- or shouldn't be -- torn down further heading into next season. Gleeman and The Geek - An Unauthorized Minnesota Twins Podcast
Aaron and John talk about the Twins being swept at home by the White Sox, Target Field attendance cratering, Pablo López returning to the rotation, Byron Buxton and Luke Keaschall shining no matter what, and the results of The Athletic's Twins fan survey.
Host Michael Rand starts with a bleak night during a bleak stretch for the Twins. They had a pitifully small crowd at Target Field. The woeful White Sox drubbed them 12-3. David Festa was shut down for the year. And 90 losses grows more likely every day. 10:00: Are the Vikings headed for a regression? 15:00: Randy Johnson on Gophers football. 29:00: A big-time recruit for Gophers women's basketball.

Send us a textAt home against the homeless Athletics, the Minnesota Twins lose all three contests at Target Field to continue a stretch of bad baseball played by what is now a very young team. David sees some hope in the play of Brooks Lee but is disappointed at other young players' performances. Dan is pleased to see Joe Ryan and Bailey Ober giving the team their all. David muses about a favorite song and wishes that the Pohlads had a love for baseball in their heart. Welcome to Episode 101 of Tablesetters! Today, we're joined by Declan Goff, the executive producer for Purple Daily and #MNTwins at SKOR North. If you follow Minnesota sport,s you already know his voice and his work. Declan has been covering the Vikings and Twins for years, helping drive some of the most engaging sports talk in the Twin Cities. In this episode, we break down one of the most surprising stories of the summer. On August 13, the Pohlad family announced they would not be selling the Twins after all. Many outside Minnesota assumed a sale was inevitable, but instead, the Pohlads are staying in control while bringing in two minority investors. Declan shares his perspective on whether this move signals real change in payroll, player development, and the team's philosophy, or if it looks more like a financial maneuver that lets ownership keep things steady. That story also ties directly into the team's long-term security in Minnesota. Target Field's lease currently runs through 2039, with an option to extend to 2059 if lawmakers approve a continuation of the stadium sales tax. When the legislature declined to extend the tax this summer, it left the issue unresolved. With attendance slipping, the question of stability is pressing. We ask Declan whether relocation could ever become a legitimate concern for the Twins, or if that fear is being overstated. From there, we dig into the reset at the trade deadline, where Minnesota moved ten Major League players, including Carlos Correa and Jhoan Duran. Derek Falvey called it a reload rather than a teardown, but was this one of the most dramatic resets in recent franchise history? Declan offers his insight into how fans should view this moment. We also talk about clubhouse culture, leadership, and the future core. From Pablo López's call for consistency, to the arrivals of Mick Abel and Eduardo Tait, to the emergence of Luke Keaschall, we examine who can carry the next era of Twins baseball and whether this roster can build an identity that lasts. Financial realities loom large as well. Payroll projections suggest Minnesota could be working near the 100 million dollar mark by 2026, potentially the lowest in baseball. With division rivals trending upward, is contending in the Central still realistic, or does it point to more years of retooling? Other key questions include: which of the deadline acquisitions could impact the roster as soon as 2026, how secure Rocco Baldelli is in his role, whether fans should embrace the draft lottery, and what Byron Buxton's public support for ownership reveals about the disconnect between the clubhouse and the fan base. We close by asking Declan how his own history as a Twins fan shapes the way he sees this reset. After years of division titles, heartbreak, and now another rebuild, does hope remain for another renaissance, or has the weight of ownership decisions changed what it feels like to root for this team? Declan brings a unique blend of passion and sharp perspective that makes Minnesota sports relatable and real. On Purple Daily and #MNTwins at SKOR North, his timing, insight, and authenticity connect with fans in a way that feels true to the market. Follow him on Twitter/X @DexsTweets for smart, real-time reactions that cut to the heart of the story.

David loves Rocco's new piggie-back pitcher management, and Dan wants to know how this team will rebuild the bullpen this offseason. On Wednesday afternoon, the Metropolitan Council will review a plan by Metro Transit to end the Northstar Commuter Rail service and transition it to a bus line. The train currently runs between Target Field in Minneapolis through the northwest metro and all the way to Sherburne County, a 40-mile route. Ridership during the pandemic plunged and never fully recovered. If the Met Council adopts the proposal, the Northstar Commuter Rail could end in January. For more on what this would mean for public transit, Minnesota Now guest host Chris Farrell talks with Eric Lind, the director of the Accessibility Observatory at the Center for Transportation Studies at the University of Minnesota.
