In this week's episode of The Kevin O'Connor Show, Kevin O'Connor and Dan Titus dive into the latest NBA trends, including a closer look at LeBron James and the struggling Los Angeles Lakers. Is this the worst stretch of LeBron's legendary career? Can the Lakers stay afloat, or are they cooked? Kevin and Dan discuss the team's lack of creation, LeBron's fatigue and the challenges ahead unless a major trade is made.Next, the guys turn their attention to the Western Conference playoff race. The Minnesota Timberwolves just secured a big win, but are they truly a contender? Dan thinks they have the best chance to make the playoffs out of the bottom teams, though they still need more to reach the next level. Meanwhile, Kevin isn't buying into the Sacramento Kings' playoff hopes, citing coaching concerns and the rise of other teams in the conference. In a surprising turn, the Milwaukee Bucks are on a 6-game win streak, but are they legitimate championship contenders? Kevin and Dan break down Giannis Antetokounmpo's MVP-level play, but warn against getting too carried away until they face tougher competition.Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic are rolling with Franz Wagner leading the charge, and the Memphis Grizzlies have won 6 in a row thanks to impressive depth. Could either of these teams be a sneaky playoff contender? Kevin also dives into the struggling New Orleans Pelicans and wonders if it's time for a full rebuild.Later, the guys address the Washington Wizards' ongoing misery and preview James Harden's recent dominance for the Los Angeles Clippers. Ric discusses four hot topics: Anthony Edwards calling out his team after a home loss that dropped the Minnesota Timberwolves below .500; LeBron James and his battle with Father Time; the work by Clippers coach Tyronn Lue that has a team, left for dead after the loss of Paul George and the continued absence of Kawhi Leonard, holding a playoff spot; and a recent lackluster performance by the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns reminiscent of an All-Star Game for all the wrong reasons.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/bucher-and-friends. We open the show with Jenners saying that he really hates the NBA Cup, largely because it feels like a gimmick for an otherwise successful league – while Rob and B-Dog say that it has a benefit to league by guys playing hard in the regular season when otherwise they wouldn’t. And the debate rages about it’s value to casual NBA fans. Plus a look at the NBA standings starts to tell the story about the caliber of basketball that most teams are playing – including the Lakers, who despite getting embarrassed the other night have played relatively well so far this season. Since B-Dog has to leave a little early for a work commitment, we jump ahead and do a hilarious round of Walmart or Waffle House! Then Rob and Rob get into whether or not Anthony Davis should be in the mix for Defensive Player of the Year, after he came out this week and said he was frustrated by never being in consideration for one. We also try to figure out what happened from last season to this season with the Minnesota Timberwolves, because they are on a losing skid and have not played that well this season. Rob thinks that has a lot to do with team chemistry because it’s something that numbers and salaries don’t account for. We round out the show with a conversation about Caitlin Clark’s star power as opposed to the under-30 guys in the NBA today, and where that attention really comes from and what it does to the egos of younger players. Plus Ja Morant’s back and playing great, but still has a long road to climb to get back into good graces of NBA media and fans. And of course we get into all the wild fights from college football rivalry week, and give out another inspiring and motivational Big Shot of the Week. Gil's Arena GETS Real On LeBron James & The Los Angeles Lakers' COLD Streak as Gilbert Arenas & The Gil's Arena Crew react to the Lakers' worrisome loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves last night where LeBron James continued to not look like himself and JJ Redick finds himself with the same record that Darvin Ham had last year through 21 games. They break down who is as fault for this Lakers' losing skid and discuss if there are any moves out there that allow the Lakers to get back into the championship race, highlighting potential trades for Jimmy Butler or Zach Lavine. Next, they take a look at the NBA MVP Race where Nikola Jokic looks to be the favorite to capture his 4th MVP award despite the Denver Nuggets' struggles this season and Jayson Tatum still can't get enough love for being the best player on the NBA leading Boston Celtics. Then, they break down ESPN's top 25 NBA players under 25 where Victor Wembanyama & Anthony Edwards headline the future of NBA Superstars and LaMelo Ball's disrespectful ranking fires up the Gil's Arena Crew. Finally, Gil & The Crew react to the electric showdown between the OKC Thunder and Houston Rockets where Alpren Sengun, Fred VanVleet and the young Rockets proved themselves as a legit threat to the top of the Western Conference. On today's episode we're focusing on medial meniscus root repairs with Dr. Aaron Krych, Chair of Orthopedic Surgery and Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. We have some great articles for you that contribute well to our conversation on the optimal treatment of medial meniscus root tears, including recent advancements in surgical technique to optimize outcomes. We'll start off our discussion today with systematic review article from the February issue of Arthroscopy this year titled “Root Repair Has Superior Radiological and Clinical Outcomes Than Partial Meniscectomy and Nonoperative Treatment in the Management of Meniscus Root Tears.” This review included 56 studies with over 3000 patients. The authors concluded that root repair demonstrated the least amount of postoperative joint space narrowing and the greatest increase in patient reported outcome scores including IKDC, Lysholm, KOOS pain and activity scales. Then, from the February 2022 issue of OJSM we review the publication titled “Prospective Consecutive Clinical Outcomes After Transtibial Root Repair for Posterior Meniscal Root Tears.” This multicenter case-control study concluded that patients who underwent posterior meniscus root repair utilizing a transtibial pullout technique had significant improvement in clinical outcome scores at 2 years with an overall low complication rate. Increased age, increased BMI, cartilage status, and meniscal extrusion did not have a negative impact on short-term functional outcomes, but age greater than or equal to 50 years and extrusion negatively influenced patient activity level. We finish up our conversation today with the publication titled “Biomechanical Performance of TranstibialPull-Out Posterior Horn Medial MeniscusRoot Repair Is Improved With KnotlessAdjustable Suture Anchor–Based Fixation.” This controlled laboratory study, published in the March issue of OJSM this year, compared four different fixed transtibial pullout repair techniques to a knotless adjustable repair technique. If you are watching this on YouTube you will be able to see the different suture configurations that were compared. Otherwise, check our social media for images! This study found that the knotless adjustable repair resulted in higher tissue compression and less tissue displacement compared to traditional fixed repair, which is great for healing. Additionally, the rip-stop Mason-Allen suture configuration provided higher resistance to suture cut-through, withstanding repair failure. We are joined today by Dr. Aaron Krych, Chair of Orthopedic Surgery and Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic. He is also the Chair of the Division of Sports Medicine at Mayo Clinic and team orthopedic surgeon for Minnesota Timberwolves. Dr. Krych received his medical degree and completed his orthopedic surgical residency training at the Mayo Clinic. He then went on to complete a fellowship in sports medicine at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Dr. Krych has published extensively on the topic of meniscal pathology, and specifically meniscus root repair, so we are very excited to have him join our discussion today.

How can Tom Thibodeau turn the Knicks' defense around? And can the Timberwolves survive without 37-year-old Mike Conley? Finally, the rumored race to the bottom for Cooper Flagg isn't quite what it was hyped up to be.
