The director of DINNER IN AMERICA and CAROLINA CAROLINE has a secret, but it's not hidden under a giant papier maché head. He's spent much of his life as an avid home recorder, generating thousands of songs. There's a direct line between that background and the earworm musical climax of his DINNER IN AMERICA. And when he saw 2014's FRANK, a quirky little movie about a band with no interest in stardom giving their all to recording an album, he saw something familiar in a way he'd never seen on film before (and as a former sensitometry major, he knows a thing or two about film!). Then, Jordan has one quick thing about --- yes, it's finally out! -- THE FURIOUS. Help support this show and unlock bonus content! Adam Carter Rehmeier talks about his latest film, "Carolina Caroline" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt33365126/ , his journey as a dedicated crew member and the moves he made to create 3 features: his new release , "Snack Shack", and “Dinner and a Movie”.And Matt and Oren get him to open up about getting past the gatekeepers and nay-sayers who like to say we can't let you do that, because “you haven't done that before”.Adam's a true craftsman, an accomplished cam operator who can still shoot handheld and operate focus, and an established editor. So the tactics he used to make the first move to get past the beige-team, as he calls it, demonstrate what it takes to make it as a director of an independent film.Help Matts' film: https://wefunder.com/badfeelingHelp our Patreon! https://www.patreon.com/JustShootItPodMatt's Endorsement: Blood orange flavor, San Pellegrino SodaOren's Endorsement: Self tape gym on InstagramAdam's Endorsement: Retro boat rentals in southwestern Texas Hosted on Acast. "Carolina Caroline" is a 2025 American romantic crime thriller film directed by Adam Carter Rehmeier and written by William Thomas Dean IV, starring Samara Weaving, Kyle Gallner, Jon Gries, and Kyra Sedgwick. The film follows A young woman who joins a charming con man on the run, leaving a trail of crime and passion as they hustle through the Southeast in search of her estranged mother. It had its world premiere in the Centerpiece program of the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, where it received positive reviews for its chemistry between its two leads, Rehmeier's look at the American deep South, and its fusion of the romance and crime genres, creating a "Bonnie and Clyde" story for a new era. Weaving, Gallner, and Rehmeier were all kind enough to spend some time talking with us about their work and experiences making the film, which you can listen to below.
