On this episode of Majority Rules, the gang starts off with everyone's favorite topic, Mizzou Baseball, which leads to a lengthy discussion between the group about whether Bieser should have gotten fired and how short KJ's leash is given the woeful season. Matthew and Sammy also have thoughts about the new turf announcement, Sam Horn's debut, and predictions on if they will win an SEC game this season. Rory is back and joins the group in real-time to talk all things Mizzou Tennis & Golf. Bianca Turati has done a really nice job with the tennis team this season, and the golf teams continue to shine under coaches Millican (men's) and Westrup Gaeta (women's). Since Karen has been focusing on gym, both Matthew and Dylan handle the softball updates, as they recap the pretty good (?) A&M series, which included yet another W over another no. 1 team. They discuss playing through injuries, postseason expectations (or not), and Madison Walker raking. Abigail then joins via video update with a quick recap of all you've missed in Mizzou Track & Field. There also were a lot of updates for out of season sports, as WBB continues to make news. Players with no eligibility are entering in the portal (insert Succession "You are not serious people" gif here), Harper lost the only incoming freshman recruit, but really, there's a lot of be excited for. The group chats briefly about who she's brought in, and how this is a sneaky good class that just needs a couple more pieces. Matthew shares volleyball and wrestling updates while Karen's wifi goes off the rails, before returning with all awesome news out of Gymnastics. There's so much to talk about from this incredible season, and it's all exciting (and somewhat infuriating regarding ESPN/ABC disappearing the team & some suspect scores) as they have left a mark on Mizzou history. Rory wraps up with a swim transfer update, and the team talks about Larissa Anderson's breaking social media post on the way out. Never a dull moment with this group and Majority Rules. We're back after a brief break with a new episode Majority Rules, and there is much to discuss! What's old is new in most cases here, as diamond sports continue to struggle. Can ANYONE help this baseball team win, or is it a Kerrick Jackson problem? What is his future as the University continues to throw no money into the program? As for softball, they've reached a precipice, and are looking at the real possibility of missing the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2006. What troubles this team, and can they fix it? On to track, where Professor Klapatauskas is assigning grades for each of the Tigers' track & field sections in a frenzied outdoor season thus far. Our resident gymthusiast Karen is back with some exciting updates as the team continues to charge on. Next stop? Dallas Fort Worth for Nationals for the second time in four years! Women's Hoops has a ton of updates, most of it great, and Dylan talks about how Kellie Harper has filled out her assistant coaching pool and is starting to bring in some new additions. Everyone go check out his piece on 15 +1 targets he thinks Mizzou has a shot at-- it's good stuff. Matthew talks volleyball updates from an impressive preseason event he attended and gives his thoughts on the SEC schedule release before sharing some needed wrestling recruiting news. Finally, Rory chimes in via video with some great men's and women's golf updates -- is Mizzou a Golf School now? -- and some recent tennis news. Thanks for tuning in! In this episode of Majority Rules, Karen is joined by the roommates, Matthew & Dylan, to chat about wrestling woes -- with the exception of our CHAMP Keegan and a couple of other decent performances, it was the worst conference wrestling performance in 20 years so... yikes. The hits keep coming as the chat moves onto diamond sports duds, as Karen & Dylan discuss what's going on with softball and how a weekend at home could help heal them, as well as how baseball continues to struggle with injuries, pitching, and well.... everything. Apologies on the limited baseball update; Matthew had to run. Abigail swoops in via video for a rapid-fire NCAA preview that is delightful as always, and then the talk shifts to the awesomeness that is Mizzou Gymnastics and the season they're having. They're coming together at the right time and the sky is the limit for Welker's crew. Rory then joins via video message with some uplifting updates on women's golf, who ended the fall season on a high note and are continuing to do well, and some notes on men's golf before moving onto Mizzou's RANKED tennis team, swimming updates with NCAAs on the horizon, and diving updates from the Zone D qualifying meet in Iowa. Lastly, Karen & Dylan regroup to talk about the WBB coaching search, of which there appear to be some clear targets, and it looks like Laird held up his end of the bargain in actually being willing to shell out some money to perhaps poach a sitting Power 4 coach. The vibes are promising around Mizzou WBB right now, which feels....weird. Thanks for tuning in! M-I-Z! The whole gang is back together for a new episode of Majority Rules! First up is Mizzou WBB's surprising win at Texas A&M and Dylan & Quentin let us know what that may mean for the rest of the schedule. Since the MS State win, this team is looking much better and seems to be having FUN. Next up is Softball, as the #15 Tigers opened their season with a 4-1 record in Florida, including a massive revenge win over #8 Duke 10-3. Karen, Dylan & Quentin discuss what they're seeing of LA's squad thus far, what the Duke wins means to the team, and how improvement is expected for this young core as the season progresses. Karen's being a slight downer, probably from the UCF loss that just wrapped up in infuriating fashion. Baseball kicks off their season in Puerto Rico this weekend and it's hard to know what to expect, but they'll look good, asthe group gets into a spirited discussion about the new unis. Team Script Tigers! Track & Field is next on the agenda, and Abigail recaps the awesomeness of the jumps team, as well as how much fun this team has been to watch in person the last few weeks. Rory then provides some updates for W Tennis, who continues to win in the non-con, and M Golf, who kicked off their spring season with not the best start. Matthew then provides some injury updates and expectations for Tiger Style, before Karen provides some takeaways from Tiger Gym's recent Braggin Rights victory in Champaign. The Tigers are looking good, and the improvement, vault aside, is evident! Rory then closes out the in-season updates with what's to come for Swim & Dive, who are prepping for SECs and she got a chance to talk to Coach Grevers about it. Finally, to close out the show, Matthew's got some volleyball roster updates, and another former Tiger goes pro! Thanks for tuning in and we'll see you next time! It was an excellent week for Mizzou's Olympic sports teams, and Karen, Matthew, Dylan, Quentin and Rory (plus Abigail, via video update) are here to talk about it, starting with women's hoops' surprising buzzer beating win over a good Mississippi State team. The group re-listens to Quentin's call for KCOU, looks at some stunning photos from Rock M photographer Cal, and then get into it. What does this mean for this team? What did they like about this performance, other than the (obvious) win? The schedule just gets tougher from here, starting with Thursday's matchup against #5 Texas. Matthew is next on the agenda with highlights from Tiger Style's win over West Virginia, which came down to the final match! He also provides updates on the Tigers' big weekend in Oklahoma where they will take on both a ranked OU on Friday in Norman and #3 Oklahoma State on Saturday in Stillwater. The next segment revolves around the VERY large gift news to fix the outdoor track and soccer field. The group discusses the ramifications of renovations like these, before getting into a long and passionate discussion revolving around the Question of the Day, which is-- If you were a millionaire/billionaire philanthropist, what would you spend your money on regarding Mizzou's Olympic sports? The team offers so many varied ideas, and it's a really good convo. Abigail then provides an video update from the Bob Teel Invitational and previews the return of the jumpers in this weekend's Dr. Rick McGuire Invitational, also at Hearnes Fieldhouse. Rory is next with a diving preview for the Air Force Invitational in Colorado Springs, before also providing a schedule update for Tennis, who faces SLU this weekend. Finally, Karen wraps up the in-season sports discussion with Gym's massive win over #6 Kentucky on Sunday. The vibes were amazing at Hearnes, and the team put together its first four good rotation performance of the season before heading out to Baton Rouge to take on #3 LSU. Before wrapping up the gym talk, the group gets into a heated discussion about the absurdity of LSU gymfluencer Olivia Dunne's recent comments about judging and entertainment in NCAA gymnastics. Finally, Quentin & Dylan provide some softball updates from Larissa Anderson's first presser of the year, and Matthew has new VB commitment news! Join us! The entire Majority Rules & Olympic Sports staff has been reunited, and there's so much news to discuss. Quentin & Dylan start with a women's hoops discussion on the Tigers' last two games and what hope, if any, remains on this VERY tough upcoming schedule. Dylan shares some info about his recent piece, and the group gets into a lively discussion about a certain W player who was floated as a coaching replacement (warning- explicit language). Abigail is next with some enthusiastic track & field updates from the Tigers' performance at the Show Me Showdown and shares what she learned from her Splits Seconds interview with sprints coach Jordon Andreassen. So much going on in T&F right now, and we're excited to be able to check it out at Hearnes Fieldhouse this month! Rory shares swim & dive updates from Senior Weekend at Mizzou Aquatic Center, including some interesting/weird Friday events and then overall takes on Saturday's more normal meet against McKendree & Missouri State. Swimming is on hold til SECs at the end of February, but Diving, which is showing much improvement, will head to Colorado at the end of the month for another meet. Rory also shares some tennis updates, as the Tigers had a successful weekend on their home court against NIU and South Dakota. Karen is next with a SWOT analysis of Mizzou Gym at this point in the season, and explains the necessity for a 197 score and a more consistent overall performance than we've seen from the Tigers thus far. Also, they must discuss the athletic prowess of Helen Hu, who earned her first 10 on beam and leads the country in high scores (as does Jocelyn Moore on vault). Wrestling is up next, and things are looking up as the team has turned a corner with two wins this past week over Utah Valley and Arizona State. Matthew's got all the updates. Finally, the group winds down with some out of season sports news from Karen, who shares some softball schedule changes and discusses preseason player & team rankings, and Matthew updates the group on some now-former volleyball Tigers signing pro contracts and the promotion of Jhenna Gabriel to assistant coach. Make sure you stick with this one til the end, as Quentin, our resident "gymnast", is given a task for next episode, and a pre-emptive callout for a Go Fund Me to pay his impending medical debt. A small group of the gang is back together to discuss all things Mizzou Olympic sports. The episode starts with the trio discussing what they've missed most about CoMo in their time away, while also voting on a new Illinois state flag at Matthew's request. Then they jump into the show with some extensive talk about Tiger Style's continual issues and historically bad start, before Karen shares updates on behalf of Dylan about the state of women's basketball, which leads to a lively discussion about why fans should still support this team and the opportunities they have to grow as the season is still young. Karen then shares some updates (some good and some not so good) from gym's performance at the Denver quad, peppered in with extensive comments from Shannon Welker's Tuesday press conference. Short rest is hopefully good for this team as Friday the Tigers take on 6-time national champs Oklahoma in Norman. Abigail is next with some exciting track updates from the indoor season, which has kicked off with a bunch of home meets at Hearnes Fieldhouse. Personal bests were in abundance, and it will be awesome to see their continued improvements and see the team in action! Finally, the group wraps up with some diamond sports updates as softball receives a no. 15 preseason ranking from Softball America and CC Harrison is ranked in the pitcher power rankings. Matthew follows up with baseball's extremely tough schedule-- yikes! Thanks for listening, and we'll see you next time! In this new year's episode of Majority Rules, the group starts out by sharing some specific wishes for Mizzou Olympic sports in 2025 before getting into the news. Dylan and Quentin are up first to discuss WBB and their unsurprising 0-2 start to SEC play. Will it get better? There is a slight reprieve in the schedule this week, so we'll see! There have been some bright spots, and the duo makes a wager at Rory's request of how many SEC games the Tigers can win. Rory's next, and with some added insight from former swimmer Karen, she talks about the swim & dive team, who are coming off loss to top 10 Louisville. Like WBB, smoother sailing should be ahead in their next matchup, and while the team dubs aren't coming, improvements are there. Next up is Karen, who takes us through the "Beauty" portion of the Beauty & the Beast meet, where, despite lower scores (don't freak out), the team sits very well positioned nationally and did amazingly well on bars. She also looks at some potential injury concerns before looking at what's next as the team heads out to Denver for its first away meet of the season. Matthew closes out the in-season sports talk with the "Beast" side of the meet, where a VERY injury riddled Tiger team took on national runner up Cornell. There were a few brights spots, but far more ugly ones. Karen then shares an update on behalf of Abigail as indoor track & field gets set for the Alexis Jarrett Invitational, which will take place in Hearnes over the weekend. The episode ends with some out of season sports chatter about softball (preseason player rankings!) and updates with volleyball (former Tigers in the pros, transfer destinations). It's the holiday season at Majority Rules and our student writers are finishing up their fall semesters! The gang starts by sharing where they'll be spending the holidays as well as their favorite Mizzou Olympic Sports memory of 2024 (hint: the title gives away people's answers). Matthew, joining the crew from Chicago where he hopes to catch a flight to Pittsburgh for the Sweet 16, chats about all things Mizzou volleyball, from their opening whoopin of both Texas State and 2-seed (and HOST school) SMU to their upcoming rematch with Kentucky and their well-deserved postseason accolades. The future is so, so bright for Dawn Sullivan & Co and we thank Matthew for providing the best coverage in all the land. Abigail then shares some tidbits from the track Tigers' first meet in Boston, which featured just a small group of distance runners. Most importantly, she is SUPER psyched to put on her fanalyst hat and get to watch the Tigers in person this indoor season on their new banked track in January! Next up is Dylan, who chats about Mizzou Women's Hoops' recent romp over SMU in the ACC/SEC Challenge, the upcoming conference slate, and who has impressed him, and how we think the Tigers will fare in SEC play. Quentin joins via video message to provide his own WBB takes before Rory chats on her video message about former Tiger Jack Dahlgren's performance at the recent Toyota US Open. Matthew then jumps back in with some updates on Tigerstyle's performance at the Cougar Clash and they chat about Brian Smith's recruiting approach before looking at the Tigers' next matchup. Karen closes things out with some gymnastics news-- Mark your calendars for December 18 at 11:30am at Hearnes for their final intrasquad meet, and the WCGA preseason rankings are out, and Mizzou is 9th! We wish everyone a happy holiday season, and hope to be back next week with another show to talk about WBB, VB, and GYM!
