Brewers take a series against the Angels but can't get the sweep with Miz on the mound. Trade deadline day and Tarik Skubal is headed to the Dodgers (of course). Makes a 3rd straight Dodgers' World Series and a lockout in 2027 feel almost inevitable. The Miz sits down with TMZ's Inside the Ring for one of his most candid interviews yet, revealing a never-before-told WWE pitch that would have seen him face every Intercontinental Champion before an unforgettable WrestleMania ending involving Ultimate Warrior. It was a bit of an underwhelming week vs the Rockies and Giants, but they were able to still go 3-3 on the backs on 21 year olds Luis Lara and Cooper Pratt. Welcome to "Is This A Great Game, Or What?" hosted by Hall of Famer Tim Kurkjian, with everything else handled by his son, Jeff Kurkjian. The MLB Trade Deadline is looming, so you know we're diving into plenty of speculation and discussion. But first, Tim has a question about a walk-off automatic double that has us scratching our heads, and we'd love to hear your thoughts. We all know what an Immaculate Inning is, but what do you call it when a pitcher throws just three pitches and records three outs? Tim may have come up with the perfect name. In Takeaways, we discuss the Marlins' slump, the Angels' continued struggles, and somehow... The Miz. Plus, Max Muncy has officially cemented his place in Dodgers history. The Quirkjians feature Shane Bieber and Jacob Young with some of the best quirky baseball stats you'll find anywhere. Then, On This Date in Baseball History takes an unexpected turn involving Adrian Beltre and Bud Selig. Alphabest continues as Tim tries to name the greatest pitcher and position player for every letter of the alphabet. This week, the letter "S" might have given him his toughest challenge yet. We wrap things up with Three Cards and Team Tim to close out another fun episode. As always, thank you for listening. Without you, there is no show, and we truly appreciate all of your support. This heat is the WORST! I guess you could say it's going to cool off tomorrow with a high of just 87°, but I'm done with Summer. Let's get those crispy nights & chilly mornings going already. Jean's on vacation this week in Boston with her family, but I've got plenty of stuff to do this week with a big show on Friday at the Oktoberfest grounds…and a major concert announcement tomorrow morning. Speaking of this Friday's Megadeth & Obituary show at the Festgrounds, we talked to the legendary Dave Mustaine on Friday and ran that interview this morning. In the news today, a deadly shooting at a food festival in Seattle, a recall on a fabric dresser sold at Walmart, a deadly attack on a Pride celebration in Berlin, the latest on the shooting in Madison last week, and an update on the bio-hacker dude. The Brew Crew got a stellar start from the Miz yesterday and crushed the Rockies, Todd Gilliland may have won the $1 million in-season NASCAR tournament…but Corey Heim won the race yesterday, Tony Romo got popped for DUI over the weekend, and Lebron is heading to Philly to join the 76ers. Talked about what's on TV & streaming today/tonight…and recapped some of the highlights from this past weekend's Comic-Con in San Diego. Punch the Monkey just celebrated his first birthday and appears to be doing much better…and a dog that went missing over the 4th of July has been found & returned to his owners. A recent survey asked Americans if "flirting" with an A.I. program counts as cheating on your significant other…and about 1/4 of people think it does. Elsewhere in sports, the baseball HOF got some new inductees this weekend, Jacoby Brissett gets a nice contract extension, the 49ers head coach was involved in a pretty serious accident recently, John Tortarella is looking to coach again, and the NFLPA is investigating the Panthers after a player got seriously injured on the very first day of training camp! And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a #FloridaMan who broke into a neighbor's house and made himself a margarita, a #FloridaWoman who stabbed her friend with a pair of scissors, a guy who got stuck inside of a gas station sign for several hours, a couple of guys who parachuted off the space needle in Seattle, and a woman on a Carnival cruise ship that was scratching her feet with a fork.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

7-13 Fan Morning Show 7am Hour: Ben Cherington made a trade over the weekend. Was there a better trade on the table? According to some reports, better relievers were available for what the Pirates gave up—the 34th overall pick. The White Sox also selected Jim Thome's son with the pick. This could potentially be an all-time Pirates trade. There was a potential deal with the Mets for Brooks Raley, a very good left handed reliever. The Pirates took the deal for Brandon Eisert instead. There was a Poni prediction this weekend that the Pirates would sweep the Brewers. He got one right! Was Connor McGregor hurt before his fight against Max Holloway over the weekend? How mad would you be if you bought a ticket to that fight? Also, a lot of people bought tickets to see Paul Skenes vs Joe Misiorowski but did not see the Miz because he was fatigued. Would you entertain trading Oneil Cruz this deadline? Crowley says that trading him is a non-starter and when Cruz, Spencer Horwitz, and Konnor Griffin come back it could be the best lineup in baseball. Crowley is chewing gum as he tries to quit nicotine. We wish him luck as he quits nicotine. How do the guys feel about Paul Skenes? They say they feel a little better now that his last two starts were more like Skenes. Seth Hernandez had some interesting quotes while playing in the futures game. Could we maybe see Hernandez in the bullpen in September? Producer Charlie got a phone call from someone during the rain delay Friday night from Allegheny County Jail. He asked for the name again, but no one responded. What if The Fan was their one phone call to get bailed out? Did Producer Charlie condemn someone for a lifetime in prison? The Pirates pulling Jared Jones could have angered the caller so much they wanted to vent from prison.

Joe is frustrated by traffic. The Pirates are even more frustrating. Joe quotes Simon and Garfunkel. Don Kelly had a nonsensical explanation about using Dennis Santana. Ben Cherington is the biggest to blame. Mitch Keller has proven to be a bad signing. The Penguins and Steelers feel stuck, and the Pirates have disappointed. Now they are stuck too. Joe is losing his mind. Callers dish out the blame for the Pirates' struggles. What are the best Tom Hanks movies? Bill Murphy gets some blame from a caller. Ray Fittipaldo joins to discuss the last time a movie made him cry, what's the big story from Day 1 of Steelers camp, how he thinks the battle for backup QB will play out - he thinks it's Howard's job to lose, how much difference Mike McCarthy's offense will be, if Rodgers will finally trust throwing to a rookie, if Eli Heidenreich supplant Kaleb Johnson. Free association. It's time for Joe's mailbag - are soccer players better athletes than NFL players? Will the Pirates avoid a second-half collapse? Did Joe get a face lift? Leo Carlson is a loser somehow? Sean Gentille demands a proper introduction. Is this the golden era of offer sheets? Should the Pens offer Connor Bedard? Is Jason Robertson still in play? Will the Pens make the playoffs? Gentile's summer plans. Can a lake have a beach? Bechtold Breakdown with Sean - HR derby format change. Patrick Kane to the Pens, the uncertain futures of Kawhi Leonard and LeBron James, Zach Frazier is a breakout candidate? I'm actually glad to be back at work. Don't get me wrong…I thoroughly enjoy a long holiday weekend with friends, drinks, food, & fireworks. But I also really enjoy my routines. So, being back in the building and getting things done is a wonderful return to reality. We recapped our respective 4th of July weekends and we talked about some of the other stuff that went down over the last three days, including: the Brooklyn bridge catching fire a skydiver who crash-landed but survive a plane that got hit by a firework a kind of ridiculous stat about America's 250th Elsewhere in the news this morning, a recall on a popular dog food & a recall on wire grill brushes, a deadly boating accident on Lake Geneva, In sports, the Brewers had a nice weekend against the D-Backs including a 3-2 win yesterday, Brandon Woodruff is back on the IL, the Miz is going to the All-Star game but likely won't be pitching, Team USA takes on Belgium tonight in the World Cup round of 16…and Folarin Balogun will be on the pitch after President Trump called in a favor to FIFA. Which the Belgium coach isn't very happy about. We talked about what's on TV today/tonight and Brian recapped a movie that he & his wife watched this weekend called "Saccharine". Plus, some tidbits about the big celebrity wedding that went down in NYC on Friday. A glimmer of hope in Venezuela after the deadly earthquake last week as a dog was rescued from the rubble eight days later. And check out this new app that can apparently help to predict when someone is going to suffer an asthma attack. Today is "National Fried Chicken Day"…so we hooked you up with some of the deals you can take advantage of to save money. Elsewhere in sports, Chase Briscoe got a win at Chicagoland yesterday, Joey Chestnut won his 18th Mustard Belt on Saturday at the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog eating competition, Alexander Ovechkin is coming back for another season, Serena is out at Wimbledon due to an injury, and a Moroccan soccer fan dies when her scarf got caught in the rear wheel of a motorcycle she was riding. A new report about the "ultra-rich" has Brian wondering if he's in the 1%. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a wild brawl involving roofers, a dominatrix that wrapped a guy in Saran-wrap and poured milk all over him, a guy who had his car stolen while he was busy robbing a Verizon store, used breast implants are apparently available to buy online, and an airline that offered a WILD compensation package to anyone willing to give up their seat on a flight.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Ben Lindbergh and Meg Rowley banter about the firing of Perry Minasian and the Angels’ outlook under John Mozeliak, Molly Jolly, and Arte Moreno, how MLB is using official channels to publicly promote its position in labor bargaining, whether the Mets’ disappointing season will influence other teams’ approaches to roster construction, the popularity (or lack thereof) of Josh Naylor, Jacob Misiorowski and the imprecise nature of pitch-speed records, and the delightful debut of the Diamondbacks’ Mitch Bratt, plus a postscript about MLB’s ball-drag statement. Dan, Manny, & Billy put the American Gladiators franchise to the ultimate test—THE NOSTALGIA TEST! “It'd be a lot more American if they walked in the ring and just shot each other.” -Billy D'Elia While this episode was being recorded, the orange lunatic who's technically our “president” was building a UFC octagon on the front lawn of The White House, which was ultimately a disaster (F Joe Rogan). We all should've seen the free-fall of America coming in the late 80s when we were all watching American Gladiators on TV. This episode attempts to figure out what this show is, why were people into it, and why was it resurrected, twice! That's right, there is currently a new version with two seasons hosted by The Miz. Oh, and the first season of the 2026 version WAS FILMED IN FRANCE!? Now, all credit goes to each and every gladiator that was on this show because in 1989 they were treated like trash. Safety wasn't a thing, people were being knocked out, and gladiators were being forced to compete injured. Watching the “evolution” of American Gladiators is so interesting, because as the series continued the only thing that got updated were the games and the arena. They made it bigger and got rid of the cardboard cutout audience members. That's right! They did that. At the same time, the gladiators remained overworked, injured, and forced to literally fight people like they were circus animals in an underground fight club. This episode travels along a zig-zag path to get the controversial conclusion of the 2026 episode they watched, how The Miz is just screaming in people's faces, some of the best knockouts, faceplants, and announcer quotes, all the way to the guys talking about how they need a 100% win for an episode because this is killing their souls. So, grab your American flag bandanas, an oversized tank top, scream at the top of your lungs for no reason, and kick your best friend in the face, because it's time to talk American Gladiators! *** If you love what we're doing and want to support the podcast so we can keep this show going with better equipment and maybe meet up with each other to do some in-person recording, sponsor to The Nostalgia Test: buymeacoffee.com/nostalgiatest Lastly, we're looking to be booked for podcast appearances, hosting gigs and parties, maybe you have a block party coming up, a BBQ that you want to be Nostalgia themed and you're looking to make it seriously memorable, a reunion, etc., contact us to book the podcast. Ben Lindbergh and Ben Clemens banter about some suspicious variability in the ball’s behavior and whether the low-drag, high-home-run-rate times of the late 2010s have returned, Carlos Mendoza’s “departure” from the Mets, the Blue Jays’ dominance of “Phase 1” of All-Star voting, the hitters and pitchers who have most overperformed and underperformed their projections through the halfway point of the regular season, forsaking single-team fandom, platoon god Paul Goldschmidt, Dalton Rushing’s clash with Shohei Ohtani, the Pope’s audience with A.J. Pierzynski, MLB’s economic proposals, and more, plus Stat Blasts about an unusual homestand and the Nationals’ latest, not-so-greatest bullpen blowup(s). Ben Lindbergh and Meg Rowley banter about baseball’s time to shine after the NBA/NHL seasons and a structural difference between basketball and baseball, Jacob Misiorowski achieving escape velocity and entering the deGrom Zone (and a change he’s made that may matter more than his increased speed), the impending posting of red-hot Teruaki Sato, the losers and losers of the Rafael Devers deal one year later, what the trade deadline will look like in this topsy-turvy season, and (42:55) what MLB should do to avoid a repeat of the Giants’ Pride Night debacle, plus (1:25:45) closing banter about games starting/ending too early for night owls.
