Michael Colucci, a Summerville, South Carolina jeweler, is once again on trial for the death of his wife, seven years after his initial trial ended in a mistrial. This week—June 9th—marks the 47th anniversary of the 1978 revelation that ended the Church's 126-year ban on Black members receiving the priesthood and entering the temple. It's a moment we often point to with reverence and gratitude—but the story we've inherited about how it happened is, in many ways, incomplete. To help us understand more fully what led to that pivotal moment, we're joined by Dr. Matthew Harris, whose new book Second-Class Saints draws on previously unavailable documents—including the complete, unredacted journals from Pres. Spencer W. Kimball and private papers from several other apostles and prophets who were part of this story. What emerges is a story of complex revelation—one that didn't arrive all at once, but unfolded slowly through conversation, persuasion, and deep personal growth. We sometimes talk about the 1978 revelation as if it came out of nowhere—a sudden command from heaven. But Matt helps us see the reality that this was a process shaped by years of thoughtful wrestling and dialogue, by courageous individuals who quietly worked to open hearts and minds, and by the unwavering faith of Black members who carried impossible burdens with grace and conviction. In our conversation today, we explored what it means to be part of a living church—one that's capable of change because it's built on continuing revelation. We talked about how “doctrine” has been defined and redefined across the Church's history, the vital role each of us plays in the process of institutional revelation, because this isn't just about the past—it's about how we show up today: how we answer President Nelson's call to root out racism and build a more inclusive future within the body of Christ. We're deeply grateful to Matt for his careful, bold work. And with that, we'll jump right into our conversation with Matt Harris.Buy the book on Amazon: https://amzn.to/45a7IjlBuy from Bookshop.org: https://bookshop.org/a/108982/9780197695715

The government is expected to publish its 10-year Health Plan in June and neighbourhood health will form a key part of the plan.In an interview with the Telegraph last month health and social care secretary Wes Streeting highlighted a scheme from Brazil, that has been piloted in London, and involves community health and wellbeing workers providing outreach work. Could a model like this be part of neighbourhoods? There have been suggestions from several quarters that the scheme will be included in the 10-year plan.Talking General Practice spoke to doctors involved with this model back in 2023, so we thought it would be a good opportunity to revisit that now.So in this episode Emma speaks to Dr Matt Harris and Dr Connie Junghans-Minton about the initiative and how it is improving the use of health services among patients in London, which will hopefully result in better health outcomes.Matt, who's now a clinical reader in public health medicine at Imperial College London, saw the scheme in action first hand when he worked as a GP in Brazil, and it was his idea to bring the model to this country. He explains how the scheme works and why he thought it could help people in the UK. Meanwhile, Connie discusses how her practice introduced the initiative for some of their most deprived patients, and the impact it has had.Useful linksTelegraph story - NHS sent door-to-door to tackle sickness crisis Hosted on Acast. Becky Hill, the former Colleton County clerk of court, was arrested and charged with obstructing justice and misconduct in Colleton County and perjury in Richland County. The perjury charge stems from her testimony in a January 2024 hearing into whether Alex Murdaugh would get a new trial based on Hill's alleged jury tampering. Justice Toal ruled that Murdaugh should not get a new trial. Murdaugh's defense team has appealed that decision to the SC State Supreme Court. Asha Degree was just nine years old when she disappeared from her home in Shelby, North Carolina, more than 25 years ago. Since then, various law enforcement agencies, including local, state, and federal authorities, have been working to solve the case. In the past few months there appears to have been some movement in the case. In this episode we hear from the hosts of the podcast Crackhouse Chronicles https://www.crackhousechronicles.com/ . Donnie Peeler and Dale Champion, have been involved in the case of Asha Degree since her disappearance in 2000. They have done many episodes on the case since starting their podcast and have a unique vantage point due to the fact they are from Asha's hometown of Shelby, NC. In September 2024, several search warrants were executed by law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office, as part of an investigation into the connection between Asha's disappearance and a local family. These warrants named the Dedmon family members—Roy Dedmon, his wife Connie Dedmon, and their three daughters: AnnaLee Dedmon Ramirez, Lizzie Dedmon Foster, and Sarah Dedmon Caple. It was during the execution of these search warrants that investigators publicly announced for the first time that they believed Asha Degree had been murdered. Additionally, authorities suggested that the Dedmon sisters might have had a role in the suspected crime. However, the Dedmon family has consistently denied any involvement in the disappearance of Asha Degree. In February 2025, WBTV obtained three new search warrants related to the ongoing investigation. These warrants were executed on February 13, 2025, as part of the continuing effort to uncover the truth. A new witness has come forward, claiming to have heard a confession related to the case. At the time Asha disappeared, Lizzie Foster was 16 years old, and Sarah Dedmon Caple was 15. The witness stated that he had socialized with the Dedmon sisters at various bars and house parties in the mid-2000s. He alleged that during one particular house party, he overheard Foster confess something related to Asha's disappearance. Seton, Matt and the Crackhouse Chronicle guys break down the entire Asha Degree story and the latest information. Andy Moorman and Mark Moyer are the defense attorneys for Zachary Hughes, who was convicted of murdering Christina Parcell. The case was dubbed the Rose Petal Murder by Fitsnews. Andy and Mark discussed the case on this episode. In the previous episode we heard about the case from the solicitor's perspective. The trial of the murder of Christina Parcell began on February 10, 2025. It concluded 2/21/2025 with Zachary Hughes being sentenced to life for the murder of Parcell. Hughes had a very unusual defense. He admitted to killing Parcell but he claimed it was to protect her daughter. There are eight other episodes on this case. Those were released on January 10, 13, 21 February 14th and Feb 17th, February 24, March 4, and March 27. Here is more background on the Parcell case. On Oct 13, 2021, 41 year old Christina Parcell was found brutally murdered in Greer, SC. Parcell had suffered 31 stab wounds and www.Fitsnews.com dubbed the homicide the Rose Petal Murder because rose petals were found scattered around Parcell's body. Shortly after her murder Parcell's fiancé was arrested, but not on charges relating to her murder. Parcell had also been involved in a contentious custody battle with the father of her child. This horrific story involves murder and allegations of criminal sexual conduct with minors and buggery. Jaden's Law We talk to the mother of Jaden Phillips about a proposed legislation, bill H 3601, “Jaden's Law.” The bill is of great significance to Jaden's family after tragically losing their 19 year old son in a boating accident. “Jaden's Law” is designed to address critical gaps in the South Carolina's response system for boating accents. It would enact new requirements for 911 dispatchers to access injuries and the nature of the accident. Additionally, it would implement improvements on how law enforcement agencies are notified and work together to properly investigate accidents involving deaths and homicides. Jaden's mother seeks to give him a voice and improve the current system in hopes it helps other families. This episode examines the South Carolina Capital punishment. How is it decided whether a murder becomes a capital offense? Who decides whether someone might face the death penalty? Why was Alex Murdaugh not charged with a capital offense? Those questions and more are answered by former U.S. States Attorney for the District of South Carolina, Bill Nettles. Nettles discusses a very interesting case in which he defended a man on death row. Bill Nettles possesses an extraordinary, almost unparalleled depth and breadth of experience. You cannot find an attorney who will be better equipped to provide you with the high-quality representation you deserve. Mr. Nettles was appointed United States Attorney for the District of South Carolina by President Obama and was sworn into that office on May 3, 2010. As the US Attorney, he dramatically overhauled the office to focus on public corruption, fraud and white collar crime, while also greatly increasing resources to the extraordinarily important false claims whistleblower division. Under Mr. Nettles' leadership, the US Attorney's office made white collar crime and public corruption the highest priority of the criminal division's efforts. He also earned national praise for the innovative and intelligent approach his office took to drug crimes. Mr. Nettles was the longest serving US attorney since the 1960's, ensuring he had an extraordinary impact on the personnel and the policies of that important office. Because of his service as the United States Attorney for the entire state of South Carolina he has worked with the heads of the Department of Justice to help shape policy for the last 5 and a half years. Before being appointed a US Attorney, Mr. Nettles graduated from The Citadel and earned his law degree at The Widener University School of Law, where he was on law review and was a member of the moot court honor society. After graduating, he began a career that has taken him into every corner of the legal system. Starting in 2005, he worked at Sanders & Nettles, LLC until being appointed the US Attorney. If you find yourself in need of an experienced lawyer in South Carolina and you want to speak with our attorney about your case, please call the Law Office of Bill Nettles at 803-284-8906 for a free consultation.
