Kelly Webster is a female business owner in Baton Rouge who owns the very first franchise of an ultra popular DIY Boutique called AR Workshop! This edition of Local Leaders the podcast covers her decision to seek a franchise of AR Workshop and how her fiancé Jimmy Miller provides a ENTHUSIASTIC and positive spin she is thankful to have. We take you through her early thoughts on covid and how her company transitioned quickly to adapt! In this episode you also feel as though you have meet Maureen (Anders) and Adria (Ruff). These two are the designers behind the 2010 design company Anders Ruff®, a popular graphic design, party styling, DIY blog and online shop. Anders Ruff® quickly evolved from an Etsy shop, to their own branded e-commerce platform and blog where thousands would visit and shop their online store for printable party goodies. They coined the blog column, “Ruff Draft”, which was a source of DIY inspiration and ideas for many years. 6 years later and many creative ideas completed, these two had demands from fans and clients to offer hands-on workshops where they could teach their skills to others. Their dream of coming out from behind the screen to offer DIY workshops for home decor and other creative skills came true! The vision was to create an inspiring and charming boutique workshop that not only offers classes but sells unique and beautiful retail items that Maureen and Adria use in their styling jobs and photoshoots for magazines and celebrities! AR Workshop® was born! Their DIY loving audience quickly noticed the AR Workshop® brand and concept, and started asking to open their own locations. Now here they are, over 3 years later with more than 150 franchise locations across the country with a brand new one in Baton Rouge courtesy of franchise owner Kelly Webster! The mission to reunite lost pets with their families starts with Susannah's own shelter rescue, Ace, a plucky Maltese mix with a mysterious past who narrowly survived months wandering lost. Along the way, Susannah finds a part of herself also lost. And when unexpected heartbreak shatters her own sense of direction, it is Ace—the shelter dog that started it all—who leads Susannah home. Inquisitive, instructive, heartrending, and hopeful, Where the Lost Dogs Go pays tribute to the missing dogs—and to the found—and to the restless space in between.

In this episode, I speak with Jeremy Lent. Jeremy is the author of "The Pattering Instinct: A Cultural History of Humanity's Search for Meaning" and founder and president of the nonprofit Liology Institute. The premise of "The Patterning Instinct" is that culture shapes values, and that values shape history. Through this exploration, Jeremy has examined various cultures and societies and determined the underlying premises of their cultural stories, and how the underlying premises of these stories and metaphors informs how the collective patterns meaning onto the world and their place within it. We discuss the ways, through our understanding of humanity's pattering instinct, how our culture and society can begin to move away from the underlying premises that inform our patterns of meaning and begin to adopt more holistic understandings and relationships with our fellow human beings and life on this planet. We go over the response and underlying premise of Jeremy's widely shared, recently published article "The Dangerous Delusions of Richard Dawkins" published originally in AlterNet and picked up by Raw Story and Salon. We discuss the increasingly irrelevant theory of the "selfish gene" originally proposed by Richard Dawkins, and the reductionist worldview this meme supports, beyond it's biological roots. Jeremy explains why he wrote this piece, and why the article has received the response it has. The next Heartcast session is from a cult hero and good friend of Love Dose, COTTAM. Cottam first came to wider attention with a series of limited edition 12″s released from 2009 onwards, showcasing his production talents by re-working afro-beat, neo-soul, funk & hip-hop into quirky deep house burners. He has gone on to release original music & reworks on Story, Use Of Weapons, Aus, Amp Art, Flight Recorder, Sound Of Speed, Endless Flight, Phonica, Wolf Music, Delusions Of Grandeur, Tru Thoughts & Audio Parallax and DJed around the world mixing techno, deep house, disco and anything else with a groove into a rich sonic stew. 2014 saw the realisation of a long held ambition with the launch of his own label, Ruff Draft. The first release came from the man himself and future releases are lined up from LK, Louis Guilleme & Robot84.
