Born in New York, some of his earliest musical influences included his mother's love for soca music and the distinct Caribbean rhythms of his culture. An appreciation of Jazz would be further guided by his father's expanding audiophile home system. Moving to Detroit in 1980, the start of the decade where Techno would take formation, put him at the center of music history while simultaneously working at the now famed nightclub “The Music Institute”Relocating to Atlanta to attend Morehouse College, he took it upon himself to bring more of the authentic House and Techno flavor to his new home, playing at numerous clubs and bars in the metro area. Eventually this led to DEEP, his aptly-named, game changing decade long Saturday night residency at local club MJQ, where he would bring guests such as King Britt, Steve “Silk” Hurley, Peven Everett, Kerri Chandler, Phil Asher and Joe Claussell. It is during the 2000s that Kai really sets his stride. 2002 saw the release of his first production, ‘The Kaizer EP', on Brett Dancer's seminal deep house label Track Mode. After a few releases on other labels such as Moodymann's Mahogani Music, Deep Explorer & Real Soon. A few years later he would co-found the Labor Day weekend outdoor event House In The Park with DJ Ramon Rawsoul which now has over 15,000 attendees.2008 saw the creation of his label NDATL and the first edition of his annual Deep Detroit. NDATL stands for the cities that have played a role in his musical development: New York, Detroit, ATLanta. Which is home to many of his own productions and A List producers such as Larry Heard, Mr. G, Theo Parrish & Mike Huckaby to name a few.e has recently curated the boutique Kai Alcé Eyewear line. “The Kaizer” never stops moving. A love of life, mixed with his flair for originality, willingness to experiment and devotion to the dancefloor has cemented his place as a pillar in American dance music history. Whatever comes next from Mr. Alcé, you can be assured that it will be classy, soulful, fulfilling and funky. www.ndatl.comRecorded on April 7, 2025 in Brooklyn, NY.

“God said, give 'em drum machines—and see what happens.” That's the dream Mike Huckaby shared, and it's the heartbeat of God Said Give 'Em Drum Machines, the acclaimed documentary by Detroit filmmaker Kristian Hill that restores techno's true story—deeply rooted in Black Detroit creativity, culture, and resilience. “We had a grocery store on Hastings Street. My grandfather ran numbers,” Hill recalls, grounding his storytelling in generations of Detroit legacy, from his grandmother Mabel White teaching home economics at Kettering and cooking for Aretha Franklin, to DJing with friends like Al Ester and parking cars outside Cheeks while legends like Jeff Mills and Stacey Hale spun inside. The film traces the untold journey of techno's pioneers—Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May, Eddie Fowlkes, Blake Baxter, and Santonio Echols—as Hill and his team follow the music from Detroit to Amsterdam, Japan, South Africa, and even Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, where locals called it “the Detroit of Russia” and clubs pulsed with Detroit's sound. “We got the stars,” Hill says, referring to the Belleville Three and others, “but nobody ever tells the story.” Fueled by years of footage and shaped in long, late-night edit sessions, the documentary is not only a cinematic reclaiming of techno's Black roots but a personal odyssey of creative purpose. “It's not just a link. It's an experience,” Hill emphasizes, reminding audiences that this is more than a movie—it's Detroit history set to a beat that moved the world. Detroit might be synonymous with techno, but it also has a rich house tradition. And Rick Wade—FKA Big Daddy Rick—is one of Detroit house's key players. Along with the likes of Keith Worthy, Theo Parrish and the late Mike Huckaby (who Wade had a lifelong friendship and friendly rivalry with), he created a hybrid sound that is both techno and house, effortlessly soulful, sculpted and glowing—and Midwest to the core. As Tajh Morris said in a retrospective review of one of his classic records, "growing up in Buchanan, Michigan, meant that Wade was much closer to Chicago than he was to Detroit." Many of Wade's best records were released on Harmonie Park, his era-defining label that also featured plenty of work from Huckaby. Those EPs still sound fresh and timeless today, qualities that extend to Wade's RA Podcast, which features 90 minutes of smooth-as-butter house old and new. Over the years he's kept the flame burning for the smouldering sounds of Detroit house, working in sounds from younger producers like Folamour along the way. Enjoy listening to a master at work. @rick-wade Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/923

Our next premiere of the day features Irish DJ and producer BALMR with his track “Paths Unknown” featuring on Sofa Movements Records. The track is as introspectively deep-house as one can imagine. Drawing clear experience from Detroit which makes for top-tier listening. Get dug into this! Raised on the seemingly ingrained House sound of Cork and its heavy influence by renowned and revered House heads Fish Go Deep and their Sweat Nights at the legendary Sir Henry's Club it was an inevitable progression for BALMR to follow the path of producer and DJ. In his own words: ‘It was difficult to escape the sound of House Music growing up in Cork'. Over the past decade, BALMR's released material on Nordic Trax, Kolour Detroit, Expanded Records and more, while hosting his own Down Right Deep Show on Deep House Radio. Here, presenting his new latest collection of works, ‘Paths Unknown' sees BALMR captures moments in time and individual journeys to paths previously undiscovered. BALMR always had a personal love for the Detroit sound, particularly artists like Norm Talley, Mike Huckaby, Delano Smith, Moodymann and so on, which naturally lead him to his production journey. He has had numerous releases and remixes in his catalogue as well as working on mixing for other artists on labels like Yore. He is also one of half of the duo ‘Southbounds Sounds', having recently featured as a guest on Lars Behrenroths DSOH show. As well as this stunning release, BALMR has several other upcoming projects this year, including 2 vinyl-only releases with one on ‘Selections Label' out of Toronto featuring a remix from Glenn Davis, and another on Deeper Groove with his fellow collaboration partner Deep Excavations, featuring a remix from John Daly. Honing in on his latest bit of production material, ‘Paths Unknown' opens the flip side, as the composition dives deep and back into immersive and airy realms through subtly nuanced textures, resonant synth licks and snaking bass grooves. Dreamy atmospheres can be heard throughout this composition which is utterly filled with warmth and depth throughout. NYC's Andrew Devlin takes a break from his usual dance floor facilitation to offer us a poolside soundtrack inspired by a recent stay at The Standard hotel in Miami Beach. Q. Where do things currently sit on @thelevelparty front, and what other projects have you been busily chipping away at? A. What's that line? “We've been coming to the same party for 12 years now, and in no way is that depressing.” I think we're nearing 10 now. In any case, the party feels like it's in a really good place. After doing it more or less solo for a minute, I brought 5 residents on board who I love dearly–Alien D, KFeelz, Nigelthreetimes, No Sir, and Yibing. Everyone has so much range and energy, it's been special getting the group together. I'm really excited for our Glen Falls House weekender upstate in July (14-16). We get to take over this little hotel in the woods for a weekend and stretch out. It's a dream. Big shoutout Josh Houtkin at Good Room for all his work making that a reality. Past that, we've got some shows at our usual spots, Le Bain and Good Room, as well as a couple of day parties at Public Records' new Nursery and a July 4 BBQ at Mansions. Would really like to bring the group of us to some other cities soon. I dream about heading back to New Orleans, doing Level Miami, Level Mexico City, Ibiza, etc…Anyone reading this wants to get in touch, let's build ;) Personally, I run a small sound company here in NYC, so I'm trying to grow that business and maintain my sanity. I'd like to get back into making music soon, even just a few cheeky edits. Start a podcast (I know, I know). And eventually open up a venue. A pub of sorts with good food and music. Q. What inspiration did you draw upon when putting the mix together? There is, in fact, a pretty specific one. This mix is dedicated to the pool at the Standard in Miami. I went in January for the first time and recorded this when I got home. The vibe there is so strong. You're sitting outside, eating the best caprese salad of your life, there's a 2' iguana crawling on a palm tree, you've got a green juice or a margarita in one hand. Everyone is having a good time and partying in this really respectful way. They're just sipping on a cocktail or walking to the hot tub or making out in the pool. I thought a lot of that had to do with the soundsystem and the music programming–there are speakers everywhere (including underwater) playing at like 6/10 volume. The music is on a sort of soulful r&b/ balearic tip. I was on Shazam all weekend. So this mix is a dedication to that–if someone gave me 80 minutes to DJ the Standard Miami pool, this is what I would play. Q. Are there any records in the mix that are particularly close to your heart, or old favourites that you've been keeping up your sleeve for the right moment? A. Definitely. To run through a couple… ”Wall Street” I discovered reading Dub by Michael Veal. Great book for anyone interested in DJ'ing, soundsystems, production, etc. I got really into Jackie Mittoo reading that, and have been playing that track since. The Lauryn Hill track, “Sweetest Thing” I heard in a coffee shop in Amsterdam in 2009, forgot about completely, then recently re-discovered. “Don't Break my Heart” is a big song for my wife and me. We both stumbled on it when we started dating at the beginning of 2020. We almost chose it as our first dance at the wedding, but thought the lyrics were a little dark. Anyway, big tune at the house. And the last track, the Mike Huckaby remix, is close to my heart. I was lucky enough to meet Mike a few years ago and gave him a ride to his hotel after a gig. He had just played for 3 hours and all he wanted to talk about was my Volkswagen Jetta. He was really such a sweet, warm guy, and this track always makes me think of him. R.I.P. Thanks so much for having me on this! Been a huge fan of MDC for a long time, and the radio shows and mix specials got me through lockdown over here. Means a lot to be a part of it. Much love.

Spinning Plates welcomes New Yorker DJ Spider onto its roster to kick off 2022 with his ‘Enter The Void' EP, backed by a remix from Phil Moffa aka The Butcha. Rob Hampton, better known to most as DJ Spider, has been releasing his twisted take on Techno and experimental electronica for over a decade on the likes of The Trilogy Tapes, REKIDS, Vanguard Sound! and Berceuse Heroique as well as his and Dakini's own Plan B Recordings and its sub-labels BTU and Sublevel Sounds. Here he joins the roster of Spinning Plates, the London-based label that's established itself as a go to purveyor for leftfield leaning Techno, Electro and more. ‘Incineration Of Years And Truth', our premiere for today, completes the EP, edging things into a dubby territory courtesy of smooth chord sequences, spiraling echoes and bumpy, reduced drums. DJ SPIDER: This record is dedicated to my good friend Mike Huckaby. He planned on remixing "Incineration of Years and Truth" back when I originally made it in 2011, but we never got around to actually making that happen. I'm also honored to have my other close friend Phil Moffa on remix duties. There were many sessions in Phil's studio (Butcha Sound Studio, NYC) where we used to jam with Mike whenever he would come to New York to DJ or hang out. We used to play with synthesizers for hours. We were all good friends and it was perfect to have Phil on this record as well! Mike taught and inspired us to have fun with making music and push ourselves to be the best that we can be. OUTER DIMENSION PREMIERE 094 Track Title: @alarico_z - The Wanderer Album Title: Cut Yo' Finger Label: @newrhythmicrecords Catalogue Number: NRDR114 Format: Digital Release Date: November 18th, 2020 Written, produced and mixed by Alarico Mastered by Jose Angel Palacios at Newrhythmic Studio - León, Spain. About the release: Alarico is a young producer and dj from Milan born in 1999 and strongly shaped by late 90s/early 2000s techno by artists such as Glenn Wilson, Regis, Surgeon, Sterac and Mike Huckaby. Always seeking for groove and fast paced rhythms his style is deeply influenced by the old school era of Techno music, in this sense he wants to present his Ep on Newrhytmic Records with 4 raw and loopy cuts strictly made for clubs. "Cut Yo' Finger" is raw as it sounds. It's a very minimalistic track where groove is everything and few hi hats glues up the whole track driven by short decay percussions with a lot of rumble. "Fast Paced" is loopy and raw as well but with a bit more of a strange/trippy touch especially as soon as the pitched Rides enter the tracks. "Rotten" is the hardest of the ep. It's a track made out of a rolling bass sequence and a dissonant sequence made out of 3 violins, then hats and pads enter to create tension and a strange voice comes out of nowhere. "The Wanderer" has the aim to describe someone who is lost and wandering without a purpose while his life is passing by. The real protagonist of this track is the repeating bass sequence with a bit of Lfo and the chords in the background created using the same bass. As soon as the track goes a shaker with a slightly "off beat" hat sequence comes in and some violins enter the scene creating a climax. Chubby! on Facebook: www.facebook.com/chubbyrecords @aleqsnotal For this episode we have the super talented Paris based artist, Alexis aka Aleqs Notal with his deeper selections. Since a young age, Aleqs Notal has been a true vinyl enthusiast & coming from the Hip-Hop scene, he would go on to become a prolific mixer; notably becoming the Red Bull 3Style World Turntablist champion as "Dj Karve" back in 2010. The other side of Alexis career shifts gears into his brand of Deep House & Techno with atmosphere. His style can traverse through the vibes of Disco, Latin Jazz and Space or moods of pure Soul with the excellent use of percussion to control the groove flows. Since 2014, Alexis has released Gem EPs on C.C.B Recordings, Phonogramme, Visions, Finale Sessions, Sistrum & RDV; In addition to various appearances on the Paris Music Club compilations, he is also the first French DJ to play in Fela Kuti's Shrine. Alexis's self established Imprint "Industrial Light" features more of his exclusive Deep House delights. Its certainly worthy to explore... Alexis has shared stage with pioneers like Jazzy Jeff, Larry Heard, Patrice Scott, Mike Huckaby, Moodymann & so on…. He would also go on to command venues as a well known resident DJ at La Machine du Moulin Rouge & the Rex Club; in addition to making crowds dance with frequent shows at famous clubs like Concrete, 6B, Rinse France, Panorama Bar, Tresor, Fabric London and so many more have had the pleasure of Aleqs Notal in control of the floor. Expect plenty of tasteful selections, deep vibes and classic housey moods on this autumn cruise, all aboard Vol.87 with Aleqs Notals behind the ones and twos.

Bedroom x RTS.FM Budapest w/ @nick-beringer [Rubisco - Berlin] Recorded and streamed live at Központ, Budapest on 28th August 2020. YouTube: https://youtu.be/YCgKcuF9DIs Bedroom: https://www.facebook.com/bedroomcrew.budapest Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/284316326239883 Venue: https://www.facebook.com/kozpontbudapest NICK BERINGER [Rubisco - Berlin] It is often said of Nick Beringer that he is a defender of the good old Berlin style. What that means is instead of flashy tricks and effects-heavy sets, he locks people in with his perfect pacing, timely selections and long mixes. Atmospheric house, dub techno and freakier electro define his always journeying soundtracks. Of course, he will also pull out the classics and jump through styles to suit the mood of a more playful party, or trip you out with weirdness at the afters. Either way, a knowing skill underlines everything he does in the booth. Nick started out in indie bands playing guitar, eventually moving on to making his own beats and sampling from his Nintendo GameBoy, the only electronic sounds he had to hand. A move to Berlin to study lead him on an exploration of the city’s nocturnal soundscapes. A fascination with nineties house and garage informed his first releases, and also lead him to an enduring friendship with Beste Modus. Initially a vinyl-only DJ inspired by the analogue warmth, human roughness and deep feelings of the likes of Mike Huckaby and Moodymann, Nick eventually evolved his set up and now uses all tools at his disposal to find his perfect sweet spot. Since 2015 he has spent a few days a week in his studio, meditating on music and going wherever the mood takes him. As such he will often find himself making ambient, hip hop or techno without knowing how he got there. “If you’re only trying to chase a certain style that is fashionable right now, tracks will always sound forced,” he says rightly. “What I’m trying to do is to pick out my favorite pieces from modern styles, but take them back to the old school Detroit and Berlin kinda approach, which is stripped down and club focused house music.” Inspired to turn on his hardware by a wide range of starting points, Nick is able to strip things right down to their bare essentials and still suck in the dancers and make a lasting impression. Evidence of this comes in his diverse discography on labels like Taverna Tracks, Dorian Paic’s Raum Musik, and his own label Rubisco where he can release whatever he likes. Past EPs like Nocturnal, Passage or Slope & Dip showcase his seamless mix of the old and the new and have resulted in truly timeless club tracks. All of this has made Beringer an in demand name by tasteful clubs and crews across Australia, Europe and at hotspots like Watergate and Tresor. His own crew, which also hosts parties in clubs like Griessmuehle and Ipse, is a thriving collective full of creativity and is one of the reasons Nick Beringer is now an essential part of house and techno conversation in Berlin and beyond. https://soundcloud.com/nick-beringer https://www.facebook.com/nick.beringer.3/ RTS.FM Budapest: YouTube: https://bit.ly/rtsfmbudapest SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/rtsfm/sets/rts-fm-budapest Mixcloud: https://www.mixcloud.com/rtsfmbudapest RTS.FM Budapest archives: YouTube: https://bit.ly/rtsfmbudapest SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/rtsfm/sets/rts-fm-budapest Mixcloud: https://www.mixcloud.com/rtsfmbudapest

Avenue Red welcomes Prakash, an experienced DJ and producer from the Spanish island of Gran Canaria, one of the Canary Islands about 150 kilometres off the northwestern coast of Africa. Prakash is a very knowledgeable guy and has been collecting music and spinning for almost 15 years, along the way releasing stacks of masterful mixtapes and playing at some interesting gigs internationally, as well as at home. He also turned his hand to music production and running his own vinyl label, Travellin Music, where he has featured on the only release to date with a remix from Vancouver tech house legend Jay Tripwire. Prakash is a true cross-genre DJ, but it's clear to see his strong focus on the 90's/early 2000's tech house sounds from the origin of the genre. He lists among his Music idols: Craig Richards, Terry Francis, Steve Bug, Mike Huckaby, ZIP, Move D, Kerri Chandler, Nathan Coles, Bushwacka! and Silverlining AKA Asad Rizvi. That list makes for a tidy aperitif for what's in store in this presentation, his glowing CD-length mix for Avenue Red. "I'm Prakash from Gran Canaria. I have been sharing my music taste since 2006 when I was studying at Loughborough University in England, UK and always try to squeeze music from various genres into my sets to keep things spicy and interesting. I insisted on adding a tracklist for the trainspotters, so find it below! :)" Prakash Peswani, August 2020 https://soundcloud.com/prakashmusic ===== 01 J. - Zenith // YYK no label (2017) 02 Deenamic - First Inversion // Freebeat (2019) 03 Boo Williams - Day And Night // Residual Recordings (1998) 04 Leo Pol - You're Maybe The One // IILE (2019) 05 Donnie Tempo - TCB // Moreaboutmusic (2012) 06 Gideon & Rob H - Don't Hold Back // Loaded Records (2000) 07 EDMX - The Vigilante // Ride The Gyroscope (2016) 08 Giammarco Orsini - Italia 90 // Partisan (2019) 09 Housey Doingz - Ride // Pagan (1997) 10 Qnete - Sand Progression // X-Kalay (2019) 11 Jaz - Beatboxin' // Jump Recordings (2000) 12 Silverlining - Easy Living // Eukahouse (1997) 13 Eddie Richards - House // End Recordings (2001) 14 Antonelli - The Source Of Design // Italic (1999) 15 Archie Hamilton Feat. MIX BACKGROUND In a short period of time we have lost at least three greats in the electronic music world and the music world at large. this mix is dedicated to three of them: The first three selected songs for the mix are from our music heros and were planned for the middle of the mix with the intent to work forwards and backwards from there. the songs are: Manu Dibango's "Mauna Pola11 from his Waka Juju album, Mike Huckaby's "Fantasy" from his EP My Life with the Wave and Tony Allen's 11 Kilode11 from his album Lagos No Shaking. The mix opens up with 3 other selected tracks whose purpose is to guide the listener through the mourning process for the music legends. Placing the songs in the middle accents their importance in upholding the mix and providing a framework for the tribute, while also illustrating how music of different genres can be bridged together in a reverent and coherent manner while still pointing the listener towards the focus of the mix. Slowly the mix leaves the mourning process to a celebration of life and short dance before returning the listener to moments of introspection, again bridged by the works from Mr. Allen, Mr. Huckaby, and Rr. Dibango.

Publishing his mixes online somehow got him international recognition as a DJ and after relocating himself to London, he also got involved in the local house music scene. Through his involvement with various radio stations that syndicated the Urban Haven radioshow, he's decided to explore more and developed a taste for the sophisticated fusion of electronic music and live instruments. After years of collecting and playing music for others, Urban Haven decided to contribute to the scene as a producer and we are pleased to share with you his debut release "Human Experience EP" on Just 4 The Beat Records @just4thebeat-records. Just 4 The Beat Records is an independent label founded in 2015 and run by Alix John, based in east london, suppling both vinyl & digital releases. Alix and Juraj met at that time in a party and their mutual appreciation for the music was the catalyst for a connection which then developed into a solid friendship . With strong support from the likes of Mike Huckaby & Kai Alce, this project is finaly brought to life in the form of a physical release. Due out on 12’ in September, "Human Experience" is a solid EP offering timeless deep and soulful house gems, including the beautiful Reprise Mix of "Roots", that we are sharing with you today.

Matt Thibideau is a Canadian producer, who has been involved in making electronic music since the late 90s. Originally from Wallaceburg, a small town located close to Detroit, and now based in Toronto, his first records as Altitude were released on Blue Recordings. Quickly, he began contributing to other local labels such as Chair and Cynosure Recordings. In 2001, he started together with his twin brother Mark, a new project called “Repair” It was dedicated to all of the old broken synthesizers that they had in their studio. The first songs were quickly signed to both Sub-Static records (Germany) as “V-Wreck” and then Dumb-Unit records as “Black Line Display”. Matt has performed live at several venues and festivals and focuses on using Analog and Digital hardware without a laptop. Throughout Matt’s Career, he has performed with the likes of Monolake, Deadbeat, Mike Shannon, Mathew Johnson, Daniel Bell, Krihan, S.I.T., Mike Huckaby, Octave One, Christina Sealy (Orphyx), Molly, Barbara Preisinger, Falko Brocksieper, Nicholas Jar, Eric Miller, Pantone, Akufen, Audio Werner, Raresh, Deepchord, Vera and Isolee amongst many others. Matt & Mark started a small label called “Obsolete Components” based on using his old synthesizers and recording equipment. They were also featured in the documentary “I Dream Of Wires”. Recently Matt has released both old and new music under the moniker “Altitude” for 7th city (Detroit), Assemble and Helena records , Vade Mecum and Irenic. In early 2018 Matt and Mark released a joined record for Joule Imprint in France called “Two sides” that followed a remix on Sushitech for Rhauder and Tikiman called “Stabilize”. This hardware only live cut was recorded 2019 in Toronto for our Equilibrisme Podcast Series. Enjoy!!!

Mike Huckaby is best known as the former manager of Record Time's legendary Dance Room, a store that helped define the musical taste of an entire generation of Detroit DJs. Since the store closed in 2011, Huckaby has come out from behind the counter and has made his own way as an international DJ, surprising many by mixing Tresor's 20th Anniversary Compilation and assuming the role as the semi-official remixer of all things Sun Ra. Add to this his work teaching students young and old about creating electronic music via his relationships with Ableton and Native Instruments, and you'll start to see an artist who has truly created a distinct niche in the often cookie-cutter world of record selectors.

In 2008 I started a series of radio shows with fellow Freak and host, Jonny Rock. The original format was based around vinyl. Digital started to creep in, then CD's, then YouTube rips, and so on. But the idea remained the same, that we were sharing our discoveries with an audience. Fast forwarding a couple of years and expanding on the original concept, I will once again be playing dance music that you may or may not have heard, but this time said music will be readily available, if pointed in the right direction of course. The idea is for you to use me as your selector slash shop assistant in a virtual record store. Not only will I be shouting about both old and new music, but I will also be following it up with a series of compilations to be released on my label, Classic throughout the year. I will be your slightly odd, slightly off-centre, guide. But ultimately and most importantly, your friendly on-line record shop assistant. April Track Listing 01. By the next year Ferguson began Deejaying and consuming a wide range of vinyl records which included, Detroit & Chicago House, Detroit Techno, Disco, & Funk. On the recommendation of UR founder ‘Mad’ Mike Banks, Ferguson purchased the Ensoniq ASR-10 in 1998. The ASR workstation would become the most intregal part of his sample heavy, filtered down sound. Ferguson released his first 12″ record on his own imprint in 2001 and since has released records on Kenny Dixon Jr.’s ‘Mahogani Music’, as well as Reggie Doke’s ‘Psychostatia Recordings’. In 2012 Ferguson started two new projects, the ‘Black Boxx’ project using only 3 black hardware boxes to compose simple, yet effective, loop based machine music and JBSF with fellow DJ/Producer Jitterbug. Scott’s productions have been played and charted by legendary Deejays including Derrick May, Larry Heard, Theo Parrish, Moodymann, Marcellus Pittman, Rick Wade, and Mike Huckaby. Currently Ferrispark Records is still manufacturing and selling 12″ vinyl records and Ferguson is still travelling the world playing them. Scott's mix is influenced by Detroit radio stations like WJLB that he used to listen to on the weekends during his early twenties.

For the 23rd Avenue Red Podcast we present Manchester-based DJ Rikki Humphrey, a notorious crate digger and a stylistically diverse DJ who does not identify with genre boundaries when considering his musical selections. His taste for deep, underground House and Techno was founded on listening to old Radio One Essential Mixes and his instinctive ear for unearthing new musical sounds led him to start collecting records, purchase a pair of Technics 1210 mk2 decks and begin mixing. He has never looked back and he is now certifiably a true vinyl junkie. As well as hosting monthly online radio shows on The Underground Sessions and holding down residencies at Nest in Leeds, Studio 89 in Cardiff and Etc in Manchester, Rikki has also supported some of the finest underground DJs around, including the likes of Mike Huckaby, Italojohnson, Jeremy 'Underground Paris', Jay Daniel, Bicep, Maurice Fulton and Hunee. Rikki is also a very hard-working podcaster, dishing out tantalizing selections of wax to a wide range of respected labels including Feel My Bicep, Banoffee Pies, Roots For Bloom, City Fly and many more. Armed with a well-rounded musical exposure, saving to afford production equipment has become a priority for Rikki in recent months in order to capture the sounds and styles of records he has fallen in love with over the years. His aim is: "To create instinctive dance floor jams with a distinct electronic edge, which make your neck snap and your body jack... or to take you off the dancefloor altogether to somewhere completely different". He already has some very high quality tracks released on Hull's Freche Früchte Recordings, Dublin-based label Swink Music and also Danish label Two House Limited. With up-coming releases on a few different UK labels as well as a string of remixes in the pipeline, Rikki is certainly one to keep an eye out for! @slickyrik ===== No tracklist was provided for this mix, but do feel free to ask for track ID's in the comments.

Along with musical cohort Brendan Clark, Carl runs and is resident at a London-based Deep House night called Northern Purpose, which alongside it's own highly respected podcast series of the same name has a stunning roster of past guests including Daniel Bell, Mike Huckaby, Dubbyman and Jane Fitz. You get the idea! Carl also co-runs and spins records at Collective Minds in Birmingham, yet another name clearly established on the map of the UK underground music scene having had 2 big events last year that drew a lot of attention with their dazzlingly good line-ups. When we received this stunning all-vinyl mix we couldn't identify a single track. That was a first. Anyway, in his's own words... "The mix is basically a builder so you get a bit of everything from deep dub / house / techno / minimal / electronic. A lot of nice new records in there and also some old gems (in my eyes)." By definition, a mix is a spectrum, and in this case, a collection of songs unified and differentiated by the softer, more delicate side of house music. This mix also marks the 3 year anniversary since releasing first mix back in June 2010. After going back and listening to my first few mixes, it's interesting to reflect on how my mix styles and taste have varied as much as they've stayed the same over time...The mixes fill a spectrum of their own and are perhaps indicative of what I've recently been finding, which is that at various levels of abstraction, all things are connected in some way, despite their differences. Rich Korach discovered underground electronic music in 1994, finally encountering the sound that would transform the rest of his life. Growing up just north of Detroit, Rich witnessed performances from some of the early pioneers of techno. Shortly after immersing himself in the underground warehouse scene in Detroit, he became an active DJ himself. The next decade included such highlights as: being a resident DJ for Detroit’s legendary production company, Paxahau, playing gigs at: the Detroit Electronic Music Festival (2005 and 2008), Space – Ibiza, Weekend Club – Berlin, and all across the U.S. Rich even had an impromptu tag session with one of his musical heroes of the time, Richie Hawtin, in 2005. - In late 2008, Rich moved to San Francisco to thwart the cold and live in one of the most diverse and beautiful cities in America. Since then, his performances in the Bay Area underground have caused quite the stir, resulting in a residency with promotions powerhouse As You Like It (AYLI) and a steadily increasing demand for performances. In 2011 he played alongside a wealth of artists, including Tiger and Woods, Deniz Kurtel, Iron Curtis, Matthias Tanzmann, Benoit & Sergio, Dave Aju, Mike Huckaby, Nicolas Jaar, and Lee Curtiss. To say Rich Korach’s sound is an instant classic is understood to those who’ve become converts to his shows. His is an insatiable appetite for the unexpected, which makes watching his next move upward and onward such a joy. - Recorded using Traktor Scratch Pro with vinyl control and a KONTROL X1 for effects/looping.

Plan B Recordings, Sound Black Recordings, and Bu-Mako Recordings present SUPREME SCYENCE...a gathering of forces between three DJs, three producers, three label owners, and three FRIENDS. This will be Lady B's DEBUT visit to NYC!!!! Come out and show your love! ===================================== ====================================== LADY BLACKTRONIKA, aka., "The First Lady of Beatdown" ====================================== ====================================== http://www.residentadvisor.net/dj/ladyblacktronika http://www.discogs.com/artist/lady+blacktronika%2c+the Real name / Akua Marcelle Adaeze Grant Moniker(s) / The Lady Blacktronika, Lady B In 1997 she hooked up with dj friend Mattski who gave her first taste of music production doing vocals on numerous unreleased house tracks with him. Frustrated with "the boys not letting [her] play with their toys" she began trying her hand at house music and techno production in 2006, producing Beatdown tracks inspired by such Detroit greats as Theo Parrish, Moodymann, and Norma Jean Bell. In early '07 Mike Huckaby discovered her on Myspace. He introduced her to a global audience on a Detroit radio broadcast. She released her first single shortly there after on Deep Explorer in September of '07. She infuses experiences from her past in gritty street life while bringing a woman's sensitivity and emotion to the Beatdown genre and Chicago influenced House music. LADY B has been featured numerous times on Resident Advisor, scoring high marks for her soulful house production that is second to none. We are happy to have Miss Lady Blacktronika come out and play a Pre-Pride set alongside our crew and friends on Thursday the 30th.
