With a new EP out on his own Brooklyn based Onysia label featuring tracks from himself, Rick Wade & Jeremy Sylvester, we got the bossman in to showcase what he and the label is about! "The mix is an Onysia label spotlight, with a lot of forthcoming / unreleased material and a lot of my own productions. I've been wanting to do this for quite a while, so already had some concept / idea of how to approach it... At first it felt like this whole new challenge making a mix from a fixed, relatively small pool of tracks but then realized this is music which does fit together very well and does possess a particular aesthetic, and the process just flowed. It really does represent the Onysia sound, which I've worked very hard to curate and ensure a certain cohesion even as the scope of the label grows. The mix weaves in and out of more contemplative moments and clubbier sounds, which is how I like to experience music on the dancefloor, but it's also very tailored for home listening. It's always funny how you know a track so well, have been playing it for years, maybe you've even made it yourself. But you get a new perspective mixing it with other tracks, and depending on how it's presented within the context of a set. It's great to feel refreshed and finally share a label showcase mix !" @onysia

Detroit might be synonymous with techno, but it also has a rich house tradition. And Rick Wade—FKA Big Daddy Rick—is one of Detroit house's key players. Along with the likes of Keith Worthy, Theo Parrish and the late Mike Huckaby (who Wade had a lifelong friendship and friendly rivalry with), he created a hybrid sound that is both techno and house, effortlessly soulful, sculpted and glowing—and Midwest to the core. As Tajh Morris said in a retrospective review of one of his classic records, "growing up in Buchanan, Michigan, meant that Wade was much closer to Chicago than he was to Detroit." Many of Wade's best records were released on Harmonie Park, his era-defining label that also featured plenty of work from Huckaby. Those EPs still sound fresh and timeless today, qualities that extend to Wade's RA Podcast, which features 90 minutes of smooth-as-butter house old and new. Over the years he's kept the flame burning for the smouldering sounds of Detroit house, working in sounds from younger producers like Folamour along the way. Enjoy listening to a master at work. @rick-wade Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/923

Ok friends of the night, the second year in a row in an incredibly difficult and seemingly extremely unstable time is very soon coming to an end. And thus also one in which nightlife seems to be emotionally lost to us. So today, more than ever, it is important to hold on to every little spark of culture. After a short euphoria in the last few weeks when some clubs started to reopen their doors, they now have to close again, which doesn't make the situation any better. That's why I'm personally glad that so many are continuing on their way and tirelessly keeping the roots and the shoots of our musical culture alive, and I'm personally grateful to everyone for that. Only together can we continue to shape the future musically. And since we're on the subject of culture, let's move on to today's guest, although there are actually two of them again. On the one hand, Andy Vaz, whose unbelievably fantastic and deep sound forms the basis of today's guest DJ set, is supported by Andreas Pasternack, who also enhances the whole thing in a great way with his saxophone. For me, Andy is one of the great music makers in Germany. Now living in Cologne, he started his musical career in the nineties from Düsseldorf. Since '98 he has been personally responsible for several labels and all of them are characterised by deep and minimal techno and house sound. Starting with "Background Records" which released 50 releases between 98 and 2006, featuring a wide variety of great artists, including Akufen, Sutekh, Jan Jelinek, Terrence Dixon and many more. In '99 he founded the sub-label "A Touch of Class", which was known for deep house. From 2000 to 2002 came the short-lived sub-label "Deep Night Essentials" which was known more for minimal techno. And since 2007 he has been running "Yore Records" together with "Alessandro Vaccaro", which is still active today and focuses more on house music by artists such as Rick Wade, Chez Damier, Patrice Scott or Alton Miller. Since 2001 he has already toured 7 times in Japan and performed for the Goethe Institute in numerous Indian cities. Andreas Pasternack is a jazz musician, entertainer, singer and composer. He has performed in Poland, Belgium, Japan and the USA. He creates his own weekly radio show on NDR 1 Radio MV. And so I feel really honoured that he is giving this ESOA podcast edition with Andy Vaz a cultural first class upgrade. Ok, so I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Friends, this is ESOA Podcast 043 by Andy Vaz b2b Andreas Pasternack. Enjoy listening to this edition. Thank you for your tireless interest on the ESOA Podcast format. This week's episode is hosted by KEENE, duo composed by the brothers Lloyd and Kevin Keene, whose sound is clearly fresh, expressive and seductive, mainly influenced by taking elements from Afro, Brazilian Funk, Disco, House and Techno genres. For the past years they have been exploring their Afro-Caribbean heritage and early age influences with the intention of delivering something new into the contemporary realm, thus extending that same essence and spirit into the future. That unique brotherly complicity is poured into what they do, with their combined musical and technical talents eliminating their possible weaknesses. Both are perfectionists that have found their personal way of making music, a process that is organic as it is electronic, and to understand, you just have to see the dancing throng while they DJ. Alongside managing Late Night Music's roster of shows in Panama, KEENE is based in Berlin for the most part of the year where they joined the Watergate family in 2018. They also run a Berlin based label called Cacao Records, with releases that include talents like Till Von Sein, Emmanuel Jal, Anja Schneider, Floyd Lavine, David Mayer, Cee ElAssaad , Boddhi Satva, Re.you and Rick Wade to mention a few. This year they kicked off with a new series of events by the name of Cacao City. As broadcast August 19, 2021 with extra late night content for you podcast munchers. To start the show, we remember an iconic television program which debuted on this date in 1972. After that, there was a ton of new funk & soul to get through with new joints from The Bamboos, Neal Francis, and Jordan Rakei amongst other luminaries. With no less than two dozens of releases in the last 5 years, Hugo LX keeps on cruising in a constantly expanding, ever organic, yet electronic musical spectrum. His recent outputs - A pair of EPs with NY revered music master DJ Spinna on the prestigious NDATL imprint, a couple of singles for People of Earth and MCDE Recordings, and numerous remixes for legends such as Satoshi Tomiie, Rick Wade or Karizma - got him a special place in the current electronic soundscape. Closely associated to the Japanese dance music scene, he has been curating the Japan Connection Festival in Paris, alongside Kuniyuki Takahashi, while he also continues working on his hip-hop and ambient catalogue. He is currently completing a brand new album blending all these genres to be released later in 2021.
Do similarities in the Old Testament with other ancient Near Eastern literature prove that it is all the same kind of thing? Rick Wade shows why it's not.

As broadcast August 28, 2020. We welcome a rising indie dance star in Ann Streichman to the show, whose latest singles have really been turning heads here in our stimuli-starved year of 2020. She rocked the playlist for the 2nd hour and talked about some of her favorite tunes, the prevalence of great dance music on both sides of what divides Israel & Palestine, and how lovely small talk is in American and especially New York culture. Great playlist and a lovely conversation, we were so happy to have welcomed her to our corner of the world tonight.#feelthegravityTracklisting:Part I & II (00:00)Michael Jackson – Don't Stop Til You Get EnoughDimitri from Paris feat Aeroplane & Leela D – Can't Get Enough (Yuksek remix)Gwen McCrae – All This Love That I'm Givin'Horse Meat Disco feat Kathy Sledge – Jump Into The NightMuriel Fowler feat Ann Streichman, Omri Anghel & Darrell Martin – I Like (Ann's House Remix)Ann Streichman – The Flow (Terry Grant 12” remix)Ronnie Laws – Tidal WaveBoz Scaggs – LowdownOmri Anghel – Feel RightChi-Lites – My First Mistake (Anthony Mansfield edit)Rick Wade & Ian Urbina – Maiden's Tale RAS – Zman Halal Part III & IV (62:31)Ann Streichman – Summer LoveSatin Jackets feat Panama – AutomaticFabich & Jafunk feat FHAT – Back To LifeVulfpeck feat Antwuan Stanley – 3 on EShalamar – A Night To RememberAnn Streichman – The NightEvelyn Champagne King – Love Come DownVictoria Monet, Khalid & SG Lewis – ExperienceDisclosure – Expressing What MattersLove Regenerator feat Steve Lacy – Live Without Your Love

You probably don't hear about Rick Wade as often as big-name Detroit house colleagues like Theo Parrish, Moodymann, or Kyle Hall, but that doesn't mean he isn't a legend in his own right. Consistently and almost obsessively, Big Daddy Rick has been dropping track after track of effortless deep house since the mid-90s. Sewn together with the perfect amount of kick, subtle oomph, and sweet, floating melody, they're the kind of tunes you simply never want to end; if you're anything like us, you'll drag back them to the start before they do. Right in time for Movement Detroit this weekend, Wade's prepared the second installment of our new THUMP Mix series, and it's soaked with his usual brand of charming deep house, with a little bit of funk mixed in.
