Auburn Tigers head coach Alex Golesh joins The Next Round for a wide-ranging conversation covering everything from celebrity moments at a charity golf event to the new reality of building a winning college football program. Golesh talks about being starstruck meeting John Daly and Bo Jackson, his relationship with country music star Riley Green, and how those connections can help Auburn Football in the modern NIL era. The conversation also dives deep into the future of college football spring practice, including why Golesh still supports the current 15-practice model — unless the transfer portal changes the rules. He also explains why spring games matter for young players, what coaches learn from scrimmages, and how to evaluate Byrum Brown after an up-and-down performance. Plus, Golesh opens up about the constant fundraising demands of modern college football, the true cost of roster retention, and why his goal at Auburn is not just to compete — it is to win a national championship. Can Alex Golesh bring a fun, winning brand of football back to Auburn? #AlexGolesh, #AuburnFootball, #AuburnTigers, #SECfootball, #CollegeFootball, #NIL, #ByrumBrown, #TheNextRound, #TransferPortal, #RileyGreen SUBSCRIBE: @NextRoundLive - / @nextroundlive FOLLOW TNR ON SPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/show/7zlofzLZht7dYxjNcBNpWN FOLLOW TNR ON APPLE PODCASTS: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-next-round/id1797862560 WEBSITE: https://nextroundlive.com/ MOBILE APP: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/the-next-round/id1580807480 SHOP THE NEXT ROUND STORE: https://nextround.store/ Like TNR on Facebook: / nextroundlive Follow TNR on Twitter: / nextroundlive Follow TNR on Instagram: / nextroundlive Follow everyone from the show on Twitter: Jim Dunaway: / jimdunaway Ryan Brown: / ryanbrownlive Lance Taylor: / thelancetaylor Scott Forester: / scottforestertv Tyler Johns: /TylerJohnsTNR Sponsor the show: sales@nextroundlive.com Learn more about your ad choices. Hello Friends and 92%ers, welcome to another episode of New Heights brought to you by AT&T! Today, we find out if Travis is too big for the moon, why Jason's new dog has a few names, and what the guys will be up to next week at The Masters. We've also got two great conversations with golf legends, Jim Nantz and John Daly. We find out how Nantz came up with his signature “hello, friends,” why he thought Travis was going to get him in trouble for insubordination, and hear some incredible stories on his decades-long broadcasting career. Later, we grip it and rip it with John Daly. John tells us why The Masters stands out amongst the majors, how his philosophy on life has remained unchanged, why his son won't take his golfing advice, and why he's a sneaky good football player. Finally, the guys reveal “what side of TikTok they're on” and we reveal the final standing of the much debated REESE'S x March Madness Bracket Challenge. Todd Graves - Graves Golf On Understanding Your Value: "Your customer is going to feed on your clarity of what you have to offer. And without clarity, you're just going to be a commodity." Some things just go hand in hand with business. Things like marketing, closing a deal over a beer, meeting for coffee and, of course, golfing. It seems that golf is a sport that allows you to chat on a more casual level with vendors and clients to get deals done and have a good excuse to be out of the office on a beautiful day. But this can be challenging, especially if you don't golf well. Todd Graves grew up with golf and learned the single plane swing from the best in the business, Moe Norman. Using Moe's unique swing that works well, along with a 5 step training process, Todd has built a business to help golfers become better golfers and non-golfers become golfers that don't hurt their back. He has systematized the golf swing to the point of making the game fun for entrepreneurs. With Graves Golf, Todd has built a business around helping golfers get better. His process has value for businesses of all types, helping you understand the reason behind the rule of 'Systematize Everything'. Listen as Todd explains his approach to training golfers and how he built his business around one guys process that went against the norm. Enjoy! John Daly was the longest striker of the golf ball on the, on the Tour at the time. And he was driving the ball, I think 288 yards, 289 yards. Something was the, he was the longest. And the Tour average driving distance was around 265. Today it's 30 yards greater than that. So now. Oh yeah, yeah. Todd Graves [00:00:29]: So now the average driving distance is in the 295 range and the longest drivers out there in the 32330 range and sometimes longer. James Kademan [00:00:42]: You have found Authentic Business Adventures, the business program that brings you the struggle stories and triumph and successes of business owners across the land. Downloadable audio episodes can be found in the podcast link found at https://drawincustomers.com We are locally underwritten by the Bank of Sun Prairie Calls On Call, Extraordinary Answering Service, The bold business book as well as Live Switch. Today we're welcoming slash, preparing to learn from Todd Graves of Graves Golf. And Todd, I'm excited. We are now entering what, at least in my world in the Midwest, is golf weather. So let's talk golf today. Todd Graves [00:01:19]: Well, yeah, the Masters, you know, coming next week. So really golf, golf season across the country and probably across the world really kicks off for us around Masters. We always gear up for this time of year. You know, nothing's more exciting than the Masters tournament. So that's a, it's a big week next week. So we're excited about what's happening. You know, it's been a, been kind of an early, interesting season this year because the weather seems to be, it's, it's always off and on, but it's, you know, I own a golf course here in Edmond, Oklahoma, and the, the grass came out early this year, which I don't know if that's always a good thing. But, but, but we're, yeah, we got some nice, nice playing conditions and we're ready to go. Todd Graves [00:01:58]: You know, golf's golf kicks off for us and we're ready to get busy this year. James Kademan [00:02:02]: Nice. Yeah, I'm in Wisconsin and we always joke that we have six springs. Todd Graves [00:02:06]: Yeah. James Kademan [00:02:07]: Last a day or two at a time. So I know that the course has been open and they've been snowed on and all that jazz. But at any rate, let's, let's talk about how you got started because it's been a while you've been in this game for quite a bit, it sounds like. Todd Graves [00:02:21]: Yeah. Yeah. You know, I'm not sure, you know, in business, being an entrepreneur, I'm not sure that you ever really know what you're doing at first. You know, you get into the game because you, you have an idea or you have something unique that you want to offer the world and help people with. And I think that's kind of what I stumbled into. I, you know, I, I played professional golf. I played in college, and I played professional golf, and, you know, I aspired to be a player, and I played for a while on the, on the tours around the world, and, and I just, you know, I kind of fell into. I saw a problem. Todd Graves [00:02:53]: I saw a problem in the golf world from, from a golf learning teaching methodology standpoint because I struggled, you know, I struggled to learn the game. I struggled to become better at playing it, even though I was a good player. I, I, you know, I came from a background of, of educators. My parents were both. My dad was a PhD in microbiology, taught at the medical school. My mother owned civil learning centers here in Oklahoma City. She was an entrepreneur herself. So, you know, I came from this background of always questioning how things worked. Todd Graves [00:03:23]: And, and I, I would consider myself relatively smart. I don't think I'm the most intelligent tool in the, you know, the smartest guy in the world. But, but I always, you know, I'm, I'm inquisitive. I always was curious about things and, and as I tried to approach the game of golf and get better at it, there was a lot of, A lot of dogma in, in the golf instruction world. And there was. There was really no standardized teaching methods. There was, and it just didn't seem simple to me. So the more I tried to improve, the more trouble I saw with the industry that teaches the game of golf. Todd Graves [00:03:54]: Matter of fact, to give you an example, the PGA teaching manual, the manual that they teach from today, if you go into a pro shop and you want to learn from a PGA pro, that teaching manual that they operate from and they, and they use has not been updated since 1990. So, so you would think that, you know, with the technology today and with, with the way the game works and with all the, I mean, look at, look at the industry. Look at your world. You know, we got AI. We got so much, we got so much information out there and the ability to do things we could never do before, and you got this antiquated way they teach the game of golf. Now, I'm not saying that everything in that manual is bad and wrong. I'm just saying that there's so much more that we can, we can offer and become better at what we do. And, and that's, that's part of an entrepreneur's job is to, so I look at that. Todd Graves [00:04:41]: That was part of it. And there was, you know, everybody's teaching a different method. So I just, I said, look, there's, there's something wrong with, with the game of golf. It's how it's being taught and it's what's being taught. And I've been, I, I built a business around that and, and so I kind of stumbled into it just because I saw a big need and a problem. You know, that's what we do as entrepreneurs. We find needs, we find problems, we try to solve those things as best we can. You know, that's fair. James Kademan [00:05:03]: That's totally true. Tell me a story, because I have to admit ignorance here I am just getting into golf, like just getting into golf. So I have played golf. Not well. We play best ball and out of 18 holes, we're probably using mine two or three times at best. Todd Graves [00:05:19]: Yeah. James Kademan [00:05:19]: And I'm going to call that pure luck. Nothing. Todd Graves [00:05:22]: Yeah. James Kademan [00:05:23]: So at any rate, tell me a story about, let's just say a typical drive. A typical drive in 1990 versus a typical drive now with the skills and the tools and all that kind of stuff. Is it. When I say a typical drive, I guess a good drive, not my drive. A good drive where it goes straight, where you intended to go. Is it farther than what it was? Todd Graves [00:05:44]: Well, here's what's interesting about it. You know, when you, when you look at the way the game has advanced and I'll just give you some, some data. So just from in the late 80s, early 90s, John Daly led the Tour driving distance. John Daly was the longest striker of the golf ball on the, on the Tour at the time. And he was driving the ball, I think 288 yards to an 89 yards. Something was the, was he was the longest and the tour average driving distance was around 265. Today it's 30 yards greater than that. So 10%. Todd Graves [00:06:15]: Oh, yeah, yeah. So, so now the, the average driving distance is in the 295 range and the, the longest drivers out there are in the 32330 range. So. And sometimes longer so that, you know, you can, you can attribute that to probably, we call it the tiger effect. In the game. You can, you know, better athletes,

We're back with Limo Joe, the man stars call when they land in Northwest Arkansas, for a raw, funny, and surprisingly tender tour through bus bays, back roads, and packed clubhouses. From the first time he piloted John Daly's bus, ending in a heart-stopping crunch in an Ohio parking lot, to threading through New York City's low bridges with fans swarming at gas stations, Joe shows how fast glamour turns into logistics, and how quick thinking keeps everyone safe. What makes this ride special is the relationship at the center of it. Joe's stories reveal John Daly as more than a legend with a monster drive: a dad who organizes trips around LJ's schedule, a people's champion who won't leave until the last photo is taken, and a generous friend who helps turn a signed flag into $5,000 for a children's auction. We talk about the art of setting boundaries without killing the vibe, the split-second choices a driver makes when the line forms at dinner, and why discretion beats any VIP pass. You'll hear how small markets like Bentonville build big reputations through word-of-mouth, how a steady voice can calm a chaotic night, and why authenticity, on the course and in the car, beats polish every time.If you're curious about sports culture, country music runs to Nashville, or the hidden craft behind luxury transportation, this is your map. We cover road safety for oversized rigs, reading crowds on the fly, and the ethics of having A-list contacts in your phone without turning relationships into currency. Come for the wild stories, stay for the playbook on trust, loyalty, and service that keeps the calls coming. Enjoy the conversation, share it with a friend who loves golf or great road tales, and tap follow, then leave a quick review telling us the wildest travel moment you've ever had.

Power often rides in the backseat, and Joe Washington has spent years at the wheel. We kick off season three with the trusted driver behind Northwest Arkansas's most intriguing routes, funded early by Don Tyson, introduced to Alice Walton as “my friend Joe,” and frequently answering calls that start with “President for Don Tyson.” Joe shares how a simple code, safety first, discretion always, turned an ordinary service into a career that spans yachts in Italy, private airport pickups, and late-night runs for A-list guests. We unpack the origin of NWA Transportation, the moment Don and attorney Kenneth Morton helped Joe get started, and the everyday discipline that made the relationship last for more than a decade. Joe takes us inside bucket-list drives down Don Tyson Parkway and across Walmart campus, then into surreal phone moments with Clinton, BB King, and other legends. He explains why he's not “ride share,” how bookings from coastal agencies land in his inbox, and how a full-evening model beats point A to B when clients value privacy, flexibility, and calm. The conversation stretches into culture and craft, why a bottle of Creed becomes a calling card, how a sleek black Escalade branded with Team Direct and the emerging Platform identity turns heads without shouting, and what it takes to manage luxury logistics without breaking the trust that earns them. Golf fans will lean in at stories of John Daly, a polite pass on Augusta for its no-cart rule, and a respectful glimpse of Michael Jordan's high-stakes club life. It's a story about Bentonville's gravity, Walmart's orbit, and the quiet professionals who keep both moving. If you love behind-the-scenes business, service excellence, and the human side of power, you'll feel right at home. Subscribe, share with a friend who geeks out on logistics and leadership, and leave a review to tell us which story surprised you most.Come back next week for more stories from Joe in part 2!

“Send Coach John a message”I came across something from Coach AJ - Mental Fitness (@coachajkings) where he was responding to (@readswithravi) and it all connected with Coach John Wooden. Coach AJ's thoughts were this - “Successful people take ownership of their actions, attitude, and effort. John Wooden said, "Don't whine. Don't complain. Don't make excuses." "Get out there and whatever you're doing, do it to the best of your ability." You can't control everything - But you can control how you show up.” All of these things got me so fired up when I read them. I know I need to be WAY better in showing up in every part of my life!! But then, I've shown up decently over the years in my life. My younger self … little 10 year old John Daly is proud of me in so many ways. He's been along for this ride for a long time!! I need to keep it up because I know it's worth it!! You can apply this to what you got going on! Thanks for listening. While telling my Italian friends about my good friend Ollie from Glasgow I said "he is a good bloke". Bloke? what nationality is that? No it is not a nationality! So what is my friend Ollie? Bloke B-L-O-K-E is an extremely common term denoting a man. It is a noun used in reference to an ordinary man, with a similar meaning to "average joe" in America. Bloke is a slang term for a common man found used in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The earliest known usage is from the early 19th century, when it was recorded as a London slang term. The word's origin is unknown, although many theories exist regarding its etymology… It has been claimed that the word's roots arise from the Hindi word loke L-O-K-E, meaning a man. In England bloke was originally found within the language of criminals meaning a man who was not a criminal and usually of high social standing. Criminals themselves would use the term to distinguish themselves from high class ‘blokes' for example:- "I stole the bloke's watch right off em."The earliest found written use of bloke was in 1829 in the court papers of the Old Bailey, The Central Criminal Court of England and Wales. During the trial of 17-year-old John Daly who was charged with housebreaking, where the owner of the house is referred to as a bloke. Nowadays in the UK bloke is viewed as an average man, however this understanding is slightly different in Australia. In Australia, a bloke is a staple masculine archetype closely associated with the country's identity and pride. The ideal "Aussie bloke" has been portrayed in important works of art and associated with famous Australian men throughout history. In Australia The phrase "He's a good bloke" is frequently used and it literally means "he's a good man".That's the end of our episode of the day so remember to tune in for our next episode so see what new slang we have in store for you! Golfer John Daly may be one of the most relatable sportspeople ever, having once said, “I don’t think I’ve ever stepped in the gym – they won’t let me smoke there.” Daly took the golfing world by storm, winning the 1991 PGA Tournament with his impossibly long drives. Off the course, Daly racked up marriages, scandals and suspensions far faster than he ever won tournaments. He's a first-round ballot entry into the Sports Bizarre Hall of Fame. Andy is joined by "The Boys" for this final Wednesday show of the 2025 PGA Tour season! Brendan is off at Pinehurst in protest of the RSM Classic, his least favorite PGA Tour event, so PJ and Joseph LaMagna step in to preview the fall swing finale. PGA Tour Comms put out an unhinged list of five "Players to Watch" for the RSM which prompts a guessing game to kick off the show. Andy then goes down the list of every winner of the event and wonders if this is the worst winner's list of any full-field PGA Tour event. Although he's not a "Player to Watch," U.S. Am winner Mason Howell is in the field and playing with Davis Love III for the first two rounds. The CME Group Tour Championship rounds out a big week of LPGA news. Every round of the 2026 season will be broadcast on live TV with more cameras and microphones on the course to help facilitate this. Andy issues an apology for misidentifying Brooke Matthews as the winner of the Lamborghini on Monday's episode and quizzes PJ and Joseph on whether they'd even want the car after an ace. 43 LIV golfers will tee it up at the PIF Saudi International for some coffee golf in the U.S., but they're all dwarfed by Sampson Zheng for the purposes of this podcast (and the soundboard). LIV's offseason is underway and the first PGA Tour defection is in the books with Victor Perez heading to the Cleeks. Martin Kaymer is ecstatic about this acquisition and gave some glowing quotes about how Perez will further elevate the Cleeks brand. The three pitch some other LIV hot stove transactions, including two offers for one of the brightest young golf stars in the world! In news, former LIV star Henrik Stenson paid his DPWT fines and will be back on the tour for 2025 in some capacity. Andy wonders if this is all a ploy to get a second chance at a Ryder Cup captaincy now that the Euro pipeline seems dry. The Augusta Hooters was demolished on Tuesday but PJ already has a plan for another interview with John Daly next year. Finally, there's some general sports chatter to round out this episode with notes on the Colts, LeBron James, and a takedown of WWE.
