Kuya has always been somewhat of a mysterious figure. We've been knowing about this man but our paths had yet to cross so when he told us he was ready to share his journey as a producer and artist from the days of The Happy Unfortuanate - the WCMA-nominated hip hop group he shared with Malcolm Jay - to a track he produced with Dumbfounded and Breezy Lovejoy a/k/a Anderson Paak on vocals, we were happy to let him do it in the lounge space. His Beats & Remixes series is available now on Bandcamp and you can get a sneak peek at the project he is currently working on via SoundCloud where he has shared a demo of The World Is A Ghetto.
Today we have the magnificent Eunice Chang on our show, talking everything from the best skateboard movies, why GenZ is buying more homes than millennials, getting crazy hangxiety, and going blonde. Plus, Jonnie and Steffie and Caroline give each other compliments and Jonnie tells us about his expensive Caribbean trip with Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak (lol…). We're diving into the legendary story of Eminem bridging the gap with Elton John by gifting him and his husband matching gold "rooster rings" on their wedding night., The Homie Helpline gets intense as Roger reveals his high-powered wife treats him like an employee, controlling his meals and banning beer after 15 years as a stay-at-home husband. We're also breaking down the viral clip of a kid in the Dominican Republic who trolled streamer IShowSpeed into thinking he had cancer, only for his mom to "blow the bag" by revealing it was just lice. Don't You Know I'm Local, so we are investigating why lice seems to be a "Hispanic thing" and reacting to rumors of Anderson .Paak getting cozy with Mariah Carey. Finally, we look at the "Studious Fools" breakdown on why deadbeat dads might actually be victims of "systemic poverty" instead of just being heartless. Whether it's "tripod" sizing or "mosquita muerta" family drama, the crew is keeping it a hundred on everything going viral in the streets! [Edited by @iamdyre

A tense political moment set the tone as Donald Trump sparked backlash after publicly insulting journalist Akayla Gardner when she questioned the ballooning cost of his White House ballroom project, which reports say has doubled from its original estimate. The exchange quickly went viral, reigniting criticism over Trump’s repeated attacks on journalists—particularly Black women—while raising new scrutiny over the use of public funds for the renovation. On the entertainment side, the show broke down reports that Jamie Foxx is expecting another child with his girlfriend Alyce Huckstepp, a development confirmed by multiple outlets and marking a major personal milestone following Foxx’s highly publicized health scare. Meanwhile, dating rumors are swirling again around Mariah Carey and Anderson .Paak after the pair were spotted holding hands on a movie date in Los Angeles, fueling speculation that their on‑again chemistry may be more than just collaborative. The episode also featured comedian Sheryl Underwood, who joined the RSMS crew fresh off her widely praised appearance at Netflix’s Roast of Kevin Hart, where she delivered one of the night’s standout sets and addressed the fine line between roast humor, grief, and resilience.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Send a textI am your host, Neo Griot, and this is Episode 272 of the Rational Black Thought Podcast. This week's title is “Living under my greatness / What don't kill me is motivation.” by Anderson Paak and the Vanguard. The full lyrics I want to reference are: “I spent years being called out my name-Living under my greatness-But what don't kill me is motivation. My faith is buried somewhere underneath the town (Until it's paid for)” There are seasons where your life feels like it's happening in the shadows: misunderstood, misnamed, mismeasured. You're still growing, but not in ways other people can see yet. That's “living under my greatness.” The work is real before the applause is real. And then there's the other half: “what don't kill me is motivation.” Not because pain is noble, but because endurance teaches structure. It forces you to get serious: about what you believe, what you tolerate, what you build, and what you will no longer explain. This is a clarity episode. If you came for lullabies, try religion. Anderson .Paak takes his shoes off for the first time as he and Rick get a little… high on music and a new friendship. The two discuss dating, Will Smith, and how wild the wild wild west can be. Bruno Mars is back with a new album called The Romantic, his first solo release since 2016's 24k Magic. At first listen, the lead single, “I Just Might,” sounds like an outtake from 2021's collaborative album with Anderson Paak, the Philly soul-inspired An Evening with Silk Sonic. Listen closer though and another element emerges: a fast-paced conga drum line. The rest of Mars's nine-track confection chases that Latin influence. This is not just another retread of 70s funk and soul. In fact, The Romantic makes the case that Mars is pop's great counter-programmer, finding styles of the past that no one else has yet mined. Charlie and Nate break down all the new territory covered by Mars, from Latin boleros to Cuban cha chas, Nuyorican boogaloo to a mariachi “My Way.” The results may not change your mind about Mars, but they might make you appreciate the finer points of what is sure to be an omnipresent new release. What does it mean to be an artist for the people? In this episode of Rising for Our Motherlands, we talk with muralists and cultural workers Cece Carpio and Chris “C” Gazaleh about making art in movement spaces — from the Philippines and Palestine to the murals that filled downtown Oakland after the George Floyd uprisings.Cece Carpio uses acrylic, ink, aerosol, and installations to tell stories of immigration, ancestry, resistance, and resilience. Her bold portraits blend folkloric forms with urban art techniques, honoring everyday people and their thriving presence. Cece has created and exhibited work across the world and currently serves as Galleries Manager for the San Francisco Arts Commission and Public Art Advisor for the City of Oakland.More: CeceCarpio.com | @CeceCarpioChris “C” Gazaleh is a San Francisco–born visual artist, musician, writer, organizer, and educator whose work uplifts Palestinian history, culture, and the struggle for freedom. Rooted in hip hop and graffiti, he developed his style early on and deepened his connection to his heritage while learning Arabic in Detroit. After returning home, he joined General Union of Palestine Students (GUPS) at San Francisco State University, helped create the Edward Said mural, and began painting murals throughout the community, working with youth to spread knowledge, love, and cultural pride.More: CGazaleh.com | @CGazalehTogether, we explore how art becomes a language for our families, nurtures collaboration, and uplifts community voices — and what it means to create under capitalist and imperialist systems.Special thanks to Women's Audio Mission and DJ Ari for hosting the recording of this episode.Featuring Music by Excentrik & Chris Gazaleh, Ruby Ibarra, Abe Batshon, Kimmortal, Public Enemy, Anderson Paak, & GingeeA huge thank you to Salma Taleb, Hesham Jarmakani, Francesca Juico, Chris Wanis, and Carmelo Ibanez for our beautiful theme music and to our co-conspirator & We Rise producer Cat Petru for weaving our voices and songs together.Podcast art created by nicole gervacio.
