Welcome to 2050—where we still don't have flying cars, but we're finally getting our hiring practices right. Host Ken is joined by the formidable Lisa Gable, former Presidential appointee, U.S. Ambassador, UN Delegate, and advisor to Fortune 500 companies. Lisa is here to shake up your future and maybe your present, too. With her wealth of experience at the highest levels of government and business, Lisa predicts a world where degrees collect dust and skills steal the show, where AI is the superhero women need to get back into the game, and where universities might want to start updating their résumés. They also dive headfirst into the messy stuff—workplace conflicts, mental health, and the quest for diverse leadership. Tune in if you're ready to trade in the status quo for something a little more exciting—like a workplace where passion trumps paychecks, and every generation can finally play nice. BONUS: Elevate your hiring game with our comprehensive playbook on skill-based hiring - a practical guide designed to help you modernize your strategies, tap into diverse talent, reduce hiring biases, and build teams ready to tackle today's challenges and tomorrow's disruptions. Diverse Leadership: The discussion highlights the importance of breaking down barriers to achieve true diversity in leadership roles. Intergenerational Collaboration: A focus on collaboration across generations is key to fostering a dynamic and inclusive workplace. Passion vs. Paychecks: Encouraging employees to follow their passion rather than chasing a paycheck is essential for long-term success and satisfaction. Minnesota is a week into the legislative session, but before it even started, some DFL lawmakers were calling to make Minnesota the 13th state with a sanctuary law, dubbed the North Star Act. The law would ban state and local law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration authorities. The DFL may have a trifecta, but they have just one more seat than Republicans in the state Senate, and it's looking like this bill does not have the support to pass. Multiple DFL lawmakers have said publicly they won't vote for the act, and legislative leaders are not prioritizing it this session. This comes as some Democrats at the national level are taking a harder stance on immigration leading up to the 2024 election. DFL Senator Grant Hauschild represents the Arrowhead region and joined MPR News host Cathy Wurzer to talk about why he's not supporting the North Star Act.

With the Christmas weekend behind us, I have one last gift for your stocking as I share all of my thoughts on the entire sports landscape. On deck: (3:21) We're down to the final two weeks of the NFL regular season. Week 16 didn't disappoint as they were teams trending up (i.e. Panthers, Jaguars, Packers) and some heading south (i.e. Titans, Dolphins, Commanders) as the above, among others, are jockeying for position to get into the postseason. I'll break down all that took place over the weekend and where we're at to date as the AFC & NFC playoff picture becomes clearer. (33:46) The NBA had their annual Christmas Day slate of five games, which didn't live up to the hype. Sixers-Knicks was competitive until the fourth quarter, before Philly took over and won. And what's this about James Harden possibly making a return to Houston at the end of the season? (CORRECTION: I made a mention of Tyrese Maxey returning soon to the Sixers lineup. I accidentally called him Tyrone. My apologies for the faux pas.) The Mavericks put up 51 third quarter points on LeBron & company as they take care of the Lakers. The Celtics pull away with a big win vs. the Bucks. Memphis was no match for Golden State as they try to become rivals with some trash talk. And Nikola Jokic shows why he's a two time, back to back MVP as he records another triple double in a win vs. the Suns. (41:50) On the ice, things have been super quiet. As in, no games have been played since late last week. I don't recall the NHL taking a few days off over the Christmas holiday in years past. Maybe the NBA & NFL had something to do with it. The two big recent developments have been Alexander Ovechkin surpassing Gordie Howe for number two all time on the career goal scoring list. And the Hurricanes have blown by the Devils in the Metropolitan Division as Carolina has won eight in a row, while New Jersey has dropped eight of their last 11. The Winter Classic is on deck next Monday as the Flyers visit Boston to play the Bruins in Fenway Park. (45:44) This Mets/Carlos Correa soap opera is starting to irritate me. The two parties are "working through" the medical issues that hung up the original deal between Correa and the Giants. Well, I have an excellent idea to solve this once and for all. Then you have former Cy Young Award winner, Trevor Bauer (remember him?) reinstated back into the MLB. Will the Dodgers release him? Or bring him back for his final year of his contract? There were a couple of minor signings that transpired. Craig Kimbrel signs a one year deal with Philadelphia. Former Mets OF Michael Conforto inks a two year deal with San Francisco. Same for relief pitcher, Taylor Rogers as he joins his twin brother Tyler in the bullpen on the Giants as well. (55:01) Stephan Bonnar, who was part of The Ultimate Fighter reality show which put the UFC on the map and grew the sport exponentially because of it, dies at the age of 45 a few days ago due to heart complications. How to Know if Your Deal is Going South Sooner than Later | Andee Harris - 1566

The Sales Evangelist

Sometimes the best way to close more deals isn't by adding new people to your pipeline (though that's always a good thing.) Instead, the best thing is to address the issues that make a deal fail before they fail. In today's episode of The Sales Evangelist, Donald is joined by the CEO of Challenger, Andee Harris, to get her take on failed deals and how to address those issues directly with our prospects.  Challenger is a sales training company: The Challenger Sale by Matthew Dixon and Brent Adamson explains many of the principles Challenger uses in their training. Early sellers might be timid, which usually leads to a failure to recognize when a deal isn't moving in the right direction. In Andee's experience, continuous feedback is a great way to course-correct throughout the sales process to tailor the experience and selling strategy to the specific prospect.  Passive selling isn't the best form of selling for either party - taking control of the purchase and helping the buyer buy the product is your job. Three ways to notify deals before they go south: Integrate an avenue for continuous feedback. If a buyer likes you as a sales rep, they'll want to share methods to improve their experience.  Realize that one size doesn't fit all. What works for one client might not work for another.  Constantly be learning. Be curious, and look to understand and be self-aware of your strengths and weaknesses.  Andee's final takeaway? Understand that we're in a complex selling environment. Multiple factors influence the selling process, but it isn't impossible to create wins and do phenomenally well. To get in touch with Andee, visit challengerinc.com or connect with Andee on LinkedIn. This episode is brought to you in part by LinkedIn Sales Navigator.
