You know the saying, “opposites attract?” Well, those words hold true for me and my next guest, Sam Christensen, because he’s about as optimistic as they come, but like, in a good way, I promise! On today’s episode we chat about a few of Sam’s most notable life experiences, from sneaking out of the house in high school to landing a super cool print-making internship in college, and it's safe to say that we could all afford to take a page out Sam's book. Jay Hunter (SUPERSTORE, POD WEEN SATAN) once again gets cocky with us as he shares his unhealthy infatuation with CULT LEADERS, from Shoko Asahara to Charles Manson to sweet sweet papa L. Ron Hubbard (the list goes on). Sasha (me, it's me writing these words) describes her personal experience being a member of various cults and shares why the late acting teacher's Sam Christensen's class has never turned into a cult, despite some of his followers' wishes. Is Upright Citizens Brigade theater a cult? What about Scientology (spoiler alert: f**k yeah)? And who's Jay's "favorite" cult leader? Listen to find out. Check out Jay's podcast Pod Ween Satan. Do you know how people perceive you? Do you care? Mike and Larry discuss finding your "authenticity" with Ken Cortland, master class teacher of the Sam Christensen process. Originally used by actors to help them be their best selves, the classes are now taught around the world to executives, professionals, and everyday people. Find out what you're missing! Funny man Trevor Rotenberg is known for being three things: a handsome Canadian man, our dear friend, and undeniably, a nice guy. In this loosely structured episode, we discuss 50 shades of Trevor, plus exchange cringe stories from our adolescence. Then Sasha shares her memories of the late image consultant and acting teacher Sam Christensen. Finally, we reveal whether any of us has nudes circulating out there (spoiler alert: at least one of us does). At the end, we recommend the documentary AMERICAN FACTORY, Hulu's comedy RAMY, Never Say Die burgers and Hoopla digital platform. Sam Christensen had a gift for helping people find the intersection of how they see themselves and how others see them. By sharing this gift, he improved the quality of my life and the lives of many others. Sam passed away earlier this month. To honor Sam and remind myself of some of the many lessons I learned from him, I will play cuts from our Oct 1, 2015 interview. I will add my thoughts to Sam’s. Thousands of people had sought out the workshops of the groundbreaking process Sam created. Movie-stars, CEO’s, political candidates and leaders, authors, news anchors, journalists and countless working performers credit his innovative system with their increased self-confidence, personal ease and career growth. Listen in and see why.
With each Life Lab Notes episode, we strive to illustrate how much we humans share, but this episode is perhaps just a bit more personal and universal. You may never have heard of Sam Christensen, but this episode is still for you. Thanks to Phil Ward for the music and engineering. Visit our website for more info about this episode, and a photo of the sticky note I'm keeping.

Today, at “Sam Christensen Studios” in North Hollywood, California, and in classes around the World, he teaches “The Sam Christensen Process” to thousands of actors, artists, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and CEOs. What would you say? Since taking the class in 2011, I’ve been able to easily and confidently say, “I’m an onion ring in a bag of fries.” Can’t get more clearer than that! -Loren 5 Things That Changed Your Life is a 12-episode multi-season podcast where guests share 5 stories, events, or experiences that had an impact on their lives.
