Tracer Finn started his racing career in 1975 with his older brother Mike. His first assigned number was #480. Finn and his brother would race on a regular basis at Desert Surf and Williams Raceway back in the day. He says he wasn't very good when he started. His first sponsor was his dad. His first idol was a racer by the name of Sam Meek. Finn started lighting up the tracks around Nevada. At one point he was ranked #2 rider in the nation for the now defunct NBA. At the same time he was ranked #1 in Nevada in 16 and over expert. With this kind of stature his good friend Mike Miranda put in a good word for him to get on the famous CW racing team. He was always known for his jumping skills. Finn had many "Hot Shot" features in BMX Action. Finn turned pro in 1983 but was already working in show business which is the family business as a lighting expert. For a while he promoted and ran mountain bike races, Police athletic league events, and even owned a bike shop. For four years Finn was the team manager for specialized. He says working with riders during the X Games gave him a chance to live his childhood all over again. Today Finn continues to work in show business. Plus, he's in the National BMX Hall of Fame. Sam Meek is the Co-Founder and CEO of Sandboxx. Growing up in Sun Valley, ID, Sam learned to ski and spent countless hours outdoors. He also grew up in a family of Marines. Sam almost always knew he too would become a Marine. So, when the Towers fell on 9-11, he enlisted and headed off to Pariss Island. Sam had two deployments, the second to Fallujah, where a non-combat injury and recovery brought him back to the States. Sam left the Marine Corps after five years. While trying to determine his next step, Sam started caddying. A golf course conversation led to an interview and a job on Wall Street working for a hedge fund…sometimes showing up makes all the difference. That happenstance meeting really started Sam on the path to Sandboxx – it's funny how our lives make so much more sense in hindsight. The Spotlight We asked Sam to step into The Spotlight on the VeteranCrowd Network. Join us as Sam shares the story of the foundation of the company. He shares the story of his unique founding partner, Ray Louis “E-Tool” Smith, MG - USMC Retired. Sam describes how Sandboxx found that one unique thing that makes a company different. BONUS for subs! A panel of three Marine Veterans making a difference in their new respective fields. Panel was conducted at the Modern Day Marine Expo and was presented by the Military Times.
Growing up on the slopes of Sun Valley, Idaho, Sam Meek was in high school when 9/11 hit. He always thought he would be a Marine, and decided that was the time. The fact that he loved his fellow Marines was part of the motivation for starting Sandboxx, to help them stay connected with their families. This means communication at tough times such as boot camp and also at special times in their service, such as graduation, medal ceremonies and the like. He was always entrepreneurial, even starting a Hacky-Sack company at age 13. But a chance encounter with a hedge fund principal launched him into the business world.
