Dr. Simkovich taught in a Catholic University and now is at JPS and YU. She continues her interfaith dialogue throughout. But here we spoke, among other things, about the concept of diaspora and exile - what is a Judean, a Judahite, and an Israelite. These are terms that are often thrown around interchangeably, but understanding the meaning and etymology of each helps us understand the spatial and temporal elements of being Jewish, of Judean roots, and in the context of today.  Letters from Home: The Creation of Diaspora in Jewish Antiquity (Eisenbrauns, 2024) is an analysis of letters from Jewish Antiquity and spans the Persian and Babylonian Empires in space and time and touches upon the Greek and Roman Empires. Is diaspora curse? If a main prohibition was for Israelites to return to Egypt, how is one of the most ancient Jewish communities found in Egypt? How and why did they get there? Was it a negative or positive evolution of the exile?  As the conversation evolved Dr. Simkovich let out a call for suggested readings on the term and concept of "golah" as opposed to "galut", diaspora and exile. Erinn Dearth and Dan Beckmann created Letters From Home in the style of USO dances with a witty, modern edge. Their performances are funny and heartfelt and they share stories from their recently completed “Letters From Home 50 States Tour.” They traveled to every state of the country focusing on what unites us as a country, rather than what divides us. “It kind of makes people think and appreciate the freedoms they've been given,” Dan said. “The family of veterans often get teary-eyed and moved. Which we love, because that's why we're doing it. It's very rewarding.”Discover how Erinn and Dan embrace the power of positive thinking, attitude and effort as they sing and dance their way into the hearts of heros. Also on Speaking of Travel, find out how to really build bridges and develop partnership frameworks with Mark Collins, Partnerships Manager for RomanticAsheville.com. Mark shares some tips on how to build a successful travel partner network. And, as passenger numbers climb in air travel, airports are moving forward with expansions. At the Asheville Regional Airport, they are leading the way improving overall efficiency and boosting safety. With all of this comes growth and the airport is expanding to meet the rising demand. Tina Kinsey from the Asheville Regional Airport shares updates on what you will need to know when traveling to and from the airport. Only on Speaking of Travel Thanks for listening to Speaking of Travel! Can you imagine at age 19, after a boating accident, waking up from surgery to the doctors telling you that you will never walk again? This is the beginning of Joe Delagrave's deep transformation.   His journey to forgiveness and faith is one you will never forget. He brings us into his happy but imperfect childhood, his WSU football days, his boating accident,  a life-changing prison visit, and ultimately his inner heart working,  that gave him the drive of an Olympian. He is a keynote speaker, Team USA Paralympic Wheelchair Rigby Player, and well loved child of God. Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. With eight children ranging from teenagers to parents themselves, Meg is no stranger to the bittersweet and beautiful transitions through motherhood. Throughout her entire journey, she has tried to not lose sight of the fact that God gave her these children to prepare them for adulthood, which means eventually they leave (which is a good thing!). She discusses the transitions that range from setting all of the rules and providing everything for your children, all while teaching them to set boundaries and help them set up their own rules as they enter adulthood. The biggest thing she's learned however in her entire motherhood path is that while her job as a mom is important, her most important job is being a child of God.

Loved for 100 years in 20.  Not everyone gets to experience a love like this. Ami did. As a traveling teen musician, she met the love of her life.  They start their marriage in love and soon after they start their family. While serving the Lord as a family, preparing land for a new ministry, her husband Mike inhales some debris.  Through a series of misdiagnosis and careless medical practice, Mike passes away.  Ami brings us into that season of her life, the love, the pain and the beyond.  Her name means 'beloved little follower of the Lord, and as her story unfolds, you will see her uncommon faith, from just a little girl, to this present day.  She is resilient, and has an affinity for daisies, which reminds her of the love of her husband, Mike Shroyer, who loved her for 100 years in 20.Heb. 12:1-"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us."------------------------------------------------Topics Shared: Beloved little follower of the LordUncommon faithCreative child whose wings were clipped  Lived in 21 different houses before 21Jesus clubs and writing musicFriend-zoned Bill Gaither's nephew Skipped graduation to travel around the country singingSevered parental relationship made rightMeeting the love of her life"Miracle of Mercy" Mike's life songQuick & happy marriage Working at Andy Stanley's church, their Atlanta yearsStarting a family wholeness centerThe 5/11 Wholeness JourneyMike gets suddenly illThe Doctors fumble his careMedicinal toxicity and dehydration sets inOne last visitHorrible passingSupermanLoved for 100 years in 20Fields of daisiesName on the front of the buildingA voice for strong homes  Ami Quotes: "I always want purpose, not closure. Join your host, April D. Metzler, as she visits with Meg Glesener about her podcast show, "Letters from Home", and preparing your heart for home. What does "Home" really mean? What does it look like in life to prepare your heart for home? What are some ways that we can use to apply the wisdom found in the passages of scripture that Meg and April discuss in our day to day? For those of the listening audience who like to be ready with the Word, April and Meg will be visiting about 2 foundational scriptures. 2 Corinthians 3:3 is the scripture Meg holds to with her podcast show and John 14:2-3 is one of the primary scriptures she applies to her daily walk with God. These will be our primary focus. Each podcast episode is located on April's website as a blog post with the video version included, as well. See her link below along with Meg's to stay connected.
