RUNDOWN   Are Seattle sports are even fun anymore? Six hours “chewing my fingernails and losing hair.” Mitch and Scott argue about what “fun” in fandom really means, roast Matt Brash for his walk-filled chaos, and marvel at the weirdness of Seattle beating Tarik Skubal yet again. Mitch welcomes Brady Farkas (Refuse to Lose Podcast) and Joe Doyle (Over-Slot / Future Stars Series) for a fiery Mariners No-Table as Seattle heads to Detroit tied 1–1. They rave over Jorge Polanco's two-homer night off Cy Young favorite Tarik Skubal and the team's resilience, then dissect Dan Wilson's bullpen management in Game 1, Bryce Miller's usage, and the decision to start George Kirby. The group debates Matt Brash's shaky late-inning trust, Julio Rodriguez's base-running and clutch turnaround, and whether the Tigers or Mariners now hold the upper hand as the ALDS resumes. Mitch welcomes Brady Henderson (ESPN Seahawks Insider) and Jacson Bevens (Cigar Thoughts) for a heated Seahawks No-Table after Seattle's gut-wrenching 38–35 loss to Tampa Bay. The trio debates how Mike Macdonald's defense—ranked among the NFL's best through two weeks—got completely schemed apart by Baker Mayfield. Mitch rips the lack of pressure from Byron Murphy and Leonard Williams, the blown coverage across the secondary, and the failure to get a stop with the game on the line. All agree: Sam Darnold looked spectacular, throwing four touchdowns and confirming his franchise-QB credentials even in defeat. CBS analyst Rick Neuheisel joins Mitch after an emotional weekend that saw his son Jerry Neuheisel call plays for UCLA in the upset win over Penn State. Rick describes watching from the CBS studio as his phone exploded with messages, reliving the moment as both a broadcaster and a dad. He shares the behind-the-scenes timeline of Jerry being handed play-calling duties, his pride in how the Bruins responded, and the joy of seeing his family's work pay off. From there, the conversation turns to the broader college-football landscape — Penn State and Texas now facing uphill climbs to the playoff, Notre Dame's renewed path, the Huskies' comeback win in Maryland, Florida's bounce-back under Billy Napier, and previewing the week ahead with Oregon–Indiana on CBS.   GUESTS   Brady Farkas | Host, Refuse to Lose Podcast (Mariners on SI) Joe Doyle | MLB Draft & Mariners Analyst, Over-Slot Substack Brady Henderson | Seahawks Insider, ESPN Jacson Bevens | Writer, Cigar Thoughts Rick Neuheisel | CBS College Football Analyst, Former Head Coach & Rose Bowl Champion   TABLE OF CONTENTS   0:00 | From Fingernails to Fun Forest: Mitch and Hotshot Debate Whether Sports Are Still Fun After Six Brutal Hours of Seahawks and Mariners Angst 12:15 | BEAT THE BOYS - Register at MitchUnfiltered.com 15:46 | Mariners Split, Seahawks Stumble: Mitch Calls It “Inexcusable,” Hotshot Still Finds Hope in Detroit 32:01 | GUEST: Mariners No-Table; Polanco Powers Mariners Even, Wilson's Moves Debated as Series Shifts to Detroit 55:21 | GUEST: Seahawks No-Table; Seahawks Defense Collapses in 38–35 Shootout: MacDonald Takes the Blame, Darnold Shines in Defeat 1:20:50 | GUEST: Rick Neuheisel; A Proud Papa Moment — Rick Neuheisel on His Son's Play-Calling Debut and a Wild Weekend in College Football 1:51:20 | Other Stuff Segment: Michael Bennett defends Russell Wilson and says Richard Sherman's criticism is personal animosity, debate over whether Russ deserves the Hall of Fame, Mark Sanchez stabbed in Indianapolis parking dispute involving pepper spray, 49ers backup QB Mac Jones discovers a dead body outside his hotel before Thursday Night Football, Texas Rangers part ways with Bruce Bochy and promote Skip Schumaker, Jay Cutler released early from DUI jail after trying to pay off a fender-bender with $2,000, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's reported split includes a “no-cocaine bonus clause,” Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson gets early Oscar buzz for The Smashing Machine as MMA fighter Mark Kerr, Lionel Richie claims Michael Jackson was literally nicknamed “Smelly,” Mitch realizes the real-life fighter from The Smashing Machine went to Syracuse the same time he did. LightSpeed VT: https://www.lightspeedvt.com/ Dropping Bombs Podcast: https://www.droppingbombs.com/ What if losing $400K to a crooked partner, battling PTSD, and raising a special-needs son still wasn't enough to stop you from building an $8M empire? In this raw, unfiltered episode of Dropping Bombs, I sit down with Vincent “Vinnie” Biancamano—first-gen Italian, ex-firefighter, and founder of Hot Shot Hardscape & Pools—on how he went from his dad's basement and maxed-out cards to becoming one of the fastest-growing custom pool builders in Scottsdale and nationwide.   This isn't HGTV—it's the brutal truth about backyard resorts. Vinnie exposes why most pool contractors cut corners, why the cheapest bid usually becomes the most expensive mistake, and how six-inch-on-center steel cages, soil engineering, and waterproofing separate luxury builds from disasters. His message is simple: if you want bargain basics, call someone else—but if you want a backyard resort that looks like Vegas and lasts like concrete, Hot Shot will fly anywhere to build it. For entrepreneurs, builders, and parents fighting uphill battles, this is your wake-up call to bet on discipline, lead with character, and let results do the talking.

RUNDOWN   (352) is Gainesville, Florida — home of the University of Florida. They reflect on Petty's legendary catalog, from “American Girl” to “Free Fallin',” his Beatles-inspired path to music, and his legacy in Gators football culture. Mitch and Hotshot recap the Seahawks' nail-biting win in Glendale, where a late Jason Meyers field goal sealed the victory to move Seattle to 3–1. They turn to the Huskies' tough loss against Ohio State, noting costly penalties and red-zone failures that made the final score more lopsided than the game felt. The Mariners closed the regular season with a sweep at the hands of the Dodgers but secured the No. 2 seed at 90–72. Joe Doyle and Brady Farkas join Mitch to debate whether the late skid matters, the state of the bullpen (Bazardo vs. Brash in high-leverage spots, Munoz's control issues), and the playoff rotation order. They also spar over Cal Raleigh's MVP case against Aaron Judge and whether Seattle should prefer Cleveland or Detroit in the ALDS. The Seahawks dominated for three quarters in Arizona before letting the Cardinals storm back with 17 unanswered points, needing Jason Myers' last-second field goal to escape with a win. The No-Table crew weighs Sam Darnold's poise, Mike Macdonald's conservative late-game decisions, the defense's lapses, and the ongoing questions with the run game and offensive line. Mitch welcomes CBS Sports' Rick Neuheisel, presented by Taco Time Northwest, for his weekly whip-around of the college football world. They break down Washington's missed opportunities against Ohio State, Alabama's statement win at Georgia, and why depth in the trenches separates contenders from pretenders. Rick also weighs in on Penn State's playoff chances, Miami–Florida State as a marquee matchup, and hands out his Chicken Caesar Taco awards before making his Week 6 pick.   GUESTS   Brady Farkas | Host, Refuse to Lose Podcast (Mariners on SI) Joe Doyle | MLB Draft & Mariners Analyst, Over-Slot Substack Brady Henderson | Seahawks Insider, ESPN Jacson Bevens | Writer, Cigar Thoughts Rick Neuheisel | CBS College Football Analyst, Former Head Coach & Rose Bowl Champion   TABLE OF CONTENTS   0:00 | Gators, Guitar Lessons, and the Great Tom Petty 9:05 | BEAT THE BOYS - Register at MitchUnfiltered.com 13:20 | Seahawks Hold On, Huskies Fall Short, Mariners Await Their Opponent 35:47 | GUEST: Mariners No-Table; Mariners Finish 90–72, Set for ALDS with Questions Looming 1:00:26 | GUEST: Seahawks No-Table; Seahawks Survive Scare in Glendale 1:27:02 | GUEST: Rick Neuheisel; on Huskies, Bama's Revival, and the Week Ahead in College Football 1:56:57 | Other Stuff Segment: Hotshot raves about the film One Battle After Another with Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, and Regina Hall, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, calling it the best movie he's seen in a decade, while Mitch celebrates that the Astros have been eliminated from the playoffs and notes the Mariners' upcoming intrasquad scrimmages at T-Mobile. RUNDOWN   A cryptic Hotshot tweet about cheering for arrests sets the tone before the guys revel in the Mariners' wild seven-game sweep and the Seahawks' statement win in Pittsburgh. The bullpen's near-perfect ERA has playoff dreams buzzing, George Kirby snaps back in style, and Sam Darnold, Ken Walker, and Riq Woolen all shine. Mitch, Brady, and Joe revel in a historic seven-game home sweep that has the Mariners suddenly in control of the AL West. The bullpen's 30+ innings with only one earned run anchors the conversation, alongside George Kirby's 14-strikeout rebound, Julio's resurgence at the plate, and Cal Raleigh's record-setting power. With Kansas City and Houston on deck, the crew debates playoff odds, MVP chatter, and whether Josh Naylor might be the perfect midseason fit in Seattle. Fresh off a 31–17 win in Pittsburgh, the crew digs into a Seahawks performance that mixed chaos with control. Riq Woolen redeemed himself with a hustle play that saved a touchdown. Sam Darnold shook off mistakes to make clutch throws, Kenneth Walker topped 100 yards with a highlight-reel touchdown, and the ball finally spread to Cooper Kupp, JSN, Horton, and the tight ends. Rick Neuheisel joins to unpack a loaded college football weekend — from Brian Kelly scolding reporters after LSU's win, to Georgia's Gunner Stockton and Notre Dame–Texas A&M's wild finish, to Arch Manning getting booed in Austin. He shares stories of media jousts from his UCLA days, weighs in on John Mateer's Heisman chances at Oklahoma, and even recalls the “Apple Cup plunge” tradition from his perfect 4–0 run against WSU. Neuheisel closes with his weekly pick, riding Nebraska as a home underdog against Michigan while eyeing the upcoming Apple Cup showdown. Bud Withers joins to discuss his new book, the first ever written on the history of the Apple Cup, just in time for another chapter in the storied rivalry. He reflects on why the UW–WSU matchup is uniquely distinctive, how Don James viewed it as “everything to lose, nothing to gain,” and why Cougar upsets often define the most memorable games.   GUESTS   Brady Farkas | Host, Refuse to Lose Podcast (Mariners on SI) Joe Doyle | MLB Draft & Mariners Analyst, Over-Slot Substack Brady Henderson | Seahawks Insider, ESPN Jacson Bevens | Writer, Cigar Thoughts Rick Neuheisel | CBS College Football Analyst, Former Head Coach & Rose Bowl Champion Bud Withers | Veteran Pacific Northwest sportswriter & author of Too Good to Be Through   TABLE OF CONTENTS   0:00 | Arrest Videos, Mariners Revival and Seahawks win! 21:23 | Stockton, Pete Carrol and Wicked Game 25:15 | BEAT THE BOYS, Presented by Fireside Home Solutions. RUNDOWN   Plenty of sports heartbreak — from the Dolphins' ongoing struggles to the Seahawks' gut-punch opener. But there is relief in the Mariners' explosive bats and the Huskies' video-game offense, before shifting gears to launch the annual Beat the Boys contest, presented by Fireside Home Solutions. Listeners get the scoop on how to re-register, this year's lineup of “the boys” (including a new addition, Jason Puckett), and the all-important first password. Along the way, the guys swap birthday trivia, share a Pink backstory you won't forget, and set the stage for a packed show of Seahawks, Mariners, and college football talk. Mitch and Hotshot dive into the Seahawks' frustrating Week 1 loss to the 49ers, where Sam Darnold's quiet debut and Riq Woolen's costly miscues overshadowed a defense that couldn't quite finish the job. They debate Mike Macdonald's decision to kick on a crucial 4th-and-1, the missing downfield threat without DK Metcalf, and whether Seattle's “smashmouth” identity is more talk than reality. Shifting gears, the guys celebrate the Mariners' offensive eruption — 28 runs over two games — that keeps them two games up in the Wild Card race with 19 left, 13 at home. Hope rises in Seattle, but fans have learned to brace for heartbreak. Mitch welcomes Brady Henderson and Jacson Bevens to dissect Seattle's 17–13 Week 1 loss to the 49ers. The defense largely held its ground, limiting San Francisco to 17 points, but the offense sputtered behind Sam Darnold and a conservative game plan. The panel debates Mike Macdonald's critical fourth-down decision, the ongoing frustrations with cornerback Riq Woolen, and the lack of offensive balance despite Jackson Smith-Njigba's breakout. Mitch sits down with Joe Doyle and Brady Farkas to break down a much-needed rebound weekend for the Mariners. With Julio Rodríguez heating up, a rotation trying to steady itself, and 13 of the final 19 games at home, the M's are still firmly in the postseason race. The crew debates Seattle's playoff odds, the outlook for Jorge Polanco's contract, and the development of young catcher Harry Ford. Plus, they preview crucial upcoming series against the Cardinals and Angels as the AL West chase tightens. Rick Neuheisel joins Mitch to recap an eventful Week 2 in college football, from South Florida's upset of Florida to Oregon's early dominance behind quarterback Dante Moore. The two dive into Florida's coaching hot seat, Jedd Fisch's future at Washington, and why Arch Manning's mechanics and rhythm remain under scrutiny as Texas gears up for the SEC gauntlet. Neuheisel also hands out “Chicken Caesar soft tacos” to standout players and duos across the country before making his Week 3 pick: Texas Tech to roll big over Oregon State.   GUESTS   Brady Henderson | Seahawks Insider, ESPN Jacson Bevens | Writer, Cigar Thoughts Brady Farkas | Host, Refuse to Lose Podcast (Mariners on SI) Joe Doyle | MLB Draft & Mariners Analyst, Over-Slot Substack Rick Neuheisel | CBS College Football Analyst, Former Head Coach & Rose Bowl Champion   TABLE OF CONTENTS   0:00 | Mitch & Hotshot Return: Seahawks Frustrations, Dolphins Woes, and Beat the Boys is Back 6:18 | BEAT THE BOYS, Presented by Fireside Home Solutions. RUNDOWN   Nugget ice machines, clinking noises, and bizarre celebrity rumors (yes, even LeAnn Rimes' teeth). The warm-up turns nostalgic as the show celebrates musical birthdays for Billy Ray Cyrus, Gene Simmons, and Elvis Costello. And what about the chaos of late August sports: college football's return, the NFL looming, and the Mariners somehow both collapsing and contending at the same time? Hotshot recounts the fantasy football fiasco that ended his playing days back in 2007, while Mitch embraces his role as a “passionate pessimist” when it comes to Seattle baseball. And through it all, one bright spot remains—Brian Woo quietly posting Cy Young–level consistency, even if the voters never notice. Mitch interviews Nancy King, who was just 16 when a family trip to Seattle in August 1964 turned into the story of a lifetime. From checking into the Beatles' hotel, to a chance encounter with a Liverpool journalist, to being ushered into a private room where she spent 30 unforgettable minutes with John, Paul, George, and Ringo — Nancy recounts how one magical evening reshaped her life and inspired decades of storytelling. CBS analyst and Rose Bowl–winning coach Rick Neuheisel joins Mitch to open another season of weekly college football chats, breaking down the new 12-team playoff format, the looming SEC and Big Ten power plays, and the frenzy around Arch Manning's Texas debut in Columbus. He weighs in on Washington's year-two outlook under Jedd Fisch, Heisman dark horses, and makes his first official “Rick's Pick” of 2025 — with Oregon and LSU circled for January glory. Mitch welcomes back Joe Doyle and Brady Farkas for episode 348 of this Mariners No-Table segment, where the trio dissects Seattle's uneven road trip, a roster struggling against lefties, and what Cal Raleigh's historic home run pace means for the franchise. With Padres, Guardians, and Rays looming, the group debates roster moves, Harry Ford's September call-up chances, and whether the Mariners are missing their moment to bury Houston.   GUESTS   Nancy King | Eyewitness to the Beatles' 1964 Seattle stay and lifelong storyteller of that night at the Edgewater Hotel Rick Neuheisel | CBS College Football Analyst, Former Head Coach & Rose Bowl Champion Brady Farkas | Host, Refuse to Lose Podcast (Mariners on SI) Joe Doyle | MLB Draft & Mariners Analyst, Over Slot Substack   TABLE OF CONTENTS   0:00 | From Nugget Ice to Beatles Nights 21:56 | Passionate Pessimists, Fantasy-Free Since '07, and Mariners in the Madness 35:30 | GUEST: Nancy King; From North Dakota to the Edgewater: A Teenager's Night With the Beatles 1:05:25 | GUEST: Rick Neuheisel; Kicks Off College Football: Playoff Paths, Arch Madness, and Husky Hopes 1:34:28 | GUEST: Mariners No-Table; Mariners No-Table: Clunky Rosters, Cal Raleigh's Power Surge, and a Crucial Week Ahead 2:02:21 | Other Stuff Segment: Chinese Taipei wins Little League World Series, Issaquah loses to eventual softball champion Texas, Seahawks preseason struggles & roster cuts (Marquez Valdes-Scantling uncertainty), Lee Corso's final College GameDay broadcast, John Wall retires from NBA, Bengals Ring of Honor controversy (Boomer Esiason email & Corey Dillon snub), Roger Federer declared billionaire via On Running stake, Nolan Bushnell turns down 1/3 of Apple for $50K, Sean Kemp sentenced to 30 days home detention, Michael Jordan & Kobe Bryant card sells for $12.93M, Ro Crowder rearrested for sniffing strangers, Bellevue Pickleball Club opening. RUNDOWN   Not a roast but a convo about Taylor Swift's appearance with the Kelce brothers. Maybe some Kylie vs. Taylor banter, and Billy Joel's new documentary. Mitch and Hotshot run through notable August 18th birthdays and remembrances before spotlighting historic sports moments—from George Brett's chase for .400 to Earl Campbell's retirement and Rich Beem's upset of Tiger Woods. Then a little Beatles-in-Seattle tour lore. From there, the show jumps into Ed Sullivan's power to launch music careers, including the Commodores' near-miss. The Mariners' playoff push and the Seahawks' preseason promise. Mitch praises the offensive line and Sam Darnold's sharp play, while Hotshot keeps him grounded with the refrain: “It's the preseason.” The duo even dream on a Trey Hendrickson trade. The Mariners No-Table crew dives into a tough 2–4 stretch against Baltimore and New York, citing both rotation struggles and lineup issues, while finding optimism in Bryce Miller's return and Brian Wu's consistency. Gino Suarez's slump and playoff rotation questions loom large, as bold predictions fly for the Phillies and A's series. Brady Henderson of ESPN joins to break down Uchenna Nwosu's return, the unlikely Hendrickson trade scenario, Jake Bobo's breakout, and Clint Kubiak's offensive reboot. He also highlights Zach Charbonnet's growing role, Sam Darnold's fit in the new scheme, and the roster battles heating up ahead of Week 1. RUNDOWN   Mitch and Hotshot recap the Mariners' Ichiro celebration weekend, praising the team's tribute while questioning the odd inclusion of Tom Brady in the video montage—especially after deliberately omitting Alex Rodriguez to avoid boos. Episode 346's “area code spotlight” on Houston's, highlights a long list of famous residents and musical talent from ZZ Top and Kenny Rogers to Beyoncé and Travis Scott. Mitch and Hotshot marvel at the Mariners' blistering run—seven straight wins, 13 games over .500, and now just a game behind the Astros with 43 to play. With stars like Gino Suarez yet to heat up and pitching still not at peak form, the duo wonders just how high this team's ceiling might be. In this Mariners No-Table, Mitch, Joe Doyle, and Brady Farkas break down Seattle's 9–1 homestand, surging offense, and remarkable lineup depth even with Gino Suarez and Cal Raleigh struggling. They debate bullpen concerns—especially Andres Muñoz's command—plus looming roster decisions with Luke Raley and Victor Robles returning. Jacson Bevens joins Mitch for some key takeaways from Seattle's preseason opener, spotlighting rookie WR Tory Horton's strong debut, dynamic fullback usage, and a cleverly schemed interception that showcased Mike Macdonald's defense. They discuss the ceiling and depth of the defense, the roles of Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet, and the need for top performances from CBs Riq Woolen and Devon Witherspoon. In this re-aired classic, John Tesh tells Mitch the now-famous story of how “Roundball Rock” was born, from humming the tune into his answering machine in Europe to bringing it to life in the studio. He shares behind-the-scenes details about working with NBC, the song's enduring legacy, and his surprise at how deeply it has embedded itself in basketball culture.   GUESTS   Brady Farkas | Host, Refuse to Lose Podcast (Mariners on SI) Joe Doyle | MLB Draft & Mariners Analyst, Over Slot Substack Jacson Bevens | Cigar Thoughts, Seahawks Writer John Tesh | "Roundball Rock" - NBA's Iconic Theme   TABLE OF CONTENTS   0:00 | Mariners Celebrate Ichiro Weekend, Roast Tom Brady Video Cameo, and Spotlight Houston's 346 with Musical Legends 23:30 | Mariners Surge to Within One Game of Houston Behind Deep, Dangerous Lineup 39:21 | GUEST: Mariners No-Table: Red-Hot Offense, Roster Crunch Looming, and Pennant-Race Predictions 1:09:33 | GUEST: Jacson Bevens; Seahawks Preseason Takeaways: Horton Impresses, Fullback Power, Defensive Potential, and QB Depth Questions 1:29:50 | GUEST: John Tesh Recounts Creating the Iconic NBA on NBC Theme 1:51:50 | Other Stuff Segment: Seahawks vs. Raiders preseason game recap (and missed viewing due to building furniture), Seahawks upcoming preseason game vs. Chiefs — questions on starters like Sam Darnold and WR Tory Horton, Rookie Gray Zabel's strong performance at guard in preseason, Los Angeles Chargers LT Rashaan Slater — $113M contract extension followed by ruptured patella tendon in practice, NASCAR driver Connor Zilisch's clavicle injury while celebrating race win (compared to Kendrys Morales' injury), Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes' performance — ERA stats and seven-hit game, Proposal for Backstreet Boys vs. NSYNC in “The Match” golf event (and lack of interest from Mitch/Scott), Former NFL RB LaShaun Johnson sentenced for large-scale dogfighting operation, Former Miami Heat security officer Marco Thomas Perez charged with stealing/selling game-used memorabilia (including LeBron's Game 7 jersey), Houston police officer under investigation for TikTok video about writing tickets due to lack of sex, Johnstown, PA wins Little League Softball World Series — standout pitching by Reagan Bills, Tom Brady statue unveiled at Gillette Stadium (commentary on appearance), John Cena discusses hair transplant and hair loss stigma, Jen Pawol becomes first female umpire in MLB regular-season game, Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Cam Little hits 70-yard FG in preseason game, Starbucks Korea bans desktop computers, printers, and large setups in stores, Mariano Rivera tears Achilles in Yankees Old-Timers Game RIP Segment: Bobby Whitlock — Derek and the Dominos co-founder, first white artist signed to Stax Records, Jim Lovell — Apollo 13 commander, astronaut with four spaceflights Headlines: Owner of Trump Burger in Houston facing deportation, Man lights cigarette from Eternal Flame at Arc de Triomphe (Paris), Ice cream shop releases breast milk–flavored ice cream, Japanese teacher fired for working part-time at a convenience store; school apologizes to students.

We're bringing you two, count em TWO, episodes with women and non-binary firefighters and writers who have written books about their experiences working both in fire and on hotshot crews more specifically. The first in this short series is with author Kelly Ramsey, whose book WILDFIRE DAYS was released in June. Kelly and I spoke about some of the emotional toll of fighting fire—including the terrifying feeling of not feeling like you belong, especially in such an intense work environment—as well as the process of writing a book (including the nearly 50,000 words she wrote in her Notes app during her time in fire). A large part of our conversation centered on the many intricacies of hotshot culture that we both witnessed (and which, in some cases, left us both confounded). Many anecdotes, laughs and shared experiences ensued. This was a fun one to record and hopefully it's just as fun to listen to!Here's another link to Kelly's book in case you missed the first one ;) Here's the Life with Fire Patreon, in the event you'd like to support me through the transition to grad school (where I will continue to publish podcast episodes, and will have much more access to lots of smart fire people as I'll be in Missoula!)

RUNDOWN   Piano lessons, online gambling in the Cayman Islands, and Louis Armstrong trivia. We've got it all. Mitch and Hotshot dissects Ichiro's Hall of Fame speech, particularly his omission of managers like Lou Piniella. Mitch and Hotshot Scott unpack the Mariners' blockbuster moves—bringing back Eugenio Suarez and adding Josh Naylor at the trade deadline—instantly transforming a middling offense into one of the most dangerous in baseball. They contrast the current optimism with the baffling decision to trade Suarez last year for pennies, which may have cost the team a playoff spot. With Bryce Miller returning to form after injury and the offense now averaging nearly five runs per game, the duo argues that anything less than a playoff berth would be a major disappointment for the 2025 Mariners. David Samson join Mitch and reflects on his relationship with Ichiro Suzuki after being name-checked in Ichiro's Hall of Fame speech — including a humorous jab at the Miami Marlins. Samson details their deep personal friendship, Ichiro's elite preparation and humility, and why he believes Ichiro still deserves a roster spot even today. The conversation pivots to MLB trade deadline winners and losers, with Seattle emerging as a serious AL contender, and whether Cal Raleigh's heroic season could translate into an MVP — if Judge stumbles. Samson also criticizes the anonymous voter who snubbed Ichiro from a unanimous Hall induction, calling it “cowardice. Joe Doyle and Brady Farkas (Mariners No-Table) break down Seattle's pivotal week: winning three of four against Texas, the return of Eugenio Suarez, and a stretch that has them closing in on the AL West lead. The trio analyzes the revamped lineup, including Julio's hot August and Randy Arozarena in the leadoff spot, while also addressing Cal Raleigh's slump and bullpen concerns. They assess Bryce Miller's return timeline, why the team passed on Jhoan Duran, and whether George Kirby and Logan Gilbert can anchor the final playoff push. Out-on-a-limb predictions and plenty of Mariner optimism round out the episode. Brady Henderson joins Mitch Unfiltered to break down the top three storylines from Seahawks training camp: the major quarterback transition from Geno Smith to Sam Darnold, a loaded and returning defensive core with a few key injury concerns, and a possible shift in the running back hierarchy as Zach Charbonnet gains favor. Henderson also highlights emerging rookie wide receiver Tory Horton as more than just a training camp darling, weighs in on trade rumors involving Micah Parsons and Terry McLaurin, and offers key insight into position group battles, injury timelines, and contract status updates.   GUESTS   David Samson | Former Miami Marlins President, Host of Nothing Personal podcast Brady Farkas | Host, Refuse to Lose Podcast (Mariners on SI) Joe Doyle | MLB Draft & Mariners Analyst, Over Slot Substack Brady Henderson | Seahawks Insider, ESPN.com   TABLE OF CONTENTS   0:00 | Mariners Fans Miss the Plot, Cayman Island Trivia, and Ichiro's Quiet Snub 26:08 | Mariners All-In: Gino's Redemption, Bryce Miller's Return, and a Loaded Lineup Sparks Playoff Hopes 41:00 | GUEST: David Samson on Ichiro's Hall of Fame Roast, Seattle's MVP Catcher, and MLB Deadline Fallout. 1:09:43 | GUEST: Mariners No-Table; Mariners Hit Their Stride, Gino Returns, and Julio Ignites August Surge 1:41:00 | GUEST: Brady Henderson; Seahawks Camp Buzz: QB Shakeup, Defensive Depth, and a New WR Star? 1:56:03 | Other Stuff Segment: John Schneider contract extension, Seahawks GM performance over the last 8 years, Seahawks first-round draft picks review, Russell Wilson trade, Jamal Adams trade failure, philosophical questions about GM evaluation, Shannon Sharpe ESPN departure after legal settlement, Pete Carroll's return and fan reaction, Yankees fans caught in sexual act at stadium, Marcus Morris bad check scam at Vegas casinos, Marcus Morris jail food complaint, Eric Schmidt buys Spelling Manor for $110 million, history of Aaron and Tori Spelling, Gilbert Arenas illegal gambling ring in mansion, Poltergeist house recreated as Airbnb, Scottie Scheffler wins $18 million while not playing, PGA Tour bonus payouts. Today, we're joined by Ian Nelson, co-founder of Hotshot, a video-based learning platform that helps lawyers pick up essential legal, business, and technology skills in a more modern, practical way. Ian started out as a corporate lawyer who quickly found himself drawn to more innovative approaches to legal work. After being inspired by a firm in the UK, he jumped into something totally new—Practical Law—back when the idea of legal know-how resources was still pretty foreign in the US. In our conversation, Ian shares what sparked that leap from practicing law to shaping how lawyers learn. RUNDOWN   Episode 344 of Mitch Unfiltered opens with a humorous lament over the nonexistence of a 344 area code and quickly shifts into cultural reflection—from Morgan Wallen's massive Seattle shows to a heartfelt tribute to late jazz musician Chuck Mangione. Mitch and Hotshot Scott marvel at Ichiro Suzuki's eloquent, humorous, and emotional Hall of Fame speech, calling it mesmerizing and long overdue. Mitch and Hotshot dig into the Mariners' playoff hopes and trade deadline calculus. They debate the potential impact of acquiring Gino Suarez—Seattle fan favorite and current Diamondbacks slugger—and analyze Josh Naylor's recent addition to the lineup. Investment advisor and father of four, John Wasnock of North Bend, WA, stunned the poker world by finishing second in the 2025 World Series of Poker Main Event, earning a $6 million prize. A lifelong poker hobbyist and devoted Mariners fan, Wasnock's dream run began as a bucket-list entry and ended in financial freedom — allowing him and his wife to retire and focus on family. Despite losing a pivotal hand on the river, Wasnock played with composure and integrity, becoming a beloved underdog in the process. Brady Farkas joins Mitch Unfiltered to reflect on Ichiro Suzuki's powerful, funny, and fully English Hall of Fame speech in Cooperstown—calling it the best he's heard. Despite the celebratory weekend, the Mariners' on-field play disappointed, as they went 3–4 and squandered chances to gain ground in the playoff race. Trade deadline buzz surrounds players like Luke Raley and Geno Suarez, while Julio Rodríguez and Cal Raleigh give fans reasons to stay hopeful. Mitch and Jason Puckett (aka "Puck") dive into Chapter 10 of KJAren'ts, with plenty of laughs and commentary. Mitch shares how cohost Hotshot Scott somehow always has the perfect contact—including a North Bend native who just won $6 million as runner-up at the World Series of Poker. Mitch and Hotshot slide into Ottawa trivia, highlighting hometown music legends like Alanis Morissette and songwriter Paul Anka. Mitch and Hotshot Scott recap the Mariners' gut-punch loss on Sunday after taking the first two games from Houston, focusing on a costly JP Crawford error that flipped momentum in an 11-3 collapse. Despite the disappointment, the M's remain in playoff position heading into a daunting series with the red-hot Brewers and their 103-mph phenom Jacob Misiorowski. With the trade deadline approaching, Mitch speculates on bullpen help and a potential return for Eugenio Suarez. Mitch is joined by Brady Farkas and Joe Doyle [Mariners No-Table] to unpack a frustrating Sunday collapse that spoiled a potential sweep of the Astros, despite strong starts from the rotation and promising moments from Julio Rodríguez. The crew breaks down playoff odds, bullpen trade needs, and the logic behind a potential Gino Suarez rental deal. They preview a tough week ahead against the red-hot Brewers and tricky Angels, with bold predictions for Dom Canzone and the M's pitching staff. MLB Pipeline's Jim Callis returns to Mitch Unfiltered to discuss how Kade Anderson unexpectedly fell to the Mariners at No. 3—despite Callis saying it was highly unlikely just two weeks earlier. He explains why it wasn't a knock on Anderson, but a cost-saving move by the Nationals and Angels. Callis breaks down Anderson's strengths, how he compares to Paul Skenes, and when fans might expect to see him in the big leagues. He also weighs in on the Mariners' other top draft picks and gives the front office high marks for its overall haul. In this week's KJ-Aren'ts, Mitch and Jason Puckett relive the viral backlash from Mitch's tweet doubting Cal Raleigh's Home Run Derby chances with his dad pitching. RUNDOWN   Music history in honor of Tommy Mottola's July 14 birthday—Mitch details how Mottola signed Hall & Oates and running through each of their six No. 1 hits. The “audio clip of the week” spotlights former Cubs manager Lee Elia's legendary profanity-laden tirade at Wrigley Field after a 5–14 start in 1983. Mitch and Hotshot celebrate Seattle's sweep of first-place Detroit and reviewing the Mariners' 51–45 first-half record, good enough for a wild-card spot if the season ended today. Mitch explains why he's optimistic—his rotation is poised to string together quality starts, and an offense buoyed by hot streaks from Randy Arozarena, strong on-base work from JP Crawford, and newfound production from lower-order hitters means the club doesn't need Cal Raleigh to carry the load alone. Mariners bounce back from a blown five-run lead and near no-hitter loss in New York to sweep the AL's best Tigers, cementing a wild-card spot at the All-Star break. Mariners No-Table (Brady Farkas) unpack the unexpected selection of LSU lefty Cade Anderson (saved under slot, with a high floor) as a near-MLB-ready arm, dissect Julio Rodríguez's decision to skip the ASG before homering in each Detroit game, and express outrage that Gino Suárez (31 HRs) wasn't invited to the Home Run Derby. Mitch and Puck chat KJRn'ts Chapter 8 by commiserating over their sudden need for reading glasses and sharing a wild family dare in which Mitch finally ate an entire bowl of mushrooms after his son aced the SAT. They then catch up on life—Jason's youth baseball woes, Mitch's freshman at Arizona—and take playful shots at Jim Moore's “top sports radio hosts” rankings. In this throwback to Ep. 197 (July 5, 2022), Mitch sits down with Rhonda Smith Banchero to revisit her own collegiate battles—most memorably guarding Cheryl Swoopes—and to explore how her “tough-love” coaching shaped Paolo's rise to the No. 1 NBA draft pick. Rhonda shares the moment she bowed out of one-on-one after seventh grade, her deliberate accountability style at home, and the family's bittersweet pride as Paolo chose Duke over UW. Now that he's secured a record-setting $239 million extension, her insights on nurturing a champion feel more poignant than ever. From the news that Michael Jordan's Highland Park estate is now an Airbnb (no parties allowed) to celebrity-boxing matchups, LeBron's Beverly Hills compound, Wimbledon winners, and even the exit of Pearl Jam's longtime drummer Matt Cameron, Mitch and Hotshot pack a whirlwind of sports and pop-culture headlines into one rapid-fire segment.   GUESTS   Brady Farkas | Host, Refuse to Lose Podcast (Mariners on SI) Jason Puckett | Sports Broadcaster & Co-Host of the Refuse to Lose Podcast Rhonda Smith Banchero | UW Women's Basketball Legend & Mother of Paolo Banchero   TABLE OF CONTENTS   0:00 | Celebrating Tommy Mottola's Birthday by Tracing His Early Role in Launching Hall & Oates and Featuring Lee Elia's Infamous Cubs Rant 23:58 | Mariners Enter All-Star Break Thick in the Wild Card Hunt on the Back of Emerging Rotation and Depth-Built Offense 42:07 | GUEST: Mariners No-Table, Brady Farkas, Resilient Road Swing, College Ace Picked at No. 1, Julio's ASG Opt-Out & Gino's Derby Snub 1:07:30 | GUEST: Jason Puckett & Mitch on Presbyopia, Mushroom Dares and Getting Snubbed in the Top-10 Radio Hosts List 1:48:05 | GUEST: Rhonda Smith Banchero, Seattle's No. 1 Pick Paolo Banchero Lands $239 M Deal—Mom Rhonda Smith on Raising an NBA Star, Facing Cheryl Swoopes, and the Duke Decision 1:54:07 | Other Stuff Segment: Golf course fight involving NHL player Nick Tarnaski at Alberta Springs, Jeopardy-style home run question and Gino Suarez's All-Star Derby snub, Adrian Peterson celebrity boxing bout vs. Joe Castaneda, Cal Raleigh's special Home Run Derby bats (including Seattle Supersonics tribute), Airbnb listing for Michael Jordan's former Highland Park home, return of John Tesh's “Roundball Rock” NBA theme on NBC, John Elway cart accident clearance, LeBron James's Beverly Hills mansion construction update, Wimbledon champions Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner comebacks, Ben Shelton's match and Trinity Rodman misidentification, Auburn's DeAngelo Barber marijuana arrest and drug law commentary, speculation about Tom Brady's next girlfriend, Matt Cameron departing Pearl Jam after 27 years, Lorenzo Lamas filing for sixth divorce, Alan G. RUNDOWN Mitch and Hotshot Scott kick off Episode 340 with an emotional twist — Hotshot is moving from Snoqualmie to Sammamish, leaving behind years of memories, including the house where his daughter was raised. The two reflect on the sentimentality of leaving home and Scott's surprising inability to cry… except maybe after a World Series loss. The conversation pivots to the 340 area code — the U.S. Virgin Islands — leading to a trivia-filled celebration of Kelsey Grammer, Tim Duncan, Sugar Ray Seales, and Dave Matthews. Mitch connects the dots between obscure sports facts and Seattle's ties to musical legends, including a memorable story about Dave Matthews' tour bus incident. Steve Phillips joins to break down Cal Raleigh's MVP case. Raleigh's home run pace, elite defense, and the grueling Seattle travel schedule all contribute to a narrative that may rival Aaron Judge's candidacy — if Cal keeps up the pace and the M's stay in the playoff hunt. Hughes Norton stops by to revisit his rollercoaster ride as Tiger Woods' original super-agent. From landing the record-setting Nike and Titleist deals to being fired over the phone with no closure, Norton shares never-before-heard behind-the-scenes drama from his memoir Rainmaker. Mariners No-Table with Brady Farkas and Joe Doyle returns. The guys react to a rollercoaster road trip, Joe's doomsday texts, and Cal's MVP surge. They debate whether Julio Rodriguez can be “just a singles hitter,” how much value Randy Arozarena has left, and what it'll take to reach the postseason.   GUESTS Steve Phillips | MLB Network & SiriusXM Analyst Hughes Norton | Author, Rainmaker Brady Farkas | Mariners No-Table, Host, Refuse to Lose Podcast Joe Doyle | Mariners No-Table, MLB Draft & Mariners Analyst   TABLE OF CONTENTS 0:00 | Mitch grills Hotshot on taking time off to move. RUNDOWN Mitch and Hotshot open Episode 339 by revisiting one of Seattle sports fans' oldest wounds — the Sonics' departure — while Oklahoma City dances in the NBA Finals. That leads to a spirited deep dive into Boston's music history, with Hotshot tested on everything from Aerosmith to New Edition. Mitch drops a classic Sonics tale: the time he painted his face in silent protest on a live Sonics pay-per-view broadcast. Pete Carroll makes a podcast appearance — not here, but on Get Got with Marshawn Lynch and Michael Robinson — and throws light shade at Earl Thomas while diplomatically reflecting on his Seahawks departure. Marshawn lets him cook. Mariners No-Table, Brady Farkas reacts to a 30-run explosion in Chicago, marvels at Cal Raleigh's historic pace, and debates whether Cal should skip the Home Run Derby to stay fresh. JP Crawford's All-Star case gets real, Solano suddenly looks irreplaceable, and the lineup finally shows life from top to bottom. Jason Puckett returns for the KJ-Aren'ts, where Mitch discovers Puckett's age through a Thunder hate-watch article and recounts legendary sideline reporting drama during the 1996 NCAA Final Four.   GUESTS KJ-Aren'ts; Jason Puckett | Former KJR Host Mariners No-Table; Brady Farkas | Host, Refuse to Lose Podcast   TABLE OF CONTENTS 0:00 | Sonics PTSD flares up as Thunder hit the Finals. Pete also explains how control and roster vision led to his Seahawks exit. 29:24 | Mitch declares Cal's historic tear the most electrifying run by a Mariners hitter since Griffey '94 — name-dropping Mantle, Bench, and A-Rod along the way. 49:23 | Guest: Mariners No-Table with Brady Farkas. The Mariners explode for 30 runs in Chicago, Cal Raleigh enters historic territory, and Mitch argues he should skip the Derby to stay fresh. Farkas sees the other side. 1:22:03 | Guest KJ-Aren'ts Part 1: Mitch finds out Puckett's age by reading The Athletic, where Puckett is quoted from a Thunder hate-watch at Mike's Chili Parlor. 1:41:12 | Guest KJ-Aren'ts Part 2: Mitch tells the story of being banned from the Final Four — then shows up on live TV in full Syracuse face paint. Kevin and Marcus nearly lose it on air. 2:03:54 | Other Stuff Segment: Mitch confesses to miscrediting “The Twist” and recycling a decade-old John Olerud story, while Scott gleefully mocks his declining fastball. They also swap nostalgic war stories — Scott streaming Game 7 from a spaghetti joint, Mitch sideline-reporting with Syracuse face paint — before spiraling into Rick Ocasek's death, landline superiority, and the glory days of Queen Anne's Spaghetti Factory.

Hotshot goes MIA for eight hours and doesn't even play. Mitch follows with two public floggings: one for crediting “The Twist” to Fats Domino, the other for dusting off a 2013 John Olerud story like it was breaking news. His fastball? Missing. Hotshot? Happy to point that out. Dave Grosby returns to talk about his health battles, a rough ketamine treatment, and the overlooked value of opioids for pain relief. He still finds time to make a bold Mariners playoff case. Brady Henderson checks in from Seahawks camp to explain why Mike Macdonald's version of Seattle looks more united and less ego-driven. He breaks down Sam Darnold's grip on QB1, the Jalen Milroe development arc, and why 2024 already feels different. Finally, Brady Farkas flies solo at the Mariners No-Table. Seattle sweeps Cleveland, JP Crawford stays hot, and Julio keeps hitting — but not with much muscle. They break down rotation depth, bullpen leaks, and trade bait like Gino Suarez and Josh Naylor. Mitch dives into the city's hidden gems and famous natives, from Counting Crows bassist Millard Powers to NBA legend Bob McAdoo and Tecmo-Bowl hero Haywood Jeffires. Along the way, we get Billy Crash Craddock trivia, a “plug it in” moment, and a savage grocery store showdown involving a rogue bagger and a flustered Mitch. Emmy-winning filmmaker Rebecca Gitlitz joins the show to discuss her explosive new Netflix documentary, Untold: The Fall of Favre.
