Ian is live from Chambers Bay for a very great reason. Jake Dickert is on his way to Wake Forest and Ian is both mad and disappointed at the same time. While we know college football is a transient business, we were led to believe Dickert was cut from a different cloth, especially considering what we've heard from him throughout this season. Ian sees this as wrong on a lot of levels. Brandon Funston, The Athletic joins us for a check in on the fantasy football playoffs! He takes you through the latest on your fantasy roster. As for the statements Dickert made leading up to this, which contradict his action today, there's not much else he can say in those situations. Ian gives some names he's hearing when it comes to interest in the Washington State head coaching position. Mike Holmgren, Legendary Coach joins us to take a look at the week that was for the Seahawks last Sunday and previews the rest of their season down the stretch. Anne McCoy talked to the media today and we listen to what she had to say in the wake of Jake Dickert's departure.

GS#966 Recently, while in Seattle, my travel buddies and I had the opportunity to play Chambers Bay, a walking only, public, links style course on the shore of Puget Sound. You may remember Chambers Bay from when it hosted the 2015 US Open won by Jordan Spieth who stayed one stroke ahead of runners-up Dustin Johnson and Louis Oosthuizen for his first US Open victory. Spieth, at age 21 became the youngest U.S. Open champion in 92 years, since Bobby Jones in 1923. The reigning Masters champion, Spieth became the youngest to win the Masters and U.S. Open in the same year, passing Tiger Woods. It is a first of the month recording for the Shotgun Start, which means extra pep and enthusiasm. They also hit on Akshay's three-putt to lose and his current positioning for the Presidents Cup alongside many others outside the auto-qualifying spots. Jay Blasi has worked on multiple great projects in the world of golf course architecture. Chambers Bay, Santa Ana CC, and Stanford's Practice Facility, to name just a few. A voyage to the lone star state and Houston more specifically was a new journey for Jay but one that for my money he has aced.Lakeside CC is a 1952 Ralph Plummer original and was in need of a new look prior to Jay's work. The new rendition of Lakeside will feature more strategic intrigue, shortgrass, firm and fast playing conditions, and a convergence in difficulty between good and bad players. Taking inspiration from CC of Charleston and Yeamans Hall in Charleston, SC, Jay has implemented multiple template holes into the new version of Lakeside CC as well which I believe will be well received by membership. Both Henry and Walker had the chance to sit down with Jay during this podcast which made for a fun two part interview. Learn the Surprising Secret to Success from a Guest Who Reveals Why Being Your Own Best Friend is Key. When discussing player determination in the realm of golf, the name Christian Heavens is most likely to be included. Christian keeps his nose to the grindstone and his eye on the ball in all aspects of his life as a pro golfer and CEO of Tour Line Golf. His tenure in the sport reflects a career-low round of 61, earned in a Florida pro golf tour event, and he's accomplished 25 tournament victories, including the St. Louis Publix Open this past May.Following a standout collegiate career, Christian made his mark professionally as a member of the PGA Tour Canada in 2012. The stealth player recorded his first two victories on the Florida Professional Golf Tour that same year and went on to compete on the Golf Channel's Big Break, ABC's Season 2 of Holey Moley, the Latin America Tour, and on Florida professional tours. An alumnus of the First Tee of Greater St. Lous, Christian represented the organization at the 2006 First Tee Open at Pebble Beach and in 2010 competed in the U.S. Amateur at Chambers Bay. His outstanding academic and golfing skills earned him a First Tee Scholars scholarship to Georgetown College in Kentucky, where he captured the All-American Inaugural Gimmie Golf Professional Invitational in 2018.A two-time, first-team All-Conference member of the Mid-South Conference, as a junior Christian won first place in the final individual standings at the MSC Championships. For his efforts, he was named MSC Golfer of the Year and went on to earn third-team NAIA All-America honors. In each of his final three seasons at Georgetown, he finished in the top 12 of the MSC Championships.MAIN TAKEAWAYS:Christian Heavens isn't your “traditional” golfer. He got into golf at a time when golf for a Black man was not the norm. His grandfather, Levester Heavens, a firefighter, taught him to play golf when he was a little kid. Christian shared his grandfather's love for the game. Not compromising who you are despite the norm is important in maintaining your identity. Christian still loves hip-hop, and R&B and brings pieces of himself to the golf course. You can be you and still enjoy golf and feel welcome at a golf course or country club, he said. Alex tells a story about a joke he made during an interview, that the interviewer said they didn't understand so they didn't select him out of the top three candidates. Alex said he was just being himself and that should never change.Christian said the Black golf community is small and they talk. Code-switching is one obstacle they feel at a professional level. It can be exhausting as there's sometimes pressure to adapt or code-switch in the golf world. Being himself is one of the things that drives them to make golf more accessible. Alex said there's a difference between code-switching and being various versions of yourself. Christian said he has an at-home, chill, country club side that makes him feel comfortable. “You have to learn to go where you are celebrated not tolerated. Just being you, there will be people who rock with you and those who aren't going to rock with you. Even if you put on a persona, it will still be people that like you and those that don't. Be you and find and attract the people who genuinely like you. You can collaborate with your energies.”- Christian HeavensConfidence and building confidence, or faking it until you make it is key. Act as if you belong there and know where you're going. It will get you through many doors. Success breeds confidence. In golf, there are no coaches. On the golf course, the player can be their own worse enemy criticizing their techniques. But we have to speak to ourselves like we would someone else. You have to catch yourself and be aware of it to combat that. Be your own best...

Maddison Hinson-Tolchard, a junior on the OSU Cowgirl golf team, joins the podcast fresh off her experience in the ISPS Handa Australian Open. She and JT chop it up about the joys of Australian sand-belt golf, the pros and cons of a mixed event and just how glorious Cameron Smith's mullet is in person! The two then circle back to talk about Maddy's background and route to Stillwater, talking about the ups and downs of the OSU golf experience in 2022 (spoiler alert: more ups than downs!), and what life is like for a college golfer. They finish up by talking about Maddy's experience in the US Women's Amateur at Chambers Bay which leads JT down the golf course rabbit hole listing off all the big time courses she got to play in 2022. Garrett Morrison spent this past Sunday watching Japanese sensation Saki Baba become the latest U.S. Women's Amateur champion. He joins Andy Johnson to share his impressions of the course where all the action took place, Chambers Bay, and its role in future USGA championships after the controversial 2015 U.S. Open. With "anchor sites" like Pebble Beach and Pinehurst No. 2 booked into the 2050s, there's not much room for underdog courses to elbow their way in. Andy and Garrett dig into the why the USGA (and, to a slightly lesser extent, the PGA of America) have pursued this model of venue selection, the issues it's creating, and what they'd like to see change.
Will Zalatoris is now a PGA Tour winner after claiming the FedEx St Jude in a wild three hole playoff over Sebb Straka. We review the week in Memphis, shout out the US Women's Amateur at Chambers Bay and - with the help of our friend and lawyer Job Fickett - do our best to make sense of the legal proceedings this week in the LIV-Tour lawsuit. This Monday episode begins with a discussion on the dynamics of youth birthday parties before jumping into the thrilling conclusion to the first leg of the Courier Cup Playoffs. Andy and Brendan discuss the strutting and putting of Will Zalatoris, who clinched his first victory on the PGA Tour in a circus-like playoff against the Sepptic Tank. It was a potentially ugly day for the PGA Tour that finished with a bang. They react to the bizarre Cam Smith penalty and the LIV conspiracy theories that followed. Saki Baba's dominant U.S. Women's Am victory is discussed, as is host site Chambers Bay and the unfortunate reality that we may never see a U.S. Open there again thanks to the ridiculous pre-advance booking at a few anchor sites. The final regular season event on the Korn Ferry Tour is also discussed at the end, with praise for Michael Kim, a pronunciation debate for Kevin Roy, and a schedule lament that buries one of the Tour's best days behind the playoffs.
Zalatoris learned how to putt. What was Sepp Straka thinking? Cam Smith penalized 24 hours later. Who were the Top 70 to advance? Domination at Chambers Bay. LIV Lawsuit developments. Much More!!
