Courier Talking Football: Dundee FC, Dundee United, St Johnstone and other east coast Scottish clubs
It's a month when transfer ins and outs make the headlines. But at Dundee United it was a man who has been a Tannadice for a few years grabbing the glory in midweek. In this week's Talking Football podcast, Jim Spence, Sean Hamilton and Eric Nicolson discuss a player who, like Stephen Dobbie, is maturing into an all-round forward with several good years left in him. Also on the agenda are the baby steps St Johnstone and Dundee are taking towards potential Premiership safety, their new recruits and the next Dundee derby.
Cammy's Pars have secured their promotion playoff spot while Chris will be spending Friday evening bricking it as Morton fight to avoid 9th. Away from the action, Stephen Dobbie's announcement that he's leaving Palmerston Park prompts a chat about the Championship Hall of Fame. Who are you nominating?
In our third episode of 'The Pyramid' Scottish football podcast, Kenny Crawford is joined by Queen of the South captain Stephen Dobbie, Falkirk co-manager Lee Miller, Arbroath midfielder James Craigen and Queen's Park defender Peter Grant. We hear about why Stephen is a devoted Doonhamer, how Lee is adjusting to management with the Bairns and what it's been like for Peter growing up in a football dominated family.
Hosts Tom Johnson and Dan Hopwood are joined by former Blackpool loanee Stephen Dobbie to discuss his introduction into football at Rangers, making his name at Queen of the South and helping Blackpool to promotion in 2010. We find out why Dobbie never joined on permanent contract despite having four loan spells with the Seasiders. Dobbie sealed his fate into Blackpool folklore when he played his part in a special night at the City Ground as we beat Nottingham Forest, also rejoining for three further loan spells and firing some important goals at both ends of the Championship table.
Hearts down Dundee. Dunfermline and Ayr are the set piece masters. Morton hold on against Alloa and Raith might just continue the newly promoted club trend after all. Cammy and Chris walk through everything you need to know from matchday one (apart from Stephen Dobbie getting some abuse, they completely forgot to talk about that...).
It's the Winter Break in the Premiership, Grado's still in the midst of playing Jepeto in panto so we thought we would take our own break and give you another Best Of! This week find out what Kashmir is really like with David Robertson, hear Grado duet with Nicholas McDonald, Stephen Dobbie lifts the lid on Ian Holloway and Hugh Keevins talks about how he may have killed a man!
Cammy and Chris discuss matchday 13 in the Scottish Championship as both part time teams earn three points, Dundee United continue to rule the city and Stephen Dobbie puts on an assist masterclass at Palmerston. 00:22 Dundee 0-2 Dundee United07:54 Alloa 2-1 Dunfermline Athletic16:38 Arbroath 3-0 Inverness Caledonian Thistle23:06 Queen of the South 3-1 Ayr United30:10 Partick Thistle 2-1 Greenock Morton
The sun tanned superman, David Tanner is in for Ewen again as Grado and him speak to Queen of the South legend Stephen Dobbie and radio panto baddy Hugh Keevins. Stephen talks us through his new statue, Ian Holloway's unique training methods and how he could have ended up in the ring with Grado! And a radio icon that people love to hate, Hugh Keevins, is our Who Are You Guest? Hear some brilliant stories about the time he got thrown out of the Celtic social club, Bobby Williamson mugging him and how he ended up paying for himself to be abused on Superscoreboard. Plus footballers who have turned policeman, Kieran McAnespie on Babe Station and your chance to win beer! Episode 23 of Football Daft is here and it's ready to kick off.
Normal service is resumed as we discuss the Cricket World Cup, Anthony Joshua, the Woman's World Cup, the NBA Finals and Ryan gives us another below average game to play.
After a Scottish Cup weekend that threatened to get very messy, but saw the Dons emerge into the Quarter Finals, we're joined by Shona Duthie and Cameron Hobbs to praise McGinn, question GMS, and admire that Stephen Dobbie goal (but only from the safety of a 4-1 win). With a line-up of American Football aficionados, we also asked 'Which NFL team are the Dons?'
Andrew Slaven, JJ Bull and Laura Brannan dissect the 5th round of the Scottish Cup, a weekend where the real quality was provided by Stephen Dobbie, Nicky Clark…and Scott Brown?! After a week of barbs and with yet another Killie-Rangers game around the corner, is Steve Clarke inside Steven Gerrard’s head? Is Ryan Jack a stud magnet? And do footballers in Scotland need to start wearing protective cups? The Auchinleck adventure is over but is this where Hearts start their surge for silverware? Across the city, Hibs might be about to appoint the muscular Michael Appleton. Would this represent a step down from Neil Lennon? Staying in the capital, Edinburgh City’s sporting director and former Scottish Cup winner Jim Jefferies joins us on the podcast to discuss the ambitions of the club. And we speak to the BBC’s Andrew Southwick about the start of the new Scottish Women’s Premier League season. Who can stop Glasgow City reaching 13 in a row? • PART 1: Hearts 4-0 Auchinleck Talbot with Gordon Senior from the Hearts Review podcast (02m 00s) • PART 2: Aberdeen 4-1 Queen of the South (08m 10s) • PART 3: Kilmarnock 0-0 Rangers (15m 15s) • PART 4: Celtic 5-0 St Johnstone (21m 50s) • PART 5: SPFL round-up with Neil White (27m 30s) • PART 6: Edinburgh City’s Jim Jefferies joins us (30m 10s) • PART 7: St Mirren 1-2 Dundee Utd, East Fife 0-1 Partick Thistle & Hibs 3-1 Raith Rovers….Appleton in at Easter Road? (38m 10s) • PART 8: Andrew Southwick previews the SWPL campaign (48m 00s)
It's the two John's on as Krys has to miss the podcast which I'm sure he'll get roasted for next week. That's kind of a clue as to why he missed it. The Edinburgh clubs remain on top in the Premiership but Hearts unbeaten run came to an end. Eight games in and everyone has lost at least once. There were goals galore in the top flight with only two teams failing to score. Aberdeen scored four against St Mirren for the second time this season. At the bottom end of the table, Dundee felt hard done by due to some questionable decisions and an unfortunate deflection. Europe saw mixed results for Rangers and Celtic with a win and a loss respectively. It looks like it could be a tough task for Celtic to get through the group. There is lower league chat with a few managers losing their job and yet another hat trick from Stephen Dobbie. He has gone on to sign a new deal which will delight the Queen of the South fans. The podcast concludes with chat about the national team and the withdrawals of Griffiths and Fraser. Hopefully it doesn't prove to be costly as squad doesn't have a lot of attacking options. Thanks for listening and feel free to contact us on @sffpodcast on twitter.

The boys were joined by the first Cornerstone Player of the Month, QOTS Striker, Stephen Dobbie, to find out which area of his body he'll shave first. A lower league bonanza as Joel leads Shaughan, Craig G Telfer and the returning Danny Denholm through a forensic delve into the fag end of Scottish football. There is a discussion about the Raith Rovers, Queen's Park and Stephen Dobbie from the recent Irn-Bru Cup games before the boys delve into the problems at Falkirk, Arbroath's chances in League 1 and the surprising struggles at Dumbarton. There is, of course, enough time for a bit of *repeat after me* B-A-T! B-A-T! B-A-T! B-A-T! B-A-T! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
In a podcast packed full of talking points, Andrew Slaven and JJ Bull have gone all out. The host of Scottish football on Sky Sports, Hayley McQueen, joins us to dissect the first Old Firm game of the season, as debate rages over whether Ryan Jack was fouled in the lead-up to Celtic’s winner. That’s one of many refereeing decisions that’s got the panel hot and bothered. Not least Partick Thistle’s ghost goal against Morton in the Championship, which makes us question reality. Hearts stay top of the Premiership thanks to a hat-trick from the moaning, yet brilliant Steven Naismith, a match that proved to be the last in charge of St Mirren for Alan Stubbs Former Scotland manager Gordon Strachan is also our guest as we debate the appointment of Andy Robertson as Scotland’s new skipper. And the top scorer in all of British football this season, Stephen Dobbie of Queen of the South, is on the Totally Scottish Football Show. Sorry it's been so long, we've had lives to live and, surprisingly, there's not actually been that much to talk about of late about Bolton Wanderers. So Dan is joined by Liam and Tom to discuss the games over the three weeks and everything else in between. The lads touch on the late debates to Middlesbrough and Cardiff City, and the extremely dull draw with Charlton Athletic, but they focus on the Whites actually winning a game, as they beat 4th placed Hull City 1-0, courtesy of Stephen Dobbie. As well as discussing the steady improvements, the lads also discuss which players have been impressive over the last four weeks, which spirals into a deep debate on playing youngsters. Then the current managerial 'farce' is discussed, with everyone ruling themselves out of the job at Bolton, who will actually get it? The trio discuss the possibilities of Phillips/Nolan/Reid, Gary Bowyer and Jon Sheridan. Then comes a quick preview of our last game of the season, away at Fulham. Will Bolton win their first away game of the season, who knows? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

It's a pre-season extravaganza, it's a bumper five-man show, it's the return of special guest, Bolton News chief football writer, Mr. Marc Iles. And it's bloody long, but also bloody fantatsic. It's so long in fact, that we've had to split the show into two parts, the first of which is available for listening now, with the scond coming on Wednesday. Host Chris is joined by Marc, stand in Tech Wizard Rob, the maverick Liam O'Meara and, making his debut, U21 correspondent Tom Molloy. The first lengthy segment of Part I was discussing everything of note from the last two friendlies of pre-season, against Port Vale and Charlton Athletic. Talk of Gary Madine, Filip Twardzik, Derik Osede, Tim Ream, Andy Kellett, Josh Vela, Zach Clough and many more was in abundance. Next up was a round up of all the news that's occured over the past week. Starting witht the soon to be announced triple signing of Lawrie Wilson, Stephen Dobbie and Emile Heskey. Next up was the potential signing of Italian right back Francesco Pisano, acompanied by the denial of any interest in fellow contryman Massimo Coda. Rob Hall's departure was discussed before briefly touching on the new away kit. But my words don't do it justice, make sure you listen to the first half of this facinating podcast. After a rather conspicuous abscene, the #LOVpod is finally back, well at least some of it. Yes, unfortunatley, one of the participants in this weeks episode kind of disapears after an twenty minutes, as his recording cut out. But thanks to Dan's wonderful editing, all the way from the French Riviera, it makes a degree of sense. So listen closely as Chris and new boys Tom Wilson and for a bit, Alastair Sledge, discuss the talking points of the last two weeks, including Bolton Wanderers' bad, then much improved pre-season showings, the likes of Stephen Dobbie, Lawrie Wilson and Derik Osede, Darren Pratley being given the captain's arm band and then a certain fund raising campaign for a certain Adam Le Fondre. The pod is then brought to a close with a game of guess who and the question of the week, which enquired into the level of concern you have for Wanderers' potential relegation next season. With lots of random ramble in between, we hope you enjoy the return of the #LOVpod. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

This week's episode of the Lion of Vienna podcast was quite an awkward affair, with four segments recroded over three days, one of which this week's host, Dan Murphy, was steaming drunk on. Which you may find annoying or hummourous depending on your taste. Dan was joined at various points by Elliot, Rob and Arran Clements as they dicussed a wide range of things. First of all was a brief chat on the return of football, as a Bolton Wanderers XI traveled to Dan's home town of Atherton to face Atherton Collieries. Next up discussion on all the going ons at the Macron this week, including chat on Ben Amos, Gary Madine and Darren Pratley all signing with the Wanderers, Wilson Palacios and Stephen Dobbie coming in on trial, the signing of Derik Osede, dreams of Kevin Nolan returning, and the saddening departure of Eidur Gudjohnsen. The second segment was a chat about how to improve the atmosohere at the Macron next season, as the lads went for a meating with the club on how to improve it. Then they discussed the possibility of Neil Lennon leaving the club to go and manage his old side, Leicester City, which led nicely on to the question of the week which was discussing who Lennon's replacement could be.
