A lot could be riding on the Government's upcoming global investment summit. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon's hoping to tease out more foreign financial investment in New Zealand's projects and industries at the two-day event in March But Simplicity Chief Executive Sam Stubbs says he's concerned Luxon will spend more time focused on offshore money than domestic money. He told Mike Hosking getting a dollar from overseas is a lot harder than getting a domestic dollar in the door. Stubbs says we'll need to be providing a lot of incentives, something we've typically steered clear of in the past, and you can't just set up an expo tent, sprinkle it with a few All Blacks and expect foreigners to invest in New Zealand - it's a competitive business. Alan Stubbs, the captain who led Everton to fourth place in 2004/05 – their highest ever Premier League position – is the latest guest on Goodison Park: My Home. A lifelong Evertonian from Kirkby, Stubbs was a passionate match-going Blues supporter as a youngster and was also on the club's books as a boy, but his professional career started down the East Lancs Road with Bolton Wanderers.   The former centre-half recalls his breakthrough spell with the Trotters, an attempt by Everton to sign him – that he didn't know about until years later – his big move to Celtic, including some poignant revelations about his cancer battles, and finally getting the chance to join his beloved Blues in his 30th year.  Stubbs enjoyed two separate spells at Goodison Park, regretting the circumstances which prompted him to quit in between, while he also lifts the lid on some of the great characters he played alongside, such as Paul Gascoigne and Wayne Rooney, as well as offering a candid take on David Moyes' evolving managerial methods. This leads to a discussion of his recent findings on histone lactylation and its implications in cellular metabolism, as well as the intricacies of epigenetic imprinting in stem cell biology. Last but not least we touch upon Dr. Meyenn's most recent study, published in Nature, investigating the epigenetic effects of obesity. He provides a detailed overview of how adipose tissue undergoes transcriptional and epigenetic rearrangements during weight fluctuations. The conversation highlights the notion of epigenetic memory in adipocytes, showing how obesity is not just a temporary state but leaves lasting cellular changes that can predispose individuals to future weight regain after dieting.
