We take a deep dive into Taylor's past in high school. Ragle talks about the first time saw Taylor as an opponent, and how he eventually recruited Taylor to Chaparral. Again we get into Taylor high school transcript and how blatantly bad it was. Ragle talks about how college coaches were afraid at first because of how bad it was but then once they saw Taylor play, they eventually came around to see if they could make it work. Ragle tells this hilarious story of how he got Taylor to sign over to Chaparral as well as how Taylor was the original "Blind Side" by blocking kids onto the track. In 667 career NBA games, he totaled nearly 3000 points, 1000 rebounds, 800 assists and 333 steals. This week on Inside the Headset, we are featuring our Division II Coach of the Year discussion. The coaches recap this past season, reflect on key mentors in their life, and discuss the connections they have made through the AFCA. The regional coach of the year winners for Division II are: Region 1: Ernie McCook, Shepherd University Ernie McCook recently completed his fifth season at the helm for the Rams after being named the head coach at Shepherd on January 24, 2018 after serving as an assistant at Shepherd for 18 years. McCook led Shepherd to a 13-2 record in the 2022 season. McCook led Shepherd to a 10-3 mark and an NCAA II playoff appearance in its first season of competition in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in 2019. Prior to becoming head coach he served as offensive coordinator for nine years and was offensive line coach for 10 years for Shepherd from 1999-2008. McCook was elevated to assistant head coach in 2007. He spent the 2009 season as the run game coordinator/tight ends coach at Liberty University before returning to Shepherd the next season. McCook served as assistant head coach/offensive coordinator at Shepherd from 2010-17. Region 2: Chennis Berry, Benedict College Chennis Berry was named head football coach at Benedict College on February 11, 2020 and wrapped up an 11-1 season with a SIAC championship. Berry came to Benedict after serving as the Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator at Southern University. During his seven seasons with Southern, the Jaguars had a winning record every season, while the offense under his direction set numerous school and SWAC conference records. As part of the NFL's Minority Internship Program, Berry has interned with six different NFL teams, including the Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, San Diego Chargers and Chicago Bears. Region 3: Matt Mitchell, Grand Valley State University Matt Mitchell was recently hired at Wisconsin on Jan. 23, 2023 as the coach of the outside linebackers and special teams units. Mitchell joined the UW staff after 13 years as the head coach at Grand Valley State. Coach Mitchell helped establish a winning culture during his time at Grand Valley State, with an impressive record of 117-31 (.790) over 12 seasons of action. He guided the Lakers to seven NCAA DII Playoff appearances, two NCAA DII National Semifinal appearances, three GLIAC Championships, three GLIAC North Division titles, and two undefeated regular seasons. Region 4: Todd Knight, Ouachita Baptist University Todd Knight has recently completed his 23rd season at Ouachita Baptist University and was named the 2023 AFCA president. Coach Knight is the longest-standing college head football coach in Arkansas. He has led the Tigers to 16 winning seasons, and is currently at the helm of 14 consecutive winning seasons, the longest current streak of any team in the state of Arkansas at any level. He has led the Tigers to six Great American Conference championships, five NCAA Division II playoff appearances, and four undefeated regular seasons. Region 5: Brandon Moore, Colorado School of Mines Brandon Moore was named the head coach of Mines Football on Jan. 31, 2022 after spending six years on staff building the Oredigger defense into one of the nation's top units. Moore's first year as head coach was historic as the Orediggers made their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II Championship Game. Mines won 13 consecutive games between September and December to get there, winning the program's second consecutive NCAA Super Region IV title and fourth consecutive RMAC championship along the way. Going 13-3, the Orediggers set a program record for wins and they completed just the third undefeated RMAC season (9-0) in the modern era. Coach Moore was named the NFFCC Colorado and RMAC Coach of the Year due to his success. The panelists discuss what they look for in a GA, how to be successful, and maintaining discipline through adversity. Bret Bielema recently completed his second season as the Head Coach of Illinois. Bielema arrived in Champaign with 24 years of collegiate coaching experience and a 12-year record of 97-58 as head coach at Wisconsin and Arkansas. While at Wisconsin, he led the Badgers to three Big Ten championships and six consecutive bowl games including two Rose Bowls. Coach Sean Lewis recently completed his fourth season as HC at Kent State and recently took the offensive coordinator job at Colorado. Lewis brings an extensive coaching résumé to Colorado after his time at Kent State and has been one of the fastest-rising coaches in the nation over the last decade. Ryan Riemedio completed his first season as the Head Coach at Mercyhurst and his 10th year on the Mercyhurst University football staff in 2022. In 2021, he was elevated to Assistant Head Coach and defensive coordinator while coaching the team's linebackers and continued his role as the program's strength and conditioning coordinator. Riemedio joined the Mercyhurst football coaching staff in 2012 as a graduate assistant working with tight ends, fullbacks and assisting with the offensive line. Dr. Alvin Parker completed his fifth season at Virginia Union University in 2022, and his 24th overall on the collegiate level. Dr. Alvin Parker got his start in coaching at Virginia Union in 1999 after he finished his playing time there. He served as the offensive coordinator and running backs coach at VUU until 2003. In 2004, Coach Parker was hired as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at Elizabeth City State University for where he spent 12 seasons. Julian Griffin currently serves as the running backs coach at the University of Texas at San Antonio. In 2021 coached Griffin coached C-USA Player of the Year, Sincere McCormick on the way to the school's first-ever conference championship title. Griffin was also selected to the 2022 AFCA 35 Under 35 Leadership Institute. Prior to UTSA, Griffin served as the offensive quality control assistant for two seasons at the University of Arkansas.

Buccaneers assistant head coach Harold Goodwin met with the media on Wednesday after the team returned to practice at the Advent Health Training Center in Tampa.

In this episode, Simi catches up with a legend in the League, Sean Desai, Associate Head Coach-Defense for the Seattle Seahawks.  Sean has over a decade of experience as a coach at the NFL and collegiate levels. When he became defensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears in 2021, he became the first Indian-American NFL coordinator in U.S. history.Sean joined the Bears in 2013, where he served on staff for 8 years, initially as a defensive quality control coach, before coaching safeties. Previously, he spent the 2012 season as the running backs coach and special teams coordinator at Boston College. In 2011, he served as Assistant Director of Football Operations at the University of Miami. And prior to this experience, he spent five seasons at Temple University first as a graduate assistant for the Owls' defensive/special teams and academics. He joined the Seahawks in early 2022. After graduating from Boston University, Sean earned a master's in higher and postsecondary education from Columbia University before moving onto Temple University where he earned his doctorate in educational administration. In this episode, Simi probes into Sean's unexpected academic path to coaching and how he thinks critically about representation in sports -- reflecting on a time when his own 4-year-old son asked if he could 'paint his skin white' to make it big in baseball. This week on Inside the Headset, we are featuring Trinity University's Assistant head coach, and the AFCA's D3 Assistant Coach of the Year, Coach Paul Michalak. Coach Michalak talks about both his and his family's football journey, shares what it is like recruiting at a non-scholarship, high academic performance university, and gives us insight into the advanced technology used to run Trinity's camps. Coach Paul Michalak is entering his 14th season at Trinity University, where he serves as the assistant head coach, defensive coordinator, camp coordinator, and linebackers coach. In 2021 coach Michalak was named he AFCA'S Division 3 Assistant Coach of the Year. The Trinity Tigers have experienced a great deal of success due to Coach Michalak's defense. Prior to coaching at Trinity Coach Michalak was a GA and then the defensive line coach at Carthage College in Wisconsin.
