As we reached Episode 30 of the CWP, James and I had a terrifically enjoyable chat with Andrew Dobson. Andrew is one of Canadian wargaming's rising stars, and is the proprietor of Dobbies Hobbies, a 3D printing factory licensed to produce a wide variety of models from a wide range of suppliers. We love Andrew's energy and his enthusiasm for the potential of 3D printing. Andrew also has an interest in Canadian military history, which explains our final march past. This interview was recorded in June, and we're sorry that it's taken a long time to get it to your ears. Andrew, we would have loved to go with your Sabbaton choice, Cliffs of Gallipoli, but we were worried about the copyright implications, so there's a link below. In this episode of the Epigenetics Podcast, we talked with Lothar Schermelleh from the University of Oxford about his work on advanced optical imaging in 3D nuclear organisation. The interview starts by Lothar Schermelleh sharing his groundbreaking work in understanding chromatin organization using super-resolution microscopy techniques. He then delves into his past experiments, including his publication on imaging chromatin domains and X chromosome inactivation. His work showcases the power of structured illumination microscopy in overcoming diffraction limits, revealing insights into nuclear organization and regulation. Lothar also discusses refining methods for labeling chromosome territories and replication domains, as well as exploring structural and functional nuclear organization using advanced microscopy techniques. They touch on the potential of AI in microscopy, the importance of quality control in imaging, and Lothar's grant proposal for developing artifact-free, super-resolution imaging under cryo conditions with adaptive optics. The conversation emphasizes the intersection of technology development and biological applications, highlighting the importance of addressing specific biological questions through innovative imaging approaches. Acquired by Mastercard in 2017, the UK's Vocalink manages the UK's Bacs payment system, ATM LINK switching platform, and the Faster Payments System, FPS. To make this more tangible, consider these statistics: Vocalink processes over 90% of UK salaries, more than 70% of household bills, 98% of state benefits, and powers 60,000 ATMs. Vocalink's influence goes beyond the UK, with technology that powers fast payments infrastructure in countries such as the US, Thailand, Sweden, the Philippines, Peru, and Saudi Arabia - just to name a few. Vocalink's origin story, which began in 1998, spurred payments modernization efforts worldwide. For this episode, we sat down with Gregor Dobbie, former CEO of Vocalink, to discuss what we can learn from Vocalink's journey and what the future holds for core payment systems.

If he managed to stay out of gaol and makes it to the White House, Donald Trump has proposed a flat 10% tariff on all goods coming into America. He's called it the Ring Around the Collar of America – which has led some to suggest the policy is a nasty stain that will be difficult to get out. But as phil Dobbie discovers, Trump has one supporter in the shape of Steve Keen. Steve talks from Hungary, where he is currently on assignment, suggesting this form of protectionism will be good for America. But will it come at the expense of GATT (the General Agreement on Trade and Tariffs). Could we be entering an era when all nations are imposing trade barriers and the prospect of free trade disappears. “I won't be shedding any crocodile tears over that,” says Steve. Listen in to see why Steve is a Trump supporter on this particular issue. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

This week, Drewby and Yergy go on location in their hometown to discuss the case of Albert Flick, a man in his 70's that a judge believed would "age out" of violent behavior towards women. After doing 21 years for stabbing his wife to death in front of her daughter in the 70's, and a subsequent string of violent attacks against women in the early aught, Albert Flick was let loose on the streets of Lewiston, only to do it all over again. Will Dobbie is pastor of Emmanuel Church of Knoxville, Tennessee, and author of From Everlasting to Everlasting: Every Believer's Biography. The book is a 30-Day devotional, broken into five Acts, walking the reader through the theological aspects of salvation from eternity past to eternity future, with practical application in between. Outline of the Discussion Will used the pandemic lockdowns as an opportunity to put the rich doctrinal truths of the Bible that he had been teaching as a pastor in London into book form. The book is a 30-day devotional, which explores the central truths of Biblical salvation and Christian life. The book is broken down into five Acts. The book is built upon the spine of the ordo solutus (logical order of salvation.) Classically, the ordo solutus is defined as: election, calling, regeneration, conversion, justification, reconciliation, sanctification, perseverance, and glorification. As we bounce around a little within the book, we talk about Will's favorite part: the New Creation. He came up with the "Seven P's." which begin with the supreme characteristic: the Presence of God. From that will bring (2) Perfect joy and beauty, (3) Physical bodies, (4) Personal relationships, (5) Privileged responsibilities, (6) Practical service, and (7) Perpetual time. Day 26 is about death. Death is unnatural. Death is inevitable. Death is painful. Death is impotent to the believer. On the atonement. Although the new creation will be perfect, Jesus will retain the scars from the cross on his hands. The atonement was penal (a penalty) and substitutionary (Jesus took the penalty in our place.) Atonement is sometimes described as at-one-ment, that it brings us to be at one with God. The atonement has four core truths within it: propitiation, justification, redemption, and adoption. Propitiation is God satisfying His wrath against us. An analogy is a lightning rod. Once God's wrath is released, it needs a place to go, and for us the Cross is that place. Justification is God's declaring us righteous through Christ. It is a legal distinction.
