Japan-born Soichi Kawabata brings 26 years of traditional and hyper-focused knife-wielding skills to South Yarra's Yakikami in its Wagyu Omakase offering. Growing up in Fukuako – a coastal city known for its seafood culture, Soichi spent his younger years on fishing trips with his father. Here, the pair would catch different types of fish and bring them back to the family to share, and create something special.  To respect and identify quality produce was something he was taught on these trips, igniting Soichi's love affair with cooking and confirming his destiny lay within the walls of a kitchen.   Soichi began his professional career under Mr Fukuuako where he spent the next five years building a strong and refined foundation of haute Japanese cuisine. The high standard of this position, along with his unwavering work ethic saw him quickly move up the ranks. Before leaving, Soichi obtained his certificate in Fugu – a sought-after licence allowing one to prepare and serve the Japanese delicacy, Fugu (pufferfish). Fascinated with the cultural identity of Australia, Soichi decided to widen his culinary journey and moved in 2005 where he found himself at Neil White's Pure South. Further advancing his techniques and learning what it took to create a full dining experience Soichi spent many years learning and familiarising himself with Australian produce and a new customer palette. Soichi has cemented himself as an expert in the Japanese culinary world with a passion and love for Japanese cuisine. With a focus on customer experience, guests can expect to learn expert tips during their Wagyu Omakase experience every time they sit at Soichi's counter.

Abstract of the talk… AHOY is a release manager for Kubernetes, fully open source. Bio… I thought, this is easier explained, in, interpretive rap... Look, if you had one shot, one opportunity To fix everything that was ever broke In one deployment Would you rebuild it, or just let it fail? Yo His palms are sweaty, config weak, server load is heavy There's vomit on this keyboard already, Kubernetes He's nervous, but the control plane says Nodes are ready Fork Bomb, but he keeps on forgetting Commands he wrote down, to restart all the pods He opens up Wikis, but the page won't load out Server's chokin now, everybody's phoning now. Release window runs out, times up, over bloaw! Roll back to the previous, oh this is grievous Oh there goes docker, it's borked! He's mad cause K8 don't, downgrade that easily? No He won't have it, he knows, manual deploys back's on the ropes It don't' matter He's dope, he knows that, but he broke He's whole Openstack So when he goes back to his mobile app, that's when it's Back to the Trello Board yo, this whole Agile thing sux He better go capture the screen logs next time using tmux You better lose yourself in this DevOps, the SecOps You own it, you better never let it go Ho! You only get one shot, do not miss your change to Window This opportunity comes once in a weeks time Yo! So that is what I do on a typical day. For those who want the more traditional summary.... Open source consultant specializing in enterprise grade solutions based on open source software and open source integration. Worked with multiple DevOps teams inside numerous South Africa companies, to help bring these worlds together. Then watching the worlds explode. Sometimes for the good, sometimes for the bad. Currently a strong focus on Kubernetes. And then all the usual toppings, GitOps, CI/CD tooling, automation, test-driven infrastructure, and everything cloud native. Key take-aways from the talk… It automatically incorporates GitOps, auto-generation of Helm charts, all stored on Git.

Welcome back to my chat with Pete Jenson and Neil White in which we consider if Real Madrid's Three-peat side are underrated. As we heard in part one, certainly Real's run-up to the first final was underwhelming and they had to take city rivals Atlético to penalties. But the 4-1 thrashing of Juve and then the beating of Liverpool surely deserve more credit. After all, this is a team which featured the likes of Isco, Benzema, Casemiro, Modric and Kroos, as well as talisman Cristiano Ronaldo. Having Ronaldo was like having a goal start, and it is a distinct possibility that he himself was underrated and misunderstood. Just ask any of his team-mates. Plus Steven MacLean could be banned for something that the panel all find objectively funny. Things are happening at Kilmarnock who go second in the Premiership, just over a year after being bottom of the table. But Eamonn Brophy’s secret behind his moniker of ‘The Wolf’ is one step closer to unravelling. There’s more misery for St Mirren, even if St Johnstone suck at spot-kicks. The international break is mercifully over and one of the most exciting leagues in Europe is back. Andrew Slaven, JJ Bull and Anthony Joseph review all the action from the Premiership. We head to the mining heartlands of Fife where former Scotland and Rangers captain Barry Ferguson is now manager of Kelty Hearts in the Lowland League. Lower league expert Tell Him He’s Pele informs us about Kelty’s ambitions and Ferguson’s anger management. His memoir, In the Sanctuary of Outcasts (Morrow/HarperCollins), about the year he lived with the last victims of leprosy in the continental United States, was described by Publisher’s Weekly as “Brisk, ironic, perceptive . . . White’s introspective memoir puts a magnifying glass to a flawed life, revealing that all of life is to be savored and respected.” Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Olen Butler added, “At once surreal and grittily naturalistic, funny and poignant, White’s tale is fascinating and full of universal resonance.” In the Sanctuary of Outcasts was a finalist in the 2010 Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance “Book of the Year” award. In 2010, White won the Outstanding Author of the Year from the Southern Library Association. I must confess that it wasn’t until recently that I dedicated a focus on specifying the outcomes I desire my masculine leadership to produce in my family – and, specifically, in the lives of my kids. In fact, it wasn’t until after reading Neil White’s book, A Father’s Mission: Strong Fatherhood in Our Modern Times, that my desire to be a good father was transformed into a mission. Neil joins me on the podcast today to discuss the mission of fatherhood and how father’s today must execute this mission if they’re to be successful. Neil white is the owner of ThisDadDoes.com, a website that I would dare to describe as a “dad blog” for bold, masculine men. Neil is a husband and father pursuing his purpose of helping other dads find their identities as those called to be the masculine leaders of their families. He gives this calling the seriousness it deserves in his own life, because he understands that it’s more than just a responsibility. It’s a mission. And it’s one that Neil has distilled down into 6 pillars of successful fatherhood. In today’s podcast, Neil and I discuss what these pillars are, why they’re indispensable for modern fathers, and how to apply them with focused intention to ensure the success of our families in today’s demanding, fast-paced world. If you’re a father, or hope to be one someday, you’ll want to be sure to listen in – and be ready to take action. Why aren't there any popular Muslim Dad Blogs? Maybe there are, but I sure as hell haven't seen them. Technically this is a good thing because it means the dads are out earning a living to provide for their families. It's also a bad thing because this means the online Islamic discourse is dominated by women and, sadly, Feminists at that. You may have also noticed, if you read them, the Dad Blogs which do exist read like they were written by women or effeminate men. Which brings me to my guest, Neil white, who is the founder of This Dad Does, a blog for "dads who do more." I enjoy reading him because his writing is masculine and he has traditional ideas about fatherhood. So, I thought it would be a good idea to have him on because: I haven't written or podcasted about fatherhood before This Dad Does fits with our theme here at Becoming the Alpha Muslim. Topics discussed Who is Neil White? The virtue of having daughters in Islam Why did Neil start This Dad Does? What sort of topics does Neil write about? Blogging side-discussion Why does every dad blog sound like it's been written by a huge fag? Dad Blogs as a blank canvas for Advertising and PR agencies Why are mainstream media and popular culture trying so hard to emasculate and feminize fathers?
