The season is over, the dust is settling and it's a busy podcast as Niall and Marley digest it all. Chelsea won the champions league shootout at the City Ground, although Gary Neville wasn't there to see it, as Levi Colwill's goal proved the difference to send the Blues into Europe's premier competition. Aston Villa missed out on a second consecutive appearance in the same competition though, as a controversial call in their game against Man United saw Morgan Rogers' goal chalked out. Is there a silver lining for the Villans though? Elsewhere, Spurs lost again, Newcastle rode their luck and we finally discuss the worst Europa League final ever that took place last week. Despite the monumental achievement of European football, there was a palpable sense of disappointment at the City Ground as the Reds failed to qualify for the Champions' League, even though other results went the way that we needed them to. In truth, Chelsea had the extra nous to get over the line, and Chris Wood missed two very preventable chances in a match where neither keeper was particularly tested. Steven Toplis and Tom Newton pick themselves up to analyse the game and we are joined by Nick from That Chelsea Podcast for a view from the opposition. We'll be back next week with our end of season Football Terrorists show. This season has been somewhat underwhelming by EPL standards, however, there are still stakes attached to tomorrow's final day, namely centring around the three undecided Champions League spots. Angelos Marinakis made himself the centre of attention on an action packed weekend of Premier League action, storming onto the pitch at Nottingham Forest's City Ground after late drama saw Nuno Espirito Santo's side drop points against Leicester. Elsewhere, Southampton finally got past Derby County's miserable record of 11 points by drawing against Manchester City, but did the scenes from the club go too far? In other news, Newcastle beat Chelsea to all but secure Champions League football, Arsenal and Liverpool played out a 2-2 draw and there was more misery for Spurs and Man United as they lost again. This week on Undr The Cosh, we've got a guest with one of the roughest upbringings we've ever heard. Charlie Oatway was raised in a family on the run from the police, under protection from the Kray twins. Despite being surrounded by crime, Charlie managed to drag himself out of that life and carve out a career in football. But it wasn't without setbacks. He had his own stint in prison, which nearly ended his football career, if it weren't for a lucky encounter with a guard who just happened to have played under Micky Adams. Fast forward to his time at Brighton, Charlie shares the chaos: starting a 40-man brawl, stealing Razor Ruddock's car, the infamous D-baggings, and delivering one of the best impressions we've ever heard. After retirement, Charlie moved into football coaching, working alongside Gus Poyet at Sunderland, Real Betis, and Shanghai Shenhua, where he crossed paths with Carlos Tevez. And if you thought it was wild scenes at the City Ground last weekend, wait until you hear about the time Charlie was coaching for POAK and the Greek chairman ran onto the pitch with a gun. We discuss the pros and cons of including players like Nicolas Dominguez, who's been linked with a move to Roma, or even a surprise name from Nuno's squad. With Forest's strong Brazilian contingent—Murillo, Morato, Danilo, and Carlos Miguel—Luiz could feel right at home, but at what cost to the current roster? After defeat at Nottingham Forest, David Mooney is joined by Adam Carter from StatCity.co.uk and Mark Critchley from The Athletic to discuss Manchester City's position in the battle for the Champions League places. Focusing on the match at the City Ground, they look at the question of creativity from wide areas and City's chance-creation, given they had a lot of the ball and not a lot to show for it. With those dropped points, they discuss what it will take between now and May to qualify for next season's top European competition. Brighton are the visitors to the Etihad on Saturday, looking for their first ever league double over City... How can Pep Guardiola's side stop that from happening and stop another team in the top four (or five) race from going ahead in the table? Ryan Adsett from Talk Seagulls explains what to expect from the away side, too. Tickets are again in the spotlight, following the 1894 Group's huge survey of fans on ticketing issues - and there's also the retirement of Alvaro Negredo to consider. ========== To get more podcasts or to listen without the ads, join our Patreon.
