Mishelle describes her brother Collin as a vibrant little boy who loved to joke around and make people laugh. All of that changed, seemingly overnight. Sabrina and Mishelle walk Andrea through their memory of the timeline of Collin's symptoms, and his eventual diagnosis with NMO (Neuromyelitis Optica). This recounting of events exposes some discrepancies in the family's memory and Lisa's public story, as well as a rapid escalation in the medication given to Collin. We're introduced to Lisa's blog on CaringBridge, where she kept a detailed account of Collin's medical journey. She quickly begins referring to NMO as a fatal disease, even mentioning the possibility of hospice care. However, this portrayal is challenged by a pediatric neuroimmunologist we'll refer to as Dr. K, who specializes in NMO. Dr. K offers a clear explanation of what Neuromyelitis Optica is, the diagnostic criteria, and just how rare the condition is—particularly in children. As suspicions grow within their tight-knit community and the family's financial support runs dry, the McDaniels relocate to Alabama to seek care from NMO expert Dr. Jayne Ness. *** Andrea's August 1st event with Gregg Olsen: https://www.libertybaybooks.com/event/west-sound-crime-con-2025-local-authors-gregg-olsen-and-andrea-dunlop Order Andrea's new book The Mother Next Door: Medicine, Deception, and Munchausen by Proxy. Today on Motherish, we're honored to share the story of Maria Aleandra—a woman whose strength, resilience, and deep love are nothing short of inspiring. As a full-time caretaker to both her young child and her husband, who is living with ALS, Maria opens up about what it means to hold a family together through unimaginable challenges. This conversation is raw, moving, and full of truth. We talk about the emotional toll of caregiving, the quiet sacrifices, the unexpected moments of grace, and how she continues to find light even in the darkest seasons. It's a powerful reminder that motherhood isn't always soft and sweet—it's often fierce, messy, and deeply rooted in love.

The latest Manx side we're taking a look ahead of the 2025 Island Games is one that has its message very clear... they're going for gold in Orkney.Having been crowned champions in Gotland in 2017, the Isle of Man men's football team had a disappointing campaign in 2023 in Guernsey by their standards, finishing ninth.Caretaker player/manager Chris Bass jnr. sat down with us recently to explain why - above all else - he believes his squad should settle for nothing less than the top prize this summer:

This is not just a story about a lovable half-giant. It is a story about the monsters society teaches us to see—and the people we discard because they fit that image. In this episode of Critical Magic Theory, Professor Julian Wamble unpacks the complicated legacy of Rubeus Hagrid, part giant, full heart, and perhaps the most beloved yet overlooked character in the series. We follow Hagrid through the lens of his contradictions: too old to be their friend, too kind to be safe, too visible to ever truly belong.Drawing on survey responses and the brilliant minds of some of the Chronic Overthinkers, we explore whether Hagrid is a good teacher, a good friend, and a good Gryffindor. But most powerfully, we reframe Hagrid not just as a gentle presence, but as a case study in how society scapegoats those whose bodies do not conform to the norms of safety and power.A special thanks to Mayelin and Callie for joining the ranks of our Patreon Deep Divers
Send us a textIn this episode of School Gardens with Ease, Leila shares real stories from Toronto schools where well-meaning but misinformed caretakers accidentally damaged school gardens—from mowing over fruit trees to refusing to maintain grass paths. These challenges are more common than you might think in school gardening—and there's an easy solution.Sheet mulching. This simple Permaculture technique not only keeps grass out of garden paths and beds, but it also reduces maintenance, prevents damage, requires no permanent structures (read: no school board approvals!), and turns a common conflict into a collaborative, student-led learning experience.Leila walks you through how to sheet mulch with your students using just cardboard, water, and wood mulch—while explaining why this method is the perfect way to keep your garden thriving and your caretaker happy (or at least neutral

In this deeply personal episode, we explore one of midlife's most powerful transformations: letting go of the woman you thought you had to be to become the woman you actually are. We're talking about the personas we've worn for protection—the Good Girl, the Over-Achiever, the Caretaker, the Chameleon, and the "Always Fine" Woman. Then we dive into the signs that these masks no longer fit, examine the real fears behind our performances, and explore practical strategies for living authentically. This episode offers both permission and practical tools to stop pretending and start being real. Perfect for any midlife woman who's tired of performing and ready to come home to herself.Send a Text Message :)

St. Louis CITY SC faced a tough defeat at the hands of the Portland Timbers, losing 2-1 at Providence Park. Despite outshooting the Timbers nine to five in the first half, CITY SC's hard work was rewarded when Akil Watts scored his first career MLS goal in the 50th minute. However, Portland equalized shortly after, and David Ayala sealed the victory in second-half stoppage time.Brendan McSorley made his first MLS appearance for CITY SC, marking the first time they have failed to pick up at least one point at Providence Park since 2023. Caretaker manager David Critchley praised the team's back four for their defensive efforts, noting that they had been creating more chances and playing more strategically under his tutelage. The team's recent performances under Critchley have been encouraging, with an increase in possession and goal scoring opportunities. As CITY SC prepares to face the LA Galaxy next on June 14, the team is optimistic about their future, with Critchley emphasizing the importance of staying positive and excited about their progress. The match was marked by several yellow cards, including one for Antony of the Timbers. The loss underscores the challenges faced by CITY SC under Critchley, but the team remains committed to their strategy and is poised for future success. Do you dream of a love that feels warm, secure, and deeply caring—one that's rooted in loyalty, kindness, and the quiet joys of everyday life? If so, you may be the Caretaker LoveType (ISFJ on the Myers-Briggs personality test), the devoted nurturer who cherishes emotional intimacy and harmonious relationships. On our Love University podcast, we explored the distinctive romantic needs and strengths of the Caretaker—one of the most caring love personality styles from my classic book, LoveTypes (lovetype.com). Here's what we discovered: As a Caretaker, you approach life with a generous heart, exceptional empathy, and strong devotion, making you a compassionate and dependable partner. You thrive in relationships that offer emotional closeness, stability, and a shared appreciation for cozy routines. For you, love means building a sanctuary—a warm, comforting home filled with thoughtful gestures, heartfelt conversations, and small acts of kindness that deepen bonds over time. Whether preparing a favorite meal, remembering special occasions, or creating welcoming traditions, you find immense joy in giving love through steady and practical care. However, your giving nature may sometimes lead you to put your own needs last, causing you to feel emotionally drained or underappreciated. Fortunately, your innate sensitivity often help you gently communicate your needs, restoring balance and nurturing mutual respect. Your ability to tune into your partner's emotional landscape and offer unwavering support creates lasting bonds of trust and affection. To attract and cultivate your ideal partnership, consider these helpful pointers: Express Your Needs Clearly: Because you naturally focus on others' happiness, you might downplay your own emotional desires. Openly sharing your feelings and needs helps your partner recognize how best to care for you in return, creating a balanced and fulfilling relationship. Find a Partner Who Appreciates Stability: Seek someone who values consistency, loyalty, and heartfelt connection as much as you do. Together, you'll create a harmonious home that honors both your emotional depth and shared values. Balance Giving and Receiving: Though giving nurtures your soul, it's equally important to graciously accept love, appreciation, and support from your partner. Learning to comfortably receive strengthens intimacy and mutual understanding. Honor Your Quiet Strength: Celebrate your natural talents—such as organizing, empathizing, and quietly supporting—without feeling pressure to become someone else. Your gentle strength is deeply attractive to partners who seek genuine, lasting love. Ultimately, the key to finding lasting happiness as a Caretaker is recognizing your remarkable capacity for nurturing love, while ensuring that your own emotional well-being is also prioritized. When you build your cozy home with someone who honors your warmth and devotion, you'll experience the quiet joy and deep connection you've always desired. With the right partner, you'll find that love isn't merely about caring for each other—it's about feeling equally cherished, supported, and at home together.

Melody Wilding discusses her book "Managing Up," explaining how employees can effectively navigate relationships with those in power. She covers critical conversations about alignment, understanding workplace communication styles, setting boundaries, giving upward feedback, and leaving jobs gracefully. Wilding emphasizes these skills are essential in today's workplace where manager relationships significantly impact mental health and career advancement. TAKEAWAYS Alignment is fundamental for success - Having clear conversations about priorities and expectations with managers helps ensure you're focusing on work that matters to both your boss and the organization. Understanding communication styles improves effectiveness - Recognizing the four workplace styles (Commander, Cheerleader, Caretaker, and Controller) allows you to frame messages in ways that resonate with different personality types. Setting boundaries requires strategic approaches - Learning to say no respectfully involves understanding your "pushback power" and using techniques like the "trade-off approach" and the "conditional yes" to maintain work-life balance. This week on The Tarot Diagnosis Podcast I'm exploring a delicate identity that many people carry without ever naming: the wounded caretaker. Inspired by a social media trend that says, “I probably just needed a hug, so I became a therapist,” this episode takes a deep dive into the lifelong emotional patterns that develop when we're asked to care for others before we're ready…and before we've been cared for ourselves. In this episode, I unpack the concept of parentification - when a child is placed in the role of caretaker, whether emotionally or physically, and what that does to their developing sense of self. Through the archetype of the Queen of Pentacles, we examine how this card (often celebrated for her nurturing energy) can also hold shadow traits of burnout, over-functioning, and self-neglect. I explore how tarot archetypes like the Ten of Wands, Page of Cups, Six of Pentacles, The Devil, and The Star offer a rich map for understanding the cycle of exhaustion, grief, and hidden hopes of those who were taught to meet everyone else's needs and neglect their own. I also bring in psychological research and frameworks like Internal Family Systems (IFS) and attachment theory to illustrate how the identity of the helper often masks a quiet desperation to be held, seen, and nurtured. This episode is dedicated to those of you who have always been the “strong one,” the “go-to” person, or the “emotional rock” and who might be quietly wondering: But when will someone take care of me? And just a quick note before we dive in: the phrase “we're all wounded healers” is often attributed to Carl Jung, who did explore the idea that healing often stems from our own pain. That said, the exact quote has been credited to several different folks over time. The first time I heard it was back in 2009, when I was taking classes to become a certified domestic violence counselor, and honestly, it was one of the most validating phrases I had ever heard. It gave me permission to keep moving forward in the healing profession, knowing that I didn't need to be fully healed to help others. That nuance really sits at the heart of today's conversation. ✨ If you've ever felt resentful after giving too much, struggled to ask for help, or found your sense of worth tangled up in how useful you are to others, this episode will speak directly to that wound. I also offer journal prompts, card pulls, and strategies to help you begin the healing process…so you can learn to care for yourself with the same devotion you've shown others.
