All last week and all this week we're in the throes of the Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival 2020! The 15th festival has been a showcase of some amazing talent with both new acts and returning acts. One of the returning acts is Girl Brain from Edmonton. This awesome troupe composed of Alyson Dicey, Ellie Heath and Caley Suliak wowed audiences from the mainstage of Comedy Bar on Friday and Saturday night. I reached out to them and asked if there was any album they'd like to chat about while in town. They suggested Mike Birbiglia's Sleepwalk With Me, an album I was very familiar with having first heard it as part of an episode of This American Life. I had the pleasure of sitting with Second City and Sketchersons alumnus Brandon Hackett, Brandon had previously joined us on our Saturday Night Live album episode from the Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival. Recorded live at the Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival sit down with Robin Duke of Second City, SCTV, Saturday Night Live and Women Fully Clothed, Kerri Donaldson and Allie Entwistle of Brunch Comedy and their podcast You've Got Brunch as well as Brandon Hackett of Second City and The Sketchersons to talk about the 1976 cast recording of The Not Ready For Prime Time Players performing in season 1 and 2 of Saturday Night Live. This historic album is an artifact of sketches gathered when envelopes were being pushed and formats were being established. In the album you can start to hear the familiar patter of the Weekend Update desk segment but also sketches that would never make their way to air today. Our amazing panel bring a unique perspective of both life long fans and former cast members to this stellar discussion.

The Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival is underway and Jason had the pleasure of sitting down with artists during a brunch gathering of sketch comedians. Parker & Seville is an award-winning sketch duo from Toronto. Previous winners of the Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival's "Sketchiest Sketch Troupe" Award. They got their start in 2007 as a vaudeville act, performing Abbot and Costello-like routines before expanding their act to include a variety of different characters. Dave Barclay (Parker) and Matt Kowall (Seville) met at Humber College in 2005 in the Comedy Writing and Performance Program. A few months later they wrote their first sketch together, “Grade Two Boys News”, and have been collaborating ever since. So much so that after I sat down with the frontman of Grand Analog following their set at Ice Jam Music Festival, he was telling me about heading to Toronto to literally tell a story on stage at the Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival.
