Send us a Text Message.Podcasting pioneer Jimmy Pardo hosts the award-winning podcast, Never Not Funny. But he also puts his name behind a lot of good things. Witness his annual Pardcast-a-Thon, which provided nine hours of laughs from Sarah Silverman, Patton Oswalt, Dave Holmes, Jon Cryer and numerous others -- INCLUDING DAVID FOSTER -- raising over $125 thousand dollars for charity in the process. For $25 you can purchase an archive of this year's performances and if you like to laugh, we highly recommend that.Jimmy is also a big fan of '80s AOR music and the only rock band with horns that you need to have in your life, Chicago. Which means that when we needed a friend to help us talk about Chicago 17 in honor of its 40th anniversary, Jimmy came right over to "Stay the Night." Okay, wait. We're taking that last part back. Here's what we can promise about today's edition of the podcast: You will hear three guys talking for more than an hour about Chicago 17 -- before and beyond -- making obscure band/Peter Cetera references and other things we can't remember now that it's been several days since we recorded this. Short version: you will probably enjoy this. Thanks to Jimmy as always for hanging out with us. Flashback Episode of The Dadlands Podcast with Jamie KalerThis Week's Guest: Jimmy PardoWhat happens when two comedians, shaped by a shared Catholic upbringing, delve into the intricate world of parenting? Comedian Jimmy Pardo of the Never Not Funny podcast joins Jamie Kaler for a laughter-filled conversation that traverses their humorous pasts to the sobering realities of today's cancel culture. They take a trip down memory lane, reminiscing on their adventures in grade school and discussing how the names Jamie and Stacy evolved to become popular for boys.Their discourse takes a serious turn as they grapple with the impact of cancel culture on the comedy craft and, more importantly, on our children growing up in the social media era. They share their fears, hopes, and the strategies they employ as parents to help our kids navigate this complex landscape. The responsibility of looking after our aging parents is a topic we can't ignore, and they offer their insights, stemming from personal experiences. They then embark on a candid chat about the influence of their Catholic background on their views regarding body awareness and discussing private parts with our children. Our sexual escapades, underwear stories, and the dynamics of relationships form a considerable part of their exchange. The conversation reaches its peak as they ponder on societal privilege, parental responsibility, and the role of reading in giving our kids a head-start in life. A regular performer in comedy clubs, casinos, and theaters all over the country, Pat has been a choice opener for Sebastian Maniscalco, Tom Segura, and Dan Cummins. He has captivated audiences with anecdotes about the conflict inherent in meshing the two disparate high school identities of varsity wrestler and band geek. Greg was also a West Point Cadet, where he distinguished himself by amassing an impressive tally of demerits and endless hours of pointless marching. Phil and David follow their special Oscar Week episode with Jimmy Kimmel with this never not funny "Lunch" with another hilarious Jimmy -- their friend Jimmy Pardo who has hosted both of them on his own popular and long standing podcast called "Never Not Funny." Phil and David discuss how they each first came to know Jimmy, then seek some advice about keeping a podcast alive and well. Jimmy tells a great horror story about his worst moment as a stand up comedian, working for a record company and nearly opening for Elton John, and his Pardcast-A-Thon charity event to benefit Smile Train. Jimmy also shares the less than wild story about getting cut out of the movie "Dreamgirls," while David tells his own tale about getting cut out of the movie "Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping," while producer Will Sterling explains what it felt like to get edited out of an episode of "This Is Us." Phil then offers his power producer perspective and tries to make everyone feel better. All this and tasty salads and sandwiches from Oui Melrose. Podcasting pioneer, funny guy and fellow music nerd Jimmy Pardo (Never Not Funny, The Tonight Show, Conan O'Brien) is our guest to discuss Peter Cetera's third solo album, One More Story.A fellow lifelong Chicago fan, Jimmy has seen the band a zillion times and appeared in the documentary film, Now More Than Ever: The History of Chicago. He also wrote liner notes (with fellow Record Player guest David Wild) for the 2021 box set, Chicago at Carnegie Hall Complete. But his real credentials for being on this episode are that he once spent actual time writing up setlists for Peter Cetera that he did not actually deliver to Peter Cetera. In all seriousness, we had so much fun discussing Peter Cetera and all things Chicago with Jimmy for this episode. We'll look forward to speaking with him again soon to continue our music nerd session.Until that happens, check out Never Not Funny and for a whole bunch of music nerdery, Jimmy's Records and Tapes.Show notes for this episode can be found here.Join our Record Club and get additional content related to this and other episodes as well as a lot of other bonus fun. Legendary rock scribe David Wild joins Matt and Jeff to discuss Ringo Starr's Time Takes Time on the brink of the album's 30th anniversary. But that's not all -- David came armed with audio from Ringo Starr and additional audio of a conversation he had with Don Was to revisit Don's experience as one of the producers on Time Takes Time. While David's wife just wants him to listen to more Rick Springfield (that's our flimsy tease for one of the subjects of this episode), we somehow convinced him to tell us about working with Ringo on the new book, Lifted. The book is available now in two different editions, with profits benefiting The Lotus Foundation charity.David has also teamed up with Phil Rosenthal (Everybody Loves Raymond) for the forthcoming podcast, Naked Lunch. He shares plenty of details on that exciting endeavor as well.No worries, he tells plenty of rock and roll war stories also. We had so much fun chatting with David and we're already plotting to get him back.Join the Record Club for additional content related to all of our episodes, including this one. Dan Ram is an accidental event master of ceremonies, has given TEDx talks 5 times and can even show you how to get yourself doing the same thing as a coach. He has met celebrities of all sorts, including being on-stage with Barak Obama, who actually remembered his name even if Dan mispronounced his.
Jimmy Pardo is a world renowned comic who has hosted the "Never Not Funny" podcast for almost 14 years. He stopped by to point his laser sharp wit at the absurdity of parenting in today's world and his podcast name is insanely accurate. He takes aim at celebrity children, bullying, getting pregnant, his mother's notes on his comedy, and apparently, "crabs". He's a great dad and a ridiculously funny guy. Always a great guest, he is truly never not funny. Enjoy. The DadLands Never Not Funny
Guys, let's be real: stand up comedian and legendary "Never Not Funny" host Jimmy Pardo had the quintessential 80's adolescence. The man worked at a RECORD STORE in the MALL in the SUBURBS of Chicago fer chrissakes. He basically lived Fast Times at Ridgemont High! Luckily he joined us on the Soft Spot to tell us about it. Did he masturbate to Phoebe Cates? We didn't ask. But he did drive a Pontiac Fiero, so he probably didn't have to (wink wink). He's Got to Be Somebody's Baby, he's so fine. Jimmy Pardo (@jimmypardo, Never Not Funny) and April Richardson watch what is basically the Super Bowl of Saved by the Bell, the episode that even people unfamiliar with the show sort of know: That's right, it's the “I'm so excited, I'm so scared” ep, where Jessie gets addicted to pills in about five seconds.
Jimmy Pardo came to Earwolf to record Who Charted? and we couldn't let him leave without a good solid brain-picking on the world of podcasting. His show Never Not Funny played (and continues to play) such a important role in the growth and development of podcasting as an industry and the story of his career is beyond fascinating. Pardo fans, podcast hosts, potential entertainers and practically everyone else can find something inspiring in Jimmy's story. We hope you enjoy.
