Have an extra cup of coffee because you are going to need to be on your toes to keep up with this week's Legend, improv comedy superstar, as well as a a fine television actor, Ryan Stiles. Born in the US, Ryan was raised in Vancouver, BC and got his start doing standup and writing for the CBC when he was tapped for the British version of Whose Line is it Anyway. He was lured back to the US as a regular in the Drew Carey show, then what do you know -- Drew launches a US "Whose Line" with Ryan front and center in the cast. That show has also spawned successful improv tours by the cast which continue to this day. Ryan also had a long run as a regular on the Two and a Half Men sitcom, and in his spare time he founded and occasionally appears at an improv comedy theater and school in his home of Bellingham, Washington. As always find extra clips below and thanks for sharing our shows! Want more Ryan Stiles? Ryan is known for improv but this is a fun bit -- produced by the Second City in a film noir fashion. https://youtu.be/CpSXAO-N_qQ?si=wB6qeA8Neyl0AGQB Whose Line started in the UK and one of the fun games was Questions Only! (yes, you can speak only in questions). Here's the UK cast in action (also including Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood). https://youtu.be/JcDzy6IgIcg?si=9NZHEC3T8sLr0lFF On the Drew Carey show, Ryan played Lewis Kinski, a buddy of Drew's, who was known for having the lamest pickup lines in town. Here's a few to avoid!https://youtu.be/mzIYmvhyyDk?si=JJ3231qEynqn-GvK Ryan is a community-minded guy, living in Bellingham, Washington. After his Whose Line fame he set up an improv theater where he occasionally appears as in this parody of a late night talk show -- Bellingham T'nite! https://youtu.be/tEc0mBm1lRs?si=FYLKnVH6nkNabWxx

And we're back! After taking the last week off, Jean returns to the show and we heard all about her holiday celebrations. We also spoke with Colin Mochrie from "Whose Line Is It Anyway" about his upcoming live shows at the Pabst Theater & the Pablo Center. Lots of horrific news this morning, including updates on the terrorist attack in New Orleans, the Cybertruck explosion at the Trump hotel in Vegas, a shooting outside a nightclub in NY, and an update on the shooting in New Lisbon. In sports, we recapped yesterday's College Football Playoff bowl games, including the wild finish between Texas & Arizona State, and we took a look ahead at the rest of the upcoming bowl schedule. Also, the NBA came down hard on the Miami Heat & the Houston Rockets for their recent on-court dust-up. The new year has begun and if you're looking for some healthier eating options, maybe some delicious watercress? Apparently, it's the most nutrient-dense veggie out there. A new "Karen of the Day" is apparently a big fan of the movie "Titanic" and also really wants to drink some water. Cool story about a kid who had to have his spokes on his bike cut after his foot got stuck in them. And check out this ref who ate a few punches during a recent kickboxing match. Dude's got an IRON jaw! During today's "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a #FloridaScumbag who slammed a puppy to the floor, a #FloridaWoman who stole someone's credit cards & made a bunch of purchases, a possible Airbnb ban for Lily Phillips, and AI robots learning to do surgery by watching videos! On the Saturday September 21, 2024 edition of The Richard Crouse Show we meet Colin Mochrie actor, writer, producer and improvisational comedian, from the British and American versions of the improvisational TV show “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” In this interview we talk about improv, working with the late great Richard Simmons in one of the funniest improvised scenes ever and his new show, “Old Enough.” It's based on the hit Japanese show of the same name and it follows kids (3-6 years old) as they head out by themselves and get their first taste of independence by running everyday errands for their parents. You can see the show on TVO and it is available to stream across Canada on the TVOkids streaming app and TVOkids.com. Then, we'll meet musician and songwriter Diane Tell. From beginning her musical career at the age of 6, she has had many, many hits in Quebec, France and worldwide since being discovered by Radio Canada as she sang in the streets of Montreal during the Olympic Games. Today she joins me from her home in Switzerland to talk about songwriting, her life and being inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame this month.

Our Summer Throwback series continues. Is an ambivert a pervert? No, it's most of us! Maybe we are all just less funny versions of Colin Mochrie, who reveals he is, of course, an ambivert, someone who feels comfortable in social situations but also really enjoys time alone. You may know Colin as an extrovert, but he's often really introverted. He says he's afraid his neighbours might think he's a dick, when he's really just shy. Colin is a famous improv guy, he was on the U.K. and U.S. versions of “Whose Line is it Anyway” for decades. He is now doing big shows in L.A. with a hypnotist. He tells us why “Hyprov” is a perfect mix for improv. He also performs “Scared Scriptless” with comedian Brad Sherwood. His wife, Deb McGrath, who he met at Toronto's Second City, is also an improv pro. She is an extrovert! He says they just hide away in different corners of the house when the laughs run out. 300 episodes after her first appearance on the YVR Screen Scene Podcast, actress Veena Sood returns to talk about her three seasons (soon to be four!) playing cool mama Nisha on CTV's Children Ruin Everything, and going back to her improv roots in Colin Mochrie's Arts Club Reunion (which takes place July 19 and 20 at Vancouver's historic Stanley Industrial Alliance Theatre). Also: What impact is “wokeness” having on the comedy scene? Is the film and television industry actually, truly, and *really* diverse and inclusive? What's it like acting opposite Kim Coates (who played her season one boyfriend, Graham, on Children Ruin Everything)? And – most pressing of all, at least to Sabrina – does she still want to be a cowgirl?

Do you know what happens to the brain when we improvise? How does it differ from our brain activity during hypnosis? In this episode, Actor/Improvisor, Colin Mochrie will share his eye-opening experience when he collaborated with Dr. Charles Limb to unravel how the brain works during improv. Colin found himself improvising inside an MRI scanner for 1.5 hours, and the findings revealed a decrease in activity in the brain region responsible for self-criticism, coupled with an increase in creativity. Colin also shared that this is also the same thing that happens during hypnosis, part of the brain stops producing self-doubt and worry. Empower your mind to silence self-doubt, let your brain ignite the fire of possibility and propel you towards your greatest achievements. In this episode: Who we are as people is amplified during hypnosis. Colin learned from his debut on “Whose Line Is It Anyway” that he preferred taking action over doing nothing whatever the outcome may be. An artist is someone who is never content with what he/she is doing; you have to be curious about the world and other people. A little about Colin: ‘Colin Mochrie is an alumnus of Toronto's famous Second City comedy troupe. After nine years as a regular on the British improvisation series ”Whose Line Is It Anyway?'‘, he became a regular on the American version hosted by Drew Carey, which ran six years and is now being rebooted by the CW network. Colin was a cast member of CBC's ”This Hour Has 22 Minutes'‘ 2001- 2003. With his wife, Debra McGrath, he produced, wrote and starred in the CBC show ”Getting Along Famously” Currently, he is part of a very successful tour with “Whose Line” cast mate Brad Sherwood, performing a live improv show across North America. Canadian improv comedy icon Colin Mochrie has spent a heckuva lot of time in Vancouver, where he's a beloved alumnus of Vancouver TheatreSports and The Improv Centre. From March 6-8, Colin will return to The Improv Centre for five sold-out performances of An Evening with Colin Mochrie (which are evenings of improv comedy and not anything else; get your minds out of the gutter). Colin's extensive career includes Whose Line is it Anyway? on both sides of the Atlantic, two years in This Hour Has 22 Minutes, and improv tours criss-crossing the continent. In addition, Colin has used his place as a Canadian improv comedy icon to advocate for his daughter Kinley (who is Transgender) and for all Trans people. In this thoughtful – and, yes, occasionally funny – episode, Colin lays out his origin story and discusses the addictive nature of improv, Vancouver humour, comedy in our woke age, and how to be an effective ally to Trans people. Nikki and I attended the Hyprov Show last night. Hyprov is the combination of Hypnosis and Improv and is hosted by Improv super star Colin Mochrie (Who's line is it anyways) and amazing Hypnotist Asad Mecci. We were sitting in the front row and during the show Colin asked Nikki what she does for a living. Nikki told Colin that she creates a sleep meditation podcast and with that information, Colin and one of his hypnotized volunteers created a completely improvised song about our sleep meditations. We thought this was worth sharing and we hope you enjoy the clip.
