Cuban American writer Tita Ramírez offers a landscape that intertwines the mother–daughter relationship, family secrets, love, and the stereotypes that shape our identities—all in dialogue with the telenovela Abismos de pasión. Tell It to Me Singing (Scribner, 2024) is the novel in which she tells the story of Mónica and her mother. The book began as a short story and grew into a novel that showcases the narrative talent of this writer based in the U.S. South. Her work has appeared in publications such as Literary Hub, The Normal School, and Black Warrior Review. We spoke with her in both English and Spanish as we prepared for our visit to North Carolina for a great panel at the Sheppard Library.

PDGA #83, she first discovered the game in 1975 at the world's very first disc golf course in Pasadena, and she hasn't stopped throwing since. A two-time World Champion and seven-time Major winner, Tita now dedicates much of her energy to growing the sport worldwide, having led women's clinics in Mexico, Colombia, and Canada, and already planning to help coordinate community programs in Rome next year. She plays across age-protected and open divisions, proving that at 65, the competitive spirit is ageless. Beyond tournaments, Tita champions inclusivity and connection, creating spaces where women of all ages and skill levels feel welcome. Recognized as PDGA's 2024 Volunteer of the Year, she continues to inspire new generations to discover the joy of flight and the community of disc golf.
