People who work television's morning shift could be forgiven for being a tad grumpy. That's never the case with Tim Bolen, who recently made the leap from co-hosting Morning Live on Hamilton's CHCH to pairing with Dina Pugliese on Citytv's national franchise Breakfast Television.Add living in Toronto when he was on TV in Hamilton and now living in Hamilton and inching through traffic hell in Toronto and you have basically the seven tasks of Hercules. Or is it a genius move since he's basically commuting to work in the dead of night? In any event, Bolen seems to bound into work, throwing himself into community events coverage and apron-ing up for hours of egg scrambling. Start your day with Tim and Dina and listen now as he wakes things up as my guest on brioux.tv: the podcast.

2024 is rapidly coming to an end, and to look back on a busy year in sports, Donnovan brings on Breakfast Television's Sid Seixeiro to put a few items in perspective. They take a spin around each major North American league, and debate who is currently the best QB in the NFL, the NBA seemingly suffering from a lack of compelling stars, the NHL marching towards best-on-best once again, and MLB handing out gargantuan contracts in the middle of their off-season. Plus, they chat about Canada Soccer and get into the many (many) college football bowl games. James Mirtle, senior writer for The Athletic, joins JD to discuss the parity of the NHL regular season, Toronto's moral victories, lessons from the Leafs' latest stretch, Nick Robertson's stock, William Nylander's success, Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner's future contract, Morgan Rielly's season so far, and the state of Canadian goalies (00:00). Then, JD gives his thoughts on the Thanksgiving slate in the NFL, before bringing on Breakfast Television's Sid Seixeiro (51:00). Sid and JD chat about the Leafs' goaltending situation, the need for clarification on player's injuries, and the pessimism and optimism around Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and the Blue Jays. Finally, JD and Armen speak on the Minnesota Timberwolves' tire fire (1:31:00). Looks Unfamiliar is a podcast in which writer and occasional broadcaster Tim Worthington talks to a guest about some of the things that they remember that nobody else ever seems to.This time, in a special summer edition, Tim, Bob Fischer and Georgy Jamieson are all crowding into a sweltering local radio studio with only a lone copy of the Capital Radio DJs' Dot Cotton and Thatcher impression-led parody cover of The Holiday Rap by MC Miker G And DJ Sven to hand, ready to take your calls about some of the seaside tat and summer holiday boredom that - perhaps thankfully - you just don't seem to get any more. So that's morning television being full of crackly old repeated imports and Why Don't You...?, Breakfast Television insisting on presenting daily roving 'saucy' reports from seaside towns, everyone watching the tennis and cricket coverage for the theme music and then switching off, the Radio 1 Roadshow, badly-planned interminable car journeys to rain-lashed resorts, those weird shops that sold plastic fishing nets and fold-up aviator shades and arcades that had one lone solitary 'Space Invaders' machine, the newsagent wheeling out that big freezer for another summer of rivalry between Wall's and Lyons Maid and much more besides. In a drizzly heatwave of a chat we'll be speculating on the efficacy of Kiss-Me-Quick-Hats sported by popular television puppets, searching for Ian Botham's constantly moving speakeasy, visiting the Motorway Service Station Mirror Universe, revisiting the BBC's 'Summer Apes' Season, celebrating the work of the Gary Davies Elvis fairground artist, despairing of the rival rivalries between Mr. Freeze and Ice Pops and The Halfwits and The Dingbats, revealing why all ice cream vans have an army of Mods in hot pursuit, organising a day trip to the exact spot where Roland Rat pushed Kevin The Gerbil down a hill, going to see Confessions Of A Ventriloquist starring Robin Askwith and Richard Herring, not staring at Erika Roe on an on-the-spot report live from a joke shop and debating whether summer is ever truly summer if you haven't spent the entirety of it throwing a tennis ball against a wall. Call in and tell us the most you've ever won on a 'one-armed bandit' now!You can find more editions of Looks Unfamiliar at http://timworthington.org/. Motherhood is, without a doubt, the best thing that has ever happened to me. It has molded me into a better, stronger, more loving, and compassionate person. I never knew how much my heart could love until I had children. Motherhood has also made me very tired, a bit more anxious, and even more of an over-thinker and worrier. If you're a mom reading this, I'm sure you might be able to relate to a few of these. While we want to do everything we can for our children and be a good mom, sometimes (or oftentimes) we over-extend ourselves because we want to show them (and maybe the world) how much we care. It comes from the very best of intentions, but it can lead us to take on too many responsibilities and commitments. The load that we carry as mothers is heavy. That's why we refer to it as "the mother load." And while, of course, we would do anything for our children, mothers need to remember this . . . all of those things were never meant for one person to carry. Our guest, Erica Djossa, knows all about the mother-load that she literally wrote the book. She talks to us in-depth about this topic and how mothers can make a change for the better. Who is Erica Djossa? Erica Djossa is a registered psychotherapist specializing in maternal mental health with over a decade of experience. She is the author of Releasing the Mother Load: How to Carry Less and Enjoy Motherhood More, CEO and founder of Momwell, and the host of the Momwell podcast. As a mother of three rambunctious young boys, Erica understands first-hand the challenges of motherhood. Perfectionism, pressure, and loss of identity fueled her battle with postpartum depression, and she realized how difficult it is to seek care. She founded Momwell to set a standard of care for providers and ensure mom-centered specialized mental health support at any stage of motherhood. Erica has been featured in media publications, including Time Magazine, USA Today, The Toronto Star, Breakfast Television, and Scary Mommy. What Did We Discuss? In this episode, we chat with Erica about the invisible “mother-load” all moms carry and how moms can learn to carry less and enjoy motherhood more. Here are several of the questions that we covered in our conversation: What are some of the most common mental health issues you see in mothers today? Where does this "invisible load" come from? How can we break away from it? So many modern moms feel pressure to be the "perfect mom.” Why is this harmful, and how can we change it? What are your thoughts on gender norms and how moms can end up carrying more of the load? How does this affect relationships? How do you recommend moms communicate with their partners about how they are feeling and how they can help? What is your advice for the mom who always feels like she needs to do and be “more”? The Paris games kicks off with the Opening Ceremonies today, but the Canadian women's soccer team has already given the thousands of media covering the event something to talk about. Earlier this week, a team analyst was caught using a drone to spy on the New Zealand team's practice, sparking immediate consequences that have included removal from the team, multiple investigations and even police charges. Why would anyone associated with the team try to do this, or think they'd get away with it? Is this a one-off incident or a systemic issue? How far up the Canadian soccer ladder does this scheme go? How bad will the fallout be? And has Canada tainted its games before they even begin?GUEST: Sid Seixeiro, sports commentator, co-host of Breakfast Television, formerly of Tim and Sid We love feedback at The Big Story, as well as suggestions for future episodes. They desperately want to feel like they are succeeding, but the impossible standards placed on them leave them feeling burned out and frustrated. Releasing the Mother Load: How To Carry Less and Enjoy Motherhood More is an empowering guidebook that teaches moms how to unlearn intensive mothering expectations and free themselves from the burdens of mental labor. “In our search for perfection, we hold ourselves up to impossible standards,” says Djossa. “And when we inevitably fall short of those, we feel like failures. The key is in letting go of what we think we should be and embracing our value as a mom.” Based on the teachings through her maternal mental health platform, Momwell, Erica Djossa unpacks the dimensions of cognitive labor—the invisible care work within tasks like soothing babies, navigating tantrums, keeping track of where everything is in the house, and planning for appointments. In Releasing the Mother Load, Djossa invites readers to break free from societal conditioning that demands mothers do it all, and step into a new way of thinking that relieves the weight of unrealistic motherhood expectations and allows them to say no, take on less, and enjoy life more. Alessia left her decade-long career in the finance world to build her fitness company after falling in love with wellness.
