She has always been interested in the effects of nutrition on skin health, from acute conditions such as pressure ulcers to chronic medical conditions such as acne and psoriasis to cosmetic concerns such as facial wrinkles, dryness, and dullness. Dr. Fam also believes that nutrition recommendations should be targeted to a person's dietary habits and preferences which can be influenced by traditions, cultures, and socioeconomic status. Her research interests include the effects of whole foods and functional foods on skin health and other chronic conditions.

She is practicing at the Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Vallejo, California where she serves as the assistant chief of dermatology, the regional director for hair disorders, the local research chair, and the regional co-lead for dermatology research. Additionally, Dr. Mirmirani has faculty appointments at the University of California, San Francisco and Case Western Reserve University. As an active clinician, researcher, and teacher, she has over 50 peer review publications and regularly presents at national and international conferences on various hair topics. Notably, Dr. Mirmirani co-authored “Cicatricial Alopecia: An Approach to Diagnosis and Management,” the first book dedicated to the topic. Her awards include the UCSF Outstanding Clinical Teacher and the San Francisco Dermatologic Society's Key Dermatology Leader for hair. Dr. Mirmirani has served on various society committees including the scientific advisory board of the Cicatricial Alopecia Research Foundation, the clinical research advisory board for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, and the Board of Directors for the North American Hair Research Society.

It is a project in conjunction with the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks, and is funded by the Chaney Enterprises Foundation Fund and the Environment Anne Arundel County Fund of the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County. So where do you come in? Show up and work. Each Thursday (and some Saturdays) a group of people meet at Bacon Ridge to work for a few hours, meet some great people, and help our natural areas in Anne Arundel County thrive. It is a perfect way to help and to get to know Bacon Ridge! Interested? First of all, have a listen, and then go and register for a Thursday.  And if you are there on 7/29...be sure to say hello. At Helfgott Research Institute, Dr. Zwickey applies her immunology expertise to natural medicine with a specific interest in the gut-brain axis in inflammation.
