Bjørn Mannsverk is the former F-16 fighter pilot who swapped combat missions for football kits to lead Bodø/Glimt on a historic rise. Under his guidance, the small Norwegian club achieved the impossible, dismantling giants like Manchester City, Inter Milan, and Atletico Madrid despite a stadium capacity of just 8,200.In this episode, Bjørn explains how he transformed the team by strictly banning the word "winning" and replacing it with a performance-driven culture built on "awareness training." He breaks down his "Fighter Pilot Method," including high-pressure "friction meetings" and the on-pitch huddle known as "The Ring" that refocused his team after every goal. Bjørn also explores how treating a dressing room like a combat squadron drove the club's revenue from €4.2m to €80m and why letting go of ambition is the ultimate key to elite success.Better Help

Bodø/Glimt, the team from the town of Bodø north of the polar circle, counting around 45,000 inhabitants, made it to the round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League this season. After beating Atletico Madrid, Manchester City and Inter Milan, they got eliminated by Sporting, from Lisbon two weeks ago. All that comes on the heels of some previous runs in the Conference and Europa League. What's even more remarkable however: this isn't the Cindarella story with a rich sugardaddy in the background. It's a longer story that speaks to regional tensions in modern Norway, a close knit community, and some very hard and deliberate work. It really is that. Freddy Toresen is with us again. He is the journalist covering Bodo Glimt up close and locally, with a level of access to the club that's hard to imagine for journalists who cover teams in bigger leagues - and he has a long history following the club as well.HELPFUL LINKS FOR THIS EPISODE:Freddy Toresen on Instagram and Facebook City of Bodø on WikipediaBodø/Glimt in the New York Times last monthClub websiteNEW: send me a text message! The day after he arrived back from his clubs last Champions League game this year, a loss at Sporting in Lisbon, Freddy Toresen, the local football journalist from Bodø, gives us a long view of the club and its identity. This is just the first part of our conversation, a reaction to this year's Champions League fairytale that included wins over Manchester City, Inter Milan, and Atletico Madrid. Watch for the long rest of our conversation on how this fairytale came about on March 30th, as usual.NEW: send me a text message! Could Antoine Griezmann really be headed to Orlando City SC — and if so, would he be the one player capable of challenging Lionel Messi for MLS supremacy? We kick things off by diving into the rumor, the fit, and what Griezmann's personality and playing style would mean for the league. Is this realistic, or just classic MLS chaos? Then NJ/NY Gotham FC defender Mandy Freeman joins the show. She reflects on Gotham's improbable championship run, the weight of expectations heading into the new season, and what it's like being a 10-year NWSL veteran who's seen the league evolve from host families and modest crowds to sold-out stadiums. Mandy also opens up about her love of fashion and gives a thoughtful critique of the NWSL's new High Impact Player rule — explaining why raising the ceiling doesn't necessarily raise the floor for players across the league. We wrap with Champions League drama: Weston McKennie continues to shine, but did Juventus FC let him down again? Is it time for him to seek a bigger move? Vinícius Júnior delivers another electric performance against SL Benfica, while FK Bodø/Glimt stun Inter Milan — raising serious questions about what's happening with Italian teams in Europe this season.
