Truth Truth! What is truth? Today we hear consistently that there are no absolute truths anymore! We hear all the time that for twenty first century people "What is true for me may not be true to you! What is true for you may not be true for me?" So what is truth? Facts may be either true or false - an intellectual truth. An example would be that Moses existed as a person. That is a true fact. Or it could used to define a characteristic of a reliable person, such as Joseph's brothers in Genesis 42:16. These are also used to describe God as a true God, rather than the pagan gods belonging to the nations around Israel. Truth or being true, is described as a characteristic of Yahweh, the God of Israel. God is consistently true and therefore trustworthy in all His ways. God's loving care is trustworthy and seen in His dealings with Israel. In the New Testament, Christianity is seen as Truth (Galatians 2:5; Ephesians 1:13)! Indeed Jesus said that He was the only truth, the only life and the only way to God. Jesus is the true bread and the true vine! Furthermore truth is God's word to be obeyed actively and not dismissed passively. What role does active truth and being actively true play in the life of a Christian? Truth develops character, Peter writes (2 Peter 1:3-9). The strongest Christians are those with a good growing knowledge of biblical truth. Since understanding the Bible, increases your knowledge of God, it increases the possibilities for love, growth and service. "Ignorance is the mother of superstition not of devotion". "Truth combats error". Satan and the world, do and will distort scripture to put people off the truth, so therefore, you need to get to know what the Bible does say, so that you will not be led into error by others who would want to deceive you. As John writes "Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God." (1 John 4:1-3) However, for truth to be truly effective, it needs to be an animated truth, by your being a doer of the Bible and not merely a passive hearer. Your life as a Christian must be a balance of love and truth. Both coexist with each other and through both your knowledge, service and faith in Almighty God will continually grow and be strengthened. Click or tap here to save this Podcast as a MP3.

What do we do when the truth of God's word is not being lived out? When do we speak and when do we not? Lorrie looks at Galatians 2 to help us find the answers.
Will you stand for the truth even when it may cost you? In Galatians 2, the Apostle Paul boldly stood for the truth. Believers must be willing to confront anyone who threatens the purity of the Gospel. Learn more in this week's message:

In this episode, we begin to delve into the text of Galatians by examining the first five verses of chapter 1. Even though there are features of these verses that appear to be standard to any introuduction in Paul's epistles, there are concepts that he lays out that sets the stage and paves the way for the truth he will expound on later in the book. Partakers Bible Thought 19 August 2021 11 In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12 in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. 13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession—to the praise of his glory. (Ephesians 1:11-14) 3 His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins. (2 Peter 1:3-9) 1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. (1 John 4:1-3) Truth! What is truth? Galatians 6:11-13 ESV 11 See with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. 12 It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh who would force you to be circumcised, and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. 13 For even those who are circumcised do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh. STAND FOR THE GOSPEL TRUTH. Paul might simply have written the end of some of his letters in distinctive large handwriting as evidence that the letter was genuine. As some scholars had speculated, he had a failing eyesight so that his handwriting were larger than the rest. He understood himself to be writing with the authority of an apostle of Jesus Christ, and he wanted to minimize the ability of anyone to suggest the letter was a fake. Again, he expresses that those trying to influence the Galatians to be circumcised were only doing so in order to make themselves look good "in the flesh." They sought to earn the approval of other Jewish religious leaders by the number of new Gentile Christians they can convince to be circumcised. Paul warned his readers not to buy into their lies. Also, they insisted on circumcision because they were afraid of being persecuted by other Jewish religious leaders. They might had agreed that faith in Christ is necessary for salvation. But, to teach that circumcision is not necessary will draw a strong dislike from the religious leaders. Paul knew it by experience. Thus, they took the popular and convenient route to avoid trouble. However, Paul has emphasized clearly that faith in Christ and circumcision cannot go together (Gal 5:4). They, need to stand for the truth of the gospel. Moreover, Paul says that these Judaizers are also hypocrites. Because the demand of the law is to be followed perfectly, nobody couldn't be obeyed perfectly. Just a failure in obeying one law makes one guilty of all. (Gal 3:10–14). Thus, the only reason is for them to boast about their influence. In other words, the Galatian believers are just merely numbers to their roster as salesmen boast for having many customers. ---------- Visit and FOLLOW Gospel Light Filipino on YouTube and Facebook
Ever thought "your" gospel might be wrong? Whether we like to admit it or not, sometimes we're prone to take in ideas that sound good but simply don't line up with the gospel of Jesus Christ. In this episode, we dive into Paul's letter to the churches in Galatia, where he laid down the charge of following a different gospel. It's a charge that could just as easily apply to churches today. Whether it's so-called "progressive" Christians diluting the gospel of Jesus and mixing it with New Age religions or hyper-fundamentalists living out a "Jesus + works" type of salvation, we can all be a little guilty of preaching the wrong gospel.
Galatians 6:7-8 - Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 15 To give a human example, brothers:[f] even with a man-made covenant, no one annuls it or adds to it once it has been ratified. 16 Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, “And to offsprings,” referring to many, but referring to one, “And to your offspring,” who is Christ. 17 This is what I mean: the law, which came 430 years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to make the promise void. 18 For if the inheritance comes by the law, it no longer comes by promise; but God gave it to Abraham by a promise. True love offends. When a brother — even an apostle — sins publicly, it is often the most loving thing to do to correct him publicly. Listen above, download the audio file, or watch the video below. Photo by Haidan on Unsplash
