Did you know the Bible contains 5 times more prophecies about Jesus' return than about His birth? From Genesis to Revelation, all of Scripture points to the triumphant return of Christ—when He will come back for His church, reign on earth for 1,000 years, and once and for all demonstrate His victory over Satan, death, and evil. In this sermon, Pastor Duane Vander Klok unpacks what the Bible calls our "blessed hope”: the confidence we can have in Jesus' return and the eternal peace we will share with Him. Don't miss this powerful message that will inspire your faith and renew your anticipation of His glorious coming!

Jesus Ministries, Joan Boney  ...   I John 4  (John says)   1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.   2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:   3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.   4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is HE that is in you, than he that is in the world.

When you're driving, you rely on what you see through your windshield and mirrors. But what if you were navigating a submarine, where you can't see anything under the water? Just like a submarine uses radar to map out unseen obstacles, we too need tools to discern what's ahead in life. The Bible teaches us this in 1 John 4:1-3: "Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God."It tells us to test every spirit, not blindly follow every message we hear. Just like the submarine's radar, our spiritual discernment helps us identify the truth, ensuring that we follow the right path, one that truly acknowledges and follows Jesus.

The Power Of God's Whisper Podcast

Today, we're focusing on living a life of daily humility before God. Our key Scripture for this episode is Colossians 3:12. We'll explore what it means to walk humbly with God every day.Our springboard for today's discussion is: Colossians 3:12: "Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience." This verse reminds us that humility is a vital part of our Christian walk, along with compassion, kindness, gentleness, and patience.Living a life of daily humility means consistently placing others' needs above our own, recognizing our dependence on God, and seeking to honor Him in all we do. It's about having a servant's heart and a teachable spirit, being willing to learn, grow, and admit when we're wrong.Practical Ways to Integrate Humility:* Start Your Day with Humility: Begin each day by humbling yourself before God in prayer, acknowledging His sovereignty over your life. Psalm 25:9 says, "He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way."* Listen More, Speak Less: Make a conscious effort to listen more than you speak in conversations. James 1:19 advises, "Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry." This practice shows respect and values others' perspectives.* Serve Others Selflessly: Look for opportunities to serve those around you, whether at home, work, or in your community. Acts of service shift our focus from ourselves to others, reflecting Christ's humility.Remember…Embracing humility strengthens our relationships and opens us to God's guidance, bringing inner peace and contentment.Question: What practical steps can you take today to integrate humility into your daily life?Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for calling us to live a life of humility. Help us to start each day by submitting to Your will, listening to others, serving selflessly, admitting our mistakes, and giving credit where it's due. May our lives reflect Your love and grace as we walk humbly with You. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.Remember, God calls us to clothe ourselves with humility, reflecting His love and grace in all we do. Stay vigilant, stay prayerful, and always strive to walk humbly with God every day. Truth Truth! What is truth? Today we hear consistently that there are no absolute truths anymore! We hear all the time that for twenty first century people "What is true for me may not be true to you! What is true for you may not be true for me?" So what is truth? Facts may be either true or false - an intellectual truth. An example would be that Moses existed as a person. That is a true fact. Or it could used to define a characteristic of a reliable person, such as Joseph's brothers in Genesis 42:16. These are also used to describe God as a true God, rather than the pagan gods belonging to the nations around Israel. Truth or being true, is described as a characteristic of Yahweh, the God of Israel. God is consistently true and therefore trustworthy in all His ways. God's loving care is trustworthy and seen in His dealings with Israel. In the New Testament, Christianity is seen as Truth (Galatians 2:5; Ephesians 1:13)! Indeed Jesus said that He was the only truth, the only life and the only way to God. Jesus is the true bread and the true vine! Furthermore truth is God's word to be obeyed actively and not dismissed passively. What role does active truth and being actively true play in the life of a Christian? Truth develops character, Peter writes (2 Peter 1:3-9). The strongest Christians are those with a good growing knowledge of biblical truth. Since understanding the Bible, increases your knowledge of God, it increases the possibilities for love, growth and service. "Ignorance is the mother of superstition not of devotion". "Truth combats error". Satan and the world, do and will distort scripture to put people off the truth, so therefore, you need to get to know what the Bible does say, so that you will not be led into error by others who would want to deceive you. As John writes "Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God." (1 John 4:1-3) However, for truth to be truly effective, it needs to be an animated truth, by your being a doer of the Bible and not merely a passive hearer. Your life as a Christian must be a balance of love and truth. Both coexist with each other and through both your knowledge, service and faith in Almighty God will continually grow and be strengthened. Click or tap here to save this Podcast as a MP3.

Wednesday, 24 July 2024   So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations. Matthew 1:17   “Therefore, all the generations from Abraham until David, generations fourteen. And from David until the Babylon deportation, generations fourteen. And from the Babylon deportation until the Christ, generations fourteen” (CG).   The previous verse noted the birth of Jesus, who is called Christ. With that noted, Matthew now sums up his genealogical listing, beginning with, “Therefore, all the generations from Abraham until David, generations fourteen.”   The listings of generations, as noted purposefully omit some names. Matthew is setting forth a memory technique by listing the three triads in set intervals of fourteen generations each. These triads set forth the proposition that Jesus is the great Son of David, prophesied in 2 Samuel 7, a passage known to be messianic in nature –   “When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men. 15 But My mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 16 And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever.” 2 Samuel 7:12-16   The listing begins with Abraham, the father of the Hebrew people. The genealogies to David are fourteen, upon which the listing pivots. The name of David in Hebrew is דוד (DVD/daleth vav daleth). The letter daleth represents the number 4. The letter vav represents the number 6. Thus, it equates to 4+6+4 = 14.   This is the key upon which Matthew is setting forth his listing. The list then continues, saying, “And from David until the Babylon deportation, generations fourteen.”   Jeconiah (aka Coniah) was the king deported to Babylon. Of him, the Lord, through Jeremiah, said –    “‘As I live,' says the Lord, ‘though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, were the signet on My right hand, yet I would pluck you off; 25 and I will give you into the hand of those who seek your life, and into the hand of those whose face you fear—the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and the hand of the Chaldeans.'” Jeremiah 22:24, 25   David's kingly line in Judah was cut in Coniah, represented by the plucking off of the signet. And yet, the line remained in Babylon. From there, Matthew next says, “And from the Babylon deportation until the Christ, generations fourteen.”   No king reigned from the time of the Babylonian exile. However, the line of the signet in Judah was restored in Zerubbabel, a returnee from Babylon –   “‘In that day,' says the Lord of hosts, ‘I will take you, Zerubbabel My servant, the son of Shealtiel,' says the Lord, ‘and will make you like a signet ring; for I have chosen you,' says the Lord of hosts.” Haggai 2:23   It is this anticipation of the restored kingly line of David that was anticipated in the coming of the Messiah. Matthew is indicating that the promised eternal kingdom is fulfilled in Jesus the Christ. Of the number fourteen, E.W. Bullinger says –   “FOURTEEN being a multiple of seven, partakes of its significance; and, being double that number, implies a double measure of spiritual perfection. The number two with which it is combined (2x7) may, however, bring its own significance into its meaning, as in Matthew 1, where the genealogy of Jesus Christ is divided up and given in sets of 14 (2x7) generations, two being the number associated with incarnation.”   As there are three triads, Bullinger notes that “three points us to what is real, essential, perfect, substantial, complete, and Divine.”   We are being given numerical hints of the perfection of what God has done in Christ through the manner in which the Holy Spirit inspired Matthew to complete this genealogical listing.   Interestingly, the total number of generations is forty-two. It is defined by Bullinger, saying “is a number connected with Antichrist. An important part of his career is to last for 42 months (Rev 11:2, 13:5), and thus this number is fixed upon him. ... Being a multiple of seven, it might be supposed that it would be connected with spiritual perfection. But it is the product of six times seven. Six, therefore, being the number of Man, and man's opposition to God, forty-two becomes significant of the working out of man's opposition to God.”   Jesus is shown to be the Christ in the two genealogies submitted by Matthew and Luke. However, there cannot be an antichrist if there is no Christ. Thus, at the coming of Christ, there also came the spirit of antichrist. The four uses of the term in Scripture come from the hand of John –   “Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour.” 1 John 2:18   “Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son.” 1 John 2:22   “By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.” 1 John 4:2, 3   “For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.” 2 John 1:7   John specifically reveals that the incarnation of God in Christ is the central point upon which the spirit of the antichrist is revealed. Thus, to deny the deity of Jesus Christ is the spirit of antichrist. To deny Jesus is God incarnate is to then deny the Father. This is why Paul says –   “...that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9   To proclaim Jesus is Lord is to proclaim that He is Yehovah incarnate. When one proclaims this, he has overcome the spirit of the antichrist. Jesus alone is the dividing line for who can be saved. Upon which side will you stand?   Life application: Jesus Christ is the defining figure in all of human history. Adam was created, and from him all people descend. However, in his fall, all men fell because all sinned in Adam. Death is the wages of sin and so all die. However, Jesus came to restore life. As all die in Adam, all in Christ live. This is carefully explained by Paul in the book of Romans.   John shows us that those who deny the incarnation of God in Christ have no connection to God the Father. The only way to overcome this spirit of the antichrist is to accept that God alone, through the incarnation of Christ, has done everything necessary for man to be saved.   Who is Jesus to you? What does grace mean to you? How do you perceive your relationship with the Law of Moses? If you are trying to merit God's favor through law observance, you cannot be pleasing to God. This is because if Jesus is God, then He has done everything necessary to satisfy what He promised He would satisfy in the coming of the Messiah.   How can you do more than God to reconcile yourself to Him? You cannot. Therefore, law observance, after the coming of Christ, is the spirit of the antichrist, denying the Father/Son relationship. Think it through, put away your self-righteousness. Yield yourself to God's grace through accepting that He has done it all through Jesus.   Lord God Almighty, Thank You for the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ! Amen.

Brunson explains how Wurmbrand inspired him to dance inside his prison cell before the Lord. He says he didn't feel joy or happiness, but he set his will to act joyfully, in spite of his feelings. Brunson was also inspired by another former prisoner for Christ (and ), Dan Baumann, to lock away doubts and questions and choose to leave those in God's hand. Brunson says he told God from his prison cell, “I don't need answers to have a relationship with You.” Listen as Andrew shares how he came to “embrace my assignment” of being in prison for Christ. “I came out of prison with a deeper intimacy,” says Brunson, “I had the privilege to suffer for Christ.” God birthed a song in Andrew's soul while locked in prison. He'll share how his heart changed over the long months of his incarceration to a posture of faithfulness and trust; a change that happened despite not seeing his outward circumstances change at all. That heart change, he says, was his victory over the terrible circumstances and the injustice of Christian persecution he faced in prison. Finally, Brunson will tell the story of a letter he wrote to Norine that clearly demonstrated his changed heart. What Does "Test the Spirits" Mean in the Bible and How Do We Do It?

Truth Tribe with Douglas Groothuis

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 4, 2024 20:22

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 5 They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood. I.    My Life of Testing the Spirits II.    1 John: Truth for Life: Review III.    Our Society of Testing A.    We need reliable test to find truth. The LORD detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him (Proverbs 11:1). B.    Test other religions, cults, and new religions, progressive Christianity by Scripture C.    We must measure spiritual maturity by testing the spirits. Biblical standard for right judgment. a.    False apostles 13 For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. 15 It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness (2 Corinthians 11:13-15). b.    False teachers (Matthew 7:15-16) Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. c.    False angels preaching false gospel (Galatians 1) 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God's curse!  d.    False doctrines (of demons) The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons (1 Timothy 4:1). IV.    We Must Test the Spirits  A.    Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world (4:1). B.    Don't be naïve or gullible—don't be a sucker C.    You must test, evaluate, assess, because of counterfeits; counterfeit money; hacking, scammers D.    Many false prophets out in the world; not rare, but commonDear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come (1 John 2:18). V.    The Standard for the Truth Test (v. 2-3) A.    2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world (4:2-3). B.    Test by the standard of Jesus Christ, who he is, what he taught 1.    Either/or resulting in a pass/fail; no middle ground; no gray zone; no mist, haze, fog or bog. Not grading on a curve. It is a categorical test; a universal test; and a necessary test. 2.    Test counterfeit money by knowing the real thing, the genuine—the genuine and authentic Jesus in the Bible 3.    Consider five statements in 1 John about Jesus 1.    He came as a flesh and blood man who was seen and touched (1 John 1:1-3) 2.    “Advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world” (1 John 2:1-2). 3.    He appeared to destroy the devil's work (1 John 3:8) 4.    Jesus' work of love: “Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters” (1 John 3:16). 5.    “He is the true God and eternal life” (1 John 5:20). C.    This test is sufficient to identify spirit of error; there are other errors wrought by the spirit of error. Get this one wrong, everything else is wrong. Christological test. D.    Two test cases 1.    Islam: denies Jesus is God incarnate; denies that he died to atone for our sins. 2.    New Age: denies Jesus is the one incarnation, says he was one of many gurus, masters, swamis, yogis, mystics. I wrote two books that addressed this, Revealing the New Age Jesus and Jesus in an Age of Controversy. E.    Three tips on testing from a veteran 1.    Non-Christian groups may use our vocabulary, but not our dictionary. Know your Bible; ready, study, memorize.  2.    Texts out of context are a pretext for error. Satan tempting Jesus in the wilderness (Matthew 4; Luke 4). Know your Bible. 3.    If a religious group says it accepts the Bible as a true revelation, but accepts other books as revelations, it will contradict the Bible at key places about Christ and salvation. VI.    Overcoming Error by the Spirit of Truth A.    Overcoming (v. 4) You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world (4:4) 1.    Overcome in what way? Vicarious victory through Christ, crucified and resurrected. They have no authority over you. You are free from their lies. 2.    Overcome who? Those “in the world,” fallen cultural, political, religious system. People: false prophets, false apostle, false teachers, demons, angels of light, the Devil, and the spirit of antichrist  3.    Overcome how? Through faith in Christ, who is in you a.    4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it (John 1:4-5). b.    “For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith” (I John 5:4) VII.     Speaking Truth and Listening for Truth (vs. 5-6) 5 They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood. A.    Test by power within you and the knowledge within you: Confidence. Greater is the Spirit of God in you, Christ in you, than the spirits of error (4:4). B.    Ultimate either/or; dichotomy of discourse: Truth of Christ; lies of the spirit of error and its mouthpieces, megaphones, and media C.    Spirit of truth and error; not just truth or error philosophically 1.    Spirits from the world: “doctrines of demons”  “The Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons.” (1 Timothy 4:1) 2.    Spirit of God and the word of God: “Living and active” word of God (Hebrews 4:12) D.    Origin of error “viewpoint of the world” (2:15-17); false assumptions lead to false conclusions; but Christians have the Spirit of truth within us, the risen Christ! E.    The test about the spiritual truthfulness of others is not a subjective feeling or whether they seem nice or sincere; it is a doctrinal test. Jesus calls the Holy Spirit the Spirit of Truth (John 14:17; 15:26; 16:13)   Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

Is This Holy? | The Todd Coconato Show "The Remnant"  www.PastorTodd.org www.ToddCoconato.com/give (to give to this ministry)  www.RRCNashville.org www.PastorToddBook.com (new book) "Testing the spirits" to discern if something is holy is an important concept in Christianity, based on the teaching of the Bible. The primary reference for this is found in 1 John 4:1-3, which says: "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world." Based on this and other biblical teachings, here are ways to "test the spirits": 1. *Confession of Christ's Lordship*: The spirit that acknowledges Jesus Christ as Lord, who came in the flesh, is from God. This is a foundational truth in Christianity. 2. *Alignment with Biblical Teaching*: Anything that contradicts the core teachings of the Bible is not from God. This requires Christians to be well-versed in Scripture (2 Timothy 3:16-17). 3. *Fruit of the Spirit*: Galatians 5:22-23 describes the fruit of the Spirit. A spirit that produces love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control is consistent with the Holy Spirit. 4. *Promotion of Righteousness and Truth*: 1 John 3:7-10 emphasizes that the one who does what is right and loves their brother or sister is born of God. Spirits that lead towards unrighteousness or deceit are not of God. 5. *Consistency with the Character of Christ*: Any spirit or teaching should be measured against the character and teachings of Jesus Christ as revealed in the Gospels (Philippians 2:5). 6. *Edification of the Church*: The spirit that works for the edification, unity, and growth of the Church in love is from God (Ephesians 4:11-16). 7. *Inner Witness of the Holy Spirit*: For those who are believers, the Holy Spirit within them bears witness to the truth. As Romans 8:16 says, “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.” In summary, to test the spirits, one must be grounded in the truth of Scripture, discern the fruits and outcomes of the spirit or teaching in question, and rely on the inner guidance of the Holy Spirit. This process helps Christians discern what is truly holy and from God.

Avoid The Crash 2 Cpr 5:7 #RTTBROS #nightlight 7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) 2 Cor 5:7 The following explains how we can gain emotional stability in time of trials and suffering: "While piloting a plane in a thick fog, a pilot cannot be sure of his direction unless he gives full attention to his instruments. When flying through a thunderstorm, the turbulence will throw him about, and the darkness within the clouds will threaten to disorient him. Sometimes he will feel as though he is going up or down or turning around. But he cannot depend on his feelings. Only the gyros can be trusted, so the pilot must hang on to the controls in the turbulence and discipline his mind to concentrate on the instruments while he flies through the storm. The parallel truth for the Christian in troubled times is clear. Undisciplined feelings…can cause a crash unless one keeps himself stabilized by the facts of the Word of God…Every promise in the Word of God is like a gyro giving information to stabilize him in a specific situation…With daily practice one learns not to panic but to believe a specific truth from the Bible fitted for his own unique circumstances. By experience one learns not to fight his feelings, but to look away from them to the “instrument panel” of the Word of God which is utterly dependable. One discovers that if he will just hang on in the worst of the turbulence, no matter how disrupting, his mind and heart steadied by the great truths of the Word and his eyes intently fixed on God Himself, he will eventually break through rain-black clouds to soar once more in the clear, tranquil atmosphere." Chris Bray decided to do something extraordinary: he read the Bill. Chris joins us again today, What does God's Word say? 1 John 4: 1-6On Denying the Incarnation4 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how we recognize the Spirit[a] of truth and the spirit of falsehood.Matthew 7:15-20 True and False Prophets15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.Episode 839 Links:Please subscribe to Chris Bray's SubstackTexas Democrat sides with Republicans on banning on so-called “sex-change ‘treatments'”, puberty blockers for minors; Texas state Rep.
