Romans 8:18-23 — Is Scripture completely irrelevant? Listen to Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones looks at the contemporary answers found in Romans 8:18-23. The sufferings of this present time are the unchanging problems of mankind. Human suffering is always a result of sin. Science and philosophy cannot give man such hope in the face of humanity, but the Gospel of Christ can. Look at nature from the Bible's standpoint and find comfort on its terms. The greatest consolation in this present affliction is that this is God's world. The ground was cursed for man's sin and the world is under the wrath of God, but there is good news. The Christian Gospel is the only explanation and solution to the sufferings of the present time. Learn that every human's greatest need is to be reconciled to God and the only promised deliverer is Christ. A Christian is still subject to all the sufferings of this present world; but man has a new view of time, and sufferings, which are incomparable to the glory to come. Are you groaning with creation? Find out that you should be! Nothing can frustrate the plans of God. Cast yourself on His compassion and love; your sins have already been dealt with.

October 17, 2024 / Trinity 101 / Session 1: The Christian Gospel by Trinity Episcopal Church Vero Beach
There is a roughly four-minute sequence in the middle of the first Superman movie (1978) that hits the stratosphere of movie emotion -- and of real-life emotion, too. It is the scene in which Superman takes Lois Lane's hand and flies her leisuredly over Manhattan Island. As the pair glide over the city, Lois Lane (played by Margot Kidder) confides her innermost thoughts to the viewer: she has fallen completely in love with Superman, and that is because he has singled her out as the object of his most personal regard. The sequence is monumental in feeling and memory because it sums up the sequence of romantic loving -- and also the sequence of God's loving of poor us. Because Superman has singled out Lois for his most tender regard, she responds with her entire self. She voices her feelings in this way: "Here I am like a kid out of school. Holding hands with a god. I'm a fool. Will you look at me? Quivering. Like a little girl shivering. You can see right through me. Can you read my mind? Can you picture the things I'm thinking of? Wondering why you are all the wonderful things you are. You can fly! You belong in the sky. You and I could belong to each other. If you need a friend, I'm the one to fly to. If you need to be loved, here I am. Read my mind." What this demonstrates is that love does not start with loving someone, but rather with being loved by someone. I need to be the object of someone's love before I can actually love someone myself. Now capitalize the 's' - S - and the analogy to the Christian Gospel becomes palpable. Instantly palpable! All love begins as One-Way Love: not love from me but love to me. So go now and look up that sequence in Superman from 1978. It's easy to find. And it's the truth of life. And not a truth of life. But the truth of life. LUV U.
“I don't have anything…” 1 Kings 17:1-24 1 Kings 16:29-33 1 Kings 17:1 Now Elijah the Tishbite, from the Gilead settlers, said to Ahab, “As the Lord God of Israel lives, in whose presence I stand, there will be no dew or rain during these years except by my command!” 1 Kings 17:2-7 2 Then the word of the Lord came to him: 3 “Leave here, turn eastward, and hide at the Wadi Cherith where it enters the Jordan. 4 You are to drink from the wadi. I have commanded the ravens to provide for you there.” 5 So he proceeded to do what the Lord commanded. Elijah left and lived at the Wadi Cherith where it enters the Jordan. 6 The ravens kept bringing him bread and meat in the morning and in the evening, and he would drink from the wadi. 7 After a while, the wadi dried up because there had been no rain in the land. God provides even when it comes from an unlikely source. 1 Kings 17:8-24 8 Then the word of the Lord came to him: 9 “Get up, go to Zarephath that belongs to Sidon and stay there. Look, I have commanded a woman who is a widow to provide for you there.” 10 So Elijah got up and went to Zarephath. When he arrived at the city gate, there was a widow gathering wood. Elijah called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a cup and let me drink.” 11 As she went to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a piece of bread in your hand.” 12 But she said, “As the Lord your God lives, I don't have anything baked—only a handful of flour in the jar and a bit of oil in the jug. Just now, I am gathering a couple of sticks in order to go prepare it for myself and my son so we can eat it and die.” 13 Then Elijah said to her, “Don't be afraid; go and do as you have said. But first make me a small loaf from it and bring it out to me. Afterward, you may make some for yourself and your son, 14 for this is what the Lord God of Israel says, ‘The flour jar will not become empty and the oil jug will not run dry until the day the Lord sends rain on the surface of the land.'” 15 So she proceeded to do according to the word of Elijah. Then the woman, Elijah, and her household ate for many days. 16 The flour jar did not become empty, and the oil jug did not run dry, according to the word of the Lord he had spoken through Elijah. 17 After this, the son of the woman who owned the house became ill. His illness got worse until he stopped breathing. 18 She said to Elijah, “Man of God, what do you have against me? Have you come to call attention to my iniquity so that my son is put to death?” 19 But Elijah said to her, “Give me your son.” So he took him from her arms, brought him up to the upstairs room where he was staying, and laid him on his own bed. 20 Then he cried out to the Lord and said, “Lord my God, have you also brought tragedy on the widow I am staying with by killing her son?” 21 Then he stretched himself out over the boy three times. He cried out to the Lord and said, “Lord my God, please let this boy's life come into him again!” 22 So the Lord listened to Elijah, and the boy's life came into him again, and he lived. 23 Then Elijah took the boy, brought him down from the upstairs room into the house, and gave him to his mother. Elijah said, “Look, your son is alive.” 24 Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now I know you are a man of God and the Lord's word from your mouth is true.” • Fed by ravens • The widow's flour and oil • The widow's son The miracle is that there is more than enough. There is an overflow of abundance that defies royal scarcity. More than enough, guaranteed by God! The Christian Gospel is a summons to leave the fearful world of scarcity and to practice the world of abundance in quite concrete ways. Elijah did not just happen on this desperate woman. He was sent there by God; it was his vocation to go be with her. –Walter Brueggemann The Christian Gospel is a summons to leave the fearful world of scarcity and to practice the world of abundance in quite concrete ways.
John 6: 66-69 Concluding our series on Constructing Beautiful Faith we consider the ultimate question every person has to ask themselves. In light of the beauty of the Christian Gospel but still acknowledging there remain unanswered questions, ‘What will you do with Jesus?’ Following Jesus demands accepting certain truths but denying Him also demands something as well. Everyone believes something.
What are your thoughts on Islam? Do you have any friends who are Muslim? If so, how do you discuss faith and religion with them? In this episode, Jason welcomes Christian apologist Alan Shlemon from Stand to Reason. With over 20 years of experience studying Islam, training believers, and traveling to the Middle East to foster understanding, Alan will guide us in exploring the appeal of Islam, some of its core beliefs, and what Muslims think about Jesus and Christianity.
Ed Bondrenka talked to Hedieh Mirahmadi, former Islamic Undercover Asset, Federal Intelligence Advisor to 5 presidents, now a minister of the Christian Gospel. She's got some great stories on either side of that divide.
In the soaring crescendo of Galatians Chapter Two, verse 20, Paul declares the essential fact of the Christian Gospel, “The Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me”. The Apostle's life was powerful, prolific and productive because it was secured, anchored and stabilized by two irrefutable truths. Dr. T. D. Stubblefield in the concluding sermon of the series, “The Power of a Changed Life” reminds us of what those truths are. A love that will not let us go and a life that will not let us die!
We're kicking off a new sermon series designed to look at how the Christian Gospel affects every single relationship you might have in life. In order to start, we need to first see that they are good AND beautiful.
1 Peter 1:10-12 — What changes when someone is saved? Is Christianity just a political movement that lobbies for a better world, or imposes a strict code of conduct? In this sermon on 1 Peter 1:10–12 titled “The Christian Gospel,” Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones speaks about how there are many who may hold these views, but they are mistaken. Christianity is not about morality or politics, but it is about hope in Christ and salvation in the gospel found in God's word. God has chosen to reveal Himself to sinful people through the prophets, apostles, and Scripture. The whole message of salvation is contained in this truth and given to God's people so that they may proclaim it to the world. This gospel is the message that Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation, for He alone has died so that all would be saved. This gift of salvation is given through faith as a result of God's grace. No one can ever work to obtain it. All are born blind in sin until the grace of God opens their eyes to see the glory of Jesus Christ.

It's Tuesday, May 28th A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson 11 pastors jailed in Nicaragua Eleven evangelical pastors are in jail in Nicaragua and a warrant is out for the arrest of a U.S. missionary named Jon Hancock, reports International Christian Concern. Six countries -- including Cuba, Venezuela, Ecuador, Brazil, Honduras, and Mexico -- have also agreed to extradite the missionary if arrested. At issue is a nationwide revival that occurred in association with the Mountain Gateway evangelical outreach. A million people heard the Christian Gospel at eight events in 2023. Unbelievably, the pastors face 12-15 years in prison for their participation in the revivals. And now, 58 members of the U.S. Congress signed a bipartisan letter addressed to the Ambassador of Nicaragua, expressing alarm over Nicaragua's violations of religious freedom. Additionally, House Resolution 1019, also introduced in February, expresses concern “that United States citizens affiliated with the Mountain Gateway ministry are being targeted for arrest and extradition by the Nicaraguan government.” Pray for the Christian pastors incarcerated in Nicaragua today. New Guinea landslide kills 2,000 A massive landslide in New Guinea may have taken the lives of as many as 2,000 people, reports the Post-Courier. The landslide destroyed most of Tulipana Village in Enga Province, at 3:00 am on Friday morning. This marks the deadliest natural disaster in the world for 2024 thus far. Olympics spotlight drag queens The 2024 Paris Summer Olympics will feature three drag queens hoisting the Olympic torch. It's all in accord with the Olympic theme this year which is “Games Wide Open.” The International Olympic Committee has agreed to remove testing restrictions for male competitors who are pretending to be women. That means any man can call himself a woman and compete in 38 out of 48 women's categories. The Olympic site is boasting of “full gender equality” this year. Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo affirmed that “I am proud and, yes, Paris is proud, that a drag queen will carry the torch and the values of peace and humanity.” Blue states' low fertility rates The lowest fertility rates in the United States of America are now found in blue states, known for their leftist leanings, according to recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Vermont is the lowest at 1.35 children per woman, followed by Oregon and New Hampshire. The blue states of Colorado, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island range between 1.4 and 1.5. Overall, the U.S. fertility rate is now 1.62, down from 3.6 in 1960. More potheads than lushes There are now more daily or near daily users of marijuana in the United States than daily users of alcohol. Since 1992, the number of marijuana daily users has increased from 900,000 to 17.7 million. Alcohol daily users have increased from 9 million to 14.7 million over the same time period. At this point, 74% of Americans live in states that have legalized pot. U.S. tornadoes and storms killed 21 In God's providence, more tornadoes and severe storms killed another 21 people in the U.S. over the weekend. Nearly 100 were injured and seven killed in a powerful tornado that struck near the Texas-Oklahoma border. This is reported to be the most active tornado season in seven years, with 442 tornadoes so far reported for the month of May, according to Fox News. Walmart pushes sexual perversion Some say, “Go Woke. Go Broke.” But now, Walmart has opened up its “Pride Always” line of products in commemoration of what has become known as June Pride Month. A recent Fox News report pointed out that Target is pulling back on its Pride celebration, while Walmart is advancing the Pride agenda. “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” That's Proverbs 16:18. We are running AT child killing, to END child killing!” However, the Constitution Party has never done better than 0.2% of the vote, and 0.04% of the vote in 2020. According to its website, the Constitution Party is on the ballot in 12 states and is petitioning to be on more. In 2022, the party made it on the ballot in 15 states, including the battleground states of Georgia, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Homosexual activist clinches Libertarian presidential nomination And finally, Chase Oliver, a homosexual and political activist, won the Libertarian Party nomination for President over the weekend, reports CNN. He beat out former President Donald Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., both attempting to secure the Libertarian vote. Kennedy received 19 votes and Trump received six. Chase Oliver received 497 votes in the final tally or 60%. He supports the legalization of killing unborn babies and he is campaigning to abolish the death penalty for those who commit murder. Galatians 1:8 — Opening his sermon, Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones reads from Galatians 1:8. Within, the apostle ridicules the early church for believing another gospel, a gospel from man. But Paul makes himself clear: whoever teaches a different gospel from what Christ revealed, be it an angel or man, let that person be accursed. Dr. Lloyd-Jones explains that even today, false gospels are preached by men all over the contemporary world. The Bible is put on a shelf, and people forget its sound doctrine. The Christian message is adapted to fit man's view of the world. Dr. Lloyd-Jones explains the perilous problem with this practice. When man changes the Christian Gospel, or creates his own, he removes God from the picture. With God gone, man must rely on himself for his salvation and redemption. But, Dr. Lloyd-Jones says, the truth of the Bible has revealed that man will never be enough. It is not man who can save his soul but the blood of Jesus Christ. That is the true Gospel. The beauty of the Christian Gospel is that Christ comes to us in our sin, and He offers whoever believes upon Him unmeasurable grace and eternal life.

May 13, 2024 Today's Reading: Acts 1:12-26Daily Lectionary: Numbers 14:26-45; Numbers 15:1-41; Luke 18:35-19:10So one of the men who have accompanied us during all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from the baptism of John until the day when he was taken up from us - one of these men must become with us a witness to his resurrection. (Acts 1:21-22)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. Some skeptics like to throw shade at the Christian faith by comparing the life and work of the disciples to a game of telephone. The original message has been changed, corrupted, or misheard over time, so they say, or something like those lines. Readings like Acts 1 are a great reminder that this couldn't be further from the truth. The Christian Gospel, your faith, and the events of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection weren't passed down willy-nilly but with great care, attention to detail, and historical evidence. One of the important pieces of evidence in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus is the fact that there were eyewitnesses. And not just one, not even just the Twelve. Acts 1 reminds us that there were many other disciples who were present with Jesus for those three years. From the time of Jesus' baptism in the Jordan River to His ascension forty days after His resurrection. Not only that, Paul says, there were over five hundred more eyewitnesses after Jesus rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15). These disciples weren't playing a game; this was deadly serious. They saw Jesus dead on a Friday afternoon outside of Jerusalem, and they saw him again numerous times alive again before His ascension. The disciples, like Matthias, are reminders that the Christian faith is founded on fact, not fantasy. Jesus' death and resurrection are historical events, not hearsay. What Jesus did to save you was witnessed by men like Matthias and the women at the empty tomb. His promises are trustworthy and true. Jesus promised He would die and rise, and He did, just as He said. Jesus gave us disciples to faithfully, and at times under great peril to themselves, deliver accurately and reliably the Good News they witnessed. Thanks be to God that we have so many eyewitnesses who testified to His resurrection and still are witnesses to us today. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.Almighty God, grant that we who have celebrated the Lord's resurrection may by Your grace confess in our life and conversation that Jesus is Lord and God; through the same Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Mary Zahl was recently the guest on an episode of a podcast known as "The Brothers Zahl" (out this summer). The subject of the cast was parenting, and I can think of no better illustration of a good parent. Mary listed three core themes of enduring motherhood/fatherhood that feel utterly right to me. They are (1) complete dependability when your child is little; (2) no control or pressure when your child is growing -- let them or her pursue their own interests; and (3) try to detach from your grown child's life most of the time, tho' not always. Sometimes -- if very occasionally -- you may have to intervene. I was awed by my wife's reflections, the mother of our three grown sons. I also couldn't help theologizing a little, for each of her three themes has a direct relation to the Christian Gospel. (1) mirrors the One-Way Love of God's Grace. (2) suggests the continuing solution of Grace to the problem of Law. (3) connects the "Eastern"-sounding insight of non-attachment with the Christian fact of God's Incarnation -- God's personal intervention in this septic world. This cast is also a sort of pre-op moment for the Mockingbird Conference, which begins this Thursday in Manhattan. Do join us if you can. Mary and I will be there, and hundreds of others, too. I'll speak about parenting, tho' Mary (by my side) is the best authority on that front. This cast is dedicated to Larry Brudi and Bob Smith, and reverentially, to Dickey Betts.
Andrew Columbia was once a New York Police Department officer known by his colleagues by some rather unfortunate monikers: "Evil" and "Ice Man." The darkness in his eyes reflected the trauma and difficulty he witnessed day in and day out on the job.Columbia would often turn to alcohol for solace as he struggled to comprehend and cope with the horrors he observed. One night, it all came to a head on a New York City rooftop where Columbia screamed out to God — and had a radical encounter.Soon, the once-depressed and downtrodden cop was on a very different journey, turning to Jesus, seeking peace, and showing up to police calls to command demonic spirits out of people. From despair to deliverance, Columbia's journey of discovering, discerning, and combatting evil is captivating. Today, Columbia is a pastor in Carmel, New York, where he's continuing his mission of sharing his story and the Christian Gospel. He joins today's "Playing With Fire" to break it all down.MORE INFORMATION:- Want to know more? Have you ever that if you grew up as a conservative Christian, you were indoctrinated into a fear-based view of God and shame-based view of yourself? Or that the fundamentalist “Christian Gospel” damages children by telling them that they are born into this world intrinsically bad and repulsive to God, learning that their sinfulness is to blame for the brutalization, torture, and death of God's son? Well this is exactly what Jim Palmer, the chaplain for the American Humanist Association who also holds the title of Founder of The Center for Non-Religious Spirituality says. In today's episode, Alisa and Natasha unpack some of these claims.
How can Paul make such bold denunciations-- What is so special about the Christian Gospel--

The "He Gets Us" Super Bowl ad ignited a fury in Christian circles. Was it a helpful evangelistic tool — or a watered-down attempt at sharing the Christian Gospel? Jason Vanderground, co-creator of the "He Gets Us" campaign, sits down with Billy Hallowell to respond to some of the toughest critiques of the campaign, and to share the reason he believes it is a powerful tool to reach non-Christians.FOLLOW BILLY ON SOCIAL MEDIA:- Follow Billy on Twitter- Follow Billy on Instagram- Follow Billy on Facebook
Listen to a recording of Pastor Nathan's recent Adult Bible Class. What are the marks of true conversion? This question is important to everyone, including Christian parents. This class will look to Scripture to consider: • how daily parenting can prepare children to make sense of the gospel; • how to clearly and simply explain the gospel; • how to evaluate spiritual fruit; • and how to respond to a child's profession of faith.
Are the Jews, even in light of Christ's death and resurrection, still in some way the chosen people of God? If so, how should we understand them and their role in God's providence? Who are the true Jews and what role do Jews and Judaism have in the prophesied rise of Antichrist? Note from Metropolitan Vitaly (+,2006) Chief Hierarch of ROCOR, 1986-2001:"The author of the following article lives in Russia. We received it some years back. The whole tone of the article in composes, discrete, and sober. Its ideas are profound, clear, and in complete agreement with the teaching of the Orthodox Church and the Holy Fathers." This article is found in Orthodox Life, Vol. 41, No. 4, Jul-Aug 1991. Orthodox Life is the journal of Holy Trinity Monastery and Seminary in Jordanville, NY, USA. -READ the article here: https://orthodoxlifemagazines.blogspot.com/ -FIND an Orthodox parish and monastery near you: https://orthodoxyinamerica.org/ _______ Quotes from this article: If the Old Testament is understood as a foreshadowing, then one sees that the true Jews of the Old Testament are a foreshadowing of Christians, since all true Jews of the Old Testament are a foreshadowing of Christians, since all true Jews of the Old Testament lived spiritually in expectation of Christ the Savior, the Messiah. On the other hand, their enemies in the Old Testament are a foreshadowing of contemporary Judaism, that is, those who either consciously or unconsciously confess the Jewish religion, the very foundation of this religion being a rejection of Christ [Once one accepts the Christian Gospel, traditional Judaism loses its validity]. The Jewish religion which accepts Christ is the Christian religion. The first decree, the covenant with the Jewish people made to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, is never revoked, and therefore, in remaining a “special, different” people, since they do not accept Christianity, they repudiated their being the chosen people of God.… Even those Jews who do not accept Christianity, being infected by the bacillus of anti-Christianity, manage to preserve their identity supported by the Old Testament covenant. For this reason the hope of the Jews for universal supremacy is not in vain. This people will be preserved through all times; they will not be exterminated nor will they disintegrate. This Jewish materialistic approach openly and more subtly, under the appearance of various social theories and philosophical systems, encroaches upon the consciousness of Christians, breaking down Christian nations. In particular the penetration into the Christian consciousness of this Judaistic idea explains many heresies, the rise of Islam, the substitution of Christianity with humanism, altruism, Marxism, and separatist nationalism. What common denominator do some people seek in order to equalize black and white, Christianity and Judaism? — Judaism being a deified materialistic philosophy of earthly justice, worldly good, earthly freedom, and worldly well-being. Just as the deification of one's aspiration for all that which is worldly comes from Judaism, for the Christian that which is worldly is used only in so much as it is necessary in one's striving for the spiritual. It therefore follows that those who strive to equalize Judaism and Christianity, black and white, using the worldly as a basis, allow the spirit of Judaism to conquer them. In other words, having exchanged Christian spiritual goals for worldly ones, those that call themselves Christians lose that which distinguishes them from Jews and thus seek a union with Judaism, [perhaps unconsciously] rejecting Christ. They become co-workers in preparing for the kingdom of Antichrist. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/orthodox-wisdom/message
There's a plague running rampant in Western society. But there's no vaccine, no shot you can take. But it's the infection causing so many other problems including crime, homelessnes, drug addiction, even suicide. The plague's name: fatherlessness. More poignantly, it's fatherhood abandonment. Men walking out on their children and the mothers who bore them, either through divorce or dysfunction. And what's the root cause? John Smithbaker says it's men's inability to forgive. Is it that simple, that forgiveness is the antidote? Forgiveness is the foundation of the Christian Gospel, Jesus dying on a cross to bridge the chasm between loving God and a sinful humanity. But forgiving in relationships is probably the most difficult for humanity to emulate. On this episode of Lighthouse Faith podcast, Smithbaker, the founder of Fathers in the Field, talks about his book, "Man Enough to Forgive," and why he created his organization: "To help men recapture their divinely assigned roles of pastor, provider and protector in the home as well as the church." Luke 2:1 — Every Christmas season a battle rages. For Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones the battle rages over the historical facts about the birth of Christ. While many deny the facts of Christmas altogether, Dr. Lloyd-Jones says there is a much more dangerous message distributed among the culture during the Christmas season. It is a message which says that it does not matter whether the Son of God actually was born in a particular location and in a particular year. Whether the birth of Christ is true or historical makes no difference at all because we can still say we have a noble teaching in the Christmas story, and it can still help people have a better life. This psychologizing of the Christmas message, says Dr. Lloyd-Jones, sounds wonderful, but in the end it is the most hopeless message the world has ever heard. Why? Because sinful humanity is left with nothing but an exhortation to live a moral life. But the historical, biblical facts of the Christian Gospel is about what God has actually done in time through the Son of God. In this Christmas Day sermon, Dr. Lloyd-Jones expounds the relationship of the Lord Jesus Christ to time, emphasizing that the Son of God was before time, manifested in time, come late in time, in the fullness of time, is himself the center of time, and will come back to end time! Listen as Dr. Lloyd-Jones battles for the true Christmas message in this sermon on Luke 2:1.
"We actually believe that drastic and authentic transformation is at the core of the Christian Gospel. In the spirit of Colossians 3, we believe God desires communities of his people who are growing in compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and forgiveness. And love is the preeminent virtue they offer to each other and to this broken and fractured and hurting world. This love binds them together in unbreaking unity. These divinely cultivated character qualities are being lived out and put on display by the people of God. And we actually believe—here at Oak Hills—that our calling as individuals and as a church is to put on these character qualities in an authentic way, so they become part of who we are, and they flow out of us, and both individually and communally, we reflect the beautiful and character of Jesus to this hurting world."

QUOTES FOR REFLECTION“Sadly, many of the things that undermine our joy and happiness, we create ourselves. Often it comes from the negative tendencies of the mind or emotional reactivity…”~Desmond Tutu & Dalai Lama “Unbelief doesn't see God as the ultimate good. So it can't see sin as the ultimate evil. It instead sees sin as a good thing and thus God's commands as a stumbling block to joy. In believing the devil, I didn't need a pentagram pendant to wear, neither did I need to memorize a hex or two. All I had to do was trust myself more than God's Word. I had to believe that my thoughts, my affections, my rights, my wishes, were worthy of absolute obedience and that in laying prostrate before the flimsy throne I'd made for myself, that I'd be doing a good thing.”~Jackie Hill Perry “I sometimes wonder whether all pleasures are not substitutes for joy.”~C.S. Lewis “As the early church fathers delighted in saying, Christ took what was ours so that we might receive what was His.”~Sinclair B. Ferguson “The Christian Gospel is that I am so flawed that Jesus had to die for me, yet I am so loved and valued that Jesus was glad to die for me. This leads to deep humility and deep confidence at the same time. It undermines both swaggering and sniveling. I cannot feel superior to anyone, and yet I have nothing to prove to anyone. I do not think more of myself nor less of myself. Instead, I think of myself less.”~Tim Keller “There is a marvelous medicinal power in joy. Most medicines are distasteful; but this, which is the best of all medicines, is sweet to the taste, and comforting to the heart. This blessed joy is very contagious. One dolorous spirit brings a kind of plague into the house; one person who is wretched seems to stop all the birds from singing wherever he goes . . . [But] the grace of joy is contagious. Holy joy will oil the wheels of your life's machinery. Holy joy will strengthen you for your daily labor. Holy joy will beautify you and give you an influence over the lives of others.”~Charles SpurgeonSERMON PASSAGEPhilippians 2:1-11 (ESV)1 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, 2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Men want only the strong, the successful, the victorious, the unbroken, in building their kingdoms; but God is the God of the unsuccessful, of those who have failed. Heaven is filling with earth's broken lives, and there is no bruised reed that Christ cannot take and restore to glorious blessedness and beauty. PackerSERMON PASSAGELuke 22:24-32, John 21:15-24 (ESV)Luke 22 24 A dispute also arose among them, as to which of them was to be regarded as the greatest. 25 And he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those in authority over them are called benefactors. 26 But not so with you. Rather, let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves. 27 For who is the greater, one who reclines at table or one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But I am among you as the one who serves. 28 “You are those who have stayed with me in my trials, 29 and I assign to you, as my Father assigned to me, a kingdom, 30 that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 31 “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat, 32 but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.”John 2115 When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 16 He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” 17 He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. 18 Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go.” 19 (This he said to show by what kind of death he was to glorify God.) And after saying this he said to him, “Follow me.” 20 Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them, the one who also had leaned back against him during the supper and had said, “Lord, who is it that is going to betray you?” 21 When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?” 22 Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!” 23 So the saying spread abroad among the brothers that this disciple was not to die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not to die, but, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?” 24 This is the disciple who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things, and we know that his testimony is true.
We hear the hate coming from the nonaffirming church about things like drag queen storytimes, transgender bathroom laws, and more… all disguised in the “we care about the children” lie! Disgusting and indefensible. Just to be clear – it has NOTHING to do with children. Kids are being used in a transparent attempt to hide hate and bigotry. Period. So, what are the REAL threats to children? What does real damage to kids? The pop-Christian gospel. Today, we give you 8 ways that the pop-Christian gospel damages children.Support the show
What could really do it? What could actually revive the beneficent influence of the Christian Gospel on our current masochistic/sadistic world? "What Does It Take/To Win Your Love for Me" (Junior Walker, 1969). That is the question of this cast: What might need to happen in order for the unique vision of New Testament faith and hope to "re-enchant" the world? One's attention was drawn recently to the martyrdom at Carthage, in 203 A.D., of St. Perpetua. Her journal, the personal account of her trial for the capital crime of being a Christian in that place and time, is the only document of its kind preserved from Classical (i.e., Greco-Roman) culture that was written by a woman. It is entirely genuine and also entirely unique. Plus, the final chapter, which was written by an observer of Perpetua's death in the arena, is as shocking, in my opinion, as almost anything you will ever read concerning the physicality of martyrdom. What happened to Perpetua is a certain confirmation of "Low Anthropology". Perpetua's death -- she was a single mother, aged 22 -- made a huge difference in the perception of Christianity by the people of North Africa. In fact, the difference it made was decisive. Thousands of everyday people were shaken by her courage and her explicit faithfulness. I believe the fortunes of the Church would change overnight if someone were willing to die for their faith, were willing to give up even their physical life for it. This doesn't seem to be happening in the West. I hope it will -- tho' I recognize that's easy to say. (What if the lot should fall on Mary's and my door? "Fuh-get about it!"?) Listen to Billy Preston now, from 1971. "(God) promised to exalt us/But low is the way." Podcast 347 is dedicated to my friend Steven Berzin.
It's Valentine's Day, Tuesday, February 14th, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Pakistani Muslims killed two Christians Random killings of professing Christian believers continue in Pakistan. Last month, one man was killed by Muslims when he had attempted to stop them from stealing his guava fruit. And now, a Catholic father of six, Emmanuel Masih, was beaten to death by a Muslim landowner who falsely claimed he took oranges from his grove, reports Morning Star News. Pray for Emmanuel's family which has lost its only breadwinner. Pakistani teen girl abducted, forcibly married to 60-year-old Muslim And here's yet another story of an abducted Christian girl in Pakistan. This time, a 15-year-old daughter was abducted and forcibly married to a 60-year-old Muslim, reports Morning Star News. Saira Arif was kidnapped on December 15 by Rana Tayyab in the Yousafabad area of Faisalabad, Pakistan. After nearly two months of appeals, the Pakistan police finally registered the case. Forbes Magazine has reported that at least 1,000 women from religious minorities are forcibly converted and married annually in the country. Will there ever be any justice served in this dark and evil land of Pakistan? According to Open Doors, it is the seventh most difficult country worldwide to be a Christian. Pray for the Christian Gospel to make it to this poor country. Hindu mob in India attacks Christians, leaving 2,500 homeless Things are getting tougher for Christians in India as well. Violent attacks by radical Hindus over the last two months have left 2,500 Christians homeless. And the government is doing little to address it. According to International Christian Concern, a Christian leader from the north said, “No worship service on Sunday is taking place in the villages of Narayanpur and Kondagaon districts. Christians are traumatized and constantly living under fear and intimidation. Their survival is looking very grim on the ground; they need prayers and a helping hand.” Canadian pastors vindicated for in-person services during COVID Here's good news for Christian churches in Canada. A Canadian court has dismissed charges against pastors in Ontario and New Brunswick for holding in-person church services during the COVID-19 crisis. Pastors Phillip James Hutchings of His Tabernacle Family Church in Saint John and Pastor Aaron Rock of Harvest Bible Church in Windsor have been vindicated. Earthquake fatalities in Turkey/Syria soar to 35,000 The fatalities resulting from last week's earthquake in Turkey and Syria now exceed 35,000. That's the deadliest earthquake since the Haitian earthquake of 2010 where 100,000 to 300,000 people died. An estimated 800,000 people have died in earthquakes thus far this century. 163,000 have died in hurricanes and cyclones. Meanwhile, 30 million died of HIV/AIDS in this century; 7 million of COVID 19 according to Worldometers, and about 30 million have died by tuberculosis. These have been the most serious pandemic diseases and causes of death by acts of God since the turn of the century. That's the second Super Bowl win for Kansas City in four years. Mahomes, the youngest quarterback to start three Super Bowls, was given the MVP award for the game. It turns out he is an outspoken Christian, reports SportsSpectrum.com. Listen to part of his testimony he gave shortly before playing the Super Bowl in Phoenix. MAHOMES: “My Christian faith plays a role in everything that I do. Now, I always ask God to lead me in the right direction and let me be who I am in His name. So, it has a role in everything that I do. And obviously it will be on a huge stage and a Super Bowl that he's given me and I want to make sure I'm glorifying him while I do it.” Mahomes discussed his strategy. MAHOMES: “It's about just playing for your teammates, just trying to do whatever you can to win the game for your teammates beside you. And, in that moment, God gave me the strength to run and get that first down and get us in the field-goal range.” Few Gen Zers are conservative, yet nearly 20% attend church A recent report on Gen Z-ers produced by the Walton Family Foundation found only 10% of young people between the ages of 15 and 25 years old call themselves conservative, compared to 26% of older adults over 26 years of age. But 18% of Gen Zers still attend church regularly, and that's similar to the rest of the population. A slightly higher percent of Gen Zers claim to be Evangelical compared with the older population. Yet only 9% claim to be liberal Protestant, while 23% of the older population claim to be liberal Protestant. And 16% of Gen Zers identify with some kind of perverted sexuality, compared to 4% of the older population. Is revival breaking out in Wilmore, Kentucky? Kentucky Today reports on an extended revival service taking place at Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky. It's gone on now five days longer than initially scheduled. Asbury College was the site of another revival in 1970. How do you know if this is a true, efficacious work of the Holy Spirit? The article quotes Tim Beougher, the pastor of West Broadway Baptist Church and a professor at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He said, “It's not how high you jump, it's how straight you walk when you land. It's the fruit that comes from it.” Psalm 85 brings out this prayer: “Wilt thou not revive us again: that Thy people may rejoice in Thee? Show us Thy mercy, O Lord, and grant us Thy salvation.” Penguin fossil from 7-foot, 350-pound bird before worldwide flood And finally, paleontologists have found the remains of a huge penguin, probably a species that existed before God destroyed the world in Noah's flood.
