Money does not just matter for personal discipleship, it also matters for our common mission as the church. Disobedient or poorly taught disciples in this area produce a church that is starved in its ability to do it's spiritual mission by a lack of physical resources. But faithful and obedient discipleship fuels the mission of the church, enhances its impact and in the process shines a light to the world that is not just radically counter cultural but compellingly beautiful as it showcases the generous heart of God himself. This week Andrew continues our Open Hands series, preaching from Luke 16:1-9Faithful giving is a tangible expression of trust in God and participation in His work. Tonight we see the disobedience of Jonah again as he is now raging at the compassion of the Lord towards the people of Nineveh. This passage reveals to us three things about Jonah: His Unnecessary anger, Undeservingly appointment, and Unmistakable application. Yet we are reminded that the story of Jonah is ultimately all about Jesus. Despite Jonah's attitude, we see the graciousness of God that He is not willing that any should perish but that all come to repentance. We are reminded as Christians that the Good News of the Gospel is for every generation and we should not hide it, hinder it or hold it back from those who need to hear it. Instead, we are to be devoted disciples and share the Good News!
This week and for the next few weeks we take a short break from our Genesis series to spend four weeks thinking about the Scriptural principles for generosity. Money does not just matter for personal discipleship, it also matters for our common mission as the church. We are not owners; we are stewards. Generosity begins with recognising God's total ownership.Sermon by Andrew Grills

One of the most dangerous spiritual conditions is not open rebellion. It's almost obedience. In First Samuel 15, King Saul appears to obey God's command… but he quietly keeps what he wants. From the outside, it looks like obedience. But when the prophet Samuel arrives, he asks a devastating question:“What then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears?”This sermon explores:• Why partial obedience is still disobedience• How we rationalize compromise• Why religious activity cannot replace obedience• The tragic downfall of King SaulGod does not desire empty sacrifice. He desires surrendered hearts.
From Ephesians 5:5-7, We see that God wants us to be convinced, and not be deceived by empty teachers, about His hatred of sin.
In this episode we talk about how we carry so many things that we end up being exhausted and how that unbalance can lead to disobedience.

Episode 108 - The 1st part is in English, and the 2nd part is in Malayalam starting 13:50 mark. When sin increases and the wrath of God is imminent, instead of destroying them quickly, God warns through someone. Throughout the Bible we see God speaking through several prophets. The people of Ninevah were not afraid of God, and they immersed in sin. God wanted to save the people of Ninevah from sin and destruction. God chose Jonah to convey the message of repentance and salvation. Jonah's message saved the city and its people. But the character of Jonah is not pleasing to God in many ways. His disobedience and selfishness caused problems to himself and others. My name... Cicilysunny@gmail.com

Tens of thousands of 'van lifers' and 'grey nomads' drive around Australia each year. But the iconic road trip has a surprising origin story involving a pair of missionaries, a retired butcher and a gun-slinging mother-daughter duo.David Riley is a pastor and father who was on a lap around Australia with his wife and three children when he heard about the surprising origin story of this great road trip.In 1925, two young men set off from Perth to Darwin in a tiny French car nicknamed 'Bubsie'.They were running an errand for their Church – instructed to set up a Seventh-Day Adventist Missionary outpost in the Northern Territory, then to turn around and come back home.Nevill Westwood and Greg Davies battled flat tires, evil cows, losing their way, leaky fuel tanks, dangerous river crossings and a falling out along the way. With the help of First Nations people and station owners they met along the way, they made it to Darwin. But when they got to Darwin, they just kept going, entering into a race with a retired butcher and a gun-slinging mother-daughter duo to become the first vehicle to circumnavigate Australia. For David, researching and writing the story down became a powerful way to preserve the memories of his own family's lap around Australia, after receiving terrible news.Bubsie and The Boys: The First Journey Around Australia by Car is published by SIGNS.Early next year, Bubsie's sister car, a 102-year-old Citroën, will drive around Australia for the 100th anniversary of the original journey. The trip will be raising money for Canteen and Brain Child. Information about the trip will be online early next year. This episode of Conversations was produced by Meggie Morris, executive producer is Nicola Harrison. It explores travel, road trips, Australian history, modern history, motoring history, great global road trips, grey nomads, caravanning, van life, historical records, religion, church, cancer, losing a daughter, brain cancer, grief, driving, driving Western Australia, madman's track, white history, black history.
In this sermon, Dave Patchin preaches from Nehemiah 5 as we look at how we can be doing things for God while still being disobedient to him.

Disobedient Generations and Lost Opportunities - Matthew 21:33-465 G Living – Do everything you do…For the Glory of GodFor the Good of your fellow manTo get the Gospel to non-believers For the Growth of your fellow ChristiansWith a Grateful heartToday we are going to see Jesus tell another parable story that rebuked the unrepentant generation that failed to give Jesus the glory due His name.Matthew 21:33-46 They would have instantly recognized the vineyard as a reference to Israel, and the Master of the house as God Himself (Isaiah 5:1-7).God has every right to expect all of us to give Him the glory He deserves, and be both faithful and fruitful stewards of what He Has entrusted to us.In Jesus' story the servants are obviously the prophets that God had sent to His people, many of whom were mistreated by people who didn't want to hear and obey the messages God sent through the prophets.Long ago at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed the Heir of all things, through whom also He created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature, and He upholds the universe by the word of His power. After making purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. - Hebrews 1:1-3Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush (daka-H1792) Him; He has put Him to grief; When His soul makes an offering for guilt, He shall see His offspring; He shall prolong His days; the will of the LORD shall prosper in His hand. Out of the anguish of His soul He shall see and be satisfied; by His knowledge shall the Righteous One, My Servant, make many to be accounted righteous, and He shall bear their iniquities. - Isaiah 53:10-11It is so sad that that generation missed Jesus their cornerstone. It is sadder still that for 2,000 years Jews have still been looking for the Messiah who has already come. It will be equally sad if today you despise Jesus and build on another foundation (Acts 4:5-12; 1 Peter 2:4-10)That generation lost the opportunity for national Israel, but the day will come when they Israel will turn to Jesus in mass and be fully restored. In the meantime the gospel goes forth to everyone, Jew and Gentile alike (Acts 1:6-8).For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite (daka-H1792) and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite (daka-H1792). - Isa. 57:15The religious leaders were supposed to bring God glory through their work in Israel. We are to bring God glory through our work in the church and in the world's “seven mountains of cultural influence” – family, church, government, education, media, arts/entertainment, and business.Jesus has delegated to us His power of attorney to represent Him while He is gone! How do you know you are doing it well? If you are doing what Jesus would do it if He was here, you are being faithful and fruitful!
For our final day this week, we are going to read a tough passage, but we'll also turn it around and end on a bright spot. Paul shared these words with Timothy in his second letter, chapter 3, verses 1-5:You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that! When you heard these words, did it sound like something from today's news feed? Love only themselves and their money? Boastful? Proud? Scoffing at God? Disobedient? Ungrateful? Nothing is sacred? This is exactly why God's Word is timeless and always current.Again we see how the love self, pride, pleasure and the pursuit of wealth is associated with a lack of godly character. The last verse even says the religious people will reject God's power. Now, let's take Paul's words, and as what would be in line with many of his other passages such as 1 Corinthians 13, for example, turn the phrases around to encourage ourselves to follow God and pursue Him, not the things of this world, to see our money merely as a means, not an end.For people must love God and not their money. They must not boast and be proud, or scoff at God, be disobedient to their parents, yet be grateful. Consider everything sacred. Be loving and forgiving; never slander others and always have self-control. Never be cruel. Love what is good. Never betray friends, be reckless, puffed up with pride, or love pleasure rather than God. Don't act religious, and reject the power that can make us godly. Hold strong to people like that!Pray with me: “Lord Jesus, thank You that You provide us with all that is good in this world and allow us the ability to stay away from what is harmful to us. There is always that choice. Thank You that You died to give us that choice. Help me to follow You and make my money a means, not an end. As above, so below.”
Disobedient Children and Second Chances - Matthew 21:28-32All the signs in first century Israel pointed to who Jesus was, but were ignored by those who said they did everything they did for God – we must not make the same mistake today!Matthew 21:28-32Last week Jesus showed us that one of the most effective ways to answer questions is with questions that make people think. Another great way to communicate truth is to tell stories that relate to the situation being asked about – Jesus shows us that this week! Two responses to Jesus in the parable of the two sons - V. 28-32The word for changed his mind in verse 29 is metamelomai (G3308). It's a compound of two words – the first being “after/afterward,” and the second being “care about.” It can be translated “Change of mind” or “REGRET.” Not too far down the Greek word tree we find metanoeo (G3340), which can be translated “change of mind” or “REPENT.”How can Jesus make the statement in verse 32, that sinful rebels will get into heaven before the religious leaders?Because the sinners far from God had recognized their lack of righteousness and need of the Savior, while the religious were trusting in their own righteousness and rejecting their Messiah. What was John the Baptist's “way of righteousness?”1. The call to repent of sinful self-focus and turn to God (Matt. 3:2).In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, “Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.” - Matt. 3:22. The call to turn to Jesus who takes away our sin (John 1:29).The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” - John 1:293. The call as a disciple to have Jesus increase in your life (John 3:30).He (Jesus) must increase, but I must decrease. - John 3:304. The call to bring forth fruit in keeping with repentance (Luke 3:8a).“Bear fruits in keeping with repentance.” - Luke 3:8a“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of Heaven, but the one who does the will of My Father who is in Heaven. On that day many will say to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in Your name, and do mighty works in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness.' - Matthew 7:21-23

We delve into the story of Saul's disobedience and its consequences for his kingship over Israel. Initially appointed as king and leading Israel to victory, Saul's failure to obey God's commands ultimately leads to his rejection as king. We explore the critical moment when Saul, out of fear and impatience, offers burnt offerings instead of waiting for the prophet Samuel, resulting in a severe rebuke and the loss of his kingdom. Contrasting Saul's disobedience, we highlight his son Jonathan's faith and bravery in launching a successful surprise attack against the Philistines, showcasing God's power to save by many or by few.Support the showRead along with us in the Bible Brief App! Introducing us properly to Beatrice Cenci who you may remember from Disobedient. When we look at the life of King Saul, we see how pride, insecurity, and disobedience slowly pulled him away from God and ultimately cost him everything. His story challenges us to think about the moments we choose our own way instead of trusting God's. It’s a real-life reminder that ignoring God’s direction can hurt our relationships, cloud our purpose, and lead us away from the life he wants for us.

Pentecost A Sermon by Brenard Rowe, Elder at Victory Church in Providence, RI. Introduction and Opening Remarks Expression of gratitude for the opportunity to minister. Acknowledgement and prayer for the pastor's recovery. Personal anecdote about being asked to preach on short notice. Setting the Context: Pentecost Sunday Explanation that Pentecost is recognized as the birth of the church and a pivotal event in Christian doctrine. Emphasis on the empowerment of the disciples by the Holy Spirit and the ongoing relevance of Pentecost. The Role and Power of the Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit transforms believers from fearful followers to bold witnesses. The Holy Spirit provides strength, peace, wisdom, unity, and equips believers for service. Biblical Foundation Reference to Acts 2:1-4 describing the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Jesus' instructions to wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:4-5, Acts 1:8). Importance of receiving the Holy Spirit before undertaking ministry. The Experience of the Early Church Disciples' state of confusion and despair after Jesus' death. Fulfillment of Jesus' promise through the coming of the Holy Spirit. The supernatural signs accompanying the Spirit's arrival (wind, tongues of fire, speaking in tongues). Speaking in Tongues Definition: A supernatural language for worship and communication with God. Old Testament examples of the Spirit coming upon individuals (e.g., Moses' elders, Gideon, Samson, Saul's messengers). New Testament affirmation of speaking in tongues as evidence of Holy Spirit baptism. Instances of Holy Spirit Baptism in the New Testament Jerusalem (Acts 2:4): Disciples receive the Holy Spirit. Samaria (Acts 8:14-17): Believers receive the Spirit through the apostles' laying on of hands. Saul/Paul (Acts 9:17): Receives the Spirit after Ananias lays hands on him. Cornelius' house (Acts 10:44-48): Gentiles receive the Holy Spirit while Peter preaches. Ephesus (Acts 19:1-6): Believers receive the Holy Spirit through Paul. Benefits of Being Filled with the Holy Spirit Power for ministry (Acts 1:8). Spiritual refreshing (Isaiah 28:11). Ability to witness and reveal Christ (John 16:13-14). Inner strength and comfort (John 15:26). Spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12:4-11). Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22). Spiritual quickening (Romans 8:11). Who Can Be Filled with the Holy Spirit? Everyone: Rich, poor, young, old, sinners, saints, children, etc. Reference to Psalm 81:10 as encouragement to receive. Who Cannot Be Filled with the Holy Spirit? Those satisfied with mere salvation and unwilling to serve. Disobedient and unyielding Christians. Those who do not believe or are closed off to the Holy Spirit. Conditions for Receiving the Holy Spirit Repentance and baptism (Acts 2:28). Asking God with faith (Luke 11:13). Deep conviction, consecration, and willingness to live for God (John 7:37-39). The Ongoing Work of the Holy Spirit in Believers Teaches and makes believers teachable. Enables true worship and confession. Guides prayer and leads by God's word. Conclusion The Holy Spirit is the comforter and helper sent by God. Encouragement to be open to the Holy Spirit's work and to fulfill commitments in service to God and the church.
Jesus famously healed lepers, but on one occasion something strange happened. He sternly told a leper to go straight to the priest. But the leper didn't listen to Jesus, and by this we learn an important prophetic warning about how this sin affects believers today. Who does the leper represent? Why did Jesus tell him to follow Leviticus? And why did he not listen?
