Let's talk about royalty—but not the kind you read about in tabloids. I'm talking about the kind that reigns in righteousness and power for eternity. God never wanted His people to be ruled by flawed human kings. But they begged: “Give us a king like the other nations!” And God said, “You're rejecting me as your King...but fine—don't say I didn't warn you.”Enter Saul—tall, impressive, charismatic… and tragically flawed. Disobedient. Prideful. A poster child for royalty without righteousness. He started strong, but ended his life on his own sword. Why? Because disobedience always destroys destiny. That's a word for some of you men—you can't lead well if you don't submit well. Then came David, the man after God's own heart. He was better. But he still fell. Adultery. Murder. A broken home. His life is a reminder that God uses flawed people—not because they're perfect, but because they trust Him. If you've messed up, there's still redemption in Jesus.

Laylla and Chelle welcome the very witchy author Judika Illes for a magical conversation. They talk about her newest book, "Witches: A Compendium," a beautifully crafted tribute to witches across history who dared to embrace their power and walk their own unique paths. From ancient enchantresses to modern-day magic makers, this book is a celebration of all things witchy and wise.Of course, no chat with Judika would be complete without mentioning her iconic magical tome, "the encyclopedia of 5000 spells." The book so massive it could double as a doorstop, a weapon, or an altar in a pinch! They share some laughs about its legendary size while also honoring the incredible depth of magic packed into those pages. The witches also share a secret dream of becoming the scary witch who lives alone in the woods...you know, the one people whisper about with equal parts fear and fascination. Of course, Laylla and Chelle agree they'd totally share a cozy cottage in the forest together because, let's face it, being scary is way more fun with your best witch by your side! This episode is a magical blend of wisdom, humor, and heartfelt reflections on the importance of staying true to yourself and boldly reclaiming the title of witch, especially in today's world. So grab your grimoire, light a candle, and get ready for a conversation that's as powerful as a perfectly cast spell... and just as fun!https://www.instagram.com/judikailles/https://www.youtube.com/user/JudikaIlleshttps://www.facebook.com/AuthorJudikaIlles/https://www.linkedin.com/in/judikailles*This episode has been edited for time and clarityGot a question? 2 Thessalonians charges out of the gate by discussing two of the scariest subjects in Scripture: hell and the antichrist. Both of these frightening subjects carry a message of hope for the church experiencing a sampling of hell and antichrist-like figures.
By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient. (Hebrews 11:31) As pastor Michael pointed out yesterday, we've skipped over 40 years in the wilderness between the Red Sea and Jericho. Or at least—that section of time is skipped over here in chapter 11's litany of faith. But the time of wilderness testing did figure earlier in the book of Hebrews, quite prominently in fact. So why doesn't it show up here? Because the writer considers the wilderness to have been a time not of faith, but of disobedience. This is what we read in chapter 3: “Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? And with whom was [the Lord] angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies perished in the wilderness? And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.” (Hebrews 3:16-19) The author uses the same word—disobedient—in our verse today: Rahab, the woman of faith is contrasted with “those who were disobedient.” We presume that the “disobedient” must refer to the other inhabitants of Jericho who died. Maybe. But if we remember back to the book of Joshua—there were also disobedient Israelites killed in the Jericho affair. If Joshua, chapter 6 told the story of Rahab's faith that literally stood out amid the crumbling walls of Jericho, chapter 7 tells us of the disobedience of Achan who grabbed plunder from Jericho's fallen ruins in direct defiance of God's command. Achan held on to Jericho rather than God and perished. Rahab held onto God rather than Jericho and lived. We can often presume that the faithful are the ones inside the church and people of God. The Bible rarely sees it that way. Very often the wicked and disobedient are mixed up within the people of God and it's the foreigners and sinners like Rahab the Prostitute who witness to God's people about what it means to be people of faith. This is the story here. The distinction between outsiders and insiders is obliterated like the walls of Jericho. What matters is not whether you were born to Abraham or within the church—what matters is the faith of Abraham and the faith of the church. All of us are “the disobedient,” and whether in the church or out of it, we remain so UNLESS we place our faith in God. This is the distinction that matters. Will you let go of all other forms of wealth and security and hold on to nothing but God, in faith that he alone will save? Rahab had such a faith, and was saved. It happened right there in the very moment of Jericho's fall: her life was held secure even as all else crumbled around her. God made a way for her where there was no way, just like he did for Israel as they crossed the sea. He still does the same today for all who cling to him in faith. As you journey on, go with the blessing of God: May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you : wherever he may send you. May he guide you through the wilderness : protect you through the storm. May he bring you home rejoicing : at the wonders he has shown you. May he bring you home rejoicing : once again into our doors.

The Splendid Reign of Solomon | Venita Jones--Outline
For our final day this week, we are going to read a tough passage, but we'll also turn it around and end on a bright spot. Paul shared these words with Timothy in his second letter, chapter 3, verses 1-5: You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that! When you heard these words, did it sound like something from today's news feed? Love only themselves and their money? Boastful? Proud? Scoffing at God? Disobedient? Ungrateful? Nothing is sacred? This is exactly why God's Word is timeless and always current. Again we see how the love self, pride, pleasure and the pursuit of wealth is associated with a lack of godly character. The last verse even says the religious people will reject God's power. Now, let's take Paul's words, and as what would be in line with many of his other passages such as 1 Corinthians 13, for example, turn the phrases around to encourage ourselves to follow God and pursue Him, not the things of this world, to see our money merely as a means, not an end. For people must love God and not their money. They must not boast and be proud, or scoff at God, be disobedient to their parents, yet be grateful. Consider everything sacred. Be loving and forgiving; never slander others and always have self-control. Never be cruel. Love what is good. Never betray friends, be reckless, puffed up with pride, or love pleasure rather than God. Don't act religious, and reject the power that can make us godly. Hold strong to people like that! Pray with me: “Lord Jesus, thank You that You provide us with all that is good in this world and allow us the ability to stay away from what is harmful to us. There is always that choice. Thank You that You died to give us that choice. Help me to follow You and make my money a means, not an end. As above, so below.”

Your sin can become a national crisis. Welcome to the Daily Devo. I am Vince Miller. This week, we are reading 1 Samuel 4. I've titled this chapter "Misusing Divine Power." In the first few verses of Chapter 4, we discover that the Israelites were at war with the Philistines. They engaged in two battles sustaining devastating losses, first 7000 dead, then 30,000 dead, until the Philistines claimed victory, captured the Ark of God, and then sent the Israelites running. A man of Benjamin ran from the battle line and came to Shiloh the same day, with his clothes torn and with dirt on his head. When he arrived, Eli was sitting on his seat by the road watching, for his heart trembled for the ark of God. And when the man came into the city and told the news, all the city cried out. When Eli heard the sound of the outcry, he said, “What is this uproar?” Then the man hurried and came and told Eli. — 1 Samuel 4:12-14 This is a tragic moment for Israel. In a short devotional, it's tough to capture how devastated God's people might have felt. The unnamed Benjamite makes the 20-mile run retreating from the battle and shows up wearing all the signs of a man in mourning “with his clothes torn and dirt on his head.” The only way to capture the feeling of this moment is to imagine that you receive a call in the next few moments that your spouse or child was killed and then multiply it by 37,000. That's the message this man delivered to this city: 37,000 souls lost on the field of battle, including sons, husbands, and fathers. But let's not forget that all of this stemmed from the apathy of one man. Eli, the last in a long line of Judges, allowed his sons to continue to act in disobedience until finally, they did the unthinkable. They took the Ark of the Covenant from the House of the Lord into battle, which led to slaughter. Disobedient actions concern God, but so does disobedient inaction. Eli had plenty of time to deal with his sons' disobedience, but he didn't. He was apathetic. He took no action, and his inaction was counted as disobedience. This devious sin had devastating consequences for him, his family, his legacy, and 37,000 families who were also impacted. Listen carefully: your sin never only affects you. Disobedient action and disobedient inaction have consequences for everyone. Here's the application. Don't be spiritually apathetic to God today. Address your secret sin and stop hiding it. Address the issue in your marriage that you still need to address. Address your child who is acting in sin. Move from disobedient inaction into obedient action and rally those around you to godly action. If you keep putting it off, that situation will have the same devastating consequences in your life as it did to Eli, his family, and the nation of Israel because your apathy never affects only you; it affects everyone around you.

Sometimes suffering lasts…and where is God in this? How do we find joy, hope, and love when life becomes undone? These are two questions that I've sat with over the last few months. In this episode, I set some groundwork for our next series “When Life Doesn't Make Sense” and give you a glimpse of some of the guests I'll be hosting on the podcast over the next several weeks. In many of our Christian contexts, we've internalized a belief that we demonstrate holiness by demonstrating happiness. I share some raw and honest reflections on my story as I trace the threads of this belief throughout my own life up to this point. However, as I've taken a deeper look at the life of Jesus, I'm learning that emotions are not the opposite to faithfulness. They can actually be a compass, leading us to a God who is present, even in suffering.
