We don’t go into business with small goals. We go into business wanting to make a bigger impact. Yet, most of us revert back to the trial and error approach, instead of following proven methods to success. Successful leaders don’t just teach people what works, they teach people how they think. It’s developing the right mindsets for the right situation that helps us win. Today, I’m going to teach you the 6 keys that will help you transform your thought process, focus on your audience, and win your market. The Conversation: 9:12 - #1 Be clear on your Audience -”Who do you want to serve, who are you best suited for, and who do you care about? 11:35 - #2 Hire a leader with credibility - "You're going to have to be the leader, or you're going to have to to find one. “Success will hinge on your leadership” 13:53 - A leader with credibility is going to have empathy with your client 15:06 - #3 Commit to thought leadership - “For me, I’m not committed to a vertical unless I’m committed to thought leadership.” 17:50 - #4 Build a megaphone - Figure out how you're going to get your ideas out to your audience… Trade associations, Trade publications, Brand ambassadors, and more. 21:15 - #5 Design your offers 25:54 - #6 Build your brand - “Your name and what you stand for needs to be clear to the market...continue to consistently deliver on what it is that you offer the world.”
Hiring & Firing. These two words can bring anxiety and other mixed emotions to any business owner. It’s never easy, it’s not always fun, and there’s plenty of room for error. But thankfully, there’s also room for great opportunities… opportunities for growth and expansion, flexibility and freedom. Today, I’m going to teach you my 8-step framework for transitioning employees, the same exact one I use to guide CEOs at Cathedral Consulting, so you can get the right people on your team and build a meaningful, valuable business, the right way. The Conversation: 5:27 - The biggest mistakes most employers make when it comes to hiring... 7:54 - “Hire Slow, Fire Fast.” 8:52 - Staff require care and feeding 9:45 - You’ve been promoted to Chief Reminding Officer. 10:26 - Why you can't scale without people. 12:27 - What do you do when it's just not working out? 16:22 - Make the hard decision and go with your gut. 18:02 - "It's not the ones you fire that will drive you nuts" 20:09 - Treating others with dignity - The right way to fire someone. 24:32 - Debriefing...

Today, I’m going to teach you a framework for Solving Problems. One of my favorite leadership questions is, “What problem are we trying to Solve?” Life is full of problems and nothing important gets done until some ambitious person gets a bit fed up and says… “I’m going to fix that.” This framework is tried and true and can be applied to any area of your business. Listen, learn, and implement! The Conversation: 01:49 - Moment of Truth: Comparison is the thief of joy. 05:57 - Step #1: Face the problem. Get in touch with the WHY behind your problem and decide that you’re going to focus on solving it. 06:56 - Step #2: Clarity of Thought. Bring it to a mentor, a coach, your spouse, or your peers. 08:41 - Step #3: Get Clear on Leadership. You have to decide who has the ball. 09:24 - Step #4: Resources. Assess the tools you have to work with. What are the resources that I can access as a solopreneur or corporate executive? 10:22 - Step #5: The Plan. An assessment of the realistic resources you have should come first. 11:49 - Step #6: The Management Phase. Why do good plans sometimes fail to lead to results? 13:18 - Step #7: A Feedback Loop. Measuring results and implementing improvements. Resources For You: Questions for Seth? Trevor Mauch is back with us for part two of our interview where we break down everything from habits to coaching to mindset - everything we’re doing to stay consistent and focused while successfully lead our organizations. Trevor Mauch, is the CEO of Carrot, Oregon’s fastest-growing software company and #699 on the Inc 5000 list. He’s a hardcore entrepreneur and he joins us today to share his story of how he’s managed to turn what was once just a spark of an idea into a highly-profitable and impactful brand with over 25 employees (and over 5,000 clients!) nationwide. We have an invigorating conversation about the growing pains he’s had to go through and why, unlike his past ventures, he can still see himself running this company 5-10 years out. The Conversation: 6:08 - What’s the difference between transactional leadership and transformational leadership? Transactional leadership worked for Trevor until Carrot hit around the $1 million revenue mark. It’s reacting and delegating. It’s creating basic processes for how to complete tasks. Transformational leadership is empowering and unleashing your team, ultimately freeing you up from small tasks. It’s done by asking “What’s the outcome we're looking for? and “What’s the way we measure success?” and “What’s blocking you?” Write down where they're blocked and invest in the time to train them on decision making, then design a process that guides them through the right questions to ask. 24:14 - Trevor never used to be a morning person. Who can relate? A habit tracker is the key tool that changed it for him. 30:28 - Accountability can be misconstrued. You can create it for yourself through social pressure, measurements, and honesty. 33:06 - Let’s wrap it up. Consistency can be perceived as boring. In reality, consistency in our lives unleashes the best innovation and creativity. Find your habit triggers, find them, make them convenient, and get the conviction to become the leader you need to be. Resources For You: Learn more about Trevor’s company Carrot. The struggle is what happens when you get there. 13:00 - Many of us as entrepreneurs tend to “cycle” every 3-5 years or so and get bored of the very thing that we create. We need to practice patience and persistence and focus on what resources that we have right in front of us. Become an expert in one thing before branching out and focus on niching down in your industry. 18:20 - Make yourself “less relevant”.
