This week's entry to the Local Selection Mix Series welcomes esteemed Subject resident Niall Cleary. The massively talented and ever-consistent DJ has put forward a sensational mix featuring 57 tracks with a host of Irish and international talent throughout. Niall has been a key cog in the Dublin techno machine since the early 2000s when nights like Electric City and venues such as Redbox and the old Tivoli Theatre were in their prime. A student of the fast, loop-driven techno from the late 90s, and early 2000s eras, his sets are high energy, full of fast transitions and expert blends. Since late 2009, Niall has been a resident DJ with the renowned Subject events, playing alongside some of the biggest names in house, techno, and electro, as well as appearances at clubs and festivals such as District 8, Index, Twisted Pepper, Life, and Electric Picnic. Niall also holds a residency on Dublin Digital Radio where he plays alongside Mutate Events who host a bi-monthly techno show on Thursday nights where they focus on showcasing emerging and already-established Irish artists. Having played alongside techno stalwarts Dave Clarke, Paula Temple, Surgeon, DJ Bone, Jeff Mills, DVS1, Juan Atkins, Karenn, and more, Niall's pedigree in providing a classy warm-up set is frankly second to none. Niall's skill behind a pair of turntables is not restricted to serving up the starters, as he's been frequently found dishing out peak-time tools at numerous Irish festivals including Life Festival, Electric Picnic, and more. Niall's entry to the Local Selection features a range of brilliant artists that include SHDW & Obscure Shape, Alarico, Truncate, Lars Huismann, Tommy Holohan, Doug Cooney, Aero, Mode_1, Slam, Casper Hastings, and more throughout and just coming in at just over 2 hours in length. Making for a thoroughly enjoyable techno workout. Sorted. Web: www.fourfourmag.com/ The Local Selection series returns to the techno capital of Ireland, Mullingar, as Mutate boss man Jay Carroll steps for an impressive 2 hour mix with an array of techno delights. Jay began DJing at ripe age of 16 and by 18 he was asked to be resident at Disco Nouveau, a long running underground club night in his hometown of Mullingar. Fast forward a couple of years and he was invited to be resident at Twelfth Planet until he decided to begin his own journey as an independent promoter. With a career spanning well over a deacde Jay has graced some of Irelands most iconic venues such as; Tripod, The Tivoli Theatre, The Twisted Pepper and more. The Twisted Pepper (now Wigwam) has been home to many of Jay's show's and provided cathartic techno experiences for many punters. Since 2013 Mutate Events has been focused on bringing quality techno to Dublin with such artists as; Jeroen Search, Roman Lindau, Lewis Fautzi, Stefan Vincent, Abstract Division, Tensal, Abdulla Rashim, Tripeo, Mama Snake, Volvox, Amotik, Jamaica Suk, Rune Bagge, Héctor Oaks, Silent Servant, UVB, Charlton, RIVET along with many, many more. You get the jist…Jay most definitely knows what he's at. Working alongside and garnering support from some of the longest running nights Ireland has to offer such as Jamie Behan's Bastardo Electrico, Subject, Life Festival & Research, he has given his all to promoting a vibrant underground scene for the capital. He has a bi-weekly radio show on Ireland's number one online radio station, alongside his residents, UNTHINK, Corner, Exit the Void & Niall Cleary on Dublin Digital Radio, where he showcases the best upcoming talent Ireland's techno scene has to offer. This mix offers a slice of what Jay is all about, an ensemble of techno of various sorts rolled into a warped two hour trip. Jay made a point of playing unreleased music from various Irish producers including Aero, Fyun, David O'neil, Offtrack and more. A smooth yet carnivorous trip around Jay's back catalogue leaves the listener on the edge of their seat, unsure of what gnarly turn the mix might take next. This is the techno equivalent of a page turner novel.

Today we premiere a track from one of Ireland's most talented but also under rated producers, Dan Ryan. Dan is back with another monumental self release, channelling classical musical sampling and intertwining it with symphonic breaks. Dan Ryan is a Dublin native and has been making music for years, with some of his older tracks such as Housewerk from 2012 still finding their ways onto dance floors to this day. The Dublin native has been making tunes and self releasing them for over a decade. The somewhat elusive Dublin born producer was a resident at Mr.Jones in Twisted Pepper. Dans style is hard to nail down. But expect lots of vocal samples and breaks. Dan's track ‘Something Positive' was a bonafide homegrown lockdown classic. The 2020 self release was accompanied by arbitrary clips, they come together to create an enlightening movement through the track. The track received massive support and praise throughout the Irish music community and within Four Four Mag too. ‘Everything In Its Place' picks up exactly where Dan left off. The latest single is a bold and brilliant breakbeat take on classical music. A concession of spiralling strings swarm the track and create an uneasy but somewhat uplifting atmosphere. It's an excellent use of sampling and complements the breakbeats and powerful bass excellently. SC: https://soundcloud.com/danryan724 Four Four Magazine

We've a special Sunday night thumper this evening, as we host a mix from two of Ireland's fastest paced techno DJs on the circuit, Josh Reid and the mysterious DJ Frequency. From Dublin to now residing in Berlin, the two talented DJs come together to showcase their excellent taste, thrown into 2 hours of all vinyl pumping, electric and fast paced techno. Josh Reid started out in Dublin almost 10 years ago with sets at the now closed Sweeneys, The Twisted Pepper, Hangar and The Button Factory, it was here that Josh developed his trademark quick-fire mixing and sharp ability to engage even the toughest of crowds. A move to New Zealand followed shortly after where he continued to build his sonic library before relocating to Berlin, where he’s currently based. DJ Frequency is part of the balaclava bearing DJ ‘Digital Indecency’ duo and is known for his style and taste, which can be best described as fast, heavy, pounding, loopy and absolutely energising. Frequency's fast paced, choppy mixing is a modern day resurgence of the 90’s techno style which he is inspired by. This bangs. Josh Red. There was a full house at the Twisted Pepper a few weeks ago for our action-packed discussion on the question of Dublin's creative edge. Prompted by an Irish Times column by Una Mullally which claimed that Dublin no longer had a cutting edge when it came to creativity, our panel - Sinead Kelly from Hunt & Gather, Richard Seabrooke from Thinkhouse and Offset, Dave Smith from MABOS and Una herself - chewed the fat about what’s working and what’s not in the capital city when it comes to artistic and cultural innovation. And, as always at Banter, we’d also some lively contributions from the audience.

On Saturday 23rd of April Groovement Soul will be back in the basement of the Twisted Pepper & will be joined by a very special guest and one of the most exciting DJ's/Producers on the House scene at the moment - Mr Andre Lodemann (Best Works - Berlin). Andre's work really caught our attention in 2010 with his absolute classic remix of Omar's - Lay it Down and we've been paying close attention ever since! With his unmistakable trademark Deep Electronic Groove's, it's right up Groovement Souls street and we can not wait for him to bring it to the basement of the Twisted Pepper on April 23rd. Exclusive GS Interview with AndreQuestions by Colin Leopold and Keith DaltonQ: You've lived in Berlin for x amount of years, working and having fun. If I had 24 hours in the city, how would you recommend I spend it?A: A lot of  people who come to Berlin are here to party. Of course Berlin boasts great clubs such as Weekend, Watergate, Berghain, etc. but Berlin also has other great sites to see. I love the canals and parks in Berlin. You can take a boat through the whole city and you can play soccer in the beautiful parks here. I also like to check second hand records stores and look for things that inspire me. For the evenings programming there are great bars and restaurants to visit in different areas in the city such as Friedrichshain, were I live. Q: With people less willing to pay for music and a lot more people making it, do you think it's harder to make a living from it? What's the worst job you've had to do to support your music career? A: For me things have been different. I have been djing over 20 years now and always had a regular job as a socialworker taking care of juveniles. It was a fullfilling job that I loved. But due to my passion for music I decided to quit the job 2 years ago to concentrate myself 100% on music production and dejaying. And since I quit I have been very lucky to be able to live from my music. I feel gratefull to have this possibility. Q: What's your favourite city or club to have played in recently and why?A: I actually had a great gig in Essen, Germany a few weeks ago. I played over 5 hours and the crowd was to my surprise very open to deep music and the trip I took them on. Clubwise I also really enjoyed Prater Sauna in Vienna and Bob Beaman in Munich. I look forward to playing Trouw in Amsterdam soon as I heard great things about it. Q: A lot of countries and scenes have put their own spin on house music in the last few years, what do you think makes it such a rich source of inspiration for DJs and producers?A: House music is open to all kinds of influences. It is a universal language that everyone can speak in their own dialect.

Q: Do all the records you play when you are djing have to have an element of soul in them.A: Of course. Q: What type of house music do you think we will be listening to in 2020?A: I can’t really tell you what is going to happen . At least my vision and hope would be that house music receives more muscial richness leaving the tool-approach behind. Q: Who would you love to collaborate with from any scene or genre?A: I would love to work with Mark Hollis of Talk Talk. And also Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays. Q: Are you quite an ambitious person - what's your main goal or goals for 2011?A: I am ambitious but honestly my goal for 2011 is to reduce my work and enjoy daily life more. Q: Have you been to Dublin before? What are you expecting from Groovement Soul on the night? Any treats in store etc?
A: From dj friends I hear that Dublin and Ireland love House-Music. I expect a cool crowd. As to treats I just finished a few remixes and new tracks (Freerange, Room with A View) that I intend to play in my set. Q: Who's going to be big in 2011 apart from you obviously?A: Steffi.
