In this episode, we speak with Matthew Ridley, Director of Sustainability and Innovation at the oneworld Alliance, who shares the story behind the groundbreaking $150 million Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) fund launched in partnership with the alliance's member airlines and Breakthrough Energy Ventures (BEV).Ridley discusses:The alliance investment advantage: How pooling resources across oneworld members creates access to world-class venture capital expertise, superior deal flow, more diverse portfolios, and geographical networks.Breakthrough Energy's unprecedented value: Why partnering with BEV provides access to talent airlines struggle to attract, plus synergies with investments in nuclear fusion, energy transmission, and geologic hydrogen.Next-generation focus vs. current needs: How the oneworld BEV fund targets technologies that can take aviation beyond 5-10% SAF adoption to truly change the trajectory of decarbonisation, complementing existing investments.Breaking the alliance mould: How oneworld moved beyond traditional codeshares and interlining to tackle “initiatives of scale”, and how they attracted Singapore Airlines to join despite not being a oneworld member.Reframing aviation's challenge: Why the problem isn't aviation itself, but rather the emissions from jet fuel, the only aspect of flight that hasn't changed since the Kitty Hawk.Ridley also shares insights from his seven years building IAG's Hangar 51, where he led first-mover investments in ZeroAvia and LanzaJet, and explains why SAF isn't a transition fuel but rather a permanent solution once emissions are addressed. If you LOVED this episode, you'll also love the conversation we had with Pasha Saleh, Head of Corporate Development at Alaska Airlines, who shares how the airline is investing in sustainable aviation technologies to achieve its ambitious climate goals. “The In-Between” is episode 29 of the Tale and the Tongue podcast series, emerging from several exchanges between Mafe Moscoso and Sonia Fernández Pan, the host of this podcast series. “Dear Mafe, Starting from the end – one of our many in-betweens – I'll answer your question: what was I doing when I was five years old? Like you, I was moving for the first time. I was starting to become Galician—to my great regret at the time. I was sad to realize I would not be Basque. Like you, I didn't like the change. Just like a plant uprooted against its will, that's how I felt. The word “in-between,” which keeps resurfacing in our conversations, was already there in 2023—and even before that. I remember how central that idea was in your project for Hangar, for the way it connects to the mestizo. Mestizo is a word that carries your voice to me. Something I had forgotten is that the word “entremedio” in German was the title of a project I did with Lucrecia Dalt at the Lilly Reich and Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona. She chose it back then, still living in Berlin: Dazwischen. Sometimes I miss the life without fear or worry that art residencies make possible. I felt at home because, for the first time in a long while, I felt safe. But you define it much better: to live the life of an inheritor. Does that happen to you with Heidelberg? Do you still miss that quiet life? Or perhaps the present demands so much from us now that there's little time left for longing. your dear Pan”

Daher das trotzige Motto: ‚We will dance again‘. Zu sehen noch bis zum 16. November auf dem alten Flughafen Tempelhof. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Was bedeutet Trumps Nahost-Frieden für uns in Europa? In this week’s episode of Dem Vinyl Boyz, we’re diving into the thrash metal battleground with Megadeth’s explosive fourth album, Rust in Peace. Released on September 24, 1990, this record not only cemented Megadeth’s legacy as one of the "Big Four" of thrash (alongside Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax), but it also pushed the genre into technically masterful and politically charged territory. This was Dave Mustaine’s first album featuring lead guitarist Marty Friedman and drummer Nick Menza, forming what many consider the band’s ultimate lineup. From the opening riff of "Holy Wars... The Punishment Due" to the laser-precise fretwork on "Hangar 18," Rust in Peace is a relentless assault of speed, complexity, and precision. Mustaine’s songwriting balances anti-war themes, conspiracy theories, and dystopian visions — and wraps them in some of the most intricate metal arrangements ever pressed to wax. The album received widespread critical acclaim and is now regarded as a cornerstone of thrash metal, earning Grammy nominations and spots on numerous “greatest albums” lists. It’s a record that influenced not just metalheads, but also shaped the evolution of progressive and technical metal for decades to come. Whether you’re a longtime fan or experiencing it for the first time, Rust in Peace is more than an album — it’s a mission statement from a band firing on all cylinders and changing the game in the process.
Part of a balanced breakfast. This week, we're taking a big first look at the story and gameplay in Mafia: The Old Country, Hangar 13's follow-up to the original Mafia trilogy. We've also got some comparisons and lingering thoughts on Mafia: Definitive Edition to go along with it. We also discuss some final thoughts on Lies of P and how a Soulslike with an easy mode really changes the game. Trust us, there's still plenty of difficulty to go around, even on easy. We also rattle through a bunch of new Gamescom announcements, ever so briefly, including Bubsy 4D, and we chat a little about the Kirby Air Riders Direct. Hutchison Repairing Fairchild 71 Interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQn5DRSstq8Olaf Swenson's Book - Northwest Of The WorldIn the 1920s, the first Alaskan aviators flew into a world that was constantly trying to kill them. With no maps, compasses that were inaccurate, unreliable engines, and open cockpit airplanes... These pilots operated over hundreds of miles of hostile un-improving wilderness, with no fields, roads or runways to land on. And all this with the same old terrible Alaskan weather. They weren't just aviators, they were cartographers, inventors, backcountry mechanics, explorers, and arctic survival experts. Willing to walk hundreds of miles at the drop of a hat, or repair an engine under a tarp in a blizzard. From polar flights, to connecting america with Asia, Many paid the ultimate price with their lives to pave the way for modern cross continental travel and the commercial aviation industry that we know today. My guest today is the living bridge to that era, his name is Richard Wien. In the 1920s His father Noel Wien at only 24 years old, started Alaska's first commercial flying operation. Noel is widely regarded as the first bush pilot. And his son Richard grew up flying with and learning from those original bush pilots. He is here to tell us the story of these aviation pioneers.
On this BONUS EPISODE of CASCADE OF HISTORY, Feliks Banel's guest is Al Mackenzie, who shares an update on an important development in the University of Washington's effort to restore and renovate the old ASUW Shell House along the Montlake Cut in Seattle - aka the home of "The Boys in the Boat," the famous 1936 Olympic Gold Medal winners. A contentious point in recent discussion about the project - the future of two of four large hangar doors that preservationists say define the look and character of the historic structure - has been settled by the National Park Service, according to an email sent by a UW official to the ASUW Shell House Advisory Committee on August 12, 2025. Dr. Mackenzie shares the contents of the email and some other observations on the ASUW Shell House project, and tells of his long interest in rowing, rowing history, and the historic structure.
