The pioneering artist talks philosophy, Berghain and touring on the eve of her 80th birthday. Suzanne Ciani is a synth music legend. After establishing herself as one of the first virtuosos of Don Buchla's modular system in the 1960s, she went on to earn five Grammy nominations, score a Hollywood film and found her own sound design company—creating iconic commercial soundtracks for Coca-Cola, AT&T and Atari. In this RA Exchange recorded live at IMS Ibiza, Ciani traces her remarkable path to success. She breaks down the working philosophy that got her there: from walking away from opportunities that didn't align with her vision, to carving out her own lane in a male-dominated industry that refused to make room for her. Now, just weeks away from turning 80, she discusses life on the road, collaborating with a new generation of electronic musicians and her first impressions of Berghain. Listen to the episode in full.

Roulita is an emerging artist, always searching for new sounds and musical expressions. Her self taught approach brings a refreshing irreverence to the craft where driving, mental techno foundations and precision-tooled minimal structures dissolve into dreamy atmospheric heights punctuated by burst of breaks and sleek tech house transmissions. Recently invited to play again at the legendary Berghain, she has already shared the stage with artists such as Yanamaste, Philippa Pacho, Ben Sims, Efdemin, and many others. Through her performances, she embodies a new generation of female DJs, driven by creative energy and strong artistic intent. A staple component of Marcel Dettmann's MDR imprint and Berghain's Ostgut Ton, German legend Norman Nodge clocks in this week with a killer two-hour deluge of Indus-oriented barrage fire. Known for his laser-precise mixing and lethal selections, Nodge cuts a path of absolute dance floor devastation, pushing back the boundaries of techno as we know it through streams of gravity-defying rhythmic assault and leftfield-informed abstraction. The result is a torrential outpour of powerhouse machine funk, no-surrender techno brutalism and fiery analogue thunder. Dive into an orgiastic smorgasbord of ruthless uptempo churn, surgical technique and immersive cerebrality. Sleek, propulsive ride all the way, y'all aren't ready for this one. Enjoy!

Jamie Anderson was born in London and raised in a musical environment, eventually relocating to Bristol in the mid 80's, where he continued training in improvisation with jazz pianist Dave Buxton for several years. Whilst performing in local bands and working in a Bristol record shop during the early 1990s, he developed a deep love for electronic music and turntablism, fusing elements of acid house, funk, Latin, and Detroit techno into his craft. In 1997, Anderson founded the label Artform, making his solo debut with the Prototype EP. In 2001, he released his first full-length album Blue Music on NRK, followed by the mix CD Nite:Life 013 and key tracks such as "Black Sun," "Player Hater," and "Rebel Sound." His productions and remixes also appeared on respected labels including Rotation, Cocoon, Fossil Archive, 100% Pure, and Flash Recordings. Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, Jamie Anderson became a fixture on the global DJ circuit, performing at major international events and building a devoted following for his energetic DJ sets and live performances. He collaborated with fellow artists such as Jerome, Dave Angel, Jesse Rose, K. Alexi, Lee Pattison, and Owain K-releasing standout singles like "Body Jackin" and "Cyclone," and refining his signature groove-driven sound. With his Artform Studio based in Berlin since 2014, Anderson continues to evolve his craft -collaborating with artists including Robert Owens, R.M.K., Daniel Haaksman and Florian Meindl on numerous high-quality studio productions. He remains active as a DJ, performing across Europe and around the globe. R.M.K hails from London, R.M.K is an exciting new project by Fossil Archive label head Roberto. It represents a faster and more intense take on his unique brand of Techno. He utilises his knowledge and past experiences, which include regularly playing at Berghain and Tresor in Berlin, as well as fabric in London, to develop his individual sound. During his 20+ year career in music, he has formed friendships and worked in partnership with other respected artists such as Trevino (Marcus Intalex), Jamie Anderson, Robert Owens, Goldie and Nastia. Although the focus is always on the very heart of the most raucous of raves, R.M.K never shies away from groove and funk. The star of São Paulo chops up 60 minutes of futuristic, global club sounds. It's an oft-heard cliché to describe an artist as truly singular. But with Roniere Santos, AKA RHR, it couldn't be more true. Part of a generation of Brazilian and Latin American artists reshaping club music, Santos and his peers have propelled it to unprecedented global reach. His sets—fearsome, bass-driven and unbound by BPM—have made him essential at some of the world's most forward-thinking clubs and festivals, from Horst to Berghain to Gop Tun. Behind the decks, his radical approach is both audible and felt through the body, driven by uncanny beatmatching and fluid harmonic mixing. Sonically, he pairs a knowledge of sound design with restless curiosity about music spanning continents and subcultures—evident in this recording, where Brazilian rap meets maqam-inspired melodies and breakbeat sections blend with deconstructed baile funk loops. And while his reach is now global, Santos remains inseparable from São Paulo. It's where he found his footing: from his first residency at Tantša, to belonging at Mamba Negra, to the foundations of an international career. For RA.1035, RHR crosses all the ground you might imagine—trance pads, dreamy pan flutes, post-dubstep, baile funk—with a menacing and seductive energy, a sense of discovery lurking behind every track. Actively pushing back the borders of techno language for the past fifteen years, German DJ and producer Thomas Hessler chose to relocate to Tbilisi, Georgia a few years ago and given the current state of the local scene, there is little wonder why. Tireless provider of equally hard-hitting and cerebral grooves that have taken him to play the best stages out there including Berghain, Fabric, Bassiani and Tresor, Hessler's name has become synonymous with stunt-filled, hi-octane sets and productions that operate in the gap between kevlar-coated payload, mind-bending loops and raging sub-bass drive. Expect a fiery, laser-precise deluge of ultra-dynamic psychedelia and rattling machine funk. No surrender.
Christoph Faust's journey in electronic music began 15 years ago, inspired by a movement in Berlin that encouraged many from the graffiti scene to explore their creativity and pursue an artistic lifestyle. For Christoph, stagnation is not an option. Over the years, he has introduced several alias projects, labels and event series each showcasing his evolving artistry. Under the alias "Escape To Mars,“ he first gained international recognition with his distinctive spacey techno sound. However, Christoph's passion for rock music eventually led him to blend rock and electronic music and start the project "Inhalt Der Nacht.“ This project, characterised by its unique sound, saw releases on Dax J's Monnom Black and marked Christoph's debut in the DJ booth at Berghain. After five successful years with "Inhalt Der Nacht“ Christoph sought greater musical freedom, desiring to create and perform music based on inspiration and emotion without being confined to a specific genre. Now performing under the name, Christoph Faust, he continues to surprise audiences with a diverse range of sounds, from techno and house to ambient and breakbeat, always focusing on delivering an unparalleled dance floor experience while pushing creative boundaries. Born and raised in Morocco, Chami has been djing there before moving to Lyon, France where he discovered his passion for techno. Now based in Berlin, where he has definitely become fully integrated in the Berlin local underground scene. Chami is one of those artists that truly reflects the spirit of techno, no superficial exterior surface of these days but only focusing on the pure art form itself. He is also part of the face 2 face project with OPH where they played facing each other using 2 mixers and 4 vinyl turntables which lead them to play multiple times in Berghain. He also co-founded with Olivia Mendez the label DIG Curated. Driven by community ethos at the core of their music vision, they are reinforcing the power of collaboration and discovery in the scene. By inviting renowned diggers and DJs to present lesser-known artists with each EP, DIG Curated became a pioneering vinyl label, conceived to empower new music talents and play a key role in the techno movement. By using the visibility and trusted endorsement of well-known artists, DIG Curated gives a platform to rising artists to be seen. He is also part of the Minijob French crew which organizes illegal raves in abandoned locations in the outskirts of Berlin, welcoming everyone regardless of genre, origin and sexuality with a wide variety of music from house disco and techno. These events are organized without public promotion and managed to gather a solid regular audience base that supports their values and trusts what they do. With his strong and determined vinyl only sets Chami is able to showcase his talent on the decks and demonstrate his deep knowledge for this very technical art. When listening to him, you can lock in for clean, rhythmic and mental hours of no bullshit techno. Just your run of the mill melodic techno. Ever look around and think everyone just wants to look, act, and sound all the same? Every IG dj sounds the same. AI slop is everywhere. That's this mix--aka Too Many Sheeple (A Love Story) Fun story about this mix, I pulled a bunch of tracks from my collection that I wanted to play from and added them into a few playlists as I normally would. I then asked ChatGPT to imagine I was playing a Berghain closing slot and to scan the playlists and create a set from those tracks. The results were surprising. I argued about many selections, even tried a few combos it suggested that didn't work, put that feedback back into the system and then this was what ultimately came out. So, I purchased the tracks, pre-filtered them myself, and mixed them on cdjs like normal, but the order was purely AI-driven. What do you think??

Join Here: https://ow.ly/msoH50WCu0KThe Notorious Mass Effect segment breaks down Rosalía's historic "Berghain" performance with Björk at the 2026 BRIT Awards on February 28 at Manchester's Co-op Live Arena. As Analytic Dreamz, I dissect this groundbreaking moment: the first live rendition of the track from her November 2025 album Lux, and the first onstage collaboration between Rosalía and Björk.Rosalía, in all-white attire, opened with an operatic German intro backed by the Heritage Orchestra's strings and a half-circle choir in blazers, evoking a cathedral atmosphere. Björk made a surprise entrance through the parted choir, delivering her hypnotic verse in avant-garde styling with a hovering beaded headpiece. The performance transformed into a full rave explosion: heavy synths, strobe lights, electronic beats, head-banging choreography, and an intense dance breakdown—blending symphonic drama, theatrical avant-garde, and underground club energy. This genre-bending spectacle followed Rosalía's win for Best International Artist, defeating Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Bad Bunny, Tyler, The Creator, Chappell Roan, and others—marking her as the first Spanish artist to claim a BRIT Award and a milestone for non-English-language music. Her acceptance speech emphasized celebrating otherness, cultural exchange, artistic freedom, and representation, quoting: “Let's keep celebrating different music, different cultures and different languages.”Lux, an ambitious 15-track opus spanning 13 languages with flamenco roots, experimental pop, orchestral elements (including London Symphony Orchestra), and electronic layers, set the stage for her upcoming Lux World Tour starting March 16, 2026, in Lyon, France—42 arena shows across 17 countries in Europe, North America, and South America.“Berghain,” despite the Berlin nightclub reference, explores inner psychological forests, darkness vs. light duality, moral ambiguity, and the artist's journey beside shadows for deeper understanding. The performance ignited viral buzz, critical acclaim as one of the most innovative BRIT moments, and tour hype—positioning Rosalía as a global cultural architect reshaping pop spectacle through fearless, high-art-to-rave fusions.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/analytic-dreamz-notorious-mass-effect/exclusive-contentPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
I sat down with Parisian‑born, Brussels‑based producer UFO95 to trace the line between brutalist architecture, Detroit machine soul, and live techno. From early days in punk bands and birthdays above his parents' club to a Tresor residency and a nerve‑tight Berghain performance, he unpacks how structure, space, and human error can turn a set into something physical. We dive into the design choices behind the new UFO95 album A Brutalist Dystopian Society Part 2: concrete‑solid kicks, saturated drones, and spacious pads that carry the grey, functional, futuristic mood of brutalism without ornament. He explains why half his shows remain improvised, how shrinking his hardware rig sharpened the energy, and what different cities teach him about pacing a room. Expect thoughtful nods to Underground Resistance, Jeff Mills, Surgeon, and Regis, reframed through a personal lens that swaps copycat nostalgia for living lineage. We also explore the craft behind the scenes: producing with the live arc in mind, writing twenty‑minute passages that breathe without a kick, and treating the club as a place to express, not excess. UFO95 talks candidly about resisting trends, favouring slow, minimal, and mental tracks while much of techno chases extremes, and why keeping protest and experimentation at the heart of the genre still matters. If you enjoy Lost and Sound and want to help keep it thriving, the best way to support the podcast is simple: subscribe, leave a rating, and write a quick review on your favourite podcast platform. For the Exchange's Season Two relaunch, the visionary duo discuss their first release in 13 years and the inspiration behind their trailblazing sound. Neel and Donato Dozzy, who perform and make music together as Voices From The Lake, first joined forces in 2011, when what was supposed to be a one-off performance in the Japanese Alps changed the trajectory of ambient techno forever. The music they made for the occasion was released as a self-titled album in 2012—a record that achieved mythical status in the underground and is still described as the Selected Ambient Works for the Berghain generation. Instead of following techno's standard linearity and instrumentation, the duo deployed a soft pulse, massive reverb trails and carefully placed silence to make their music feel like a living, breathing organism. Dozzy and Neel then went silent for 13 years, each pursuing their individual careers while fans pined for more music. And in December 2025, they finally delivered. II, which is dedicated to their late friend Nuel, manages to be both a continuation and a reinvention of the sound they pioneered more than a decade ago. In this RA Exchange, they uncover its guiding concepts, which draw deeply from the well of improvisational practices, concepts in Japanese design and aesthetics, and the minimalist visual art of contemporaries like Mike Parker. The duo also reveal their plans to veer away from the ambient blueprint altogether. Listen to the episode in full.

DJ TOOL's quicksilver sound is as intrepidly propulsive as it is indebted to the old school. Isochronously authentic and assertive, his sets traverse percolating trance, frenetic techno and seductive psychedelia across an encyclopaedic back-catalogue of clandestine classics. Enraptured by the raw essence of DJing, TOOL honed his style as part of Copenhagen's Fast Forward collective, boasting an apodictic vinyl dexterity that quickly earned him international renown. High energy and even higher stamina, his anarchistic and indefatigable 8-hour(+) sets at Berlin's Mala Junta have catalysed fabled closings at the likes of Tbilisi's Bassiani, New York's Basement, and London's Fold. As a co-founder of Mala Junta, TOOL's assiduous efforts to politicise nightlife and re-contextualise trance within the queer underground has led to multiple collaborations with Berghain, as well as activist DIY collectives worldwide. From the studio to the floor, every ingredient of his output emanates an energy that's irrefutably TOOL. The Innervisions cofounder reflects on the label's 20-year anniversary, the art of DJing and bringing politics back to the underground. One of the most popular record labels in the RA ecosystem is Innervisions, and one of its most popular DJs is cofounder Steffen Berkhahn, AKA Dixon. He started the outlet in 2005 with Kristian Rädle and Frank Wiedemann of Âme. Back when RA ran DJ polls, Dixon was #1 several years in a row. We've since retired them, but Dixon's appeal remains as widespread as ever. He made a name for himself in Berlin in the '90s when he was just a teenager, spreading a melodic strain of house and techno that became the Innervisions brand and continues to pull heartstrings around the world. This year, the label has been celebrating its 20-year anniversary, and Dixon reflects on its astronomical success on the heels of two major anniversary parties at Berghain and fabric. He also discusses how he's kept the label—and his own career—fresh and relevant; his feelings around commercial success; the importance of taking annual breaks from music and production; and his interest in reclaiming underground electronic music as a political space. Spanish artist and musical chameleon Rosalía released her latest album, Lux, today. The single, "Berghain," seems like a return to form. Operatic vocals, grand instrumentals, beautiful visuals -- the album is primed for critical praise. But for those who are hyperaware of Rosalia's transformations -- from flamenco songstress to Afro-Caribbean queen -- they have other questions about this evolution. Brittany is joined by writer-critics Bilal Qureshi and Michelle Santiago Cortés to unpack Rosalía's “church girl era,” and the complicated nuances of Latinidad in music.Follow Brittany Luse on Instagram: @bmluseFor handpicked podcast recommendations every week, subscribe to NPR's Pod Club newsletter at npr.org/podclub.Learn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy
