Hey there, music lovers. Welcome to Why Music Matters, a podcast where we examine the power and influence that music can wield in our lives. I'm your host, Jeff Miers. My guest to day is the singer/songwriter MarcScibilla. Born in Buffalo, NY, and raised in a musical environment, Marc packed his belongings and headed south to Nashville, TN, when he was fresh out of high school, with dreams of becoming a songwriter living and working on the fabled Music Row dancing through his head. This brave leap into the unknown may not have worked out exactly as Marc planned it, but as is often the case, the universe takes away with one hand while it gives with the other. And so, some 20 years into his career, Marc has become a success as a truly independent artist, one who has racked up hundreds of millions of listens and views across multiple streaming platforms and earned a devoted audience for his refreshingly passionate blend of folk, country, alternative and pop stylings. Marc recently completed his first sold-out headline tour, with multiple-night runs in major markets like Chicago, Nashville, and NYC. Now, he's halfway into his first world tour as a headliner, and appears to be on the brink of a major breakthrough. Marc joined me in the studio a few hours before performing a raucous and well-received show at Buffalo's Electric City, his first hometown gig in years. We talked about his journey thus far, and his hopes for the future. Welcome to Why Music Matters, Marc Scibilla…

Teri Granahan, technically, it started as middle child syndrome and a few basement plays which eventually got compounded with the high school crowning of "Most Funny" and "Class Cut Up" that set the wheels in motion. Truthfully, it was a survival skill because "everybody likes the funny kid." The Big Apple I started my comedy career in early 2000 while living in NYC. Right out of the gate I had some good signs- I won New York Comedy Club's Best New Talent in 2003. And went on to perform at Stand Up NY, Gotham Comedy Club, Broadway Comedy Club, Comedy Cellar trying to get into the scene. Fortunate enough to have shared the stages with some of today's greats like Jim Gaffigan, Lisa Lampinelli, the late, Patrice O'Neil...and so many others! Then I ran into comedian Dave Russo who gave me my first real professional gigs. The irony is that we both graduated together from Wilkes University and had communication classes together. Years later ran into each other performing at Stand Up NY! He took me under his wing where I opened for him at a few colleges like University of New Haven, Wilkes University a few times and gave me some shows in the Boston area with the famous Lenny Clarke! My Home Coming Fast forward a gazillion years my journey through comedy got me on MTV (Apartment 2F with the Sklar Brother's); a close but no cigar audition for AXS LIVE Gotham (great story!). And was making my climb through the circuit. Back in the Poconos: I won Best of Reader polls in 2011 from Electric City and Diamond City polls. Became the house mc at Wisecrackers for a few years when they moved into the Casino, where I also had a weekly spot on 105 the River. Culminating into the final brass ring of making it to the semi finals- TOP 10 females in the industry- in the Ladies of Laughter Competition NYC in 2016. Punchline Philly's Really Funny Comedians (Who Happen to Be Females) Comedy Works Bristol Funniest Females After sharpening my skills running tons of open mics over the years. I moved on to produce comedy shows of a wide variety from fundraisers for several hundreds to small little pubs for almost 10 years. I've performed in clubs, colleges and theaters up and down the east coast, including Gotham NY, Stand Up NY, New York Comedy Club, Improv (when it was running in NYC), Broadway Comedy Club, Comedy Cellar, Helium, Punchline Philly, Comedy Cabaret, Sarcasm, Wisecrackers rooms, Wilkes University, Marywood University, New Haven University, Lackawanna College, Penn State University; Ritz Theater, Clemens Center, Waverly Store Front Theater and some theater in Delaware. Also going on record with The Flaming Crab and Quaker Steak & Lube...because you ain't sh*t til you can play those rooms! #terigranahan #standupcomedian #comedy #livewithcdp #talkshow #chrispomay #barrycullenchevrolet #wellingtonbrewery #youtube #applepodcasts https://terigranahan.com/ https://beacons.ai/chrisdpomay https://www.cameo.com/chrispomay https://www.youtube.com/@chrispomaylivewithcdpsport5517/streams

Join us on a whirlwind shopping trip to the Springfield, Virginia Macy's, where escalators are perpetually broken and early October brings unexpected Christmas decorations. Amidst the retail chaos, our hosts navigate the challenges of finding the perfect pair of earrings, while sharing personal anecdotes and retail frustrations. With just days until my birthday, there's no one (other than my dearest Ollie) who I would want to chat with on this week's podcast besides my Pittsburgh pal Gab Bonesso. She's a comedian, mental health advocate, professional speaker and children's performer who is getting to really like the Electric City...so much that she's headed back in September for a comedy show and to emcee Disability Pride PA's event in Pittston. We talk about our upcoming events here in NEPA, as well as our mutual love for the show "Evil" and about a trip Gab took recently at the Jersey Shore in a Victorian home. When you think of FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology), you might envision a runway and have the words "Make it work" echoing in your ears--- words often spoken by Tim Gunn to contestants on the fashion competition reality show "Project Runway." ☕️Buy me a coffee: https://www.everyonelovesguitar.com/support In this John Ondrasik interview: John's early songwriting was driven by a chip on his shoulder and a desire to be heard. We talked about the autobiographical nature of John's songs, the power of music to impact people's lives, the challenges of the music industry, the importance of speaking out against atrocities, how his ego has helped… and hindered him… and the low points and dark periods in his life. Specifically, being dropped by his record label and had to get a job, and the challenging time he faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. John emphasizes the importance of gratitude, taking care of yourself, and making decisions that align with your values John Ondrasik, better known as Five For Fighting, is a platinum selling multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter. Hello, music lovers! Welcome to Why Music Matters, a podcast where we examine the power and influence that music can wield in our lives. I'm your host, Jeff Miers. Today, we've got a very special guest - legendary progressive and hard rock musician, son of western New York, and virtuoso bassist Billy Sheehan. We know Billy from his groundbreaking work with Talas, David Lee Roth's band, Niacin, Mr. Big, Sons of Apollo, and many more. Currently in the midst of a farewell tour with Mr. Big, which includes a homecoming gig at Electric City in Buffalo on June 6, Billy chatted with me from the road, where he's been enjoying a string of sold-out dates with his bandmates. I started things off by asking Billy if he recalled that fateful night night in December of 1980, when a then-unknown band called U2 opened for Talas at Stage One in Buffalo - on what turned out to be the night that John Lennon was murdered, in New York City. Billy and his Talas bandmates reacted by performing a set of the Beatles tunes they'd grown up revering, as a tribute to Lennon…

Then back to race and some unfortunate and weird small town racist and bullying antics that the Dudes saw in High School. Jesus Christ, then back to FoxFlix recommendations. Josh talks about the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie and how good it was. Then Josh , Steve and Drew share stories about their kids and their wild ass behavior as of late as well as child care stories. Brian started his education after realizing you could make a good living and have a ton of flexibility compared to other vocations. What he didn't expect was the growth of self that he developed, the sense of purpose gained and the intuition to guide. Filling your own well is a personal mantra for Brian and he teaches his students to take better care of themselves, in order to serve their clients better. Brian had such a profound experience at CNWSMT that he says, “ if I didn't do another massage ever again. I would still go through the education again.” For him being part of the community and personal growth were great benefits on top of receiving his LMT and following his soul path. If we do not release our traumas, pains, stressors and depressants, we store them in our bodies somewhere. The physical will bemoan the emotional. Our bodies do tell the score and if you do not release these items we will become symptomatic. Whatever that means to you. Brian evangelizes the benefits of massage for everyone. He, especially touts it for those with depression. Massage being a healing touch, Brian has touched so many folks. Cue comedic drum fill. Please come out this Sunday to the Center of Natural Wellness School of Massage Therapy at 14 Computer Drive West, Albany, NY 12205 from 10a-2pm for their open house and health fair. This event will have a little bit of everything, from body work, energy work, sound therapy and Above Ground Podcast. Come out and help us spread self love via self care. Set an intention to come and open yourself to something new. Speaking of intentions. When we fired up the engine on this pod, I set the intention of having seven episodes in the can and that it would be a weekly episode drop. I had no idea it would go two hundred plus weeks and counting. Next week we celebrate four years of stomping stigma and having real, raw conversations about mental health from the, peer-spective. Remember hope won't spread itself! Thank you! Also summer is fast approaching and AGP will be out and about. We will definitely see you at the one and only, Nipperfest 2023. This week I'm uncorking with one of my two favorite serial guests...Pittsburgh-based comedian, mental health advocate, speaker and kind human Gab Bonesso! Gab is a regular on the show who is so much fun to talk to...about pretty much anything and everything! We are both so excited that we'll get to meet in person this Spring when Gab travels to Scranton, PA to lead mental health presentations peppered with her brand of humor and headline a comedy fundraiser on May 5th to benefit the Northeast Region of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). Gab is being brought to NEPA in part from funding granted to NAMI from the Humor Therapy Fund of the Scranton Area Community Foundation. If you want to support more community initiatives that promote humor and laughter in NEPA, you can make a donation to the Humor Therapy Fund online at SAFDN.org. Check out Gab at https://gabbonesso.com/ and on Instagram and Facebook. In this conversation, we talk about helping young people with their mental health struggles, the annoying aspects of social media, Gab's Italian heritage and our mutual love of crime dramas.
