L.Ivory, a pillar of Dublin's queer scene and founder of NSFW, steps up to the 244th Local Selection Mix. Ivory's 90s-inspired set includes Baleric-brushed grooves, UK rave, smokey Panorama Bar style cuts and more for an hour of dancefloor pleasure. Best known for his party NSFW, the Dublin native established the forward-thinking queer party series in January 2022 to promote marginalised LQBTQ+ talent in his hometown. It's hard to believe the party has been going on for two and a half years, leaving its mark on the Dublin landscape and gaining a cult following thanks to its utopian vibe, free of judgement and promoting pure freedom of expression. L. Ivory‘s work in Dublin club culture extends beyond NSFW; he is also promoting shows under a new brand, SissHut, in Yamamori Tengu. His NSFW radio show on Dublin Digital Radio, a community-driven station, has provided a platform for emerging talent while also allowing the NSFW boss to showcase his diverse musical tastes. The Dublin-based artist has also been making his mark across Ireland's festival circuit, frequently appearing across some of the Isle's most coveted stages at Electric Picnic, All Together Now, Otherside and Life Festival. He has also shared the booth with various esteemed artists including Traumer, Dungeon Meat, Spray, IN2STELLAR, Doudou Md, and many more. Ivory's contribution to the Local Selection Mix series is a smooth ride through his refined mix of dancefloor-ready tracks, delicately merging contrasting tools into a smooth-sailing adventure that is as surprising as it is coherent. A good DJ mix can be often defined by depth, and L.Ivory's mix is nothing short of tunnelling deeper and deeper as it advances from hypnotising prog rollers to trance-kissed anthems, reducing acid lines, vintage Dublin rave classics, and more. This is a true DJ at work; each mix is well-thought-out but not overly premeditated, allowing for plenty of twists and turns. Niall is a 22 year old Irish based artist specialising in Hardgroove, Hypnotic & Tribal techno. He has a passion for all forms of electronic music, but his true sound is heavily influenced by the late 90s & early 2000s era of loop-driven techno, however, it's no surprise to hear a variety of genres from both the new and the old era's in Niall's highly energetic sets. He has performed all over Ireland in the last 2 years, with multiple headline shows in various Irish cities like Galway, Sligo, Limerick & Dublin. In Summer 2023, Niall made his first Irish festival appearances at Electric Picnic & Life Festival, and also wrapped up his first tour in Canada & America alongside his former collective, with performances in Vancouver, San Diego, San Francisco, Chicago & New York. This tour allowed him to share his musical talents & knowledge on an international scale for the first time & gave him great exposure doing so. Niall has notably supported many international artists like Hector Oaks, X-Club, Azyr, Partiboi69, Skin on Skin, Riot Code, Salute and Testpress. The above list of artists shows Niall's sheer versatility on the decks and that he is not limited to playing just one genre. He is also a lover of all-night-long sets, having completed 6 to date with hopefully many more in the future. In the world of production, Niall embarked on his creative journey in January 2023, and it has been quite a successful one so far. He's gotten 3 releases under his belt to date, and they have already received support from artists such as VTSS, TRYM, Boyz Noize, Bad Boombox, Juicy Romance & 2qwik2gruv. With more projects currently in the pipeline, including his first label releases & remixes, he doesn't show any sign of stopping soon with his productions. @niall-kelly-16

This week's contribution to the Four Four Local Selection welcomes FENSKA to the series as she showcases her ecstatic dance-themed style of techno as part of her newly formed alias. Formerly known as SYMØNE, FENSKA will now be an outlet for all things techno-related. Over the last number of years, Enigma founder and resident FENSKA (fka SYMØNE) has accomplished a wealth of things both at home and abroad, contributing a wide array of guest mixes to acclaimed cities for dance music such as Berlin, Barcelona and London with features on the likes of The Brvtalist, Rave Alert and FOLD. Performing a headline show in Belgium in the process, FENSKA has played alongside some of the industries leading artists such as Rebekah, 999999999, Dense & Pika, Matador, Anfisa Letyago, Rebūke and more. All while making appearances at Irish festivals such as Life Festival, Fuinneamh and Longitude. FENSKA's music draws inspiration from the old-school rave scene, blending a range of industrial and acid sounds with hypnotic, driving techno. This mixed spectrum of musical influence paired with an open mind and fierce curiosity translates seamlessly into her sets, where she picks apart and creates an infectious fusion of her favourite pieces of each subgenre, crafting an unforgettable experience for her listeners. While FENSKA is now an outlet for all things techno-related, SYMONE CMK acts as her other alias which she recently kickstarted catering towards house and progressive genres and has gained recognition from Spin1038 and Waterford Football Club further showcasing FENSKA's diversity and versatility as an artist. FENKSA's entry to the Local Selection is an hour of straight-up blistering techno. Combining various forms of hard techno, acid and more with clean mixing throughout makes for an energetic and equally enjoyable listening experience. Today we premiere a track from one of the most exciting names in Irish techno, Dylan Fogarty. The youngster debuts on Parisian label and event series @rawppl with his new track 'Da Funky Track' - a raw and bouncing groove that tips a hat to the golden era of 90's techno. Dylan Fogarty debuts on RAW's infamous Summer Hits VA series for the first edition of the series that supplies all original tracks instead of its usual collection of reworks. The release calls gather a collection of techno producers from various corners of the world to supply some sun-soaked bangers that are sure to be on heavy rotation at festivals, club shows, and open airs this summer. With tracks from Hadone, Under Black Helmet, AK Sports, JKS, Pagan and more the compilation is a strong collection of bangers. Hailing from Skerries Dylan Fogarty emerged at the tail end of 2022 with a deep and lengthy amount of unreleased techno funk. The newcomer has quickly impressed with a flurry of self-releases as well as featuring on ASW, Rave Your Soul, Concrete Berlin & more. Ireland's newest arrival of loop-driven techno obsession has been gaining support from some of Europe's most in-demand selectors including DJ Heartstring, Tommy Holohan, Kettama, and more. Running off the back of a landmark Life Festival debut and a string of high-profile club shows, Dylan is a force to be reckoned with, and I'd be keeping a close eye on this talent. Dylan Fogarty's contribution to RAW Summer Hit's VA is a refreshing bouncing techno groove that is simply made for festival season. Dylan references the 90's techno scene coming from Sweden as 'Da Funky Track' takes influences from the likes of Adam Beyer & Samuel L. Session. A pulsating bassline plays off well-crafted syncopated drum grooves creating a simplistic yet utterly entrancing funked-up loop. Dylan captures the art of stripped-back techno funk, less is most definitely more when it comes to crafting this style. Outstanding as always. For the 207th edition of the Local Selection mix, we present a special live recording from Life Festival as Thump residents and co-owners Rowdiboi & Decadance go full throttle on the Index stage. As the sun splits through the sky of Belvedere House in Mullingar, ravers begin to wander into the main arena as they face the final day of raving at Life Festival. The Thump DJs were sandwiched between District 8 boss Moduse and rising star MELTX, however, the pair held no qualms for the DJs before or after them, as after all it is a festival, and anything goes down. In Mullingar, there are no warmups. Rowdiboi & Decadance rush into a frenzy of swirling hard-edged rhythms, beginning with a contemporary rave classic from Shlomo which sets the tone for a pummeling hour of hasty mixing and no holds barred style track selection, in other words, they played a heap of banging techno. The mix remains fairly much relentless for the full hour, taking a number of deranged twists & turns, such as the hard techno edit of Calvin Harris ‘I'm Not Alone' which comes bursting into the set at around 20 minutes and speedying over 150bpm already. The set isn't all edits and rave stabs, as the pair fire through a number of heads-down locked grooves, from schranz to rumbling hard dance. The tempo's continues to rise alongside the temperatures at Life Festival, with an assortment of Belgian-influenced weapons and punishing edits such as the menacing refix of ‘Partiboi69 – K On My D+C Feat. Juicy Romance'. The pair close things off at the ferocious speed of 200bpm, confirming their I don't give a fuck attitude at a pinnacle show for the pair. Banging, to say the very least. Today we premiere new rolling techno coming from straight from Research residents Aeron XTC & Taint for Free Download. The Dublin based DJs and producers showcase a blistering locked groove that leans on trippy soundscapes and thunderous low-end power. Research residents and co-owners Aeron XTC and Taint are two of Dublin's most seasoned techno DJs, having played in most venues across the capital as well as being festival favourites, the pair live and breathe techno music through every aspect of their life. Alongside playing regular show's together across Index, Farrier & Draper, Wigwam, Cellar, AVA Festival, Electric Picnic, Life Festival and more, the pair have been busy crafting a unique sound within the studio. The duo's workflow both behind the booth & within the studio complements each other greatly, each adding their own flavour to a unified sound which oozes out in an oddly satisfying yet contradictory manor. Having respectively played alongside some of the titans of the techno scene including; Karenn, Paula Temple, Perc, FJAAK, SPFDJ, Blawan and many more, the pair are well versed in the art of warming up a room – an often forgotten art of DJing in Dublin City. Their latest offering comes in the form of a ferocious loop driven slice of Dublin techno. The pair showcase an uncompromising taste of dynamic and rhythmic techno, that growls from the belly up. Intricate synth swells snarl through the mix as they play off a mind-bending lead sequence to nauseating effect. This is proper loop-driven techno, that packs a punch relentless flurry of punches. This week's entry to the Local Selection Mix Series welcomes esteemed Subject resident Niall Cleary. The massively talented and ever-consistent DJ has put forward a sensational mix featuring 57 tracks with a host of Irish and international talent throughout. Niall has been a key cog in the Dublin techno machine since the early 2000s when nights like Electric City and venues such as Redbox and the old Tivoli Theatre were in their prime. A student of the fast, loop-driven techno from the late 90s, and early 2000s eras, his sets are high energy, full of fast transitions and expert blends. Since late 2009, Niall has been a resident DJ with the renowned Subject events, playing alongside some of the biggest names in house, techno, and electro, as well as appearances at clubs and festivals such as District 8, Index, Twisted Pepper, Life, and Electric Picnic. Niall also holds a residency on Dublin Digital Radio where he plays alongside Mutate Events who host a bi-monthly techno show on Thursday nights where they focus on showcasing emerging and already-established Irish artists. Having played alongside techno stalwarts Dave Clarke, Paula Temple, Surgeon, DJ Bone, Jeff Mills, DVS1, Juan Atkins, Karenn, and more, Niall's pedigree in providing a classy warm-up set is frankly second to none. Niall's skill behind a pair of turntables is not restricted to serving up the starters, as he's been frequently found dishing out peak-time tools at numerous Irish festivals including Life Festival, Electric Picnic, and more. Niall's entry to the Local Selection features a range of brilliant artists that include SHDW & Obscure Shape, Alarico, Truncate, Lars Huismann, Tommy Holohan, Doug Cooney, Aero, Mode_1, Slam, Casper Hastings, and more throughout and just coming in at just over 2 hours in length. Making for a thoroughly enjoyable techno workout. Sorted. Since then, she has had a steady stream of releases on labels like [R]3volution Records & Diffuse Reality with more on the schedule for 2023. In the latest episode of the Flip N' Shift Podcast, my guest is Angie Brown.  Angie Brown is the wife of the late Michael P. Brown and the mother of their two early adolescent boys.  Angie discussed their personal story from the moment of meeting Michael, to becoming his wife and then the unfortunate diagnosis of late stage Signet Ring Cell Colon Cancer.  Angie's support and Michael's will to beat this aggressive and rare form of cancer while living his best life has touched so many lives.  She provided personal insight on Michael and explained his desire to create a foundation prior to his death to help bring awareness and funding for research.  The information below explains a little bit about the Michael P. Brown Colon Cancer Foundation. (https://run4michael.com/about-us/) The Michael P. Brown Colon Cancer Foundation was created in 2014 by Michael, his wife, and a dedicated network of friends. Michael was initially diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in February 2010, at age 26-years-old. He immediately underwent surgery to remove part of his colon, followed by six months of chemotherapy, with his wife and infant son by his side. Michael was in remission for almost four years. Then in December of 2013, he was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. The type of cancer Michael had is called signet ring cell adenocarcinoma. It is a rare and aggressive type of cancer that affects less than 1% of all colon cancer patients. Because of its rarity, this type of cancer is not researched as much as the more common forms of colon cancer.   It was out of this necessity for research that the Michael P. Brown Colon Cancer Foundation was founded. We knew that the research would not help save Michael, but rather the many people that will be diagnosed in the coming years. Currently, signet ring colon cancer is treated with the same chemotherapy medications as other colon cancers. Unfortunately, the usual chemotherapy options have proved to be suboptimal and many times ineffective for signet ring colon cancer.   Michael had a heart for running, so to meet the goals of the foundation, a 5K Run/1 Mile Walk was established, “Michael's 5K Run For Life.” Due to fantastic friend, family and community support, the run has gradually grew into a festival, “Michael's Run for Life Festival,” with a kids' run, food, drinks, bake sale, silent auction, live auction, kids' event area, and a live band. As Michael's health declined in 2018, he expressed his strong desire to continue our fundraising efforts. Following Michael's passing in 2019, Central Illinois Endoscopy held the First Annual Michael P. Brown Dodgeball Tournament and a former co-worker/friend established the First Annual Michael P. Brown Colon Cancer Foundation Trivia Night. Michael leaves this world forever changed and his memory continues to inspire our foundation as we strive to keep future families affected by this disease whole.  For more information: Website:  https://run4michael.com Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/run4michael/ Email:  run4michael@gmail.com      "Jackson was 2 2/1 months old when Michael was diagnosed with cancer." 20:26 "Michael had a very rare form of colon cancer, called Signet Ring Colon Cancer. Less than 1% of colon cancers are Signet Ring Colon Cancer. Signet ring carries a very poor prognosis." 21:49  Referencing to travel (Ireland and New York) and doing vacations during Michael's final months:   "We gave ourselves permission to live a life that perhaps we wouldn't have ..had things been different."  36:50   Credit: Podcasting Editing Services by Brad Walsh (Empowerography Podcasting/Editing Services)
