“Remember those three minutes for the rest of your life.” In this episode, Al White, Advisor for Corporate Responsibility and VP of The Lilly Foundation at Eli Lilly and Company, joins Derrin Slack for a conversation about breaking the cycle of crime and making the most of every opportunity. Al’s father was a well-known drug dealer in Delaware, and his grandfather was murdered as a result of his involvement with organized crime. When Al was arrested before his senior year of highschool, it seemed he would follow the pattern. As he shares his story, you’ll hear how he was given a second chance, and what he did next to take full advantage of it.
The Lynn Lady follows the Bishop family as they become increasingly entangled in a strange, paranormal rift, the beginnings of which lie in a horrific, unsolved murder that occurred some eighty years before the beginning of our story. The 2021 Characters Salem’s Ghosts: The Lynn Lady centers on the Bishop family. We follow daughter Marina Bishop, a podcaster and true crime/paranormal enthusiast born and raised in Salem, Massachusetts. Marina hosts a podcast called “Twisted Salem” with her long-time best friend Tyler Aldene, on whom she has largely emotionally depended since the strange disappearance of her father a year before our story begins. Marina’s mother, Patricia Bishop, is a history professor and career-minded woman who is doing her best to keep moving forward after the sudden vanishing of her husband. For Patricia’s emotional support in this trying time, she has largely turned to Ashley Knightsbane. Ashley is an associate professor at the same school as Patricia as well as a part-time psychic medium who works at “Corwin’s Curiosity Shoppe” in downtown Salem. Also in the mix are a party crew of early 20 year-old’s named Drew, Mason, and Will who are, as a group, entangled in a mysterious, terrifying car accident early in the piece, from which not all escape. The psychic reverberations of this accident go on to also ensnare the Bishops as the piece progresses through its six episodes. The 1941 Characters The other half of The Lynn Lady follows a young man and woman in 1941. We first meet Frances Cochran, a late teenager who’s got her heart set on leaving her hometown of Lynn, Massachusetts. To this end, Frances works at a leather tanning company in nearby Salem, where she is well-liked among the staff. She’s precocious, curious, strong-willed, and always ready for adventure. Contrasting her, we meet Al Pleasance, a compulsive poet and wandered whose home life is brutal, history is shadowy, and future looks uncertain. When Al and Frances chance upon each other on the streets of Lynn, their connection is immediate and compelling. Soon, the young couple goes on their first date to Marvin’s One-Stop, a local diner. But, the young romance can’t last forever and before long the 1941 story turns into something far darker than it at first appears. In This Episode We meet our cast of players who will carry us through the entire story. The many mysteries of the series are introduced and we dive headlong into the paranormal and emotional conflicts at the core of our story. Coming Up Salem's Ghosts: The Lynn Lady will release one episode at a time for the rest of this week. The entire series will be available by Valentine's Day, 2021. Got a great story about a real character who almost everyone has heard of. But, We’re going to explore his childhood and some of the other attitudes and behavior he exhibited later in life.Al was born on March 14th, 1879. As a newborn, he was described as having a ‘swollen and mishappen head’ and a grossly overweight body. When Al’s grandmother saw him the first time she was reported to have screamed, “Much too fat! Much too fat!”.As a young child, he was famous for his temper tantrums. He would yell, and holler, and throw things. Lots of things – toys, books, or whatever he could get his hands on.He was an unquantified genius whose vivid mind has impacted so many meaningful advances in technology. He loved and took time for kids, and was an accomplished musician. But, he was at times, also quite a selfish and insensitive jerk.Like most human beings he was a mix of good and bad, Brilliance and stupidity, Light and Dark. Not that different from most humans.

When Al and his friends get fed up with the women taking over their Jiggly Room and their bowling night, thanks to both Jerry Springer and Marcy D'Arcy, they form a secret organization called No MA'AM and hold Springer hostage in his own show in an audience filled with men donning the No MA'AM shirts. They intend to perform television's first sexorcism, which includes them forcing him in watching hours of pro-wrestling. “Capitalism is the legitimate racket of the ruling class.” Al Capone Al Capone was born in the Brooklyn borough of New York City on January 17, 1899. His parents were Italian immigrants Gabriele Capone and Teresa Capone . His father was a barber and his mother was a seamstress, both born in Angri, a town in the Province of Salerno. Gabriele and Teresa had nine children: Alphonse "Al" Capone; Vincenzo Capone, who later changed his name to Richard Hart and became a Prohibition agent in Homer, Nebraska; Raffaele James Capone, AKA Ralph "Bottles" Capone, who took charge of his brother's beverage industry; Salvatore "Frank" Capone, Ermina Capone, who died at the age of one, Ermino "John" Capone, Albert Capone, Matthew Capone, and Mafalda Capone . Ralph and Frank worked with him in his criminal empire. Frank did so until his death on April 1, 1924. Ralph ran the bottling companies (both legal and illegal) early on, and was also the front man for the Chicago Outfit for some time until he was imprisoned for tax evasion in 1932. The Capone family immigrated to the United States, after first moving to nearby Fiume in Austria-Hungary in 1893. From that port city they traveled on a ship to the U.S., where they settled at 95 Navy Street, in the Navy Yard section of downtown Brooklyn. Gabriele Capone worked at a nearby barber shop at 29 Park Avenue. When Al was 11, the Capone family moved to 38 Garfield Place in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Capone showed promise as a student, but had trouble with the rules at his strict parochial Catholic school. His schooling ended at the age of 14, after he was expelled for hitting a female teacher in the face. He worked at odd jobs around Brooklyn, including a candy store and a bowling alley.[8] During this time, Capone was influenced by gangster Johnny Torrio, whom he came to regard as a mentor https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Capone Public Access America Body Sourced From https://youtu.be/5BVmmt4UG58 PublicAccessPod Productions Footage downloaded and edited by Jason at PublicAccessPod producer of Public Access America Podcast Links Review us Stitcher: goo.gl/XpKHWB Review us iTunes: goo.gl/soc7KG Subscribe GooglePlay: goo.gl/gPEDbf YouTube goo.gl/xrKbJb YouTube “Not for ourselves alone, but that we must teach others.” Elizabeth Cady Stanton

This October marks Al Jaffee reign as Mad Magazine’s longest running contributor, clocking in 59 years and over 479 issues. Since 1952, the comic book turned magazine infused a childish silliness with biting political depth and orignal artwork. By engaging readers to add their own “Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions,” and even mangling the magazine to solve the “Fold-In” picture riddle, Mad was one of the first enterprises to treat consumers as co-conspirators. The result was an entirely new forum for humor in an era when few questioned whether father really knows best. It’s allure for children and teenagers simultaneously fueled outrage from the FBI to Congress the collective imaginations of future comedy writers and cartoonists. Writers behind The Simpsons, The Daily Show, The Onion, and The Colbert Report credit Mad Magazine for inspiring them. The sheer joy Jaffee’s work provides fans offers to fans is inverse proportion to what he and his three brothers experienced growing up. In his biography Al Jaffee’s Mad Life, co-authored by Mary-Lou Weissman, Jaffee details how his father, who enjoyed drawing, turned his four sons, especially his eldest two, Al (nee Abraham) and Harry, onto the funny pages. When Al’s mother uprooted the boys from their stable homelife in Savannah, Georgia to spend six impoverished, hungry years in Zarsai, Lithuania, Al lived for packages his father sent of newspaper clippings of the “funny pages.” While his father managed to get his then abused and neglected boys back to the States, Al’s mother moved them again to a Jewish ghetto in Lithuania. Their father father managed to get the boys out narrowly avoiding the Nazi takeover, although their mother didn’t make it to the train station on time to say goodbye. It was the last time, Jaffee saw his mother, who perished in the Holocaust. An artist through and through, cartooning became a refuge. Al was so gifted that when he landed in the Bronx, his teacher recommended him to attend the first class of High School and Music & Art, which the then Mayor LaGuardia had just created. There Jaffee met his future partners-in-crime Will Eder, Harvey Kurtzman, John Severin, and Al Feldstein and gained classical drawing skills. Cartooning wasn’t part of the curriculum or even respected, although it didn’t stop Jaffee from doodling. Luckily, between the admiration he garnered from classmates, teachers, and an advertisement for Flit cigarettes drawn by Theodore Geisel, Jaffee decided to make a go of cartooning. As you will hear in our interview, Jaffee is first and foremost a mensch.
