Every year FPC takes one Sunday and recognizes our high school graduates and our youth in general. We call it Youth Sunday. Each year it's a different set of youth. Yet each year we're amazed at their growth and maturity. Shout out to their respective parents and villages in helping to raise such remarkable kids. Today we also launch a new sermon series called "Sent." It's apropos as we send out our youth into the world and see what kind of mark they make.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-14 James 4:13-15
Sermon from Sunday, April 27, 2025 Presented by Trinity Youth
Avery Adams, Class of 2025
Clare Lorenz, Class of 2025
Some of our high school seniors will be our preachers for the day while other youth will lead in liturgy and prayer. They will proclaim the Word based on Luke 24:13-35, the Road to Emmaus. We'll hear about confused and disheartened disciples grappling with Jesus' death and the stories floating around about his resurrection while talking with a stranger they met on the road. Much to their surprise, this stranger in their midst was their beloved messiah who was at work amongst them in ways they least expected. Our youth will ask us to consider how God is at work even when we can't see it. Sermons delivered by Noah Brooks, Claire Chauhan, Lydia Ford, Isabella Tamburrino, and Kate Wolfkill on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
Minister George Anderson comes to us on this Youth Sunday to remind each and every one of us that we have the power to bring others to Christ, and to overcome all obstacles in our path.
Youth Sunday, APril 27, 2025"God's Got You" - Noah Trenchard and Kaitlyn NelsonSermon based on Isaiah 41:10,13(reading by Didumo Met)
At today's Youth Service, Pastor Femi Paul shared a powerful exhortation titled: "You're Destined for Greatness, But Are You Ready?" He opened by defining Greatness as significant accomplishments, importance, power, success and fame (Cambridge Dictionary), but reminded us that true greatness is measured by exceptional work, contribution to society, and the lasting impact we make in the lives of others. Drawing examples from scripture, Pastor Femi showed how: David became king at 30 years old, Joseph stepped into leadership at 30, Solomon asked God for wisdom at just 20, And even Jesus started His earthly ministry at 30. He challenged us that although we are destined for greatness, we must actively prepare for it! What it takes to prepare for greatness: Proverbs 26:1 (TPT) reminds us that, "It is totally out of place to promote and honour a fool, just like it's out of place to have snow in the summer and rain at harvest time!" Similarly, Ecclesiastes 10:16 (GNT) warns, "A country is in trouble when its king is a youth-fool and its leaders feast all night long." The message was clear: Promotion Cometh, get yourself ready. We must cultivate wisdom, responsibility, and character now, so that when our moment comes, we will be ready to rise and shine for God's glory!
What do you do when it feels easier to give up? You keep going. In this 4-week series, we'll explore how to keep seeking God's presence, keep trusting His faithfulness, and keep believing that He's still working. Whether you're on fire or feeling stuck, this is your reminder to hold on to faith that won't quit. Come join us in person Sundays at 10:15, doors open at 9:45 at 803 Quandt Ave in Springdale. And when you can't, join us here for the livestream. We're glad you're here. What happens when the next generation says yes to God? This Youth Sunday, our students are taking the lead—sharing real stories of faith, growth, and what it means to follow Jesus in everyday life. Inspired by Acts 1:8, we're celebrating the power of the Holy Spirit at work in them and through them. From learning to wait on God to stepping out in boldness, they're showing us what it means to be ready to witness.

About our Lead Minister: Rev. Marta Flanagan began her ministry as our twentieth called minister at First Parish in the fall of 2009. She is a genuine and forthright preacher. In conversation she is direct and engaging. She speaks of prayer with as much ease as she laughs at human foibles. We call her “Marta.” Marta is a religious liberal, a theist, a feminist, and a lover of the woods. As a student of American history at Smith College she was captivated by the stories of social reformers who were motivated and sustained by their faith. That led her to consider the ministry and to study at Harvard Divinity School from where she was graduated in 1986. She was the first woman minister in the city of Salem, Massachusetts, serving at the First Universalist Church there (1987-1997). She served in a co-ministry at South Church (Unitarian Universalist) in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, (1997-2005) from where she is minister emerita. Marta served as interim minister in Montpelier, Vermont (2008-2009). She is trained as a spiritual director. For three years she lived in the Vermont woods practicing voluntary simplicity and the spiritual life. Marta enjoys the vitality of First Parish and our strong sense of community. She celebrates the yearning for depth and the desire to make a difference in the world that she finds here.
