Cancelled. It's easy to think of this as a 21st century phenomenon, but three millennia ago, David is deeply concerned about reputational damage. These songs speak of the king's desire for peace, his distress and his need for healing, but most of all they demonstrate his deep need for - and love of God.What's more, these psalms demonstrate remarkable humility for a proven military conqueror and one of the most powerful kings in the ancient Near East.Written and produced by Chas BayfieldMusic by Michael Auld and Jon Hawkins MusicCover art by Lisa Goff

The “sleepless night” is a terrible experience. In Psalm 4, Israel's king—King David—is facing just such a night. A thousand years later, the Lord Jesus would face an even darker night. Psalm 4 teaches us that all the stress and toil and restlessness of our Savior becomes our peace. He gives us the gift of a calmed heart even when our enemies attack so that we can rest.

Welcome to Day 2407 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Wisdom Nuggets – Psalm 4:1-8 Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2407 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2407 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. In today's Wisdom Nugget, I will guide you through the vast landscapes of biblical wisdom. Today, we're delving into Psalm 4:1-8 from the New Living Translation. This psalm, attributed to David, is a beautiful reflection on seeking God's help, finding peace in Him, and trusting His provision. So, let's embark on this journey together and discover the timeless truths in Psalm 4. Psalm 4:1-8 (NLT): 1 Answer me when I call to you, O God who declares me innocent. Free me from my troubles. Have mercy on me and hear my prayer. 2 How long will you people ruin my reputation? How long will you make groundless accusations? How long will you continue your lies? Interlude 3 You can be sure of this: The Lord set apart the godly for himself. The Lord will answer when I call to him. 4 Don't sin by letting anger control you. Think about it overnight and remain silent. Interlude 5 Offer sacrifices in the right spirit, and trust the Lord. 6 Many people say, “Who will show us better times?” Let your face smile on us, Lord. 7 You have given me greater joy than those who have abundant harvests of grain and new wine. 8 In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe. A Cry for Help: Psalm 4 opens with a heartfelt plea: “Answer me when I call to you, O God who declares me innocent. Free me from my troubles. Have mercy on me and hear my prayer” (verse 1). David is in distress and urgently seeks God's intervention. His appeal to God as the one who declares him innocent indicates a deep trust in God's justice and righteousness. David is confident that God understands his situation and will respond to his cry for help. In our own lives, we often find ourselves in situations where we need to call out to God for help. David's example teaches us to approach God honestly and urgently, knowing He is a just and merciful God who hears our prayers. It reminds us that we can turn to God in times of trouble, confident in His willingness to listen and act on our behalf. Dealing with Opposition: In verses 2 and 3, David addresses those who are slandering him: “How long will you people ruin my reputation? How long will you make groundless accusations? How long will you continue your lies?” He then asserts, “You can be sure of this: The Lord set apart the godly for himself. The Lord will answer when I call to him.” David faces opposition from those who spread false accusations and lies about him. These verses highlight the pain and frustration of dealing with unjust criticism and slander. Yet, David's response is one of confidence in God's protection and favor. He knows God has set apart the godly for Himself and will answer their prayers. This is a powerful...
