You do not have to carry today's concerns into tomorrow's sunrise. The Lord, who has walked with you through every hour of this day, remains with you now. Let's place this evening into His faithful hands and rest in His care. Scripture (NIV) “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.” — Psalm 4:8 Heavenly Father, thank You for Your constant care throughout this day. As we prepare to sleep, we place into Your hands every unfinished task, every lingering concern and every person we love. Thank You that You never sleep, never grow weary and never stop watching over Your children. Calm every anxious thought, quiet every restless heart and fill our homes with Your peace. Grant us deep and refreshing rest, and help us wake tomorrow with thankful hearts, ready to walk again in the confidence of Your unfailing love and faithful presence. Fear will not win, because the Lord alone gives His people peaceful rest and lasting security. May the Lord watch over you tonight, fill your heart with His peace and grant you deep, refreshing rest beneath His faithful care. As another day quietly comes to an end, we are invited to leave behind everything that has demanded our attention and simply rest in the presence of God. There may still be unanswered questions, unfinished tasks or concerns that have followed us into this evening, but none of these are greater than the faithful love of our heavenly Father. Before sleep gently closes our eyes, we can place every burden into His hands, knowing that the God who has carried us throughout this day will continue to watch over us through the night. His peace is not dependent upon perfect circumstances but upon His unchanging character and His everlasting promises. Psalm 4:8 (NIV) “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” Heavenly Father, thank You for Your constant care from the first light of this morning until this quiet moment tonight. Lord Jesus, help us to release every worry, every disappointment and every anxious thought into Your loving hands. Holy Spirit, breathe Your peace into every heart, every home and every family represented in this prayer. As we prepare to rest, renew our minds, restore our strength and quiet every fear that seeks to disturb our sleep. Remind us that Your angels watch over us, Your mercy surrounds us and Your faithfulness never fails. May we close this day with thankful hearts, confident that tomorrow is already safely held within Your hands. Today we declare that fear will not win, because the Lord who gives us peace also gives us safety, hope and rest. We choose to lie down in confidence, trusting that Your presence will remain with us through every hour of the night until the dawn of a new day. Some hearts are thankful, while others are carrying worries that seem heavier now than they did this morning. Yet before we close our eyes tonight, God gently reminds us that His presence has never left us. He has walked beside us through every moment of this day, and He lovingly watches over us through the night ahead. In His care we can release every burden and find true rest. Psalm 4:8 (NIV) “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithful love that has carried us throughout this day. As we prepare to rest, quiet every anxious thought and calm every troubled heart. Lord Jesus, surround us with Your perfect peace and remind us that we are safe in Your hands. Holy Spirit, fill our homes with Your comforting presence, bring healing where it is needed and renew our strength as we sleep. Come in for five minutes, let's open God's Word together, and let's pray. The day is gently drawing to a close. There have been moments of joy, moments of challenge and perhaps questions that are still waiting for tomorrow. As evening settles around us, God does not ask us to keep carrying the weight of this day into the night. Instead, He invites us to place everything into His loving hands, allowing His peace to become the final voice we hear before we rest. Psalm 4:8 (NIV) “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.” What a beautiful promise to finish this day. While our eyes close in sleep, the Lord remains awake in faithful love. His care does not pause through the night, His mercy does not grow tired and His presence never leaves those who trust in Him. Tonight, we choose to rest, not because every question has been answered, but because our lives are safely held by the One who never slumbers. So tonight, let's gently remind ourselves that fear will not win, because Jesus Christ surrounds us with His perfect peace and watches over us with unfailing love. Father, thank You for bringing us safely to the end of this day. Thank You for every kindness You have shown us, every prayer You have heard and every quiet reminder that You have remained close to us through every hour. Lord Jesus, watch over every listener tonight. Bring healing to those who are unwell, comfort to those who feel lonely, calm to anxious minds and deep, refreshing sleep to every weary heart. This psalm captures David's profound spiritual resilience amid his deepest personal crisis—being betrayed and pursued by his own son, Absalom. Though overwhelmed by shame, fear, and the collapse of his kingdom, David anchors his soul in the unshakable truth that the Lord has uniquely set apart the godly for Himself, distinguishing them not by merit but by divine grace. His confidence is not in circumstances, but in the Lord's faithful presence, which he affirms with boldness: the Lord hears him, and in that assurance, he finds peace. “Many people say, ‘Who will show us better times?’ Let your face smile on us, Lord. You have given me greater joy than those who have abundant harvests of grain and new wine. In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.” (Psalm 4:6–8 NLT) Dissatisfaction is the last of life’s headwinds that we’ll be talking about this week. It’s also one of the most common. Even those of us who like to think of ourselves as low-maintenance and unassuming harbor certain hopes and expectations for this life. We want meaning and purpose, among other things. When life fails to deliver, we’re left feeling disappointed, dissatisfied, and maybe even a little cheated. Only humans have a longing for meaning in life. I can assure you that my dog doesn’t sit around pondering the reason for his existence. He won’t be looking back on his life and saying, “You know, I tried it all as a dog. I chased cats. I drank toilet water. I tried bones. But deep inside of me, there was a void.” Dogs don’t think that way. They mainly think, “Food . . . sleep.” Dogs, you see, aren’t made in the image of God. You and I are. We are living souls, designed to know God and to experience something more than a mundane, directionless existence. From the time of our birth, we’ve been on a quest to discover that “something more.” And we keep searching until we discover that the answer to all our questions is found in a relationship with our Creator. God can give us a sense of joy and fulfillment that far surpasses the puny, fleeting pleasures this world offers. Even better, there’s no hangover in the morning. There’s no guilt or shame that accompanies it. The psalmists understood this. Psalm 4:6–8 says, “Many people say, ‘Who will show us better times?’ Let your face smile on us, Lord. You have given me greater joy than those who have abundant harvests of grain and new wine. In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe” (NLT). And Psalm 16:11 says, “You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever” (NLT). There’s pleasure in knowing God, not in chasing after happiness. In fact, we’ll never find happiness by chasing it. But what we will find is that as we chase God—as we pursue and walk with Him—then one day we will realize that we’ve become happy people. Happiness doesn’t come through actively seeking it but by getting our lives into proper balance, by aligning ourselves with God and His will for our lives. Happiness and joy are the byproducts of that balance and alignment. Jesus said, “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need” (Matthew 6:33 NLT). In other words, if you seek God and His plan first, everything else in life, including happiness and peace, will fall into place. Let's walk together, step by step, in this daily journey of faith! TODAY'S DEVOTION: He's angry. These teachers are a bunch of fakes. He's angry because these teachers of His Word ought to be offering people something real, something true. He's angry because they're a bunch of religious, self-righteous, self-serving hypocrites, and Jesus is none too happy about it. They're telling lies about God, and the main one is a lie of separation. God is separate, he's distant, and he's angry. He's angry until you perform the right religious duties, until you wash your hands the right way, until you wash your cup in just the right way, until you give the right amount of everything that you own in just the right way. Even the herbs in your garden and a thousand other things like this were all used as a way of ensuring that you knew that God was separate from you, that he was angry with you. And this message of separation served these guys well. They leveraged it for coercion and control, for power, prestige, and money. They used this lie to become important in the eyes of those with power. They liked to walk around with their flowing robes in the marketplaces. They liked when important people, powerful people, recognized them and honored them. All the while the people suffer. Jesus looked at this and declared it hogwash. He called them hypocrites, snakes, vipers. In effect, Jesus says, you say that you speak for God, but you don't know God. If you knew God, you would know his justice, not yours, which is so rarely just. You would know his love—his love which declares that God is not separate. Rather, God is here. He is with us, and God is for all people. He is wanting his people and his priests who use his name to tell the truth, to demonstrate the love and justice of God, to live in the reality of the God who is with us, the God who is their present king, because it's true and the world so desperately needs it. If you read the Bible and you're left with a God who is separate, distant, petty, and angry, more concerned with how much turmeric you tithe than he is about you loving your neighbor and knowing that you are loved, then you've been sold a lie and you have completely missed the point of who he is. Because the point of his word is to show us that God is for us, not against us. That God is good. That God is not petty, but abounding in grace and mercy. That God is present and he is full of love. This was the message of all the prophets. God. God is with you, people. Wake up. Wake up to the God who is with you. He's angry that religion has become a way to crush people's spirits with unbearable religious demands rather than something that sets them free and makes them new. Jesus begins this reading in Luke by telling us that God is something completely different than what the Pharisees are selling. Jesus says God's not like that. God is good. When you ask him for good things, he doesn't give you scorpions and snakes. He's a good father. Don't let circumstances and the seeming delay in God's response to your need dissuade you from the truth of his kindness. Like the man who's knocking and seeking and asking for bread, God comes through. So keep asking, keep knocking, keep seeking. God's not angry with you. Don't let others or the circumstances prevent you from knowing the kind of father that you really have. Your Father knows what it's like to give his children good gifts. Earthly fathers know what it's like to do that. How much more will our good Father give good gifts if we ask for them? Jesus is angry at the evil in this world that keeps people from knowing and experiencing his loving kindness. God's not angry with you. What's the gift the good Father is giving? He's giving himself. He's giving the Holy Spirit. How much more will your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him? He is offering himself to be with us and in us. Pray that God will renew your mind so that you will no longer see your Father as separate from you and angry with you, but rather as good and kind. He wants to give you everything. May your soul, may my soul, may we know this well today. That's my prayer. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.   And now Lord,  make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon.  Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope.  Where there is darkness, light.  And where there is sadness,  Joy.  Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.  For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life.  Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray...
