Our Sunday message. This week is a recap of our youth mission trip to Baja California, Mexico.
Our Sunday sermon, this week from guest speaker Randy J Bland
In this episode, I'm joined by Trapper Trussell, a seasoned elk hunter and rising star in the world of competitive elk calling. Trapper's journey into elk hunting started at a young age, but it's his path to mastering elk calling that has really taken off. From his early days of calling in elk with his dad to competing at the highest levels, we dive deep into his evolution as a caller, including his breakout performance at the World Elk Calling Competition. Trapper shares the nerves of stepping onto the competition stage for the first time, his strategies for calling, and the lessons he's learned along the way. We also talk about how he balances hunting with family life, what makes a great elk hunting spot, and why elk calling competitions can teach you just as much about hunting as they do about the art of calling. Plus, we get into some memorable elk hunting stories, including his first bull and his favorite spots for late-season cow hunts. Whether you're a seasoned hunter or just starting out, this episode is packed with valuable tips, real-life experience, and some seriously entertaining stories. Tune in for an epic conversation on elk hunting, calling, and all things in between! This episode is brought to you by Stone Glacier, the leader in high-performance hunting gear. Our Sunday sermon, this week from guest speaker Brian South.
To discuss the fallout from this week's Spring Statement, after Rachel Reeves confirmed a host of cuts to benefit payments and a squeeze on public spending to offset a downgrade in the country's growth forecast, John Glen, Tory MP and a former Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Helen Barnard, Director of Policy at the Trussell charity, Greg Thwaites, Research Director at the Resolution Foundation think tank, and Chris Curtis, Labour MP and Vice-Chair of the Labour Growth Group, join host Alain Tolhurst. As the question already turns to whether further tax rises will be needed as soon as this year, some Labour backbenchers fume about the optics of the government appearing to balance the books on the backs of some of the poorest in society due to self-imposed fiscal rules, while others have questioned the role of the OBR in guiding the Treasury's hand every six months. To sign up for our newsletters click herePresented by Alain Tolhurst, produced by Nick Hilton and edited by Ewan Cameron for Podot

Lucinda Rouse, Andy Ricketts and Emily Harle dissect the leading stories from the voluntary sector in 2024.Lucinda delivers a speedy round-up of the year's charity news before the three discuss their selected top stories. These include the closure of the British Youth Council and the National Citizen Service, the finding that charities are subsidising government service contracts by £2.4bn a year, and the implications of a new government for the sector. They share their nominations for the year's strangest stories, namely the mystery online fundraiser set up for Trussell, the anonymous cash donations to Bristol-based charities, and the most theatrical of trustee disputes at the Actors' Benevolent Fund. They reflect on some recurring trends and learnings over the course of the year, from changing social media usage to redundancies and the need to include the right people in discussions about tackling racism.Tell us what you think of the Third Sector Podcast! Our Sunday sermon, this week from associate pastor Patrick Miles.
Today, more people than ever before are using food banks in the UK, while rates of homelessness are also on the increase. These figures are predicted to grow as we enter the cold winter months. The last two decades have seen a huge increase in faith-based initiatives to support those in crisis, from churches running food banks to street pastors to charities offering support to the homeless. But to what extent do these initiatives work, and could it be the case that by offering sticking-plaster solutions like warm spaces we are actually perpetuating the underlying problem?Rosa Hunt speaks to Bonnie Williams, former director of Housing Justice Cymru and now CEO of Housing Justice UK. Jessica Foster, Head of Church Engagement at Trussell, the largest food bank charity in the UK and Jon Kuhrt, CEO of Hope into Action, a charity that enables churches to house the homeless. We hear from people who have been supported by charities in a time of crisis and we'll examine why, as one of the world's largest economies, people in the UK are in the position where they might be hungry or homeless.
Bob Trussell may not be the first person you'd expect to write a book about the existence of God. As the founder of Tempur-Pedic and a seasoned businessman, Bob's career was rooted in the corporate world. However, his deep faith and conversations with colleagues, clients, family, and friends only strengthened his belief in God. This conviction led him to author The Logic That God Exists, available now from Sophia Institute Press.. In this episode, Bob shares insights from his journey, discussing the logical proofs for God's existence and how they can help us know, believe in, and defend our faith.
