Our Sunday sermon, this week from our Director of Prayer Ministries, Dr. Jim Lo
Lucinda Rouse and Dami Adewale are joined by Emma Revie, co-chief executive of Trussell, and the strategy and change management specialist Martyn Drake.Emma explains why Trussell's mission statement has been altered to place the provision of food aid second to its aim of eliminating the need for food banks. She stresses the need to work with others to drive systems change and shares her belief that resources should never be taken away from long-term solutions in order to provide a temporary fix.Martyn shares examples of other charities that have recognised the need to change strategic direction to avoid being enablers of the problems they are trying to solve. He describes the importance of granting staff at all levels of an organisation the autonomy to work flexibly with other partners in order to achieve shared goals.Tell us what you think of the Third Sector Podcast! On Saturday, May 13, 2000, in Adelaide, South Australia, a mother and her teenage daughter were last seen leaving their home at 2:30 a.m. We don't know why or what happened to them after that. What we do know is that one of them was murdered, and the other remains missing to this day. But thanks to a recent discovery just a few weeks before recording this episode, rewards totaling over a million dollars and new technology, investigators are more hopeful than ever that this case can and will be solved. https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-the-megan-memorial-fund Trigger warning - This is a difficult but important episode. I talked with Vanessa Diaz who is the mother of Megan Trussell. Megan was 18 years old and a freshman at CU Boulder when she walked out of her dorm room on the night of Super Bowl Sunday in February of 2025. Several days later her body was found miles away. The Boulder sheriffs office ruled her death a suicide, but the family does not agree and feels like she didn't get a thorough investigation. So much remains a mystery and is unexplained. In this episode Vanessa talks about how you can support the family, and what they know and do not know about what happened to Megan.

In February 2025, a college freshman is reported missing from her dorm at CU Boulder. Days later, her body is discovered in a canyon miles from campus, an area her family says she never would have gone alone. Six days later, her body was found miles away—down a steep embankment in Boulder Canyon. She had scrapes, bruises, and contusions across her body and head. Her teeth were broken, and her phone, purse, and one of her shoes were missing. Weeks later, her phone turned up at an ecoATM—it had been sold by a stranger. Her purse was found miles away, torn at the clasp. Her other shoe has never been found. Despite all of this, authorities ruled that no foul play was involved. Megan's family doesn't agree. They believe a thorough investigation was never conducted—and that there are still too many unanswered questions. Trapper's journey into elk hunting started at a young age, but it's his path to mastering elk calling that has really taken off. We also talk about how he balances hunting with family life, what makes a great elk hunting spot, and why elk calling competitions can teach you just as much about hunting as they do about the art of calling. Our Sunday sermon, this week from guest speaker Brian South.
To discuss the fallout from this week's Spring Statement, after Rachel Reeves confirmed a host of cuts to benefit payments and a squeeze on public spending to offset a downgrade in the country's growth forecast, John Glen, Tory MP and a former Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Helen Barnard, Director of Policy at the Trussell charity, Greg Thwaites, Research Director at the Resolution Foundation think tank, and Chris Curtis, Labour MP and Vice-Chair of the Labour Growth Group, join host Alain Tolhurst. As the question already turns to whether further tax rises will be needed as soon as this year, some Labour backbenchers fume about the optics of the government appearing to balance the books on the backs of some of the poorest in society due to self-imposed fiscal rules, while others have questioned the role of the OBR in guiding the Treasury's hand every six months. To sign up for our newsletters click herePresented by Alain Tolhurst, produced by Nick Hilton and edited by Ewan Cameron for Podot
